"fox & friends first" on a monday morning continues right now. jillian: a good morning to you. you are watching "fox & friends first" on this monday. i'm jillian mele. todd: i'm todd piro. today, the house expected to move forward with its plan to force president trump out of office. jillian: speaker nancy pelosi says if the vice president does not invoke the 25th amendment, they will move toward a second impeachment. mark meredith is live in washington, d.c. to break it all down, good morning, mark. >> reporter: good morning to you. house speaker nancy pelosi says she has no issues with impeaching the president a second time and house plans to move forward with that very debate this week. first, pelosi says democrats are

going to introduce a resolution urging the vice president to act. they want him to invoke the 25th amendment to force president trump out of office. >> i'd like the 25th amendment because it gets rid of him. he's out of office. but there is strong support in the congress for impeaching the president a second time. this president is guilty of inciting insurrection. he has to pay a price for that. >> reporter: pelosi wants the vice president to respond within 24 hours of the house introducing a resolution later today. there are no indications that he plans to force the president out. meantime, some republicans say the president should spare congress the trouble and resign. pennsylvania senator pat toomey says he wants the president to step down. remember, the president's got nine days left in office here and toomey admits there may not be enough time to force his hand. >> looks as though there is the will or the consensus to exercise the 25th amendment

option and i don't think there's time to do an impeachment. >> reporter: with time running out, congress may choose to hold the president accountable with a censure, a formal rebuke of the president which both chambers could address quickly. they write, quote, a censure resolution is the way to send a bipartisan message without delay to the country and the world that the u.s. is a nation of laws. president trump did not make any statements over the weekend. he didn't tweet either. his twitter account was permanently suspended late friday. other social media channels were also of turned off over the weekend. two of the president's cabinet secretaries resigned last week over all this mayhem. if the house impeaches, this would be historic. president trump would be the first sitting president ever to be impeached twice. we'll keep watching. back to you. jillian: hard to believe all the news happening. mark, thank you. todd: what does this mean for the future of the republican party? fox fuse contributor -- news contributor ari ari fleischer hs more. >> my view for the future of the party, it needs to remain a

web services. that is collusion, that is anti-competitive practices, and if we believe in freedom of speech and dialogue, one of the things we've been talking about is let's create a competitor which i'm not totally crazy about because you have self created echo chambers but it's better than nothing and now you can't do that. you have almost a cartel that's been created for one ideological you viewpoint and one mission. jillian: conservative talk show host rush limbaugh deactivates his twitter account. he had nearly 89 million followers. twitter said het heth -- said ty didn't suspend his account. todd: a manhunt intensifies for six inmates who escaped from jail using a hand made rope. they scaled down the building with bed sheets tied together. their charges range from murder to violating probation. unclear how they were able to gain access to the jail's roof.

inflammatory. the impeachment would undermine your priority of unifying americans. congressman, do you agree with that sentiment? >> absolutely, 100%. i strongly encourage president-elect joe biden to not have pelosi and schumer do this. i encourage him to call upon them to end this and focus on his agenda. i've said many times it seems like over the past two years since the democrats flipped the house and became the majority that their sole priority was impeaching president trump and now they have an opportunity and a new administration and they're still talking about impeachment even with less than 10 days left in the presidency at a time when america is so deeply divided and we desperately need to turn the temperature down. jillian: let me ask you a bigger picture question if i can. there are many people in the republican party since last wednesday who have now distanced themselves from the president, others as you know obviously remain in support of him.

