this, never seen a labor challenge such as we are facing now. >> you put an advertisement out there for workers and what happens? do you get anybody? >> we get almost nobody and we have situations where we don't have people show up for work or show up for interviews. i've never seen anything like this. >> let's look at the numbers, restaurant owners saying staffing is lower than it would be in the absence of covid 19 and this is pretty shocking. 83% in your state, 80% across the us but you say this is more complex than free government money. why? >> 300 extra dollars for unemployment benefits is sidelining a number of folks but at least here in wisconsin it's a much more complicated picture. we have teenagers that aren't working, parents don't want them to work, we have those that

still doing virtual learning or hybrid school board don't have day care for their kids. we estimate we've lost 22% of our hospitality workers to other industries because even during the pandemic those other industry still had job openings so we lost now at a critical time when we are trying to get back on pace to open up and gear up for the summer we can't find the staff and finally in wisconsin the other thing is we have flat population growth, unemployment rate in march was 3.8% so we really don't have the people to fill the jobs that we have. >> what is the solution? >> i don't know. this is something i discussed with my fellow restaurateurs every day. we tried everything.

to serve the community and give back and make a difference in this district. >> the cultural competence action plan is a 5-year plan created by the district diversity council that require social justice training, clubs for culturally competent practices, enables campus diversity council, establish diversity and inclusion week and cost $3 million over 10 years which would is your thought on this plan? >> the district diversity council began to come up with a way to eliminate bullying, discrimination, racism on campuses in schools and what was ultimately developed was a vehicle in my opinion to introduce critical race theory in our curriculum. i don't believe in embedding a political ideology in an

academic curriculum. the school board is to educate our children, reading, writing and arithmetic, the 3rs we need to concentrate on. there is a different way to deal with bullying and discrimination on campus, i don't think this is the right direction our district should have. >> the fact you ran away with so much of the vote says with a lot of other parents in the district are thinking as well. correct? >> i think so. it is amazing our town, 31,000 people, 22,000, 21,000 registered voters, we had 45% of registered voters vote, which is 2 to 3 times as many as any municipal election in the past was across the country it is crazy most of these municipal elections are 15%, 10% or less, we had 45%, the community has
