several million dollars of hotel rooms to house people across border states and hundreds of children remain in border patrol facilities for several days longer than what's normally allowed. president biden told reporters at some point he will go to the border. officials from border states are demanding the white house do more than that. here is arizona republican governor doug doocy. >> he certainly can communicate more often, more clearly and he should be talking to president overdor. he's got a big microphone. he needs to use it appropriately. >> reporter: over the weekend the homeland security secretary defended the poll of sis, he said the border is secure and tried to shift blame to former president trump. >> the prior administration dismantled the orderly and safe way that these children could make their claims. we are rebuilding that process. it takes time because the entire system was dismantled. >> reporter: former president trump had a statement of his own

last night, saying they are in way over their heads and taking on water fast. the only way to end the biden border crisis is for them to admit their total failure and adopt profoundly effective proven trump policies. reporters are demanding more access to border facilities to see firsthand what's going on. the administration says it's going to release its own footage soon and later this week a group of senators will visit the border to get a briefing on what's going on in the situation but if you want to know what's happening you can probably watch griff jenkins who has been on the border it feels like for several months but for the last few days he's had a chance to see firsthand what's happening on. we'll be hearing more from griff a little later on this morning. a lot of people are he focusing on what griff has been talking about all along, the surge of migrants coming into the u.s. carley: i believe you called him our resident early riser. >> reporter: i have other names for him. he's a great guy. jillian: he's the hardest working man i know. mark, you are as west thank you for joining us.

carley: the lack of transparency continues to be a major problem as we you await the promised footage from inside migrant facilities. jillian: lawrence jones says lack of access isn't surprising under president biden but says it's time the media demands some answers. >> this is typical joe biden politics right now. we saw this on the campaign trail, they decided they were going to keep him in a bunker most of the time and not allow us to ask tough questions on the campaign trail. back then, the media gave him a pass. now that he's in office, now he's accountable to the american public and we need to know what's happening. they try to manage this by showing us what they want us to see. it was very frustrating hearing the secretary say that the border is secure and it's closed. i mean, are you kidding me? to see the delusional messaging coming out of the white house when you have wall to wall coverage not just on fox news,

us live with the chaos at the beach, good morning, ashley. >> reporter: good morning, girls. things certainly looked more like a battle on ocean avenue with police and even s.w.a.t. teams trying to clear the streets. >> there is a curfew in effect from 8:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m. you are commanded to immediately and peacefully disburse. >> reporter: police tried to corral the crowds in what will likely be a common occurrence for the next few weeks or so. city officials voted to extend curfews and restrictions until april 12th. the spring breakers have caused havoc with fifth fights breaking out and-fist fights breaking out and property being destroyed, like this car that people were dancing on. people were forced to use pepper pellets to break up crowds over the weekend. in new york city, they are

battling new virus variants. the new strains do pose huge questions but should not cause a fourth wave. listen. >> more than 50% of the infections in new york we know are with variants. what we don't understand is whether or not people are reinfected with it and whether or not people who have been vaccinated with getting infected with it. i don't think we'll have a fourth wave. i think the fact we have so much prior infection, we're talking about some form of protective immunity in 55% of the population. >> reporter: despite the new threats, the arkansas governor said he will lift the state's mask mandate at the end of the month. >> people understand the importance of a mask and i expect even though we take the mask mandate away that people will continue to use the masks and you cannot socially distance. common sense is going to replace mandates. >> reporter: at least six states have lifted their mask mandates.

thank you for being here. let's pull up here this information from the dea drug seizures in the el paso division. these are for fiscal years. as you can see, so far for fiscal year 2021, which started in october, we had almost at the same amount for the total for the fiscal year of 2020. do you see these cartels getting more brazen and how far do you think this could go? >> absolutely, the situation with the mexican cartels is definitely out of control and everybody in the united states needs to be concerned and they need to realize that all these drugs that you're seeing with the statistics right now were the drugs that were actually seized. imagine how much drugs actually made it across. everyone in america should be extremely concerned especially with the influx of synthetic drugs. that's the biggest problem our country is facing right now.

