for me he was a dear friend, we will have on the program my buddy sean hannity, we worked closely with rush, and good friends with rush, before that, i want to show you what kind of a human rush was, the salt of the earth. going to help people, he didn't know. over the years we would communicate a lot. we would text and e-mail every night, every day. we shared our thoughts about life, governments, economics and the events of the day, he was smart estimate most wise person that i have known apart from my parents. i want to read you something from a book that i wrote, nothing do with politics or

philosophy, rescuing is bright. i wrote this book after we had to put our adopted dog, our rescue dog sprite to sleep. we never experienced that before. since that we have done it 3 additional times, it is horrific every time. but as i was going through that. i was texting rush. i want you to hear some things he had to say. i know he would want me to share them with you. it is in the book. so as sprite was ill and we had to put him to sleep, i am a big dog lover, a huge dog lover. i said there were nights when i was alone working in my home offers, i could barely stand the

emotional pain from the thought of losing sprite. we hadn't put him to sleep yet, but were about to, i had a deep bond with this dog, he suffered from a variety of ailments since the day we adopted him, he was a dog at peace with himself, not a mean bone in his body. from the delay first met him -- the day we first met him we were all taken by his friendly less and tender less. -- friendliness and tenderness, he was facing the leg biggest challenge, i thought i was letting him down, i was his caregiver, in his time of greatest need, i couldn't do a damn thing to help him, it was killing me, i reached out to certain family members and close friends, one such friend was rush limbaugh. we have been close friended for many years, all politics aside he was one of the most

compassion decent people they known. when i had complications from my heart surgery in 2000, spent 6 months in and out of hospitals, rush asked me, what i needed to do to get well, i told him i was thinking to go cleveland clinic. he asked me why i didn't just go, i said, i had to find out if insurance would pay for it it be expensive. back then i did not have a great deal with money rush responded, the hell with the insurance, i'll pay for it, just go. let me know how much it is, he did that for many people. i didn't need his help. all costs were covered, paid for. by insurance and me, i never

forget his generous offer, he is genius with strangers too, but he does not like to talk about it so i won't either. on september 29, 2006, rush and i were instance messaging each other, i rarely speak to him on the telephone, she total deaf. since we're both on computer most nights, instance messaging is the best way to communicate, on this night, i was down. as i was sitting at my desk, i could feel myself sinking into a dark hole, rush and i talk about everything, i began a conversation about sprite, and wore my emotions on my sleeve, it looks like our dog sprite is dying, i can't imagine dealing with this, i pray i am wrong about this may i ask you a question. when your cat was dying, what do you do? rush was a huge cat lover.

he had a couple cats he really adored when one got sick he was deeply pained by it he wrote, i feel for you, she had a stroke it was sudden. gave her a weekend to recover but had to put her down, it was very sad. did you take her to the vet to be cremated, i asked? >> yes, scattered her remains on the property. a long time since i really bawled but i won't be able to control it well here, i said, i have been wondering what the hell am i doing with my life sometimes. do you ever do, that i wonder sometime if i should to something else, i try to do the right thing, but i wonder about life's purpose.

rush replied, i once said that to a soldier i met. he lost an eye and an arm in iraq, i felt embarrassed, he was praising me for my role, he said, we all have our roles, i think you c creeping guilt mark, fight that, we're all who we are, it takes all of us to make a country, i said people who are true believers in their particular religions have satisfaction, if they think they know how things will work out, i don't know, rush wrote, i think about this all of the time, i have incredible faith. i don't go to church, but communicate with god so many times a day i can't count. i know what you mean. you should research malcolm, he sought to disprove christianity and be came a believer, i don't mean you should convert but

smart people go through this all of the time, these dogs are the essen of love, i said, she he responded, your dog on a dog, animal unable to defend for itself because it is domesticated, you took it in gave it a life far better, your dog sprite has been loved, he loves you back in his own way, unconditionally, you have done a great thing by giving hip the --him the life he has had and va versa it all positive, every living treature will die -- creature will die some time but the quality of life, is much more than some humans have. you are miss him rush went on, that is a sign of close attach

