donald trump threatening to block the defense spending bill over the battle with big tech. and move that has congress including republican threatening to override his veto. joining me to explain more about the political tug-of-war, beverly hallberg. good morning. so donald trump is trying to veto the defense spending bill that includes pay raises to military unless section 230 is repealed which protects facebook and twitter from getting sued over things other people post on their sites. do you think that's a trade-off? >> this is going to be rife with issues because there are many republicans who agree with the president on repealing section 230 but don't think it should be attached to the defense bill that even if the president would veto this they may have numbers to overturn his veto and this
2:33 am
gets to another issue, there is still this ongoing debate with repealing section 230 will actually deal with the bias we see and not create additional problems as you were just mentioning. of this protection is repealed what you'll find is social media sites will be responsible for their users post, not just for twitter and facebook but also a conservative competitor like parlor, that site has passed 10 million users at this point so this would open them to potential lawsuits and progressives would love to throw some frivolous lawsuits against a conservative site that seems to be gaining in traction. let the free market sort this out. it is what allows sites like parlor to pop up. >> take away that legal protection that is so true, take away the protection from social media companies that makes it so they don't get sued so easily, facebook and twitter and potter will have to start whipping down posts more than they are now so it could have an adverse affect.
2:34 am
if you are a conservative and you feel facebook and twitter are targeting conservatives and treating them unfairly. what is the solution if not appealing section 230? >> conservatives are being treated unfairly. these are valid criticisms. i understand why conservatives are frustrated. i am myself but do you really think government getting involved even more and allowing lawsuits to take place will solve the problem? another point i would like to address is one of the reasons conservatives have a voice these days is they've gone around traditional media, we want those sites to pop up, this could limit it and i find it ironic people criticize twitter on twitter so keep that in mind. if you think twitter needs more regulation, twitter allows you to vocal your complaints. jillian: you make a lot of sense, we appreciate it. >> a winter storm bringing near