when the dust finally settles, what do you think the republican party looks like going forward? >> well, i think that the policies of donald trump are the future of the republican party. i believe that we need to become more of a blue collar party, more of a worker party. we need to still embrace our conservative values, especially our conservative social values. but we need to be a party of unity. we need to be a party, an inclusive party. we need to attract more minorities to the republican party and if we're going to grow, we're going to have to be a big tent party but consistent on our conservative ideology and focus on trying to help working americans. the forgotten americans. trump's base is the future of the republican party. these are people that feel like their voices haven't been heard and very strong sentiment in my congressional district. so i don't know who will be carrying the mantel of the republican party in the future but i believe the ideas that

president trump has talked about over the past four years and his agenda will be the future agenda of the republican party. todd: that sentiment more or less echoed by ari fleischer in a sound bite we ran about 10 of minutes ago. switching gears. the kentucky lawmakers, in your state, acting to reopen stores, schools, all in an effort to limit the governor's emergency power. do you agree with these efforts? grabs a lieutenantly. i was a -- absolutely. i was a member of the kentucky general assembly for 11 years, i studied kentucky political history. i've never seen a general assembly come down harder on a governor but it's warranted. he has unilaterally, without consulting with the legislature, he has shut down businesses and schools for months and months and months and i hasn't been following cdc guidelines. he hasn't communicated with trade associations and business owners and it's really put kentucky really behind economically, really in the hole

from a budgetary standpoint and i don't believe that he's going to be able to do that again after this general assembly gets through passing all the new bills. jillian: what does this exactly mean? it doesn't mean there wouldn't be any restrictions, right? it means that businesses would follow the least restrictive guidelines set either by the cdc or basheer, correct? >> correct. it also means when the general assembly is not in session, this is a part-time legislature, they're in session three months out of the year so the other nine months if he's going to pass an executive order of from now on, he will have to consult and get the approval of a buy bicamral legislature. jillian: thank you for your time. we appreciate it. >> thanks for having me. todd: still ahead, an american flat flag damaged in the -- flag damaged in the nashville christmas day bombing, found, framed and presented to the owner. jillian: the man and his wife who thought the family heirloom

jillian: a symbol of hope found amid the wreckage of the nashville christmas bombing. first responders finding jeffrey and sandy lee's american flag. they lost their boutique in the explosion but their flag was recovered in the debris. detective michael kalozo who helped recover the flag joins me along with the co-owners of simply the best ten dollar boutique, jeffrey and sandra lee. thank you for being here. let's start with you, detective. tell me about the moment you were in there, you saw the flag, and you realized you had to do something special with it. >> yes, ma'am. on that day the incident had

progressed through and we were asked if we could assist with grabbing some belongings for residents and business owners. on that day our victim coordinators spoke with ms. lee and ms. lee asked if we could go and retrieve personal belongings out of their business. myself and several other members of the search and rescue task force had went into the business to retrieve those items and that's when we saw the flag. the flag was sitting under a pile of debris. myself and one of the firefighters that was with us saw the flag and we just knew we needed to grab that flag and get it out of there for them. jillian: that's unbelievable. jeffrey, what does that flag mean to you? >> well, i mean, it was such an emotional moment. it means hope. it means opportunity and freedom. you know. most of all it means unity. it was them coming together with us and i mean, it was -- it represents us as a people. jillian: i can see it behind

the two of you there. sandy, tell me what that moment was like for you and the emotions that you were going through, i'm sure a lot of them. >> yeah, i was there the day they found it and i was expecting them to bring an antique bench back and they were so proud and so humble and excited to present it and honestly i was shocked that it survived. jillian: i'm sure. detective, there are a lot of images i'm sure that probably play through your mind from that day, things that you saw that -- because you were in these buildings, you were in that wreckage. hopefully this is one of those images that will stay with you forever as far as being an image of hope. >> yes, ma'am. and i'm hoping as well that as the time goes on the lee family and the other business owners in that area are able to rebuild and come back to our city. i've spoke with ms. lee several times and i'm looking forward to coming to their store, purchasing some items for my