the cartels are out of control. they need to be held accountable by the mexican government and so far that's not what's happening. carley: and is it true that most of these drugs come into the u.s. through commercialized cargo? so once it crosses the border in the back of a truck it could be in cities across the country in a matter of hours. so how do you stop this? >> that's absolutely true. in a matter of hours, the drugs are hitting the streets. we have our people dying of overdoses every day. right now, we're pushing about 100,000 people dying of drug overdoses every single year. how do you stop it? i can tell you, this is how you stop it, is our agents working the southwest border, dea agents, customs, border patrol, they are extremely overwhelmed, they're overworked. they need more resources, they need more man power and they need it now. they also need more technology. i think that's how you begin to

stop it. you need to treat it as what it is. it's a crisis. and so far, that's not what's happening. i'm talking to agents every day and they are overworked. they're tired. and they're not getting the support that they need. jillian: in your conversations with those agents you talk to, what is their biggest fear with this situation and what is yours? >> my biggest fear with this situation is the situation is really bad right now. it's a crisis. if we don't do something to stop it immediately, it's only going to get worse. and we're going to have more people here in our country dying and the other thing too is you have these cell groups, cartel cell groups operateing in our country. we can expect to see more of those if we don't get a handle on this situation. carley: it's a scary situation. thank you for shedding light on it. we appreciate it. >> thank you very much. jillian: it is 18 minutes after the hour. a peaceful protest in the u.k. turns violent. the new proposal to give police

carley: welcome back. at least 20 officers are hurt, two seriously, after protests against police bill turned violent in the u.k. thousands gathered in bristol, england, to oppose a reform that would give police power to curb street protests. the mob set two police vehicles on fire. some officers broke away with a broken arm, broken ribs and a collapsed lung. police blaming the violence on a, quote, minority of demonstrators.

today, secretary of state antonyblinken heads to europe fr talks with nato allies on growing threats the u.s. faces. jillian: trey yingst joins us live from overseas with the latest on the foreign policy push. >> reporter: u.s. secretary of state antony blinken is traveling to brussels today for eu and nato meetings. america's top diplomat will discuss threats from china and russia as well as topics including climate change, cyber security and afghanistan. the state department said, quote, the meetings in brussels reaffirm the united states' commitment to our allies and european partners on our shared agenda. this comes after a trip last week to japan and south korea and a tense meeting on thursday with chinese officials in alaska, part of a foreign policy push by the biden administration that saw lloyd austin traveling to afghanistan yesterday for a surprise visit. his trip took place amid ongoing peace efforts between the

reporters from actually going inside these border facilities to see what's going on. they've also reportedly gagged border patrol officials, pressuring them not to talk to the media. they appear to be slow-rolling the actual numbers. this is very concerning. the biden administration is not following through on its transparency. biden of course is supposed to be holding a press conference this week. i do expect him to be asked tough questions about what's happening at the u.s. border. the number one concern for all americans should be what type of protocols they have in place regarding covid-19 infections. we know people are coming across the border not just from mexico but brazil and other countries. this makes americans vulnerable to more covid infections and potentially new strains. carley: that's so true. getting back to the situation

where journalists aren't allowed to cover the border right now, i have get to a tweet from a photographer, he tweeted i respectfully ask u.s. customs and border protection to stop blocking media access to border operations, i have photographed cbp under bush, obama and trump but now zero access is granted to media. those who might say cut them some slack, they're dealing with a situation. i say showing the u.s. response to the immigrant surge is the media's role. i'd like you to react to that, how important it is to see footage taken from photographers firsthand accounts, rather than something that's filtered through the administration. >> again, filtering through the administration is something that we would hear the ccp doing, that should not be happening inside the u.s. government. of course, we should have transparency here and you have to have a lot of sympathy for

the he local municipalities on the ground who are dealing with this crisis in their backyards. they need to know what exactly is going on in their towns, in their cities, and the biden administration is reportedly barring even local journalists from reporting on these -- being able to see the situation for themselves, for their reports. this is very problematic. again, it raises concerns about what type of covid-19 protocols are in place and it's completely hypocritical, based on what president joe biden campaigned on which was transparency. carley: president biden does get relatively friendly treatment by the media. how do you expect this press conference to go? do you think he will be held accountable for what's going on at the border right now? >> i do think he's going to be asked tough questions about what's going on at the border because of the lack of transparency, because of his barring of journalists inside these facilities. the question is whether there

