by a sitting u.s. president. for more than an hour joe biden stood in front of the world and struggled to get words out. at times he seemed lost and confused and frequently became agitated despite cheat sheets in front of him. ari fleischer said it was bewildering to see biden read answers from a script. he had a large piece of paper with reporters with pictures preranked. peter doocy did not make that list. taking tough questions for fox news is a big no-no for a guy who can barely complete a co herrent thought. today is here how jen psaki circled back to the issue. >> we noticed any time the president has an event where he is given a list of reporters to call on, fox is the only member

briefings. what i find interesting about these briefings, and joe mentioned it yesterday, the media becomes adversarial when it's a republican and raise questions in the form of propaganda when it's a democrat. you are such a wonderful guy. that's why people are coming here? was that a question. >> it was soft ball with joe biden and spit ball with donald trump. a reporter is supposed to be fair and neutral. let's do an experiment. let's say that donald trump is still president, mitch mcconnell was the majority leader of the senate and republicans controlled the house. and mitch mcconnell said we will abolish the filibuster. i think it's racist. it interferes with us getting our republican agenda through. we are pro-life.

we will change america. do you think the press would be cheerleading him on for getting rid of the filibuster. they would have said you are stomping on minority rights. the press would have been offended. it would have shown in every question they asked. here roll over and make your case. we will put the ball on. >> dan: you were on fire and did a great job. you called it a disgrace. i agree with you. one of the things i found offensive about the media in the new biden era, are are the fact checkers. joe, if donald trump said i had a diet coke for lunch. we are fact checking. it was diet pepsi. where are the fact checkers now. they disappeared.

>> after every trump appearance the cnn fact checker would be at the ready. you could find snowden before you could find cnn fact checkers at this point. the press's questions were meek and vague. the president had to look at a list of reporters with their photos next to it, in order who to call on. the leader of the free world is afraid to call on fox news reporters who ask tough questions. president xi and putin and china and russia are paying attention. who are we dealing with? he is afraid of his own press corp. we can do whatever we want now. how could he stand up to us. and chuck said there are no negative questions on covid. they only ask questions when it's challenging.

i have a question on covid. i am the parent of a 5 and 7-year-old. mr. president you said you would reopen schools and listen to the science and the data. your own cdc director says it's safe to reopen now. what do you say to parents? you assigned your vice-president kamala harris to pick the crisis at the border that you won't call a crisis. yet she compared i.c.e. to the kkk, and asked when a reporter asked when you are going to visit the border? those are questions that could have been asked. instead we saw cotton candy

questions. it was the grapefruit league. grapefruit is big as softballs but softer. they had 9 weeks to prepare for this. this is what we got yesterday. it was a disgrace. that's what i called it yesterday. >> dan: i see your energy hasn't dissipated from yesterday. >> [laughing]. that and 5 hour energy not a good combination. >> dan: ari fleischer, one thing i find offensive about the media's coverage is the lack of the follow-up. with the trump administration everything was a follow-up if it wasn't an interruption first. they don't follow-up. what he said about the trump tax cuts were off. but you get a question and everybody moves on. >> here's the core problem, the

white house press corp, they line up in agreement with the democratic policy agenda. when it comes to spending increases, the press corp is for it and against tax cuts. when it comes to what donald trump did on the border the press thought it was wrong. what joe biden is doing they think is right. they will tell you they are neutral and don't have opinions. they have opinions. when a president is a republican or donald trump before the press, the press is fast to interrupt and challenge and ask the follow-ups. did anybody follow-up with joe biden when he said he said it was racist. was barack obama a racist when he filibustered? they are just content to roll along.

they are not offended by joe biden's policies. they were offended by trump policies and republican policies and conservative policy. it's who they are. it's the original sin about who goes into journalism in the first place. that's why i would so much rather be a democrat dealing with the press any day than a republican. they back you on policy and roll over on all of the rest. >> dan: yes. sad to see. joe, have some tea and get some rest. ari, thank you both. let's turn to biden's crisis on the southern border. last night senator ted cruz lead a delegation to the rio grande in texas where they encountered cartel members. watch this. >> we are on the ng of the river. -- edge of the river. the other side of the river is

mexico. we have seen cartel members human traffickers yelling and taunting the border patrol because they know under the current policy of the biden administration they can flood over. they get $5,000 a person to smuggle them into this country and the biden administration releases them. >> dan: according to susan collins the mexican cartels are controling who comes across the border and drug smuggling are in control. over-crowded border stations are packed with men, women and children. sarah carter is live in texas. >> hi, i am here in roma, texas.

behind me there is a makeshift processing center because so many people have been flooding through this small border town. i want to show you something. within less than 5 minutes i picked up all of these arm bands. they are given to the migrants crossing illegally by the drug cartels. they say you got here. these are issued by human trafficking organizations and they tag them like cattle and they charge them various prices. according to the texas department of public safety and the border patrol, i spent sometime with the tdepartment of public safety through governor abbott is filling in the gasps for the border patrol on land,

sea and air -- caps. look at this. what is the national security implications of these cartels in mexico? >> right now we have an increase in criminal activities. they are expoiting the current situation. >> you are dealing with an increase in young women and children. it has to be a challenge. >> it's very challenging. the cartel members don't like the interception of deterring what they are trying to bring across, narcotics or migrants. that's money lost on their end. >> right here is where they cross. most of the people. >> you can see down below where

people were camped out. you see something going on like a cartel fight. do you see anything unusual? >> we have had them point guns at us. we just have to move out of the area. >> what about the ones that don't [inaudible]? >> we normally don't patrol this area. there are a bunch of people over here. and more people down here. those are the ones you want to catch see whying they are trying to get away. -- see why. our manpower is stretched thin. >> as i am talking to you right now, i can hear people behind me in the brush coming through. it's incredible. you hear the dogs barking and the people moving.