wife and for my daughter. jillian: that's so cool. sandy, what does that mean to you? now you have this bond over this image here that we're all seeing play out on our screens but this is real to you, this is your store, this is your flag, you know, it's your life and now it's your bond. >> yeah, it's very important especially to jeff that we keep some of this history going forward and that we share it with our guests that will be in our future storefront. jillian: jeffrey, when you realized they recovered this flag and you had it presented to you in that frame, what went through your mind as far as -- i guess maybe changing perspective on life a little bit, changing perspective with relationships and with those members of your community. >> well, you know, there again, it was so emotional. but i looked around and here's guys that are black, white, every denomination, different religions, different affiliations, none of us really had anything in common but what

we had in common was us. and the hope that that flag showed us, you know. and really, it's what we do now that defines us. it's a big moment. jillian: what's your message to america about our you law law enforcement and our communities, jeffrey and sandy. >> embrace them. i mean, they do a job that very few people ever want to do and yet when you need them, they are there. they they don't ask questions. they don't pass judgment. they just are there to help us and give us hope. jillian: and you guys are going to rebuild the store? correct? what's your plan? >> we plan to. it won't be in its location now, it's going to be a long time before second avenue comes back but we're actively looking for new spaces downtown. tourism is our business. that's what we know. so we have a downtown corridor. we're working with people,

community outreach has been fantastic. it's individuals that have reached out to us. jillian: before we go, your message to detective kolazo? >> sandy? >> oh, my gosh. i mean, he just represents the police and the fire that are downtown nashville and that have supported us all throughout this 2020 year. they're amazing. and he has been a bright spot in what happened on christmas day. >> he's the best of the best. jillian: detective, a few words? >> i think they said everything. it's not just me that's down there. there's hundreds of other officers. i'm going to make sure that they get the recognition as well. they've been out there. they've sacrificed a lot. i know it's nothing compared to what all the victims have gone through but i just want to let everybody know that. jillian: absolutely. thank you all for bringing us a wonderful story of hope this morning. i'm sorry for your business. we appreciate you joining us.

jillian: good morning. welcome back. a growing list of businesses are putting a pause on political donations following lawmakers voting against joe biden's certification and to the deadly capitol hill riot. todd: cheryl casone joins us live with the breakdown. >> cheryl: in response to the riots and obviously some of the lawmakers' opposition to the certification of the electoral college like you mentioned, several major corporations are now pausing their political donations. pausing, this is not permanent, to be clear. citigroup announced it's going to pause contributions for the first quarter of 2021, they told

employees they're not going to support candidates who do not respect the rule of law. the ceo condemned the violence at the capitol. he said he was disgusted by the actions of those who stormed the capitol. other companies are making similar moves. commerce bank is suspended contributions and it condemns violence in any form. blue cross blue shield suspending contributions to all 147 lawmakers who voted against the certification of the electoral college. plus, marriott, widow nateed to missouri senator josh hawley. jp morgan chase, the ceo jamie dimon, a powerful voice in washington, said in a statement, i strongly condemn the violence taking place in our nation's capitol, this is not who we are as a people, our country. we're better than this. he added that elected officials in his mind have a responsibility to call for an end to the violence and accept the election results. this is a lot of companies, they

don't donate a lot of money, to be clear, sometimes a few thousand dollars, it's to pacs associated with a candidate but it's kind of a strong statement coming from corporate america in the middle of this chaos. jillian: cheryl casone live for us. thank you. todd: thank you, cheryl. president trump shut out of social media, major platforms like twitter and facebook banning the president from posting. tommy lawrence says this is an assault on our rights. what was your first reaction when you heard of the bans. >> honestly, i feel the left overplayed its hand once again. i think social media has been salivating over this, wanting to do this for so long and finally they've done it. i think they think it was some kind of victory, they think it was justified. there are probably 75 to 80 million plus americans who look at this as a true assault on our rights and freedoms and i would caution those on the left who are cheering for this, hillary