am. you can be assured he had a great life for a dog, it was fulfilling both ways and having him not suffer in the end is an act of compassion, it is not easy emotionally and it should not be, if you are close to anything you will eventsly lose one way or another, the getting close that provides the joy, it will be worth it in the end, i said sorry to be a downer, he said these are things that give really means to life. which is what you are questioning, he add you never stop to think of all positive ways you impact others for good. it is profound. you may think from time to time that your kids are in trouble, but they are not, they are going through normal stages at their

time of life, your influence and impact as a parent will blossom in them as human beings long after you are gone, they will pass on in the same way. you don't stop this think about these things but you way you feel about your dog is noticed by your children, it affects them in ways you cannot know and translate in positive ways in how they treat other people in life. they are little things. like continued to accumulate. your values are what you are, or what they are. they are good and they do get transferred. in the end, i wrote, i don't deal with death very well, i am not afraid of my own death, rush said, i ponder this stuff all of the time. there are wees that we ask to where there are no human answers that proves the -- he said you

know. what i have noticed, not one old person who knows they will die has panicked over it. neither of my parents was panicked, there is something that happens. sudden death, plane crash whatever is death, i have been thinking about it all my life, we all want to know the purpose of this. i say, i'm going up stairs now, spend time with the dogs and go to bed. you are a great friend. you too, mark. enjoy your time with the dogs, make of the most of it for yourself, that is the rush limbaugh i knew. about dogs. listen to his passion and compassion, listen to how much he thought about these things. he was a generally decent, kind human being, he thought deeply

about deep subjects. we all got to participate in his life and he will be gravely missed. dying at young age of 70. right to the end, family members tell me, he fought very hard. he was a bull, he was stush st -- stubborn, he did not go easily, those last days he broadcast on radio, he was talking to you, i could tell you, he told me many times and he told you, directly on the air, he adored you and loved you. and i could tell you it is true. he lived for his family and his friends and for you. radio was his passion, not tv. not writing, he did no. those, but radio. high was bigger than life to me and many of us.

mark: welcome back america. you know, sean hannity and i are like brothers, as rush and i were like brothers. and david limbaugh and i were like brothers and russia's rushr full family. we spent time with rush and talked with rush, spent time with rush, our relationship with rush and each other is very deep. people think that because you are on radio or tv or whatever, that you are competing with each

other, we're not. we adore each other, we root for each other and celebrate each other. that is the nature from most of us in this business. and i wanted to have sean on for the program so we could talk with this magnificent audience and his magnificent audience about rush, sean, rush saw a lot of talent in you, he asked you to be his substitute host early on, you were the one, nobody el,. do you remember the first time you spoke, and met him. >> i do. no one has asked that we. i do. believe it or not, i was in atlanta and i was local host there. i was traveling all over doing radio. i lived in 5 different states, as you know mark, rhode island,

california, alabama, georgia. i was in georgia at the time. actually, i met him a trip i took to new york, to be on phil donohue's daytime show about talk radio. i remember. there were a bunch of us on the panel, we all know from radio. phil donohue, we would be micked up, and walk in, you -- no sooner than we're seated, he world start, i call it that donohue walk. i realize donohue is talented broadcaster. although i disagreed strongly with his opinions, he starts like this, he said you see those guys, all these guys, they are the ones saying these horrible things about your president. that is how the show started. i am all right here we go.

a heck av an hour. tom was described on show as a pissed off liberal, i went to wabc, i met rush, he could not have been more gracious, he knew who i was. i then saw him not that long there after, a big station event at an atlanta station, i met him there and i saw him with people and be gregarious we did a local radio station contest, we had winners fly up with me to go watch his tv show, during that tape, he actually called me down, a local host, he didn't have to acknowledge me. and remember he had his rush ties, and he gave me one. on his show. that night. th was the beginning of getting to know somebody. you then is important to know mark, you described that deep

personal side of rush. that i knowickived as well -- i know existed as well, sometimes when he was chatty, we would text away about all thing, contusion, the country, and constitution. you know, he just this guy that had this passion and this love and this desire, it wasn't just about him being successful. he is on three hours a day. radio stations run 24 hours a day. he always understood that it was good for all of us, we have all benefited, he was a trail blazer, and forged path we followed. it was never a zero-sum game, he celebrated your success, could not have been kinder to me about my success, let me fill in for him on his radio show.

