police shooting of a 13-year-old adam toledo. he was hanging out with a 21-year-old roman who was firing a weapon. he was arrested. the 13-year-old hanging out with him at 2 a.m. dominated by the gang the latin kings, he is dead. toledo's family said he was unarmed when shot. to make sense of what happened on that tragic night. here's footage of the moments leading up on that shooting. >> police, stop! stop! show me your [bleep] hands! stop! >> laura: joining me is tim grace the attorney for the chicago police officer. the video showed adam toledo with his hands up and unarmed in the moment before he was shot.

how will your client claim this was self-defense? >> laura, that's not what the video shows. the thing is the officer had received information and make no mistake about this, mr. ro man was a latin king gang member. he was in a drive by shooting. the officers located mr. roman and he and the juvenile began to flee. the officer told him to drop the gun and told him this is the chicago police. mr. ro man got to the fence. as he turns he has a handgun in his right-hand. that semi-automatic handgun the ballistics match. the officer has no cover. he sees this gun and this

individual turning towards him. at this point the officer needs to make a split second decision. that's the hardest part. the officers have to make split second decisions with life-and-death. he made a decision consistent with the chicago use of force guidelines and the laws. >> laura: here's what the attorney for toledo's family said about your client. >> the officer screamed at him. show me your hands. adam complied. his hands were empty when he was shot in the chest. shooting an unarmed child is an assassination. >> laura: your reaction? >> she must have been absent the day they taught law in law school. we should not look at these times of deadly force incidences

through 2020 hindsight. we need to look at it through the perspective of the police officer. i will be curious to see what is the wound course of the round that went into this poor kid. how come nobody is talking to the latin kings? why is the police officer the villain in this case? the latin kings recounted him. branded him with a tattoo and had him out there in the middle of the night shooting at passing by cars. we have no curiousity about and we are vilifying a good police officer. >> laura: the mayor was siding with the police in this case. but then as the furor continued to build her tone changed. she became the same person who never misses an opportunity to attack the police. >> we live in a city that is traumatized by a long history of
