"the ingraham angle" from washington tonight.ju we begin with a fox news alert. defense secretary lloyd austin announced each branch of the u.s. military will schedule a 6n day stand-down to allow each service to have "needed discussions on extremism in the ranks." we are going to talk about this insane force of action with ron desantis and newt gingrich in moments. but first, no ransom for hostage takers. that's the focus for tonight's angle. this week, i'm reminded why a record number of americans turned out to vote for donald trump in november. tens and thousands of people would show up at his rallies and wait for f hours in the extreme heat and bitter cold, stuck with him during sham impeachments in the mueller a investigation's? they did all of this because to them he was the last thing

11:07 pm
republicans have to do with the fact that liz cheney, who holds a position, widely celebrated among the press corps. calling for cheney to give up her leadership position failed in their effort tonight. but that effort wasn't due to democratic pressure but rather it was based on the principle that if you want to lead the republican party, not just be on any committee, but be in a position of leadership, you shouldn't help democrats pursue an unconstitutional vendetta. it's telling that pelosi and her pals in the press are protecting liz cheney and going all out to link miss greene to trump and push the impeachment trial conviction. >> there's a spectrum of bad in the g.o.p. it's not just marjorie taylor greene. >> marjorie taylor greene represents a significant portion of the republican base today.

clear to everybody watching now, we have to translate washington to the rest of the country every night paid with all due respect, it's not about you, it's not about congresswoman greene, is not any one of you. this is about trying to take out anyone ever connected to donald trump. because they do not want to have to spend that much money again the beat someone like him in 2024. that means take out anybody connected with him. they say it's a third of thehi republican party or the country who still supports his ideas? it's about the ideas, congresswoman. they want to brand as racist or what's a premises even though they were quite popular among various minority groups. >> this is a movement the democrats cannot seem to stop your they have spent millions of dollars trying to do that. they only expose their hypocrisy and show they'll never hold one another accountable.

>> laura: they are afraid of you. you are optimistic, young, they want to scare you. doesn't sound like they are doing a good job of t it. of course, the left smears against members of congress. they wouldn't be so effective if not for big tech. silicon valley is in a bunch of start ups anymore but massive monopolistic corporations in total lockstep with the democrats. with congress, a failure to reit them in, florida governor ron desantis one states laws to hold big tech accountable. says that if a tech company dte platforms a florida candidate for elected office during an election, well, they will take a dailyin fine of $100,000 until e candidates access is restored. governor desantis joins me now. governor, do you see what's going on with these moves to censor and cancel and threaten members of the g.o.p. with every manner defamation, how is big
11:15 pm
tech and your fight for fairness related? >> laura, if you go back ten years, big tech or some of thesl platforms were liberating and critically for conservatives because it gave us a way to get around the legacy corporate media which we distrusted for a longly time. what's happened for the last 4-5 years is they have turned from liberating platforms to enforcers of the preferred narrative. they are colluding with some of those failed legacy outlets to try and enforce this prescribed narrative for that means you have a lot of conservatives that get let out on that. what we are trying to do in florida, a few things, we really believe in people's privacies and the way they manipulate data is a problem. we want to prevent interference in elections, but we also want to have a broader collection against d platforming censorship for the average floridian so we provide them to be able to sue

11:17 pm
and it not count. of course, you have run-of-the-mill floridians, people who own small businesses, they are looking at what happened to parler, what happened to other people who have been canceled. can big tech shut down their access, payment processing, email, all this stuff, i do not think this is something 5-10 years ago we thought would not be possible so i think these protections are warranted and i think most floridians will appreciate half of them. >> laura: long overdue. i need to get to the breaking news tonight that biden's defense secretary lloyd austin has ordered a military wide pause today in order to "address the kind of extremism within the ranks thrust into the public view on january 6th." i think you have about give or take a few 17 or so military installations in your state?
11:18 pm
this sounds like a coming purge of traditionalist pluralists in the military. how offensive is this? >> i think it's offensive to suggest our active-duty sailors, marines, soldiers who are stationed in florida are complicit in any of that. these are people that are patriots, they wear the uniform proudly. when our national guard was asked to go up to d.c., they wanted to look at some of their beliefs and we wouldn't let them do that. i think it's inappropriate. waits to see what this means but i can tell you we have a lot of great folks on active duty and to view them with suspicion without evidence is not something that i would support. >> laura: i have to say, your state which i spend a lot of time in, they don't manage a virus well compared to some of the other states that were locked on for way too long, their economy is way better off. people should understand this about florida. unemployment rate of 6.1%
11:19 pm
compared to 8.2% in new york, 9% in california. yet the pressure on you, governor, to stay closed, to keep restaurants closed, all sorts of other mandates, was significant. you got an enormous amount of grief. why did you stick to your guns? >> look, the job of a leader is to take on the grief in order to save people's jobs, to get people back in schools, to ultimately save a lot of lives. one, the virus response is more effective when it's targeted at a vulnerable population which we did do aggressively, but i also think we save the livelihoods of so many people. y you have less suicide deaths, less drug abuse deaths, lessea despair in florida because we were open and a lot of the lockdowners lost sight of that. we are the less per capita for us to be 26 mortality.
11:20 pm
as you said, our unemployment rate is much less than the national average. we have kids in school.ve in december we had $330 million more in revenue than what was projected because people are coming here and they understand that florida is open and a place they can pursue their dreams. >> laura: you are now being called one of the free states in the united states. south dakota, florida, texas, a few others. a lot of people wanting to move to the free states. governor, thank you so much. great to see you tonight. in moments, we expose the left's newfound yet hollow appreciation for law enforcement. plus new great and rich response to the lake's idea to turn our national security apparatus against americans. stayay there.