and you as well. help us in every way possible, there was a generosity in him a lot of people, i wish they knew that side of him, people want to believe what they to believe. he took a lot of you know those darts those slings and arrows came at him first. when we followed it was easier for us because we saw okay that is part of the job. we just assume that will be part of our life every day. and i know he was proud of all your success. we used to make fun of you behind your back. i said this -- -- >> that is all right we made fun much you too. >> i hope you did. it was he reported your genius. i always say that your wheelhouses are constitution, your wheelhouse is our framers and our founders.

you. you are now mr. conservative. sean: it is was right, hard for me to wrap my mind around the fact that any major political issue that will come up, we will not hear his voice. i'm very a hard time understanding what that means. nobody could replace this man, mark. my audience on radio and tv and people i talk to, they ask all of the time, we are missing rush, only answer i can give them is nobody can replace him. we all better up our game, we just lost a guy that led the movement for 30 years plus. before the break, i was talking about his respect for audience.

he and and i think this bears repeating, i talked about it a number of times now, as we know what rush's bucket list was, a dire diagnosis from day one. you know advanced stage 4 lung cancer. we know what that means. you and i, that day, we heard it, we called each other, we talk for a long time. it was a very emotional call. we knew this day would come, unfortunately, we wished it wouldn't, we prayed for a miracle. but rush's bucket list, i hope audience understands, it wasn't travel the world, it wasn 't rocky mountain climbing or skydiving or ride a bull, his bucket list was his audience, he would go through treatments that nearly killed him, i know people

that have been through chemo like this and cancer treatment like this, advance stage, they nearly kill you to save you your kill you to buy you time. and that is the last year of his life. when he was well enough, ven, en really not well enough, the way he wanted to spend his time was with his audience, that was his chip stocks are the people -- what was his choice, the people that listened to him, that was top and only item on his bucket list, to me that speaks volumes about him. how much he loved what he did. he was born to do this. nobody did it better, nobody will do it better. and i think that we could all take comfort in knowing that, that is the man that we put our faith and our trust and hope and learn from, generations of americans, learning from him,

mark: welcome back, sean hannity. you know, rush, really admired ronald reagan. enormously, he admired bill buckley, they became friends, and he admired donald trump, i think he came to love donald trump they got to know each other personally, we don't have a long segment. but i want to suggest this to you, what do you think. i think they had some characteristics in common, they were outsiders. they were both underestimated.

they were both confident and independent. they played by their own rules. and they were successful beyond anyone's imagination. and donald trump becoming president, and rush limbaugh what he accomplished. one thing that attracted rush to donald trump, what do you think? sean: interesting, in last segment, i gave the list of what we as conservatives believe when you break it down, we're fighting for well, reagan fought for, that rush fought for that every day of his life he never changed. i talk about three -- you could add a fourth one, the foundational conservatism or modern conservatism. you could look at bill buckley, no doubt, one of the most interesting people to ever interview.

i had a number -- number of occasions when i did. you look at reagan and how he advanced conservatism and next waive newt gingrich with contract with america on this week on my show said he does not think they would have taken control of the house without rush in 1994. and the third would be donald trump. and that was a surprise for people. i think you remember, i came under tremendous fire because i stuck my neck out, that is what i do, i tell people what i really think, i was tell mig tey conservative audience, he will govern as a conservative, and he did. in terms of outsider status, you know it bothers me, people don't remember, term about reagan, only an actor all horrific

things, a lot of came from establishment republicans. at the time. as establishment never liked donald trump here today. the american people seem to respond to people that break that mold, that are disruptive and don't play by the swamp rules. that are forces of nature in their own individual way. advancing the principles that will work in they are implemented. that is always my argument with any liberal. is that, conservatism works. socialism and my last book a wrote a chapter about socialism history of failure, i don't care what name it was give up, the same result every time. unfulfilled promises more poverty, and then a question of
