>> how will joe bidenview china? >> probably a combination of all things are just sad. >> laura: how profound. first biden says china is not a threat i and his pick for secretary of state says that they are almost partners with us? what's next, president xi helps? direct the christmas tree next year? with doug schoen, you know that his agenda is marked by everything else that the notion that america must never, ever do anything on its own. here is a quote. "we are not the leader of first choice because we are always right or universally liked, it is because we can strive to the best ofec our ability to align r actions with our principles and because our leadership holds the ability to mobilize others and make a difference."
11:03 pm
let's look at this quotationy. carefully. it simply assures us that america is power doesn't come from the righteousness of its cause, or economic or political might. can you imagine washington, lincoln, fdr, reagan, or of course be five talking about america in such a dismissive w way? but it does echo one of our previous leaders. been times where america has shown arrogance and been dismissive. even derisive. if americans are not your enemy, we sometimes make mistakes. we have not been perfect. >> that we made our share of mistakes... of the united states is still working through some of our own darker periods in our history.nd >> laura: the biden darkid winter is just beginning. but ier digress. what does mr. lincoln
11:04 pm
we strive to alignour statemenr principles. that is just meaningless speak for every government seeks to align its action with his principal. so the second great strength ofames that our leadership holds the ability to mobilize others to make a difference. according to him, america acting alone counts for nothing. we are only important if we can only mobilize others. we didn't win the cold war with troops or money, recently mobilize others. the protesters in hong kong didn't wave american flags because they believe and are ideal of freedom, they were just happy that we have other countries on speed dial,

apparently. but what if other countries refused to be mobilized? what if heaven forbid they put their interest ahead of ours? >> for decades, the same tired voicespo propose the same failed solutions for pursuing global ambitions at the expense of their own people. but only when you take care of your own citizens will you find a true basis for cooperation. >> laura: for example, what if mr. blinken asked the europeans for help on china and they said no, stop it. what if he asked them to put pressure on iran and they refused? i guess he's out of options because his only power, the power to mobilize others, won't always work. blinken is essentially announcing to the world that we will never act unilaterally. we will depend on the goodwill of other countries. well, this has been tried befo before. >> america can't do this alone.

the afghan people need our troops and your troops. our support and your support. the future we are building together, not separately. that starts right here in europe. the people of europe are more secure because we stood together for the ideals we share. >> laura: vi the europeans held the obama administration in such low esteem they did nothing of any significance to help obama with china. japan and other asian countries signed the trans pacific partnership but that deal was so bad for the united states and so favorable to other countries, even hillary clinton had no choice but to oppose it. but one thing we know about foreign policy that everyoneno knows how to take advantage of a sucker. so when blinken tries to mobilize the e.u. against china, he'll have to sacrifice our

themselves wholly dependent on the goodwill of the europeans, canadians, or any country for that matter. the confirmation hearings for blinken must feature sharp and focused questionings from republicans who challenge his follow the world foreign policy and as the inevitable results of blinken's policies manifest, we can go to the country in 2022 or 2024 and seek a return to common sense and renewed focus on our national interests. and that's the angle. joining me now is missouri senator josh hawley. he serves on the judiciary committee. senator, wonderful to see you tonight. you have labeled biden's potential picks as corporatists, war enthusiasts, and you said big tech sellouts. you think blinken could be the worst of them all. explain. >> i was being nice. by the way, laura.

if you ever wonder why china a s giddy over this? >> it's unbelievable and you are right to point out his ties to china and this is someone who thinks, blinken that is, we ought to have closer ties to china, dismissed the idea that china is a competitor. china is more than a competitor, they are an opponent. someone who's going to be the biggest national security threat, he doesn't get that at all.s he's also somebody who advised big tech on how to break into china, get closer to china. this guy is totally wrong. he should not be in charge ofrg anything, certainly shouldn't be in charge of this country'sll foreign policy and if joe biden ends up being sworn in as president, you should prepare for a hard vetting of every ngsingle nominee and the republican ought to be out there saying we ought to fast-track -- we aren't going to fast-track anything. if joe biden ends up as president every nominee should be subjected to rigorous rigorous vetting in question. >> laura: you and i are on the

as the senator mentioned, the biden team demand that the g.o.p. green light these potential cabinet choices before the inauguration, before these challenges go through the court system and in doing so, they forget their role in hobbling trump's presidency from the start. to understand exactly what they did, ag bill barr today appointed john durham as a special counsel to keep investor getting the rush of probe origins under the new administration. so if democrats tried to kill a special counsel, figuratively obviously, will they remember what they say during the mueller probe. joining me now is molliene hemingway. this is a classic box them in move by bill barr, is it not? >> welcome attorney general barr said thatr he made durham specl counsel to make him feel comfortable no matter what the result of the electionlt where,

