"fox news primetime" with the ever mention katie pavlich starts right now. >> katie: thank you, brett. that evening, welcome to "fox news primetime," i am katie pavlich, superstar tiger woods hospitalized in los angeles where he is undergoing surgery for multipleg injuries after a surprise rollover crash earlier this morning. the first reaction from president donald trump who has presented tiger woods with the medal of freedom back in 2019, let's check in with trace gallagher who has more information from los angeles, trace. >> good evening to you, just after 7:00 this morning, driving north on hawthorne boulevard

leaving rancho palos verdes making his way towards rolling hills estates. the great he is coming down includes a sweeping left-hand turn then a bending right-hand turn. the l.a. county sheriff confirmed he appeared to be going at a high rate it's deed. >> across the center divider where it went several hundred feet away, that indicates they were going at a relatively greater speed than normal. the downhill slope and it curves, that area has a high frequency of accidents, it is not uncommon. >> firefighters say when they found him 6 minutes later they used tools to pry him from the vehicle. listen to the police, the fire chief. to speak of the information i got back from a personnel and the things that they deal, they were doing a scene assessment and it was brought to my attention that he was conscious, now exactly what was said was unknown. >> but reports say he was able

to call first responders and tell them to call his manager to come and grab his things. and was taken to ucla trauma center where he underwent surgery to repair what is reportedly a compound fracture to his leg and a shattered ankle. the fire chief turned it serious injuries to both legs. tiger also has a contract with discovery network to do behind the scenes videos and teaching lessons and it appeared that he had spent the past few days giving lessons to people like comedian david spade and basketball star dwyane wade. in fact, here is what he posted on instagram yesterday. >> i told you all i was going to do something amazing today, and i got an opportunity i say the goat, he is not comfortable with it, but an opportunity to come back with this guy, and teaching me for something, how good am i? >> good. >> i'm not good. >> we are getting better.

and so everybody be on the lookout, i have the lesson today from who i think is a go to. appreciate it. >> we should note that he was scheduled to work with drew brees and los angeles chargers rookie quarterback justin herbert at the rolling hills country club which is 4 miles from the crash scene. we are also learning that tiger was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash which the sheriff say likely saved his life and initially did not seem concerned about his leg injuries though he was likely in shock, katie. >> katie: all right, trace, thank you so much for joining me by phone, president donald trump, thank you for joining us tonight. >> hi, katie. it's been great to hear from you. you are friends with tiger woods and spent a lot of time with him and when you hear anybody is in an accident it is our horrific thing to witness, but especially someone that you know and we are all happy that he is okay and how did you react when you first heard the news this morning? >> well, i was really surprised. and he is doing so well.

he is getting back in shape and then nothing like this happens. he has had a big problem as you know with his back for a long period of time and it's amazing. he won the masters with a bad back which tells you the level of talent is incredible. and he has been working on that and then has this happened, it's just tragic, tragic. >> katie: mr. president you awarded the medal of freedom to tiger woods in 2019, let's hear what you had to say about him then. and we will get your thoughts on the other side. >> you are in the presence of a true legend, an extraordinary athlete who was transformed golf and achieve new levels of dominance also a great person, just a great guy. tiger introduced countless new people to the sport of golf from every background and from every walk of life, he inspired millions of young americans with his thrilling wire to wire victories. tiger woods is a global symbol

of american excellence, devotion, and drive. >> katie: in that speech you also talked about how he is a comeback kid and how he has been able to overcome a number number of obstacles. maybe we'll see them on the the golf course after this. >> i hope so, he has overcome a lot, but he has had an incredible life and he is going to continue to have an incredible life, but now he will recover from this and it is pretty bad on the legs, i understand. he will figure a way. but he is a wonderful person. aside from everything else, he is a wonderful person. >> katie: you spent time with him on the golf course, tell us about your friendship and how you got to know him. >> i just have over the years, i've known them for a long time, and he was just always great to me and i have always felt the same with him i have always disliked him. you know? we had a good chemistry and always have and i am just a fan of his and as a golfer he is just incredible. him and jack and a few others

