an opportunity. jillian: what were your plans? >> my hopes were to get mvp. another defensive lineman of the year. that was a big goal for me. i did amazing - my film. it really goes to a defensive lineman, i want to change that. todd: i understand the argument one reason kids need sports is the mental aspect and inclusiveness on the team but you are in a different strata, you are talking money, your future, scholarships. did gavin newsom cost you money? >> he did. with a lot of opportunities that could come along with the

process of going towards offers in scholarships but that being taken away was a huge thing for high school students and it is a big thing for high schoolers, student-athletes. we love to work on our stuff. we love the sport. jillian: what was the breaking point that made you go to twitter and say that and what was the reaction? >> the breaking point was me not having that season but pushed and the reaction has been ridiculous. jillian: you have parents,

>> we can educate about this opioid crisis can't be enough. when i saw this settlement, what the prescription opioids have done. we have 42,000 deaths in 2016, 47,000 in 2017, 46,920, and opioid recovering addicts. the journey using heroin, with prescription medicines. jillian: 573 million doesn't bring back your loved ones. >> like in kermit, west

virginia, and hydrocodone tablets in a town of 400 people and $10 million. where does that money go? we are in the midst of a pandemic in the depths of despair during this pandemic, there is an unsettling rise. people who have died as a result of overdoses. last year during the pandemic. this is not going away. $573 million, a drop in the bucket for companies that made billions of dollars off of this. jillian: we deeply regret we have not acknowledge the consequences unfolding in our communities with disagreement, we hope to be part of the solution to the opioid crisis in the us. what was your son jack like? >> it has been four years, 9

months, 30 days since jack passed on april 6th, 2016, and jack was a great kid, and artist, piano, guitar, he was fiercely fiercely loyal, he was dean's list, thinking about becoming -- working in the nursing field so he had a lot going for him but jack had something that he was doing heroin. and he did it very very well. shannon: tell me about your brother. >> i just want you to know you and jack are in my thoughts and prayers. my brother passed away in 2012 when i came home from afghanistan and the toxicology report reveals his overdose was due to legally prescribed medication. my brother had been using heroin

too. it is disturbing when you recognize that so many of these people when they are using heroin in the end a lot of them are dying from legally prescribed medication which adds to the culpability of these companies that -- purdue pharma and mckenzie. jillian: a couple seconds left for each of you. what can we do going forward as far as education to better where we are with opioids? >> my last statement, all the viewers are watching. go into your doors, medicine cabinets, take your opioid prescription drugs and lock them up and then get rid of them in a safe manner at a medical dropbox. we have them in our police stations. if everyone will listen, think about how many lives we will save. jillian: final word to you.
