that plane was forced to make an emergency landing in belgium, the happens to be a cargo hub for international flights. reports that falling debris and never lends her to people on the ground, sending one to the hospital and damaging cars when the stuff fell. this happened on the same day that the engine on a boeing 777 united airlines 328 fire shortly after taking off from denver international airport pieces of metal from cowling, the mbs peak investigate what caused the fire. we are learning more about what happened inside the airliner at one of the passengers on board tweeted out was scary as hell. christina coleman live from los angeles with the very latest on both engine fires. reporter: apparently eight hours before the emergency landing in denver another plane a boeing 747 headed to new york from the netherlands had an engine fire in a boy and a woman

were hurt in this incident. the cargo plane taking off from the city and just like the plane out of denver, this aircraft had engine trouble shortly after takeoff. the dutch regional safety inspector said debris fell from the aircraft, several homes and cars were damaged in the cause of this engine trouble is under investigation just as it is in denver after a boeing 777 plane made an emergency landing yesterday. no one was injured in the incident but there was significant damage on the ground and terrifying moments in the sky. fortunately the crew was able to land the plane safely, take a listen to the may day call. >> 328 experience failure, need to turn. >> may day may day 328 heavy may day may day aircraft. >> 328 heavy. >> denver departure united 328 aircraft experienced failure

miraculously, no one was hurt. >> we heard the bang it miss being directly above us by less than 10 feet. that big a piece would've gone through our roof. >> scary moments there, you have two engine fires on two different planes within 24 hours in the cause of both under both incidents are under investigation. arthel: christina coleman in los angeles, thank you. by the way united airlines had a crash landing, i cannot catch it in time, i usually do but for the record the united flight incident was not a crash landing it was an emergency landing. of course, were gonna go to texas where the temperature is finally rising but the crisis is far from over, many people still have no clean water and boiled water advisories are expected to stay in place through tomorrow

at least. the city of houston has lifted its advisory. crews are working around the clock to get water systems back online after the massive winter storm dealt a direct blow to the texas power grid. the ongoing crisis raising questions about the future of that system which is uniquely independent of the rest of the country. >> power-sharing would've been helpful, if we would get off shared with other power grids. the difference between texas and the northeast, we are not prepared for this are used to this kind of weather. so when it happened, our entire system was not winterized for sub 0 degrees temperature as it is in the northeast, that's what we will take a look at moving forward. eric: adam klotz standing by with the latest forecast which is bringing you good news let's begin with casey stegall on the

disaster declaration that has been approved by the president governor abbott has also requested for a disaster designation from the usda for several counties that have been impacted severely in the agricultural sector. eric: all take it, tough time in texas, a lot of folks are hurting but hopefully it is getting better. later on in this hour you will hear from the police department about the continuing crisis in the lone star state. as i mentioned a moment ago mother nature as temperatures are rising right now but the state is in for a long recovery from last week's disaster. >> i did not have to wear a jacket but even though the temperatures are getting warmer a lot of texans are still going to be impacted over the next weeks and months the broken water lines, this is really significant, that is causing low water pressure, this may not get resolved for months.

eric: meteorologist adam klotz joins us now and the goal is to get the overnight temperatures above the freezing mark so snow under below 32 degrees at night. >> a week ago daytime highs that were only near freezing and we are seeing a big shift in temperatures across the entire southern united states. we are seeing temperatures up to 73 degrees so way above we were several days ago. overnight temperatures are still cold and we will deal without any moisture precipitation that moves through the area is going to stay mostly dry. the radar is clear down there the only winter system is the upper planes getting into the great lakes that's where you see a little bit of snow but is a real cold air, we could go this is the arctic air mass that slowed down from canada reaching down to the southern border no word close to that now, a couple of chili overnight temperatures this is getting in early

tomorrow morning and moving around freezing proportions of north texas but this is a fairly cold night for the next week or so before it warms up quite a bit. daytime ties in the 50s and 60s in dallas area and overnight lows mostly above freezing maybe getting down close but certainly much warmer weather and that will be good for people who don't have power in situations like that. otherwise across the entire region were looking at warmer air settling in this is for monday's forecasted high i take you into tuesday and i take you into wednesday and you're beginning to see a cooling in the middle of the country, the good news warmer weather both daytime and nighttime is just around the corner. eric: finally, thank you so much. arthel: we are going to go north were newark lawmakers say governor andrew cuomo should be stripped of his emergency powers

arthel: thank you, president biden attorney general nominee judge merrick garland is set to appear before the senate judiciary committee tomorrow for his confirmation hearing, you may remember five years ago senate republicans refused to act on president obama's nomination of judge garland for the supreme court. he is expected to get bipartisan support this time but the same cannot be said for one of president biden's other cabinet pics. mark meredith has more. >> starting monday the senate will hold two days of hearing examining merrick garland's record and his plans for the justice department, he previously served as a department in the 1990s back then overseeing the country's top cases including the prosecution of the oklahoma city bomber in 1997 garland was confirmed to the u.s. court of appeals for the d.c. circuit, a