are very unique, very unique people. and tiger was really, i mean, he was intent on just getting it back to where it was in the nothing like this happens. and don't forget, he won the masters. and when he won the masters people were not expecting that because he was getting better from the back and the back was a big problem. and then the talent is so great that he was able to win the masters with the back issue is very tender to put it mildly, to put it nicely. but that shows you the level of talent that he has. when you are in a field like that and not 100% paid he is an incredible guy. >> katie: he was the fourth golfer to receive the medal of freedom. i remember that day when you are in the rose garden with him he think his family and talked about the things that he had been able to overcome, tell us about that day and what he had in mind for the next two years and where he wanted to go with the sport.

>> because it was tiger everybody wanted to be there. everybody went crazy. it tiger's tiger and everybody wanted to be there. it was a big event, and he considered it one of the great honors of his life. and he has won all of these majors and the tournaments, i guess he is second in tournaments and in the majors he has 15, that's a lot of majors. and it was an exciting day. it was a beautiful day, it was so good in so many ways and he made a lot of progress from that day and then this has to happen. he is a very respected person. he is respected by the other players, they idolize him. and he will be back. i have no doubt about it. he will be back. >> katie: he definitely has made comebacks before. and you hear a few people talking about them today and you see the mentorship to his kids and working with a number of people who want to learn how to golf of course mr. president and tiger woods are much better than

me. i'm the person telling the people behind me to please go ahead. i'd pick the latest tee time as possible so there are people not waiting behind me. i would love to take a golf lesson from tiger woods. i agree, i think that he certainly is capable of making a comeback and it sounds like based on his history he would be willing to do something like that. >> he knows how to do it and i have no doubt. and he is just a very respected person. and katie, he will be back. i don't know if he will give you a lesson or not, but if he does, you can't get a better one, right? but he will be there, you watch, he will be there. this is very tragic. i got in today and they immediately told me about it and you turn on television and who see this all covering now, there's something unique and special about tiger. >> katie: he did an interview last weekend and was asked about the masters coming up in seven weeks and was asked whether he was going to be there, and of course referring to his back

injury as he did, and he said i hope to god that i'm going to be there. he is working on it with what his physical trainers and doctors were saying to him, and now this has happened. it's devastating for anybody, but especially for an athlete. >> he would have been there too, i bet you he would've been there, when he says that, he means he's going to be there, but now this comes up and that's terrible. >> katie: mr. president, when you were playing golf with him, did he give you a few pointers out there on the green? >> yeah, he always does. i always like it. you can't take tips from tiger, you can't take them from anyone. and he is in a very rare class with jack, you know, jack is 18 majors, and tiger is 15 majors and tiger has i guess 82 wins which is tremendous, tremendous. it so you need to see that many. i guess he is tied with the sam

sneed and that's a long time ago. so one more tournament he would be number one in terms of the tournaments won, so there are a lot of great records he has and some records for scoring and putting in a great putter. i always said, tiger, where you always a great putter? he said it was natural. it's very natural. and a lot of people say that it is natural, but it was always very natural for him. just a great person, i think it will be fine paid he will make sure that he is fine. >> katie: if he is watching tonight, what would you want to say to him? >> all i say is get better and get out there, because we all miss him. we need tiger, you know, when tiger goes on the show, when he is in contention, which is often, the ratings double and triple, and it's very few people that because that kind of a phenomenon. but the ratings are double and triple. i've seen it many times it is

