ticket for justify in june of 2018. i have both modern day triple crown winners. who was the trainer of both? bob baffert. >> dana: good thing i had that right. $2? how much did you win? >> $2.40. >> dana: clearly he is not betting enough, harris faulkner, take it away. >> harris: demanding answers, all the way to capitol hill now. why was a powerful teacher's union seemingly aloud to dictate cdc policy on when american schools could reopen? i'm harris faulkner. 20 house republicans are led by house minority whip steve scalise saying they are launching an investigation into alleged improper outside influence on the cdc by the american federation of teachers. right now about 1/3 of students
8:01 am
across the country are still not back in their classrooms full-time. the lawmakers are asking cdc chief to hand over those communications with the aft. that's a major democratic donor. some republican senators yesterday questioned the doctor over a report saying the agency used feedback from that teachers union word for word in some parts of cdc guidance. >> why is having offline secret negotiations with one stakeholder. >> as a matter of practice the cdc engages if stakeholders, with consumers who take our guidance. >> it suggests that aft leadership, they certainly changed the language of the guidance. >> it was the cdc scientists that provided the guidance that provided the science around what we should do.
8:02 am
>> harris: steve scalise, house minority whip and ranking republican is here with me now. great to see you today. my first question is, is the cdc in trouble? >> harris, i think the cdc is in trouble because they're being asked very serious questions and go back to the campaign. president biden said he would follow the science. here you had science saying most schools could reopen. the scientists were saying all schools should be open and they were getting ready to come out with that and all of a sudden the teachers union said wait, we don't want to have to go back into the classroom. and let students back in and so you saw them change it. they changed the basic metrics of science that were going to be used so instead of having most kids back in the classroom, very few kids about 90% of schools stayed closed because of that change in metrics undermining the science. it was done by the biden administration. they have yet to answer for it. we're trying to get those communications because this is
8:03 am
hurting kids. it is hurting millions of kids across america who may never make up this difference of not being in the classroom when they should be and science says they need to be. >> harris: quickly and i want to move on to a more big picture question but how important or critical is it to know that the aft was a huge donor, democratic donor? >> it's very important and again something that should be on the table for discussion. when you heard president biden saying he was going to follow the science and all of a sudden he throws the science out the window because a special interest donor, the teachers union, says that they don't want kids to be back in the classroom learning. we're seeing this in so many states where parents are just rising up even in berkeley when the teachers union head is telling all the teachers don't go to class, you can't be in the classroom and then they see him taking his kids to private school in the classroom that double standard is just -- people are going livid because they know it is hurting their
8:04 am
kids and they're watching the union heads take steps that go against the kids. san francisco, just to get a money grab is going to go in the classroom for one day so it shows you they can be in the classroom if it's about grabbing a bunch of money. if it's about helping your kids they aren't in the classroom. this is a dangerous place to see. what they're doing long term damage for our kids. >> harris: what you are talking about in san francisco they'll open up the schools to qualify for the cash and go right back to where they were again. tons of questions about that. i want to go, 37,000 feet, the big picture. there seems to be heat building here. you have all of this over the covid-19 school closures and the overall handling of the pandemic by this current administration. trouble getting americans back to work, representative scalise. a massive crisis on the southern border, violence exploding in the middle east, pipeline hack causing panic buying of gasoline. the list is a little longer
8:05 am
than that. the big picture leadership from the white house, where is it? are americans hearing enough from president biden? >> it's non-existent. you mentioned a number of crises we're saying. the president won't acknowledge and go down to the border. gas prices through the roof and people waiting in line. there was a major hack by russia likely. president biden doesn't want to confront that. you look at home prices. because of lumber prices going through the roof an average home is over $36,000 more than it was a year ago. look what's happening with unemployment. 8 million jobs are unfilled right now and president biden just ushered through a partisan bill to pay people billions of dollars not to work when 8 million jobs are unfilled right now. we're paying people not to work and they're borrowing money from our kids and grandkids to do it. we're seeing it on every front. the economy is really in a
8:06 am
delicate spot. we see inflation starting to go through the roof. our country is less secure. look what is happening around the world. who the president wants to let back into an agreement to get a nuclear weapon. they're helping funnel these bombs being shot into israel. where is the president's leadership on any of these crises? >> harris: where is he to answer the questions on all this? specifically with iran and what's going on between the palestinians and israel right now. what's breaking off into a very volatile situation this week alone. we can't have access through our press corps to the president of the united states to ask about how the iranian agreement or negotiation affects or infects policy toward what's happening with israel. we have jen psaki. that's not president biden so we think. >> she is trying to encourage him not to answer questions. >> harris: that's what we're hearing. if there is something
8:07 am
different, show us. house hearing underway right now. the topic on violent extremism and the response on the january 6th capitol riot. congressman, as this unfolds you're asking the f.b.i. to reopen the investigation into the 2017 shooting at that virginia baseball field that left you gravely injured, god bless you, you have recovered. but life changing, your injuries. alalong with several others who were hurt. why the push now? >> my colleagubrad win strup who saved me on that ballfield he started asking director wray why it classified this as suicide by cop. everybody who knows what happened on that ball field knows it wasn't suicide by cop. he went there to kill every republican and had a list of names of other republicans i wanted to kill. thank god for the her heroism