clinton, celebrities, who think this is a great thing. what makes them think this couldn't happen to them? what makes them think this isn't also an attack on their rights and their freedom? i would caution them from being so excited about this because it's only a matter of time before they feel the brunt of this too. they are not safe. todd: hillary clinton, she tweet as follows. check mark with delete your account remark from 2016 retweeted there below. robin kelly representative, while long overdue, i commend twitter for moving to condemn donald trump from the platform permanently. this is an important step toward accountability. and the republican hope senator joe manchin, democrat, thank you, twitter for taking this action. we must come together as a country to heal and find a common path forward. this begs the question, with democrats in charge of government going forward for the next two, maybe four years, and

so much money coming from silicon valley to democrats in the past election, will we see any form of accountability in the coming years? >> when you said the republican savior joe manchin, i would caution any conservative, any trump supporter, any republican, thinking that the gop, the republican party is going to be their savior or elected official will be their savior. we had an opportunity to deal with censorship when we had the white house, the senate and the house, and we did nothing. this has been a problem for years. i hope this is a wakeup call to the true patriots to understand that you might not have the representation in congress that you think that you do. so it's time for us to get louder. i would tell all conservatives out there whether you have a large platform like myself or you don't, it is time to use whatever platform you have to talk about your conservative values, to talk about freedoms, talk about limited government. because we are going to need those numbers. for these tech giants, these

new coronavirus cases, its biggest daily increase in more than five months. go to extreme weather now. a would yowouldpowerful winter g out power for customers in texas and louisiana. the storm is expected to move out of texas today and into the mississippi valley. senior meteorologist janice dean is tracking that system. good morning, janice. where is it? >> good morning. lots of great pictures on social media, by the way. and if you want to send them via twitter at janice dean i will proudly post them. a lot of folks loving the snow down south. it is cold enough for snow, in texas, 36 in dallas, 36 in houston. it's cold pretty much across the map here, even 52 in tampa. let's take a look at it. that's where we saw the southern snow moving through the mississippi river valley. it will start to die off or weaken as it moves across the

southeast and eventually offshore but we still have winter storm warnings in effect for parts of texas and louisiana, in towards mississippi. this is quite an incredible event for those guys and certainly i would love to see your pictures. so nice to see the snow sometimes on social media and look at the radar. so we'll see this exit the coast for tuesday. still mainly a rain event. but for now we are going to see the potential for snow over the mississippi river valley. there's the forecast today, just the storm system is going to move across the southeast in toward the mid-atlantic, a nice-looking forecast for the central u.s. we have another storm system moving into the northwest but all in all, i will say that temperatures are around average or above average even across the northern plains and the upper midwest. so pretty quiet, except for the storm across the south, and then things will start to really taper off as we get in through much of the workweek with a very quiet and above average forecast for many. back to you, jillian and todd.

carley: she has a message for christians who may feel disheartened during this chaotic time. she posted a tweet saying if you're a common sense person you probably don't feel you have a home in this world right now. if you're a christian, you know you are never meant to. meaning this is a steppingstone for eternal life in heaven so hopefully anybody watching out there right now that needs a little bit of cheering up can see that message and relate to it and feel a little better. jillian: a lot of people quitting social media, including harry and me meghan. carley: reportedly they're calling it quits on social media. the newspaper says the couple have become disillusioned by the hate they recover on social media. there are reports they are dropping social media because of online bullying and other reports say that it's a little too early to tell whether that's going to stick or not. this may just be a rumor.

about molotov cocktails, explosive devices and zip ties and all the things that were recovered and that were there in our capitol? >> as an american, seeing what i've seen, it's disheartening all around. i don't know what type of organization was involved and what the intent was. i think what we need as quick as possible but obviously the investigation needs to happen, we need a detailed timeline of what happened, where it happened and who did it. social media is saturated with people who are excusing the riot, they're saying bus loads of antifa showed up. they're showing videos that seemed to show police officers removing a gate or opening doors. what they're conven missing oute dozens of videos that show pure violence. and so we have these kind of contrasting narratives which is obviously very normal now in d.c. and i would love for someone in the position of authority to explain what happened on wednesday and why these videos