>> katie: dr. anthony fauci the director of the national institute of health, the country's highest paid bureaucrat in a position from which he cannot be fired and just won a new million dollar prize for his work on the coronavirus. when he speaks, people tend to listen. so to hear them double down on lockdowns even as we continue to vaccinate more americans every day is pretty discouraging. >> there are things even if you are vaccinated that you are not going to be able to do in society. for example indoor dining, theaters, places where people congregate. that's the cost of the safety of society. >> katie: florida would like a word. all for the safety of society, i don't know why anyone is surprised at this point after all just a week ago he was telling us we may never be able to hug our grandparents again even if they are vaccinated. listen to the reason why. >> but if grandma is vaccinated

but grandkid isn't? >> then you have to be careful, because grandma could still get virus in her nasopharynx even though the vaccine is preventing her from getting physically ill, she still could have virus in her nasopharynx. >> katie: it's just another example of dr. fauci moving the goalpost to influence the public into complying with whatever guidance du jour he is trying to push. who can forget his ever evolving positions on masks. >> right now people should not be worried -- walking around with a mask. putting a mask on yourself is more to prevent you from infecting someone else. and if every everybody does that, we are each protecting each other. one mask is good, two are better. >> katie: here's the thing you have to remember about dr. fauci, he is a scientist who is more obsessed with bringing the number of cases to zero and finding a way for us to get on

with our lives. that is going to take a long time, but that's fine. the longer the pandemic exists, the more he gets to talk to the media and after all, who will put him on in style magazine when the pandemic is over, joining me now senior political analyst brit hume. what do you have to say about his changing of positions on every single topic we have asked him about? >> he has changed his view a number of times as it has gone on, i rather like dr. fauci and i think he has been a faithful public servant. the problem i think with dr. anthony fauci as it is with our failure as a society to recognize that he is an expert in a narrow field. he is an epidemiologist. it is to fight the disease. he is not an expert in child psychology or education, and not an authority on whether cancer

screenings can be postponed where there are lockdowns that are affecting hospitals, he is not an authority on the u.s. economy and what can be done to it. that some of the else's problem and not his. so in a situation like this when we as a nation turn over all of our policies that this pandemic touches upon or touched upon by it to a person with a very narrow focus, we end up with the is insane lockdowns and we end up with collateral damage of that which he seems unconcerned because it is not in his daily wake, and we end up with the terrible problems we have had in the situations likely see where florida which has been rather relaxed in its intense regulation during this and in a similar situation there are states that have been much more intense in the regulation which raises a serious question about the efficacy and also brings into focus the collateral damage we have seen in so many areas.

>> katie: he may not be an expert in all the medical fields that you mention, but he is a doctor who took a hippocratic oath, and the first thing they declare to do is to cause no harm, and if dr. fauci is not an expert in psychology or the use other areas, then why is he acting like an expert on all of these things that are causing a lot of harm, whether it is students in schools or elderly who are continuing to be isolated, he is an expert on vaccines, and yet he is telling people that they have -- they can't go about their daily lives if they get vaccinated? shouldn't the messaging be the opposite, because there is harm that is done by messaging that even if you get the vaccine, you're still going to have to live your life like we are in a pandemic. >> i hear you, katie. and i don't really disagree except to say that i don't recall him saying much if anything about children's health or children's education or the effect on the economy or any of these things. i don't think he purports to be an expert on those things.

he just seems to disregard them, and i guess to be fair to him, i would only say that that is not his territory. and that's why as a situation like this when they talk about follow the science, the question becomes, well, which science? economics is a science, you know, cardiology is a branch of science, all those things are of science, and if you listen only some scientists instead of looking through a broader lens, you end up with the policy decisions we have made, i think these lockdowns that we have had, katie and the closing of the schools are the worst public policy decisions of my lifetime, and they have been to a great extent because we only followed one kind of expert instead of all of them were all of them should've been consulted and whose views should've been heard. it's beyond what about the idea that there is inconsistency when it comes to a number of things, the virus has developed over the course of a year now we know

more about it, but there has never really been a clear explanation for why these things have changed coming in on one hand you have dr. fauci saying, well, it's common sense to think that taking the vaccine would allow you to get back to your normal life, but you still are to be careful. on the other hand it is common sense to wear two masks and you should do that. so talking out of both sides of his mouth, and governors have been making the decisions about schools and lockdowns based on the things that he is saying. >> that's what i'm saying. to the governor should listen to a lot of voices, and to look, there has been inconsistencies in what he said. you show them in the sound bites you played how his views have shall we say evolved over time, so i think that's it that's -- and i would add, by the way that there been other experts -- scott atlas for example has been full about common sense about this all along and has been absolutely excoriated, he has

