neil: griff jenkins was on the ground in the middle of the terrifying scene, joins us live on capitol hill. we were showing video of the capital but nevertheless scary. >> reporter: it was indeed. it is quiet thanks to law enforcement national guard response but the scenes we saw yesterday are among the darkest in the capital's history. it was unbelievable when in the middle of the afternoon, after the speech the president gave, hundreds of pro-trump supporters storming the capital scaling the walls, using the fencing and railing to toss capitol hill police and breaking windows, ultimately taking over the people's house leaving four debt

people saw coming. what i was reported yesterday on the ground i said a couple times this feels like a constitutional tinderbox. it had that feel to it. it wasn't because donald trump gave a speech and told people to do something at the capital. that's not what happened. for supporters of the president, that crowd was at large, not trying to make a point about that but i have been to tons of these, this was much larger, energized, to a man or woman i talked yesterday, we interviewed them, they said this is the culmination of a feeling i have where my country has been taken over by the left, my voice is being censored and silenced. my institutions are being fundamentally changed by the left, socialists wants to take over and transform the country and i told time and again, my

recourse is to go to the ballot box and be the silent majority and they feel using covid-19 as a justification mail in ballots, ballot harvesting, that option has been taken from them too. what do folks expect to happen you how might this manifest, thank god there wasn't more violence, we saw actual targeting of shots being fired at law enforcement officers. this is the result of frustration that a lot of people feel, i am not saying it is okay, but images didn't shock me. if you understand how people feel about the moment we are in we feel we are at a crossroads.

breaking into public buildings. look at what the left is done targeting entire communities, burning them to the ground, targeting police officers, private businesses, random acts of violence which are more violent and destructive of what occurred yesterday. yesterday's incident at the capital, the people's house, in nancy pelosi's chair, shouldn't happen but these are symbols to remind people left and right, you have to be responsive to the needs of people, democrats and republicans. people feel their vote is being ignored, that is the problem regardless the actions of a few whether they were trump supporters or not happen on capitol hill so we are in a moment created by policies not just from the trump era coming to manifest that we have to deal with. todd: your answer versus dan crenshaw's answer does emphasize

said. it was such a sad day for america. never in my life would i have imagined i would have faced something like we faced yesterday. we were in the middle of debate on the floor doing what america's legislature does. that's not how we solve problems. we come to the table, we talk about it, ideas on both sides. the right decisions. in the middle of our db security came in with steve scalise and nancy pelosi and majority leader hoyer, pretty easy for us to understand something was up. they told us to remain quiet and to remain seated. the next interaction we had was a member of the security team interrupted our debate, the

decision and if so, why? >> i have been asked that question, bison constituents to learn what i was thinking that yesterday was the confluence of several issues that are not necessarily related to one another. we talk about how america falls problem. we have a problem with this election, 250,000 people that voted in my district feel that their voices were disenfranchised and their voices were silenced because of unconstitutional acts and judges in other states. the constitution demands congress look at those issues and bring them to light. that would have happened yesterday whether the violence occurred or not and the american people still need to be able to

todd: the us capital secure after angry rioters scale the building in an unprecedented breach of federal property. jillian: the harrowing scene taking four hours for law enforcement to control. doctor darren porcher, you were not there yesterday but i'm sure you and all of us watch this throughout the entire day. it did take a long time for law enforcement to control this. in your expert opinion was it

poor communication? a breakdown of all of that? what went wrong? >> a combination of things. one of the first things is the intelligence was not sound, the capital police should have the intelligence on the crowd that was going to gather in front of the capital. i don't believe that occurred. if they had the proper intelligence they didn't put the necessary fortifications to protect the individuals in the capital complex. that being said the mob was able to breach the capital and placed the compound under siege. back to 1996 when i was a sergeant in the nypd we had arrived in madison square garden where we had 20,000 people in 200 cops but we had a plausible containment strategy that protected not just those who were related to casualties and injuries for parties involved, that didn't happen in the capital complex. todd: you mentioned madison square garden, definitely a

target, a private target, capital, is one of the most recognizable buildings in the country, one of the seats of government in our nation. how was this not, forget from yesterday. on a regular ordinary day how is there not more protection there in washington? >> this was an assault on our democracy. our system of government came under siege and we did not have necessary fortification from the capital police which eventually a triangulation of capital police, local police and the national guard came into the complex and did what was necessary after four hours. that is too much. it needs to be instantaneous and a plan on how to better protect and preserve our democracy specific to elected officials in congress. >> we are not seeing individual

together holding hands and kumbaya we will not have either of those things happen anytime soon. there is a very important point to be made regardless how you feel about the election. if you feel this election was fraught with fraud, if you feel the election was stolen from you what happened yesterday only grants the government more power over you and does nothing to take it back there is a gamble our constitution makes, the second amendment is the first place it makes the most sense, you have a right to keep and bear arms, you don't have the right to use weapons against the people. you have a right to scream and yell at elected leaders, you don't have a right to lay hands on them. the gamble is we retain that power as we the people so we use it responsibly and that's not what happened yesterday. when we renege on that gamble we risk losing it forever and that is what i am concerned about.

us at home. >> it was difficult. my praise for freedom in pounds of flesh so this doesn't have to happen so we can enjoy and indulge the freedoms we have so people in this country can say ignorance to the atrocities around the world that i have seen, experienced, why else would i do that? whiles what i go to work not to keep this country spoiled and ignorant and that turned into the worst version of itself, the worst part about this is i know those people who were there, i hang out with them, they are passionate and they are angry and they have a right to be but that right stops when you enforce your will on someone else, the only sacred promise our government has, to give us security, no guarantees just security. that was breached yesterday. i want to know what happened in
