>> that's the focus of tonight's "angle." the obscene move by democrats to militarize washington, d.c. compels me to think ahead about how to best beat these race obsessed pirates going forward. it's time to end the lockdown and reopen washington, d.c. for the american people.o stop the spying on our own citizens. stop using racial smears as weaponsoc against political opponents and trust the people and return to them their god given freedom. for the past year president trump and the republicans have had two priorities. number 1, reopen the country as soon as possible and number 2, provide temporary help to those who needed it.t. operation warp speed was a successful part of that plan. the democrats used covid to hurt the trump administration.

speaker pelosi holding up relief for months before the election. it was a disgusting example. second democrats embraced lockdowns that harm poor and working class americans and small businesses. we at the "angle" opposed this from day 1, going way back to last spring. why are states with far less severe outbreaks run by democratic governors still under lockdowns measures. lockdowns don't work. look at europe if you think they work. a new international study out today proves us right.

third, democrats repeatedly moved the goal post in terms of how long they thought it would take us to get back to normal or whether we would go back to normal ever. we could not do much about these facts during 2020. we warned democratic governors they were doing severe harm to local economies.. d we urged democrats in congress to work with the president on relief bills. now president biden will be going to the hill to respond to the virus. >> protective equipment and ventilation systems. we need $400 billion in funding of congress to make this happen. it's not just a smart fiscal investment. the return in jobs and racial equity will prevent long-term

damage. >> laura: when will the country reopen. biden will avoid that question. biden is with the teacher unions who don't want lockdowns to end before they get a massive payout from the treasury. the republicans must demand he give them specific targets explaining when the country will reopen. how many vaccinations it will take before everyone can go back to school or go to a baseball game or a wedding or throw away all of the masks? they will send out dr. fauci to talk about new virus mutations and scare us about how much worse things will we do if we don't do what biden and dr. fauci says. i do not trust dr. fauci. nothing he tells us going forward can be trusted. i do not trust the democrats. they are comfortable with the lockdowns and zoom classes and government stimulus checks and want them toba continue.

now they have control of the federal government. all of its resources will be used to promote more masks, more lockdowns and other measures that will hurt the working class. no republican should vote for anymore relief until biden puts his cards on the table about

reopening with exact details of how we will get our freedoms back. the gop should ask for details about how long the security measures will stay in place. we have to prevent serious harm happening in washington, d.c. or anyone else, but we can't let washington become an armed camp. that's the "angle." joining me now is kentucky senator rand paul. we moved from one type of lockdown to other. from covid to a military one. are you worried about this constant moving the goal posts and slow creep? >> absolutely. with regard to the pandemic lockdown the stanford study. it's in a medical journal. they studied ten different countries and the mandatory lockdowns did not better thanl suggestions.

i don't think we have changed the trajectory of the virus at all with anything we are told to edo. they will never let up on this. i tell people use common sense. if you have the disease or been vaccinated. throw yourur mask away and tell dr. fauci to take a leap. they will never let up. there are doctors saying we need to wear the mask in the back seat and wear them forever. that's ridiculous and defies the ayscience. when you have it and you have immunity or you had your second dose of the vaccine throw your mask away and tell these experts to take a flying leap. there is no scientific evidence that the lockdowns changed the trajectory of this virus. >> laura: what happened in washington, d.c. since january 6th with the extremists who went into the capitol. enormously destructive and lives were lost. are you concerned about the size

and scope of military deployment in the nation's capitol in the aftermath of that? >> you know government. they under-react or over-react. there was too little security last week and now we will become a militarized zone.e. they are checking congressmen for sharp pencils. most people who write about civil rights say in times of crisis you lose those quickly. it's difficult to get them back. government neverom wants to give up on this. we have to resist this. we have to have security obviously. but i think living in a war-time state -- we have troops in the capitol. they are staying in the capitol. they are platooning in the

capitol. i understand the last week we were not prepared and that wasas a real problem. now there is a danger of over-reacting. this virtual inauguration i will send my hologram or cardboard cut off. >> laura: this is what nancy pelosi said. >> it's necessary to have more security. we have to have more security than the intelligence might warrant in this case. redundancy maybe necessary. >> laura: i don't know if she knows what she is saying.

>> the redundancy is in her speech. we have to have adequate security. i want people and the president to be safe. i want the old president to be safe. one question with their crazy. i stuff is: will they strip president trump of his security? can you imagine being an ex-president and being stripped of your security? these people are bitter. i don't understand how they can move forward with this. i am not for everything that president trump has done. what they are doing now is an over-reaction. if they think they will have a positive feeling from the public going through a partisan impeachment again is wrong.