8:08 am
of capital police. they were plain clothes so he didn't know they were cops. they get into a shoot-out trying. he was trying to kill them. they both got shot in the shoot-out. that's not suicide by cop and that's how it's classified by the f.b.i. other agencies have called it doms i can terrorism. we asked the f.b.i. to update the record to reflect it properly and let us know why it was classified that way in the first place when everybody else who has given it a classification called it domestic terrorism. >> harris: if you can talk about what's going on in one place we can certainly learn our lawmakers and police officers under attack in another to get to the answers. congressman scalise, great to have you on the program. thank you very much. >> great being with you, harris. thanks. >> i always considered the cdc to be the gold standard. i don't anymore. i think the conflicting,
8:09 am
confusing guidance from your agency has undermined public confidence and contradicts the scientific guidance of many experts. >> harris: republican senator susan collins taking cdc chief dr. walensky to task over the bombshell report found the agency exaggerated the risk of outdoor covid transmission. one quote here, there is not a single documented covid infection anywhere in the world from casual outdoor interaction such as walking past someone on a street or eating at a nearby table. radio talk show host jason rantz. i don't know if you just heard steve scalise representative saying look, the cdc is in trouble because the questions are serious. >> they are. when you see this kind of data coming from "the new york times," media outlets in general that have been going
8:10 am
with the press releases coming out from the cdc and the biden administration this entire time, i think you can generally tell that things are starting to change. when we are not getting clear guidance while at the same time being told it is incredibly important to get the vaccine because that's the only way we'll turn things around, it is going to confuse people. i ask the question here in washington state for example. okay, what is the outdoor transmission rate in washington how many cases have we had where people got covid outside? i see a lot of people wearing masks despite we have a relatively high rate of vaccines in arms. the answer i got was i don't know. they don't actually track it in washington lots of states if not all of the states aren't tracking the outdoor transmission rate. so we were promised all the mandates we're getting and masks will be based on the data and science and you tell me you aren't actually tracking it because it's too hard to track. what are you coming up with
8:11 am
these -- what's the basis for the mandates? why are we still wearing masks outside and why in washington state where we have vaccinated sections in stadiums that -- outdoor stadiums telling people they have to wear a mask. it doesn't make sense. we have to get to some semblance of normalcy. when we keep these mandates not based in science we get away from people who will start saying i'm not going to follow the science that you're telling us exists because we don't trust you anymore. it will be a long term problem. >> harris: that's the case they aren't going to follow what they're being told they'll follow science. they can read it themselves. my sixth grader does. does the biden white house control what we read about them? a new report, jason, says the administration is demanding the opportunity to edit quotes from the administration officials before they are published. "politico" wrote this. in practice, that means the
8:12 am
information from an interview can be used in the story but in order for the person's name to be attached to the quote the reporter must transcribe the quotes they want and then send them to the communications team to approve that veto or edit them. jason, your take. >> so here is what the white house is going to do. they are going to use some of this as defense. some of this is normal. so when you have an interview and it is on background and you are trying to convince someone to do it on the record, there is a little bit of wheeling and dealing going on. can i use this part on the record? i want to make sure i got this quote correctly and you do a little bit of that behind the scenes. where this is going too far as you read the "politico" report is that the white house is trying to get them to change the narrative. so they are saying let me look at this quote. if we don't think this quote is a good enough reflection of what we at the white house want the narrative to be and whatever the topic happens to be what we're going to switch
8:13 am
it around. if you don't want it, you can't use it. that's not acting in good faith and why you have some of these reporters finally speaking up that "politico" was talking about something that is relatively routine means it's no longer routine. it is now crossing the line from that routine into relative pop -- propaganda. the obama administration did this as well. we start to see some of the old practices at play. them trying to take control of the narrative. which is rather telling. the media generally sides with them already. >> harris: well, the journalism point that you started with is so important. there is a difference between going on background or off the record and trying to pull some of that information into the public sphere and there is a bit of a go back and forth between what goes on the record now. that's completely different than saying i'm going to say that the president -- i don't want to pick on his dogs.
8:14 am
the dog did something and it is on the record and we're going with this and the white house wants to try to what, you know, change that. that's just my own makeup in my head example. unfortunately there are dogs involved. we'll move on. the entire school board in oklahoma city is going after a new law banning the teaching of critical race theory in public schools. calling it an insult and racist. let's watch and i'll get jason's take on the other side. >> this is definitely an insult. it is a situation that is both egregious to me for us to continue to try to shut the voices down of people in order to pass white fragility is bad. >> harris: the bill prohibits public schools and universities from teaching that quote, unquote, one race or sex is inherently superior foranother or someone is inherently racist, sexist or oh prosive because of their race or sex.