show sometimes a different scene. todd: it would be very, very necessary during these times. meantime, federal murder probe has been opened to the death of capitol hill officer brian sicknick. his family asked that his death not become a political issue. how important is it for not to become a political issue as we try and heal? >> well, i don't know how you hear about this officer and not think of him as a hero. he stood in the gap. he stood between innocent members of congress in the senate and a mob of americans that were passionately trying to i guess abd advocate for their rights. he ultimately lost his life but kept the groups apart from each other. that's the definition of a hero. we talk about going to war is fighting for your freedom and to a large extent that's true but more importantly going to war is fighting for your life, it's fighting for the lives of those beside you and for me in my war,

going through his head. i don't know if this is something he was trained to do or instinct took over but i can't thank him enough. as americans, we can't thank him enough. i can't imagine what we would be talking about today if more atrocity happened that day, if god forbid someone in the senate or congress were injured or killed. i think that we would be in a place that we couldn't come back from. today, even though we have loss of life, i think there is a path forward. there is a way for us to heal. and that officer's a big part of it. todd: if anybody knows terrorism and patriotism, it's you, sir. i think if you're giving him credit for that, i think it's incredibly patriotic. house democrats ready to impeach the president a second time. jillian: congressman michael waltz said that will ramp up tensions when they need to be toned down. he joins us live, next. if these beautiful idaho potato recipes are just side dishes, then i'm not a real idaho potato farmer.

we can see that tensions and frustrations and anger have completely boiled over in a horrible way. and i think this is just going to poor fuel on the fire. the president himself has come out repeatedly now and said he intends to peacefully transfer power. i intends to leave the white house. he obviously has tens of millions of followers. and that feel like they have not been heard. that feel like he has been hounded and harassed since day one. that senior members of the democratic party have called him illegitimate, a russian agent, a traitor since before he was even inaugurated. and now we have folks that feel like they can't go to church, they can't go to school. you know, they can't even get on social media now and i want to be clear, i denounce the

violence that happened last wednesday. i was interest on the floor. it was an awful, awful thing. but to now pour more fuel on the fire with impeachment 25th amendment and continue to have this narrative that for the worst political reasons are just going after the guy that so many people feel like speak for them is not helpful in any way, shape, or form. and if joe biden was serious about unifying the country, and take that mantle as the leader of his party, he wouldn't just take this hands off approach what congress is going to do what it's going it do and lead the country, including his own democratic leaders to a peaceful transition. todd: congressman, if i'm joe biden and trying to get my transition to move pretty well here what would happen with cabinet confirmations, covid relief. if i'm joe biden i am thinking this is a bad move. >> once again we will spend an entire week in congress working

through 25th amendment, censors, impeachment, all those things not additional covid relief. nothing towards the agenda that they said they espouse in terms of healthcare or infrastructure or transportation or getting his nominees as you mentioned into place. some of which are pretty contentious. so, you know, i just think this is really misguided. i understand they want retribution. they say they want accountability. the other thing on' accountability, let's have an investigation and hearings. if they want to have those, fine. instead, within four days they are going right to high crimes and misdemeanors and judgment. todd: we have about a minute remaining twitter accused of a double standard banning president trump's account but including, tweet down with u.s.a. means down with donald trump ambassador bolton and pompeo. means death to the american politicians currently in power. it means death to the few people running that country.

regardless of what you think about the president, how can you give twitter a pass on this when such a double standard clearly violent threat are made but no consequences for them. >> well, right. i mean, the list is long and awful. whether it's maduro in venezuela, of the ayatollah in iran, the chinese e.m.s embassya tweet up that i condemned talking about the forced sterilization of uighur women as a good thing. they can no longer have babies now and that thing. genocide. the double standard is replete but here's where, you know, i think this is just so bad for the country. is that we have such a fracturing on television where we have so many people operating in their silos with their biases getting reinforced and now have that on social media as well. we are going to see this further fracturing and a further divide
