here with the latest from the scene is our own alicia acuna. alicia, terrible what we're hearing. you just had a press conference as well you were attending. >> yes, good evening, sean. the boulder police commander here telling us that yes, in fact they did lose one of their own tonight. one of their officers killed in the line of duty while responding to the shooting at the king sooper here in boulder. initially they said multiple fatalities. right now they're having conversations with the family members killed in this grocery store this afternoon. so therefore they won't release anymore information including how many people that they believe died in the store because right now they're processing the crime scene. as the commander here put it, they're still making new discoveries.

as well. we've covered this for years. last year, the year before that. spring break gets out of control in allar of these major cities. the thing that i would caution people, seems like this story is taking a turn. this is become an anti florida story. a lot of people already don't like america's governor, ron desantis opening it up. now they're blaming florida for allowing this to happen when he's just letting people choose their own destiny. where were they years ago? they covered this every year. miami, deltona beach. this is no different than any other spring break if you ask me. >> sean: matt, look, i kind of understand kids, the situation they're in. i mean, it's been rough for a lot of kids. if they're in school, covid, virtual classes. they want to get together and they miss out on important year of their life. i can get it.

i understand that. butn on the other hand, what we're witnessing down here is way out of control. your thoughts. it's your home state. >> my son is a college freshman. he had no real graduation, no prom. i struggled with whether or not to allow him to enjoy spring break in panama city beach. i allowed him to have an abbreviated one. i didn't have a good night's rest until i knew he was back at school. let me share a message on behalf of my florida man and woman. if you want to come to enjoy freedom, to goia to a restauran, to go to a beach, fishing, get weird, not too weird, as we say in the deep south, ya'll come. if you want to do damage -- >> sean: what does that mean? >> that means florida man, florida woman, body paint here and there. throw an some beads. don't hurt anybody. in the state of florida, if you're going to cause harm toa another individual, we have laws that protect law-abiding citizens.

behind me. we want to give you a live view of what this is representing. there's a procession underway for the fallen officer that lost his or her life in the line of duty while trying to protect others at the king soopers earlier this afternoon. so we know the boulder police department right now is suffering and also continuing to investigate. they're also continuing to reach out to families tonight, reaching out to those to let them know that they in fact have lost someone, someone that just went to the grocery store that was working at a grocery store or happened to be in the parking lot. right now they don't have an official count of how many people were killed inside of that store today. the police commander said in a news conference not long ago, he said as they're working the crime scene, they're making new discoveries, a heart breaking thing to hear.

what we know from what witnesses have said is that a man, a gunman, walked in no the king soopers grocery store before 3:00 colorado time and opened fire. some witnesses said that he was wearing some sort of tactical gear, that he may have been carrying automatic weapon. these are details that the boulder police department right now says they cannot comment on. they're at the very beginning stages of this investigation, sean. as you know, it's got to be incredibly difficult for them right now that carry on this investigation with the professionalism that they have while they're morning the loss of one of their honey, sean. >> sean: makes it so much harder. alicia, we'll continue to monitor this story all throughout the night here on fox news. obviously very scary, horrific shooting in boulder. here now with reaction, fox news contributor, dan bongino. we're often reminded and then forget. remember, what do we want? dead cops.

what do we want them now? pigs in a blanket. fry them like bacon. bottles, rocks, brings, molotov cocktails. they're not riots. over 2,500 cops injured but these are the cops that put themselves in harms way and we lost one tonight. >> yeah, don't forget with the defund the police crowd. that wasn't a social worker that walked in there. if those stories are accurate and this person walked in with tactical gear and a semiautomatic weapon or rifle, whatever it may have been and i don't know that, i'm just hearing it from alicia here, but if those details are accurate, there's not a social worker on planet earth that would be dumb enough to walk into that scenario. it's brave police officers that do that. listen, we're limited on details here. but obviously motive, what were they thing? was it terrorism, was it a personal beef?

what was it? that is the first step. you're right. you have someone's family now that will have an empty seat at a dinner table forever and every single holiday, they have to look at that empty seat and think, we never got another day with this person because some maniac decided to kill him. that's why i have such respect for what these guys do. remember this one thing. every time i heard gun shots as a police officer, everybody is running away. this way. gun shots there. everybody goes this way. it's the cops going this way. towards the gun shots. the only ones, by the way. no one should forget that. >> sean: what happened on that ball field? can you imagine the two cops,

think when steve scalise was shot on that ball field. steve scalise literally -- two capitol police officers now walking in an open field against a rifle. okay. you and i are both trained in the use of firearms. i've been a marksman since i was a kid going against a rifle when a guy is camouflaged, hidden. you're in the open field. the odds are 99.9% the rifleca will win that -- under that scenario. they did it anyway i or the cops on 9-11 and the firemen and the paramedics and every other first responder. everybody else is racing to get the hell out of there. they're going up in the other direction. now we're going to defund the police, disparage the police, quiet all summer long as they're hit with rocks, bricks and molotov cocktails and some dead as a result.d >> yeah. sean, listen, none of them are getting rich all of this.

they're not doing it for the fame, the notoriety and the basket of riches that they get at the end of the day. you know, i never get to say this on your show. one of the greatest lines that i heard from the spouse of a police officer, the greatest sound in the world is the sound of velcro at night. the body armor coming off. it makes a loud sound. you know they're home safely. someone won't hear that sound for this officer. it's a shame. >> look what they're thing with de blasio. letting cops getting doused with water. letting the assault of cops by people responsible. we have videotapes of police cars getting destroyed. last word. >> sean, i'm telling you, it's the down fall of the democratic party if they don't separate themselves from this anti-police lunacy.d.d.