seen. this was a sign put down by the federal government to let illegal immigrants know where to turn themselves in. >> this is a man made disaster and joe biden made this disaster. >> dan, that night, we could hear the smugglers yelling at us. taunting us. they were screaming and laughing and making fun. they thought it was probably just border patrol and they were dumping people off on to the banks. children as young as 3 years old. think about that. little children in the middle of the night in some of the most dangerous situations and terrain. people will be crossing in a little bit. the smugglers and the drug cartels are moving drugs and other contraband on other areas of the border. we will be back monday night with a full package. we will work through the weekend. neighbors came out to talk to me.

here we have never seen numbers like this crossing in this season in a surge ever. i they are trying you remember -- they are lying. >> the view played of kamala harris a couple of years ago. there is a huge difference. at the peak of the obama administration there are 6 or 7 times i hear fluctuations but it's way more than at the peak of the obama administration and we are not even into the major crossing time which is towards the end of spring when border patrol says they see the most people crossing. we are hearing from democrat mayors on border towns. they were critical of trump and celebrated joe biden when he was elected into office. now you see mayors, democrat

mayors saying wait a minute you are overloading us. we don't have the budget to handle what these policies have done. we are seeing the same lack of resource we saw but 6 to 7 times worse crisis. it's a crisis. the associated is telling journalists only quote crisis if it's someone you are quoting. the longer they refuse to accurately report the worse it gets and the more suspicious they make the public. >> dan: i agree. leslie, this is obviously a crisis. everybody can see what is happening on camera. if you don't acknowledge a crisis it seems to me you are know interested in solving it. do you agree or disagree this is a crisis? >> i said all along it's a crisis. it's not what you call it. it's what you do about it. look at numbers.

i want to talk about the media. before this segment and other shows that i did today, when you look at the push back and even cnn fact checked joe biden when said he was wrong about unaccompanied minors and said that the minors and immigrant families were being turned around at a higher rate. it's 41%. overall 70% are being turned away. it's not democrat or republican. they have to work together. one problem is asylum. you have to be in the united states to apply for asylum. that could be changed not by the president of the united states. it has to be done by the congressional body. politicizing this is beneficial for the republicans. but at the end of the day it doesn't solve the immigration

problem which needs a multi-facetted legislative approach. asylum is just one of the many issues. there is a backlog. why are these people leaving? and more. with regard to the drug cartel, if you go online and do all of the research and you look at the numbers for 17 years we have dealt with drug cartels and crossing is highest in january, february and march even at the checkpoints. >> dan: i get that. facts and data matter. you believe in numbers, right? i have the numbers right here. in the last season, 66,000 the peak during the season of the trump administration. we now have had 100,000 under biden. it's not even close. we have not had a number like that in the last 10 years.

if facts and data matter by what metric is this not an exploding crisis? >> i understand the arguments that some make. there are more variables that go into this. it intimates that the united states has to solve the economic crisis of every other country. not every other country openss its borders to let everyone in. we choose to be more deliberate about the people coming in. republicans and democrats have kicked the can down the road. the problem is the way the press is covering. i remember back in 2017 there

were articles talking about the cost of keeping kids in cages. that was one of the phrases used. nobody is talking about that now. you don't see any articles in the press about that. you don't see democrats down in the border crying in parking lots in front of chain link fences. the media coverage is different and that's driving this. that's why people are suspicious of the media. it occurrence our national security and our residents that live at the border and our tax dollars too. >> dan: yes, leslie, i am just out of time. great debate. thanks, i appreciate it. coming up is nancy pelosi trying to steal a house seat from the gop? of course. a senator will be here and another day and another scandal for zero experience hunter.

to do with it this? it joe biden didn't have secret service protection at the time but they tried to pull the gun records from the gun store. luckily the gun store owner does not give them those records. we should not make had harder for law-abiding citizens. stop people who break the law from getting away with it scot-free. >> dan: the irony here is so thick. charlie, if this was a story -- forget about don junior. if this was about don junior's cousin's friend's neighbor and don had a hot dog at his house this would be a front page story. but because it's hunter biden it will receive a light touch.

not what the chinese have said but done. when the virus showed up, they pushed aside the chinese cdc and world health organization people and the chinese military took over control of it. number 2 they shut down but you. -- wuhan. they encouraged international travel in and out of wuhan. when a country tried to shut the borders with china like president trump did, they called him a racist. it makes the chinese look guilty. to add to it, they never let international scientists if. they are just now letting scientists in but not american scientists. >> dan: one of the things going on at this chinese research facility were gain of function experiments.

they try to make a virus more lethal. kind of an interesting component to this story, no? >> well, certainly. it was of the just gain of function experiments, it was on coronaviruses and they stored more than 1500 strains. they didn't adhere to safety protocols and the first known case of coronavirus according to beijing occurred just a few miles from the wuhan institute of virology. the first known case had nothing to do with the sea food market. you put all of this together about china sending the top biological expert to it head the lab there to clean it up. it seems no unrealistic to assume it was just a transfer.