that he be able to complete his investigation and that is precisely what'ss doing it in october did and also keeping that unknown until the day shows he wasn't doing it for any electoral gain and really has been protecting that investigation to make sure it bcan go forward its own pace pe ando whatnot. but remember when special counter mueller was appointed, youem had everybody in washington, d.c., sayy that if donald trump looked in the wrong direction of mueller that would be grounds of impeachment and i would hope they would continue to be very consistent about this. that they make sure that biden not intervene in this probe, they would also make sure that his administration is fully compliant and everything. certainly not getting rid of the probe at all. >> laura: you're asking for consistency from the democrats. that's a lot to ask for. congressman and him shift known for pushing the russian investigation, said this tonight about the durham news.
11:18 pm
>> the appointment is not consistent with the language he's relying on and could be rescinded by the next attorney general. i would presume the next attorney general would see if there's any merit to the work that john durham is doing and makeke a rational decision on whether that should continue at any level. >> laura: really is shameless. did heam forget all the time abt how trump was going to fire the special counsel, how trump was going to go after the special prosecutor? this is their constant refrain. >> also shows that he wasn't reading the order that put this special counsel and place. it was true that barr put a man as a special attorney, if you are somehow conflicted or whatnot in the investigation. that's not theti case here. he's continuing to use durham but constraining him with the powers of the special counsel. this is absolutely just par for
11:19 pm
the courseis with who's been claiming that he's never been able to provide evidence. >> laura: it's shameless.il bill barr had taken some heat today when the ap reported today that the doj had found not a lot of fraud. tonight a doj spokesperson made this clarification telling fox news that some media outlets have been correctly reported that the department hasec concluded its investigation of election fraud. i that's not what the attorney general stated. the department will continue to receive and vigorously pursue all specific and credible allegations. what does that tell you, mollie, some tough words from trump's legalt team saying they hadn't interviewed any of the witnesses that have come forward, at least the big witnesses we have heard from at this point. >> yeah.
11:20 pm
many people in the media obviously are not interested in the electionot fraud. you have testimony being given in multiple states where people talkhe about their own eyewitnes observations of how this year's election with its rampant mail in balloting and the lack of scrutiny of mail in ballots led to all sorts of fraud and the lack election integrity. barr did say they are looking into things that affected thousands of votes and various elections that came down to six votes and 12 votes, thousands of votes that are actually meaningful and it does take months to be able to properly litigate election fraud and that's something that does need to continue. >> laura: you bet. otherwise republicans will never win another election. mollie, thank you so much. our elected leaders continue to think so much little of you, they are breaking their own covid rules on an almost daily basis per the latest example

11:25 pm
11:26 pm
throughout this pandemic, we have seen elected officials demand, even threaten punishment, for not adhering to a crushing covid dictates to only turn around and brazenly flaunts them. just today while writing this up, we learned that san francisco mayor london paris joined a socialites dinner at the swanky french laundry restaurant just three days before banning indoor dining in san francisco. is there any other restaurant? that's only one they apparently go to.ur if you think this entitle behavior has gone on for months, you are right. back in april, mayor lori lightfoot got a haircut days after cutting nonessential -- she defended her covidpocricy, of course. >> i'm out in the public eye. i am a person, i take my personal hygiene very seriously.
11:27 pm
as i said, i felt i needed to have a haircut. be one she needed a little self-care. the little people? you can look like hell, day in and day out. just a month later, billionaire governor j.b. pritzker was forced to acknowledge his family members had been in florida and wisconsin wil while residents hd been in his state lockdown. witmer passed itt off this way. >> my husband made a failed attempt at humor, knowing it wouldn't make a difference but he jokingly asked that if being married to me might move them up in the queue. he thought it might you get laugh. >> laura: that's hilarious. hilarious to michiganers who weren't even allowed to go to the hardware store.
11:28 pm
i'm sure. that same week in may, mayor grisham pulled rank to make a jewelry purchased from a store in albuquerque, this after closing all nonessential business. in early september, speaker nancy pelosi used a shuttered separate cisco hair salon for a mask list blowout. she then had the audacity to respond to the controversy this way. >> i take responsibility. my neighborhood salon that i've gone to for years. >> laura: i love the hand l motion. d.c. mayor muriel bowser disregarded her own cities covid restrictions on the travel issue to attend the joe biden victory speech in early november. she defended that covid hypocrisy as essential travel.
11:29 pm
gavin newsom attend in a much touted list at the same restaurant, the french laundry. offering this evasive, odd apology. >> i am made a mistake. i apologize but we aren't telling people they can't eat. but i made a mistake being with a few extra people being beyond the guidelines. >> laura: extra people. and just last week, the mayor of denver flew out of state for thanksgiving hours after asking his residence, hey, you people stay at home. the mayor of san jose travel tos have thanksgiving with his parentses a day after tweeting a warning to his constituents about such travel. and nla supervisor dined outdoors after saying this days earlier. >> they are protected from us and not protected from the other six tables they are serving at that particular time, so it is a most dangerous situation.

