a second case of the new more contagious strain of covid-19 confirmed in the us. >> the uk variant was detected in san diego county just one day after it was reported in colorado. jackie ibanez joins us. >> reporter: health officials in california say a local man in his 30s with no recent travel history tested positive for the new strain. >> i'm not surprised you have a case, likely more cases in california and we likely will be seize reports from other states. i don't think californians should feel this is something odd. this is expected. >> reporter: this has officials in colorado investigating a second suspected case of the new strain. both cases were national guard members deployed to assist at a nursing home where there has been a widespread covid-19 outbreak.

>> i hope 2021 is a bit safer for new york city residents in 2020 was. the commissioner has come out and set optimistically he hopes it is well but if it was up to him, some of the cops i think we would be able to accomplish that but in new york city and new york state we've seen politicians take 2020 to dismantle the police whether it is in the summer when they defunded the police and lowered the head count or just after that when they passed the chokehold bill that criminalizes police officers for wrestling with perps and bail reform in new york city which allowed people back on the street after having committed violent heinous crime so it's not the cops faultless happen, it is the politicians fault. >> not just new york city, you talk about chicago, atlanta, 7-year-old girl who was shot and killed the other day when she was out christmas shopping with her mom, just tragic, philadelphia is around 500 murders, the record in 1990, 504, there are cities all across
