welcome to america's news headquarters, i am eric shawn. >> hello. i'm in for arthel. the coalition of senators select say they will vote to oppose, formalizing electoral college results, it's just one more chapter in an election battle that still play out. rick is live at the white house, the latest on all of this. rich. reporter: good afternoon. this is just days ahead of congress working to formalize results of the 2020 presidential election. a session that will now feature objecting debates and voting. all that coming as now growing list of republicans joining that effort. they will object during next week's joint session including senators ted cruz, ron johnson, john kennedy and incoming oaxacan senators, roger marshall and tommy taber will among

others. the right, we do not take this action lightly. rather to protect it. every one of us should act together to ensure the election was awfully conducted under the constitution and do everything we can to restore faith in our democracy. democrats are rethink the strategy, amy klobuchar of minnesota rights, a group of my republican colleagues to claim they want an additional federal commission to supersede state certifications, when the votes have already been counted, recounted, litigated and state certified amounts to nothing more than an attempt to subvert the will of the voters. it's undemocratic, un-american and fortunately, it will be unsuccessful. in the end, democracy will prevail. vice president like pens will preside wednesday over a constitutional mandated joint concession. that's her congress as result of the electoral college if a member of the house and of the senate objects the state

campaign. these last three days are really critical. i'm here making phone calls and participating virtually. we got a lot of surrogates in town, the president is coming a day night a big rally in dalton. eric: that is david perdue saying how he's not slowing down to spite his fact that he's in quarantine. the center coming into contact with a staffer who tested positive for coronavirus. senator perdue and his wife, they are quarantined together. thankfully both have tested negative. austin chambers, senior strategist for senator reduce campaign welcome first to the senator, and missus perdue. how is he feeling? >> feeling great. he's quarantining at home with his wife, bonnie. they've both tested negative, no symptoms. he's working nonstop to get the message out to make sure people get out and vote tuesday.

eric: what is the message and how is he getting it out? >> the message is if we went georgia, we save america. this is the last line of defense. nancy pelosi said if the democrats win these two seats in georgia, it's like having 60 votes in the senate. chuck schumer said first take georgia, then we change america. aoc said we need these two seats in georgia so we don't have to negotiate but georgians get the final say about which direction we want to go as a country. they are energized by that and turning out to vote. we had record turnout in the early vote. and i think we are going to have record turnout on election day. kelly loeffler and david perdue will be successful. eric: they say upwards of 3 million georgians have voted so far. a lot of heavy floating in the democratic areas. do you think, are you concerned about that? they also say were hogan's generally show up on election

day which is to say. >> we are not concerned at all. we are hitting the numbers we need to hit thus far. we are encouraged by the turnout we are seeing we are even more encouraged by the organization we have working over the next few days to turn out the vote that will be topped off by the president coming to georgia monday night 9:00 p.m. for a great rally. we've got the right machine and team in place. we are going to turn out the vote on tuesday to go along with what we've already turned out in early voting and i think we will be successful. eric: what you expect in the rally? does a lot of criticism, he calls this election illegal, he says it's invalid. how do you feel about that? are you worried the president could go off script somewhat away from the race? >> the president has been awesome thus far about telling people to get out and vote in this election and making sure they understand how important it is. he did that where he was just here a few weeks ago and

directly addressed some of his supporters told people ridiculously not to go vote. he said that was crazy. you have to turnout vote, we have to win these seats. the president is coming back monday to tell his supporters and tell people of georgia to get out and vote on tuesday. we are excited about the rally, is going to be a great success. eric: the senator has gone off the the senator on the stock sales and business history and this sort of thing saying he puts his own personal financial well-being ahead of georgians. how do you respond to that? >> that is ridiculous. john wants to talk about anything other than his own personal finances. he spent the last two years working for the communist chinese party. her own peter doocy is trying to ask about it multiple times and he refuses to come to clean. what we see with eric and hunter biden, the communist chinese are going after any young, ambitious