>> laura: and mitch mcconnell left open the possibility there will be a senate trial when president trump is already in florida? >> well,l, they will destroy the republican party. if leadership is complicit with an impeachment. they will destroy the party. i opposed president trump whenes he was wrong and for him when he was right. impeachment is partisan. it's for the moral, i am so much better than you. these are the kind of people that will do this. i didn't agree with the fight thatas happened last week. i voted against over-turning the election.im but at the same time, the impeachment is a partisan notion. if republicans go alongi with i,

it will destroy the party. a third of the republicans will leave the party. this is not about the electoral college. it's about the future of the college. if you ostracize president trump from the party millions of his fans will i leave as well. >> laura: millions of voters will feel they have been impeached too. and from a lack of trust in the american people to a lack of trust in the people you work with.y democrats are scared the republican colleagues and elected lawmakers will murder them. >> membersan are not talking abt i am worried my colleagues will get me killed in an indirect sense. their rhetoric might inspire someone. they are word that members either participated in the

attack or they will become a danger themselves.s. >> laura: congressman jim jordan. if you are a republican you may beer a murderer yourself. >> they are ridiculous. remember last summer, we have a democrat colleague said there should be more unrest in the streets while there was unrest in the streets. that language is scary and could increase violence. what they are saying now is ridiculous. there is no colleague republican or democrat who engaged in any behavior they are alleging. >> laura: the militarization of washington, d.c. everyone wants you all safe and federal and state institutions and people in their homes. is this response we are seeing in d.c., iss it commensurate wih

what you know with threats against the city? >> well, i will tell you, it's rough to see. you hoped nothing like this would be needed in our country. what happened last week was traditional and tragic and wrong as wrong can be. i hope this is not permanent. i hope we have safety and security but the presence is overwhelming. let's hope we get back to normal quickly. >> laura: author peggy nunan wrote that cheney's remarks urged others to impeach. they were stupid and cowardly. i guess she is talking about you. as they said yes too impeachmen. >> 19 minutes into the trump

administration the "washington post" said a campaign to impeach president trump has begun. this impeachment one week before he is to leave office is political and didn't help our country unify. what troubled me is the fact that she made an announcement in the harshest terms where she would vote 36 hours before the debate. i was charged with managing our debate on the floor. for 2 hours i heard democrats use the words liz cheney had said. i disagree with her. i have no problem with that. the problem is the nature in which it was done. >> laura: wait, wait, wait. i am confused.

your problem is a procedural problem? i think you need people in leadership that reflect the flus of the republican voters? >> i agree. >> laura: nothing personal against liz cheney but didn't reflect the republican base. >> i agree with that. she doesn't reflect 96% of our conference with the vote and the manner she announced the vote she would take caused members to have concerns about her actions. when you have 96% of the conference who was opposed to the leadership of the

conference, that's a big problem. i agree completely with that. >> laura: kevin mccarthy is saying he won't remove her. what do you say to him? >> i think there needs to be a secondth vote among conference members to determine whether she says. that's where the conference is. they would like to have another vote. nothing changed. >> laura: and the leadership battle is all about what comes next for the gop house. what about the base who got them elected? joining me is tom bevin. where does the gop base stand on donald trump and what does it mean for leadership? >> well, i will give you one example. there was a story in cincinnati, they did a focus group. 40 trump supporters. they came to a theater and listened to 6 people at the rally on january 6th what they experienced there. he asked the 40 trump supporters, is your support

increasing or the same or less? not a single one of the 40 people supported the president less than before. 40 republican officials across the country all still stood with the president. there is a disconnect of how this is being portrayed. the republican party who support president trump how they are interpreting what happened over the last couple of weeks. >> laura: president trump approval rating at 29%. but we know president bush was in the low 30s for much of that time. >> right. his approval rating dropped in the last 10 days.

later. >> laura: law enforcement challenged this early on saying blake had an open warrant out for arrest and was armed with a knife.e. the liberal politicians including the president and vice-president elect jumped on this narrative and then flamed the flames. they had an election to win. >> what i saw on that video makes me sick. once again a black man, jacob blake was shot by the police in broad daylight with the whole world watching. >> in america, these cases keep happening.g. we had too many back men in america who have been the subject of this kind of conduct. it has to stop. >> laura: well, following their cue from biden/harris, the media spread this narrative. >> a disturbing story out of kenosha, wisconsin where police shot an unarmed black man in front of his children. >> you see this incident. a man who appeared unarmed.