been totally treated as a quack and a fraud, and we are now seeing cases plunging. you have not heard dr. fauci explained that, have you? and this is all unexpected. the experts did not predict it. marty makary, an expert that we have on our channel from johns hopkins who is recognizing as epidemiologist thinks this thing will be -- could be back to normal sometime in april, you don't hear that from dr. fauci either. so that's why i say, listen to a broader range of experts. >> katie: two your point about listening to a broader range of experts, when we listen other doctors with different perspectives who are not epidemiologist, we are told that we have to ignore their scientific approach to the pandemic because they are not in the same field as dr. fauci, so maybe we can add to the long list of mistakes that we have made throughout the process. >> and one new drill down on

once .4 million people out of work as many mom-and-pop shops cannot afford their payroll, bun afford the wage hike. >> they should be doing it by paying people low wages, we don't want to low-wage businesses. i think most successful small businesses can pay a fair wage. i love small businesses. i'm all for it, but i don't want small businesses that are underpaying employees. it's fair for people to be making what they are producing and i think that $15 is very reasonable in this country. >> katie: joining me now charle markowitz, i hope i said dear last name correctly, thank you for being here tonight, you are a small business owner in new york and you understand what it means to run a payroll and make money that goes at the door, what is it about these politicians who are completely out of touch with the way that small business runs in the country? >> none of them have been small business owners, and it really

shows. when you had a small business, it was a lot of if you cannot afford a 401(k) for your employees, then maybe you should not exist or if you can afford, this is preobamacare if you can afford to cover health care, maybe that's another reason not to exist. so i've heard all of this before and so of all the other small business owners, and i think what we really have learned over the past year is that small 12 the politicians have no idea what small business owners do or what they have to do to survive, and it's an example of the lease not understanding what a small business owner goes through to survive. >> katie: democrats always claim to be the party of the little guy, the party of the worker, and as we have seen over the past year corporations like amazon and big box stores are the ones who are allowed to stay open during the pandemic wall mom-and-pop stores in a lot of cases are forced to close down, and now the democrats pushing through the $15 minimum wage which will continue to crush

small businesses. >> that's absolutely right, one of the most telling quotes from the pandemic was when andrew cuomo was somebody had asked him about businesses going back to work and he said, oh, those people can go get jobs like amazon or at any of the businesses that are allowed to open at that time. and it was so gross and so telling that the guy who kept collecting a paycheck just did not understand what it was to build a small business and watch it prosper and then to watch it disappear. this has been the most really exposing year where we saw that they just don't get it, and this is another example of that and it is really unfortunate. i think that we don't want to live in amazon land. we don't want the big box stores to be all that we have and yet you don't understand that the policy that you are pushing will lead exactly to that. >> katie: you mention elitism, ro khanna represents silicon valley which is a place where the 15 minimum wage, big

check, and a reflection of the democrats one-size-fits-all, big government socialism policies that lead to the center of the country or places that have more affordable living that can't pay that $15 minimum wage to be forced to do so anyway. >> that's absolutely right, having no idea what goes on and the rest of the country and they don't understand that the real minimum wage is zero when the business cannot afford to pay $15 an hour and that's what is mandated by the law, they are going to close. it's not like they are going to somehow find a bucket of money that they had not previously found, they are going to close their business and put all of these people out of work. that's exactly it. silicon valley does not understand what the rest of the country is going through and neither do major city governments that want to impose their view on what the rest of the country should do. >> katie: i grew up in a family that had a small business and looking back at what we did and the opportunities that i had to learn in that place. i mean, i think that small businesses are great places for

