a pretty horrific weekend. i've been working here for 31 years and seen a lot of violence. this is more violence than i have ever seen was we are concerned, we need people to put down their guns. >> a horrific mother's day weekend in philadelphia has gun violence guy rockets. police are pleading for peace after the city sought 25 shootings, 7 of them fatal and at least 3 stabbings, joining me to react, terry o'connor whose husband, philadelphia police corporal james o'connor was killed in the line of duty. thank you for being here. i am always sad to talk to you under the circumstances. thank you for everything your husband did for the city of philadelphia. can you take me back to march 13th, 2020, and tell me what happened? >> that morning, thanks for

having me, back to march 13th i received a phone call around 6 am my husband had been shot. i didn't have much more information at that point other than a police officer would be coming to take me to temple hospital and i didn't know anything that happened at that point and i got to the hospital to find out he was fatally shot. jillian: he was a 23-year-old veteran of the force, served on the squad unit for 15 years and i understand attorney million mcswain when he announced the charges to the suspect who killed your husband he criticized the district attorney implying some of the responsibility was on him and his department calling it a pro violence defendant saying this was preventable. when you hear those words coming from an attorney and then you

see this endorsement of this da from the philadelphia inquirer, he deserves a second term as district attorney what was your opinion when you read that? >> don't understand why newspapers taking sides and backing this man, so much evidence to what he let happen in the city, talked about the violence over the weekend, it doesn't make sense to me that his policies are being endorsed. it is not working. the kid who killed my husband should not have been out of jail, a violent criminal past, they were constantly let out, wanted for murder, never should have been out so i don't understand why somebody would

thanks for being here. why did you feel compelled to write this op-ed? >> i'm a fifth-generation teacher. i've taught every level of school from graduate students down to elementary school kids and i can tell you regardless of the color of their skin or where they come from in the united states all they want to do is understand why this country is the last best hope for the world and critical race theory undermines that teaching, that america is a great country. >> here's what the biden administration wants to do so please bear with me, priority one includes projects that incorporate racially, ethnically, culturally and linguistically diverse perspectives into teaching and learning and priority 2 using standards of truth, understanding and recognizing bias, understand how inaccurate information may manipulate individuals, developing strategies to recognize accuracy in inaccurate information.

you are an educator. i come from a family of educators. a lot of education buzzwords in their that i don't know what they all mean. what does that mean in reality for teachers trying to educate our students on the ground? >> you make a good point about that vocabulary was always worn my students when you see all those words, a bunch of nice sounding words strung together you should be a little cautious and the reality is if this rule is implemented by the biden administration we are going to require any school that receives federal funding, almost all of them, to teach critical race the real. in that rule, a little further down from what you want, this rule would cite one of the most radical scholars in the united states, served in the mouth x driven curriculum of all schools in america and ultimately -- define every human being

government does not reflect always the views of the people of texas and so the city of austin voted to cut its police budget by one third swinging cuts. the first thing is to do is cancel new cadet classes and recruitment and what happened? a spike in violent crime, murders are up to the highest spike in 20 years, we know this doesn't work and even in austin the governor is responding and starting those cadet classes back up so the people of texas support the police, we support law enforcement and this bill makes sure our cities do the same thing. >> let's get to the city council voted to relaunch the police training academy earlier than expected. this is what austin says, we are authorizing a pilot, not authorizing cadet classes for perpetuity if reforms are not seriously implemented, this is a leap of faith but look at these numbers, they are not good.
