cuomo to testify on covid-19 deaths in nursing homes in the state. i exclusively the voter from republicans led by james come er to carolyn maloney urging her to compel his testimony and demanding to, quote, hear the truth under oath directly from governor cuomo. republicans are also requesting subpoenas for documents, information and communication related to new york's nursing home policy and a full investigation into cuomo's actions, this after cuomo last year directed new york nursing homes to accept patients who had or were suspected of having covid-19, the move create an onslaught of cases resulting in thousands of deaths among new york's most vulnerable population but cuomo has defended the policy saying at the time it was in line with guidance from the trump administration but a cuomo spokesman is slamming the request from republicans is just, quote, empty political theater saying cuomo is focused on managing the coronavirus crisis and won't let these, quote, antics detract from that work.

it is unclear how chairwoman maloney will handle the request from republicans. her office did not respond to fox news's request for comment. jillian: let's bring in the house oversight committee member leading the letter. thank you for joining us. i know you had that rally yesterday and you've been outspoken about this for almost a year now. you have been passionate about it, you want answers as do many others. do you finally feel your voices being heard? >> i do. it has taken 10 months but better late than never. yesterday was a good day. there was a lot of press at that event. i credit ron kim for bring bringing the press. fox news has been covering this, the new york post. there have been some journalist in albany, new york but this has been relatively uncovered and the governor has been revered

for the last year. todd: will this request you have for subpoenas of governor cuomo be granted? >> who knows? maloney has not been good at granting our requests but this is the job of the oversight committee but nancy pelosi created a coronavirus. mismanagement, waste, fraud and abuse. i'm sure she was hoping that would involve the trump administration but with the select committee finding the most concerning mismanagement and form of abuse is at the hands of governor cuomo with the nursing home policy. we want answers in the victims want answers. jillian: you hear congressman comeare, how much does this help your effort to have him and other supporting you and trying to get these answers, trying to get them under oath as best you can? >> anyone trying to spread the

message and help our families is another win for us. it has to resonate at home. people have to understand the story. it's not hard to understand it. we had elderly infected by the virus because our governor at 9000 nursing patients in a nursing home, not hard to understand at all. todd: it isn't rocket science, we were told to stay home, they did exactly the opposite. how does this sad saga end? >> the select committee will not let up on this. steve scalise and jim jordan had primarily been highlighting this, messaging this and represent not just the families of the victims but the taxpayers and the people of new york, we are not going to let up on it. maloney will cave under pressure.

she represents new york and the new york legislators, democrat and republican including ocasio cortez called on the committee to subpoena cuomo, i think cuomo has a lot of questions to answer in the house oversight committee and covid-19 select committee won't let up on this. jillian: what would you say to people who don't support this letter demanding the subpoena? >> reporter: this is not about politics. it never has been. it is not about republican and democrat. it is about what is right and what is wrong and to ensure that this kind of thing never happens to another family again. people need to support this. todd: same question i asked the congressman. how does the sad saga ultimately end? >> we don't have our loved ones back. >> we will continue pressing on this and democrats are good at

can you explain the difference? >> the difference is obvious. it is politics, that is the difference and on the one hand the biden administration, biden was with obama in the administration that built those cages and that was frustrating at the time during the trump administration to see the headlines and all the hype and media hysteria across the board over the cages and it was disappointing because i was speaking to agents who were telling me they were using the same facilities they were using under biden and obama and that is the basic facts, simple fact that isn't difficult to get right and there was no reason for another than politics and that set the tone for the rest of the trump administration and they have information dominance and can make whatever they want stick it is not true.

differently and you don't have to expose your self to all the clips that expose the double standard or go back in time and don't have to be honest with your self and so many people lack moral courage and so many people are not honest with themselves and are happy to go along with it so it really depends on your perspective but at the same time millions of people do see through it. millions of people who didn't want to speak up at the time this was happening under trump are willing to speak up now because they have seen this happen over and over again and what they realize is you are now looking at domestic terrorist legislation before congress that is going to use the full force of the law and the justice department against people who don't agree with those making the rules right now, those in power and that has added more to that, the bigger infrastructure

of action how conservatives and republicans can get this country back together. the first month 1/2 or so of the biden administration has been just reprehensible. when you look at the policies passed, the attack on religious freedoms, the jobs that are being destroyed right now because of this administration's policies, really it is concerning. we knew it would be a push, a hard push to the left but no one imagined policies being put in place such as these. i mean i saw yesterday that the task force that are actually going against that sex trafficking that president put together is now being destroyed. i mean so this is just a complete abomination. i think it should be a concern to all americans, not just americans on the right but anyone with common sense, anyone with faith, anyone who puts their spirituality first and families across this nation should be concerned with these

policies. jillian: a few questions here. can you give us a little preview what you can expect to hear from you? what do you think we'll hear from the former president and how do you think he will be received? >> i'm excited. i will talk a lot about family, getting back to core principles and conservative sal use. i was so concerned as i walk into the communities that i serve. seeing kids from the public school systems in our nation. i think we have a lot to fix. things are not going well. you hear the political talk is all about skin color and race and division. i'm going to hopefully talk about unity bringing us together as a nation. i think president trump will finally come out and talk to conservatives and gives us a little bit of hope. i think right now folks just need some encouragement. i think the president will do a lot of i told you so. because you see they're repealing many of his policies.

actually the policies that have been good for all americans are being repealed right now. i think president trump will discuss that. hopefully he will give us a little bit of his thoughts on what is coming up in 2022. we have so many important races across the country that will be happening. it will be grat to get the president's perspective on that. see who he is supporting. let's all as conservatives come together with a strong plan to take it country back. todd: you mentioned skin color in your answer. former president obama says reparations are needed but politics of white resistance made it a nonstarter. take a listen. >> the politics of white resistance and resentiment made the prospect of actually proposing any kind of coherent meaningful reparations program struck me as not only a

nonstarter but potentially counterproductive. todd: 45 seconds for your answer. that seemed like a pretty passive aggressive passing of the buck to me. what do you think? >> no doubt. he is just trying to appease right now. really sad to see when you talk about reparations, you're looking at a nation where we're spending 25,000-dollar per kid in the inner-city schools where many black kids can't read and write. many plaque kids don't have fathers in their homes. so many issues with nothing to do with reparations. there is enough money in the system right now where everybody is getting reparations it is how it is being spent. we need to get back to core issues. sad to see that. the african-american leader of this nation, barack obama is still making these type of excuses but hasn't spoke about one single issue that is really causing underserved communities of color around the country to