will be follow-through, whether reporters will challenge him or accept the initial responses and then move on. we know the media works overtime to defend the biden administration but the biden administration is caught between a rock and a hard place when it comes to the handling of the border. they can't appease any side here. the fact of the matter is, this is a historic surge and the biden administration was unprepared and directly responsible for this surge through both his rhetoric and his very rapid policy changes that he instituted without taking measures to prepare for the surge that he was warned about from all avenues. carley: we'll be watching. the press conference is set to take place on thursday. kelsey, thank you so much for joining us. we appreciate it. >> thank you. jillian: now you to this unbelievable story, a father facing child cruelty charges after he took his 2-year-old

♪ ♪ jillian: welcome back with the nearly $2 trillion relief bill passed the democrats have already declared next big project infrastructure. carley: with announcement of a plan that could cost another $2 trillion, republicans are pushing back. joining us with his take house committee on transportation and infrastructure member congressman rodney davis. good morning, sir. >> and good morning, jillian and carley. carley: what do you think is going to happen with this infrastructure plan? we're hearing that the biden administration and democrats want to include some green energy initiatives in it which i'm sure republicans are going to be pretty upset about.

>> yeah. it's disappointing. as a matter of fact, ranking member sam graves and a group of us from the transportation infrastructure committee went to the white house a few weeks ago and we talked to the president, vice president harris, secretary buttigieg and some of our democratic colleagues asking them to please do not propose a $2 trillion climate plan and try to disguise it as an fracture bill it looks like that's what they're trying to do. jillian: just had nearly $2 trillion covid bill passed and talking about this other 2 trillion. where is this money coming from. >> well, the democrats right now are looking at opening up the income tax code. they want to raise taxes on many americans, almost every american would be affected by this to pay for infrastructure injustments. this shows where they're going. going to use the reconciliation process make this completely partisan, which is what we asked the president and his team not to do when we were in the

meeting. when you look at this package, the income tax increases will go to pay for the unheard of costs to implement their far left green energy policies. carley: what do you think a bipartisan infrastructure package would look like. do you think it would be maybe democrats get a little bit of climate change but could there be funding for a border wall and could there be package. >> last thing democrats are going to talk about when it documents infrastructure is border package and border security wall which is terrible right now. look at the border crisis this administration through its policies have caused. i was able to finish the construction of pieces that are almost connected right now. it's that political on our southern border. so, when we look ahead, if we could come to an agreement in a bipartisan package, it would to be rebuild our crumbling roads and bridges, and that would be it. jillian: yeah. i would highly doubt that they would approve any mope for a border wall. so let's talk about

flip-flopping here on the issue of the filibuster. in fact, let's go ahead and take a look at flashbacks here. >> the point is we still left the 60 votes in place for the supreme court. >> would you bring it back? >> and mitch mcconnell changed that i would prefer to bring it back. >> without the 60 vote threshold for legislation the senate becomes majority institution like the house much more subject to the whims of electoral change. jillian: keep going in september of 2020 senator dianne feinstein said quote i think the filibuster serves a purpose. it's not often used often less used now than when i first came and part of the senate that differentiate itself. fast forward to friday when she says quote ideally the senate can reach bipartisan agreement if that proves impossible and republicans continue to abuse the filibuster by requiring votes, i'm open to changing the way the senate filibuster rules are used. what is your reaction to all of this. >> i'm frankly not surprised.

filibuster has frustrated all of us at times. in the end our forefathers they developed a senate to be the dlitional body. i truly believe the democrats if they saw when they got rid of the filibuster for judicial appointees, when they were in charge last, that they are more than willing to sacrifice what the senate is all about and our history in governing through the senate to get their political wishes pushed through. carley: that is so true. of course you do away with that 60 vote threshold democrats will have a very easy time passing almost anything that they want. congressman davis, thank you so much for joining us. jillian: thank you. >> thank you. jillian: to the best story of the day, a florida deputy caught on camera helping a young man with his tie before an interview. watch this. >> the cop is helping a young kid tie a tie. that is cool. that's cute. jillian: that is cute. a store clerk in seminole county recorded this video.