>> unarmed. >> people sworn to protect their community shot an unarmed man in his back seven times. >> laura: this is disgraceful. the predictable kenosha riots caused more than $50-million worth of damage. businesses were ransacked. and in the end just like with michael brown and cases before that, we end up learning the narrative that fueled the unrest was a lie. wa>> we see you when you walk ay from an officer after they try to grab you. i am rattled. i realized i had dropped by knife.e. i picked it up after i got off ofp him. because they tased me and i fell

on top of them. >> laura: where do the businesses of kenosha go for an apology and the every day americans who were told they and law enforcement are racists. jacob blake's paralysis from this shooting is another tragedy but so to is to use this tragedy to inflame a nation for political gain. do we expect politicians to sit back and say we got that wrong? is that too much to ask? >> well, we have not seen it yet. even as early as the obama administration. president obama and the department of justice, several high ranking democrats and of course the mainstream media weighed in on many of these claims.

there were fires. there was looting and all mannei of protests activities only to see that apparently the only end result is a big payout to benjamin crump and we find out a dead persone or shot person actually didn't merit the criminal charges or investigation against the officers that had been pursued because they were lawfully encountering the individual at the time. this story and narrative repeats itself. >> laura: in august "usa today"ed blake was not brandishing anything but admitted the video showed something was in blake's hand.

"usa today" updated the piece but won't change their fact check ruling because it was based on what was known at at the time. how anyone takes these people seriously. we hear those who incite violence should be prosecuted, okay what about the reporting where they ignored the facts? what about that inciting violence? we forget what happened in kenosha? it's an embarrassment that happened to a great city because of false reporting. >> the rioting, the mayhem is essential to demonstrating the truthfulness of the allegations made. it doesn't the case that the allegations are true and then there is mayhem. it's the case you need the mayhem.

the real tragedy here, how many business owners and homeowners have lost their lives as a result of the fake narrative that was put forward? it's 50 million in kenosha but the insurance industry inhe america says it's half a billion dollars from just what happened this summer as a result of black lives matter rioting even as we have yet to see these cases turn around into prosecutions or convictions. >> laura: when the fbi wants to find people with facial recognition, they can find them real quick. >> absolutely. >> laura: they got those and i am glad they are arresting

people and investigating this quickly, but we were calling for the same type of focus and aggressive prosecution to shut violent protests down taking advantage of blm. >> absolutely. remember now even before the pandemic, we were seeing an epidemic of assaults calling them polar bear attacks. individuals without masks were attacking those elderly, white or male and we didn't see the fbi. >> laura: yes. a lot of people -- there was never justice found and delivered. it must be across the board

which is why he is talking about the recall and those opposed to him in press conferences. you are under their skin when they talk about you. >> laura: a lot of people in the tech world want to move to the countryside. they have a problem with people fleeing california because it's not liveable. it's not affordable and locked down most of the time. >> yes, what took them so long to realize that it was just unaffordable? it's like that all over the state especially in the bay

area. the governor rolls out his new budget. ali million and a half dollars r hybrid vehicle infrastructure. people are out of work and an unemployment department that can't get people's benefits out to them and he is spending money on electric vehicle? he doesn't understand how the average person lives and what they need. >> laura: still has the welcome mat out for illegal immigrants. the mayor of long beach said this about that million plus joining this effort. watch. >> some of the same forces that are anti-immigrant and pushed back against people of color in our state that, have demonized low income folks are behind these recall efforts. >> laura: other democratic critics call this a coup.

your reaction? >> [laughing]. nice try. a liberal in california called bs on this one. this is constitutionally allowed. you can't call it a coup because you don't like it's happening. come on. i hope they decide to try a different tact. that clearly doesn't work. there is no coup taking place. what is taking place is californians are saying you are not fit to lead and you will find someone who can. >> laura: i want you to hear something from the fresno city council manager about this recall. >> the same folks who participated in in un-american recall on democracy are the folks behind the effort to recall governor newsom. republicans are pushing their political agendas. that behavior won't be tolerateed in california.

>> laura: what do you say to that? >> treason? what are you talking about? we are unhappy with his leadership and how he is governing the state into the ground. that's not treason. that's patriotism. they can talk all day long how they think this is a coup and hostile take over. it's not. they know it. they are just trying to get people whipped up into a frenzy and act like victims. the only victims are the california business owners who were shut down for months and months. people who can't pay their bills. they are the advantages and not gavin newsom.