11:30 pm
>> laura: it's dangerous, all right. it's all disgusting and brings me back to the point wee made t the top. the hypocrisy of these elected leaders breeds nothing but resentment and mistrust. no wonder they distrust everything from covid restrictions to election results. i thought that ends when they need their hair done or just a fun night out. citizens are fighting back against the covid hypocrisy. an illinois man decided to not close down his bar despite the order. mike, have you been threatened with any sort of fine or other punishment? >> laura, i can't say we have. we've had some phone calls from the health departments, some other people. but we are still open for business.
11:31 pm
march 16th, we were asked as close down for two weeks to let the curve slow down and who we are in the half later still asked to close down. we can pay the bills like this. we are hurting in illinois and i'm not the only one that staying open. most of the restaurants in our area are open for business. we can't afford to shut down. we have families with children, single moms. what are they going to do to survive? so we are staying open as long as we can. we all are out together out here, laura, we have counsel and will listen to counsel. >> laura: here is what your governor said about next dates fo steps for the state. >> if i had to imagine whether we'd have to declare another disaster for the state, i would say highly likely. we have not gone into a stay at
11:32 pm
order and that would certainly be the next step that we could take for medications. >> laura: i'm going to declare a disaster right now. his governorship, mike. all right? what will you do have another stay-at-home order, which he basically said is going to go into effect, no doubt about it. what does that do to you guys? >> we are all staying open. we are in survival -- if we close down again we'll never be able to open up. we are in survival mode. how can you run a business for eight and a half months just doing carry out or doing 25% -- >> laura: you can't. restaurants cannot survive. one of the great restaurants in texas, one of the restaurateurs in texas explaining the entire thing to me, it was so infuriating. no cases of any spread in the restaurant, and they are bending over backwards and they are still getting hassled or threatened. even if nothing ends up

happening. these are people's lives too and i think the restaurateurs across this country, i hopeur more of them fight for their own survival and their own rights. what do you say to them tonight? >> i say god bless him. keep fighting. you have no choice. we can't lay down. if we lay down now, is it going to happen again next year? we are in trouble out here. we are all in trouble out here. not just the restaurants. the small businesses. we need help. we need to stay open, we need help from congress, whatever it can be. butt we can't keep going like this. we spent thousands and thousands of dollars on sanitizing stations, tense, air filtration systems, purifiers. we are doing our best. we are the cleanest -- we are very clean. we are cleaning everything all the time in restaurants. >> laura: plexiglas, noau

the vaccine. let's let the science, not press releases, the side how we should proceed. >> laura: alex, we also might be dealing with these immunity requirements which airline industry groups, international flights, are all talking about coordinating their effort to create a digital passport that would essentially ground people who cannot prove that they have been vaccinated for covid. what about that?ut >> let's talk about two different issues here. everything dr. o said, the top line data that's been replaced, it looks really good. because of the way al public heh officials, because of the way

amazonse suppressed me and my booklet, there are tremendous distress here. because we are now in a place good, we need to see the safety data, but it could be good, they are trying to backdoor force people into this. what they should be doing is this looks good and we are going to encourage people. if they try to force people to take this there is going to be a tremendous backlash as there should be. >> laura: speaking of mistrust, dr. oskoui, a peer review study publishes month found that 84% you were covid patients treated early with hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin, think about where we all were back in april talking aboutwa hcq. we were derided, we were trashed, we were false. how detrimental of the media politicization of

11:44 pm
few politicians who are urging these lockdowns like j.b. "billionaire" pritzker in illinois or newsom in california, do these stories matter to these individuals? >> they don't seem to matter to anybody except for me and people who read my feed, and you. again, there is a bigger issue here even bigger than covid which is the way tech companies and older conventional media companies are really acting almost in concert to try to force this narrative on people, speak to everything the person who has gotten sick or unfortunately died, some people have died from covid, talk about some of the collateral damage, it's really -- it's not okay. i don't understand how we can live in a society where only one narrative is allowed, free the plate and free discussion are noted allowed.
11:45 pm
>> laura: the depression and isolation of individuals in losing everything they've worked for. we talked to a restaurant owner who is defying it. this is a matter of my survival. > survival in all different forms. a lot of people have borne a lot and they are ones being told in california you may have to go back into lock down. >> laura: can't even. >> people are cracking, laura. >> laura: they are beyond cracking. panel, thank you for being here. coming up, republican orthodoxy demand we avoid one issue for far too long. the pentagon budget. i have some questions and a few prescriptions next. about the potential dod picks that have been floated for a biden administration? a lot of these folks, it doesn't look like they are going to be anxious to pull more troops out of afghanistan. certainly the generals don't seem to want to do that. >> i've expressed concern. if she'll f she was for iraq, she was forsy. these policy about cost us trillions of dollars. china hasn't been in a war since 1979. we've been in 40 wars. if we view china our biggest strategicth competitor come thee policies aren't what's going to allow america to win and compete. matt gaetz shares his view, people in the armed services committee who shares these views. this isn't part of it, it's about america lead the 21st century. >> laura: congressman, i would love to have you back because i think there are a lot of issues republicans can work with