politician. they can get to them, they can certainly get to someone who's already on the payroll. the people of georgia are concerned about this and it's going to be a big issue in deciding who to vote for tuesday. if you want someone who will stand up to china, it not someone named john who he works for. eric: you mentioned peter doocy, a serious reporter. when asked about china, here is what he said to peter in the interview. >> my company has produced multiple investigations of atrocities committed by isis. these investigations have been aired by dozens of television channels in dozens of countries all over the world. one of those television channels was in hong kong. that's the entire substance of senator produce campaign against me. eric: reports are it was $5000 over two years. his company was $995. they say to your guy and say

they outsourced american jobs for years as president rate book, most of them were made in asia. executive of sara lee who lived in asia for a long time, they think the senator is guilty of what he is accusing us of. >> senator perdue spent over 40 years in business creating american jobs and growing american companies. john never had a real job in his life other than working for al jazeera and communist chinese party. the fact is, it's not just one documentary, it was just discovered this morning they were little documentaries pushing chinese propaganda and it was discovered a few years ago on jon ossoff's personal twitter account, he is encouraging people to follow the state run chinese media. this is someone with a better relationship with the communist chinese party and he does and a better understanding of the

delighted you could join us. happy new year. we are inching into 2021. he started off, possible democratic, potentially razor thin margin we were talking about but is there any wild scenario where nancy pelosi does not regain the speakership? >> after 2020, you don't want to count anything out completely. sure, there is at least you could put the theory out there where mccarthy, minority mccarthy becomes speaker because not enough democrats there because of covid or because you have progressive members not wanting to vote for nancy pelosi but i think that's highly unlikely. she's shown in the past she's very good at making sure she has the votes when she needs them. i think despite covid, despite the margin, she will end up speaker of the house but i do

scenarios. they will work with replicants on subjects that might be common ground like infrastructure, just hope the midterm elections of the democrats have enough seats to pass legislation that they want to pass. i think those are the two options we are looking at. molly: just want to say what we mentioned a couple bicycle, gop senators led by ted cruz, they've made plans to generate sixth object a certification of the presidential election results. what they want is a ten day emergency audit of the results. is there any chance this group, 11 were hogan's could actually make that happen why are they doing this? >> that would not happen. it would take very cynical moves. the most i've seen in politics here, i think all 12 no donald trump did not win the election. many of them have elections in 2022 and believe they need to do

this to not be challenged. others want to run for president in 2024. josh hawley, ted cruz and they think this is a pass to win donald trump's support in his supporters in the 2024 revoke and presidential primaries. there is history to this, those who believe in politicians who believe something is up with the president, they will get his support of his supporters and were humiliated. i think that might happen in 2024 but this not pass. what it will do is undermine faith among the americans in the democratic process. i think that's very important. molly: there have been strong words from democrats about overall effort on the parties republicans. perhaps the strongest i've heard is seditious but yet, this is part of the process. the mechanism they are participating in here. what do you think we will actually see january 6? any surprises to look out for? >> what has happened before,

there have been objections in the past but we've never seen a president tried to get and lobby senators to basically call out of an election where there is clear evidence of who one. it does see, it does seem pretty stark and a break in the norms. it's not just democrats deciding this, mitch mcconnell reported to be on call with senators the other day and said this will be the most important vote of his entire career, not just the vote of certified joe biden and president because he believes this is a vote on democracy and rule of law. that's coming from someone who has been an ally of donald trump. i do think this is a big break in traditional norms. molly: not a dull week ahead for washington. jamie, thank you very much. appreciate you joining us. eric. eric: thanks, molly. britain's feisty prime minister

there's more fallout in new york city over coronavirus restrictions, mayor bill de blasio coming under fire for dancing in times square new year's eve while the rest of the city was told to stay home. this as restaurants and small businesses struggle to survive, some of the toughest times they've ever seen. alex hogan is live in new york city with more on this. reporter: massive crowds did not make it to times square for the beginning of 2021 but a lot of critics are blasting the mayor for himself being at that event. mayor bill de blasio was part of this event on social media, people still were claiming that