eric: president biden approving a major disaster declaration for texas. that after last week's winter storm killed dozens of people and devastated the states power grid. what's unique in our nation independent not part of the national grid and therefore also not officially winterize. some say those policies left millions of people without heat or electricity when the frigid temperatures hit. crews have restored most of the

power and contrary to the household in the state street houston and galston have looked at boil water advisories but millions of texans still struggling to get food and clean water. let's talk about that with the officer of chief of police in fort worth, texas and joined us now. officer what is the situation on the ground right now in fort worth? >> first and foremost thank you for having us on the show today. currently today were at 70 degrees temperature with the majority of the ice and the snow gone from the roadways or anyone else on our city streets. right now were looking at tremendous whether based on what we faced last week, any texan would take this weather compared to what we had last week. eric: hopefully as we said last week that the temperatures will go above freezing, thank goodness. what about the boil water, that band has been lifted in west fort worth, has been lifted for

the whole city? >> currently work out arboreal under boil water for certain portions and during that freeze many of our residents and businesses were impacted by the water boil restrictions. the city officials with the health department did a tremendous job along with our water department to get sufficient water out to these businesses and residents without any utilities. eric: if you need food what is the situation on the supermarket shelves and what are people doing? >> during the week last week a lot of our food markets and stores throughout the city were very low on stock for individuals to go and get food from the shelves. right now as conditions are getting better businesses are able to get food into the restaurant to provide warm food for these residents in our city. right now were doing good in that aspect of getting food on shelves for our residents without any food or water for

several days. eric: what was it like going through this you had more than 500 water main breaks, that is amazing for fort worth. how does law enforcement and authorities respond to all of this, it must've come as a shock since you usually do not go through this type of weather. >> that is correct with the worst weather service in the last 70 years in north texas. that left hundreds of thousands of residents without utilities. these were the same issues our offices were faced at their homes but they still put the uniform on, reported to duty to help out in a time of need. just like our mayor in chief has stated before it just the fort worth way of reaching out for members of our community and trying to help out in any possible way that we can. one thing we responded to over 23000 calls for service from february 14 through the brace 17th the city went into action to create warming centers source system had a place to just stay

warm to receive medical treatment, we had numerous nurses throughout the city that came out and volunteered their time and effort department were able to triage the shelters which provided 30 individuals to get transported to local hospitals. when the shelter reads were relieved from the warming centers they were provided medical screening in our officers went to the residence homes to make sure they had utilities when they arrived home. the fort worth police department, the city, fort worth fire department, net star, the citizens, business community came together just like the fort worth way to help hundreds of thousands of people that needed utilities. eric: that is a wonderful example of local government operating appropriately as it should having police officers check after the people are released to make sure they're not going home to a home that does not have any utilities and heat.

it is a controversy and heels in comparison to the controversies we are normally talking about on your program but it's a shift in the shift that has been allowed by new senate majority leader charles schumer, chuck schumer bringing them back and it's correct to say that both sides are sometimes supported of earmarks and somebody covered john mccain's campaign in 2008 i certainly remember how oppose he was for them and they were out of the conversation for many years but now they are back. arthel: they are back and they may soon be labeled as congressional initiatives. are there other democratic earmarks or others that the republicans might balk at and doesn't even matter because will president biden have the votes you need regardless? >> i think the last question is key go into the reconciliation process right now it looks like he will have the votes. that does not mean he will get everything that he wants he just

said he expects his desire to raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour will not end up in the final package. probably some of these earmarks will and i don't know the hill, on that or not but that will raise questions and has raise questions already. arthel: when you look at bipartisan support you just mentioned what about judge merrick garland, how do you think that's going to go this week? >> it is interesting garland to we remember president obama nominated that the supreme court in the republicans controlled the senate at that time and wouldn't even give him a hearing. but despite that he might interpret that that republicans don't like him, it's not that they don't like him and i think you will see a bipartisan vote on him this week. he's released testimony that he will give i believe tomorrow and is going to talk about civil rights and talk about his background as a prosecutor which

predates his time as a judge and his reputation for his time on the bench has been to be very fair. arthel: i want to move away from capitol hill and go to new york state governor andrew cuomo in the nursing home scandal that has been widely reported young fbi attorney's office in brooklyn investigating, and wondering democrats are calling for this investigation preclude the governor from calling this a political persecution? >> it certainly raises pressure on him when there are calls for an investigation from both parties, whether you're a democratic governor or republican governor created to the criticism. the criticism is bipartisan or certainly that call for investigation is with the people congresswoman ocasio-cortez that raises the stakes in the pressure was now somewhat in battle governor. arthel: we have to leave it