people to start because you can climb more quickly, whereas if you start at the bottom of a corporation it's much more difficult to make it to the top to make more money. you would know that as a business owner. >> absolutely, and we all went successful small businesses to become big businesses. it's not like we don't want them to grow and be able to pay their employees more, but listen, you have to start somewhere and not every business can afford to do with the congressman suggests, obviously he has never owned a small business and that's why you think that this is okay. >> katie: you have owned a small business in new york, new york city for example so we are happy to have you on as the expert on the topic. thank you for coming on. we appreciate it. fox news alert just an update on tiger woods condition, chief breaking news correspondent trace gallagher has all the details. >> a couple of breaking news things in the crash, the "l.a. times" is reporting that tiger woods has two compound fractures and a shattered ankle. it's unclear if both compound fractures might be on the same leg or separate legs if you

don't know it's normally defined as breaking a bone and the bone sometimes piercing the skin. the firefighters on the scene as you look at the crash scene said that at the time of the crash when they pulled him out, he did not seem all that concerned about his injuries, although they say that he was likely in shock. we should also know that he was wearing a seat belt and the sheriff in l.a. county said that that likely saved his life, because he may have rolled over and over over the course of about 500 feet, as you say kind of in between telephone poles and missing oncoming traffic coming from the other direction, and it did appear that the sheriff said that tiger woods was going at a high rate of speed before he lost control, struck the median, and then he began rolling. again, tiger woods is at ucla harvard medical center, and underwent surgery on both legs, still waiting for an update on his current condition. >> katie: trace, thank you.

♪ ♪ >> katie: well, legal gun sales are skyrocketing and joe biden wants that to be a reason to strip away your second amendment. but what biden and the media failed to mention is the people buying those guns are the "evil racist white man" he warned us about. in 2020, 40% of buyers were women, 58% more black americans fought guns on the year before. but the left continues their war on illegal guns, which seems toe sales. january 2021 saw a record high number. joining me now is dana loesch, nationally syndicated radio host and author. dana, what is your response to the white house looking at legal gun sales at record numbers and saying "oh, we have to do something about that?"

>> yeah, no, and katie it is so good to be with you and i'm glad you are talking about this, i have written about this quite extensively. it does not make sense that the white house would want to limit individuals exercising their second amendment right. always during an election year, we know we see firearm sales increase, but this was a very different election year, and we not only had an election but also widespread unrest, and then you had a party, the president of the united states and vice president saying they were going to defund police, so that encouraged people to come out. when people were talking to their gun stores and discussing with people why they want to purchase firearms, it was self-defense, wanted to protect themselves in case police or first responders couldn't do it for them in the event of widespread unrest. and women are absolutely driving this, followed by black americans, minorities in general, really with women, leading the drive purchasing firearms. 16.7 million firearms were purchased during the first six months of 2020, which set an

all-time record, but it's not the stereotypical gun. the face of gun ownership has changed. it is female. it is younger. it is black. it is hispanic. it is gay. it is incredibly diverse. it is a common ground of issues these individuals come together on when they want to be able to exercise their right of self-defense, protect themselves and their families, katie, we've seen so many in these cities -- people just want to make sure they are safe. they want to make sure their kids and loved ones are safe. >> katie: i went to the range last weekend and i was a minority at that range, so i think people in the biden administration's, people on the left need to get out a little more and see who is going to the range instead of stereotyping. you mention the kind of people who are buying firearms, last week and 386 mothers in akron, ohio, got their concealed carry permits. up by 34% over the previous year.

campaign. >> yeah, no, that is a great point, katie. they are not stopping at all. the bloomberg funded groups just met with joe biden and his advisors last week to discuss what they could get on. i think they realize they are not going to be able to fulfill every promise made because gun control is at the bottom of list of priorities for voters. clearly, this is evident by the number of people purchasing firearms, but they don't have the votes. they don't have the votes in the senate. when they were trying to get that past, they only got 53-54 votes. they don't have the momentum they are at all, and he's going to have to do a lot of executive orders. i look for him to try to do something about -- may be redefined a firearm is, going back and forth with the atf. we will see. i think it's going to be a lot of his pen doing the work. >> katie: well, maybe some work over and the department of justice with merrick garland if he gets confirmed based on his