8:15 am
>> it's not controversial at all. it is controversial is more instructive about the person who believes it is controversial. the goal is to vilify the country's founders. it's again to pretend white supremacy infects every fiber of this country's being and its end goal is to dismantle so-called systems of oppression and rebuild it in the image that the people behind critical race theory and all other far less progressive ideals would like this country to be built. that's the goal and they are using young kids to do their bidding. it is pretty owedous but that's what it is they're doing and so glad parents across the country are finally speaking up and pushing back. >> harris: they are fighting hard for this. teach the facts. you don't have to editorialize around them. all right. jason rantz, great to have you on the program. a lot of big topics to cover with you today. thank you. >> thanks. >> harris: israel and hamas

hamas as they start to target the cities deeper in israel. the iron dome missile defense system is standing by the catch any rockets fired. we've been warned by soldiers the barrage could come at any minute and tanks headed to the area. the israelis are preparing for a possibility of a ground operation. you can hear over my shoulder a helicopter prepared to go fire on targets. harris. >> harris: trey yengst, stay safe out there. great reporting always bringing us the news. thank you very much. critics are ripping president biden for not fully supporting israel. white house press secretary jen psaki with this message yesterday. >> the president's support for israel's security and legitimate right to defend itself and its people is fundamental and will never waiver. we condemn ongoing rocket attacks by hamas and other terrorists against jerusalem and stand against extremism
8:25 am
that inflicted violence on both communities. >> harris: a headline in the "new york times." violence in israel challenges biden's stand back approach. that's the times. and former u.s. ambassador to the united states nikki haley shared this take on "the faulkner focus" yesterday. >> hamas now wants to test biden because they don't think he is going to do anything severe. they go and start shooting rockets into jerusalem and what does biden do, calls for restraint. what he should be doing is having israel's back. this is where biden should be calling out the palestinians. the only reason this is happening is because hamas is shooting rockets and biden needs to put a stop to it. he can do it by pulling money and calling for action and he can stop this right now. >> harris: i want to bring in retired four star general jack keane fox news senior strategic analyst and chairman of the institute for the study of war.
8:26 am
great to see you today, general. you always make it real for us. let's go here. is there some reason why this white house wouldn't engage to the point to help put an end to this? you heard nikki haley there, former ambassador to the u.n. and others saying biden needs to do something. is there a reason to take a stand back approach? >> i suspect the palestinians leadership abbas and leaders of the terrorist organization hamas i suspect the reason why they are using this dispute over housing in east jerusalem. it's a controversial issue and prone to be emotional. why the leaders are using this to spike the violence inside of israel is because of the biden administration. i believe they suspect that the biden administration as the previous obama-biden administration would be very sympathetic to the palestinians
8:27 am
and push back on the israelis. that was the pattern for eight years under obama. and i suspect that is part of the reason here for what we're seeing. what should take place here without any equivocation whatsoever, president biden should call out what the terrorist organization hamas is doing. there was nothing to justify conducting over 1,000 rocket attacks on cities inside of israel where innocent people, women and children and hospitals are all in residence. that is despicable behavior and must be called out. mohammed abbas is a weak leaders of the palestinian authority. as a result of the dispute over the housing he called for confrontation with the israelis. that produced the riots in the
8:28 am
major mosque in jerusalem. there is a reason why the arabs are normalizing relationship with the israelis. the first reason they know they have to confront iran, the destabilizer in the region. here iran is providing all the rockets and funding for hamas. the second reason is they have lost confidence in the palestinian leadership. they are fed up they won't make a peace deal regardless of the concessions that the israelis are making. they want new leaders. and so that's the framework for what is taking place here as this spills over into increasing escalating violence. >> harris: to remind everybody what you are talking about are the abraham accords ushered in by former president trump and there has been question how dedicated a biden administration would be to those or growing them and trying to normalize relations further with more arab nations. we don't know yet. but to the question of why
8:29 am
isn't the white house getting involved in the way so prescriptively to bring it to a better place. democrats are divided on this issue. maybe that tells us a little of why. np condemned the attacks by hamas and says israel has the right to defend herself against this assault. alexandria ocasio-cortez, and omar went after israel for its retaliatory air strikes as they put it. senator warren called the pending evictions illegal and represented tlaib claimed the israeli government is guilty of promoting racism. they have a big divide between the progressives and leadership here. >> yeah, there has always been a divide in america politically over the palestinian/israeli issue. growing sympathy for the palestinian issue. and people do understand there is suffering that's taking place there.
8:30 am
but the fundamental problem that exists there is an intractable situation because you have a terrorist organization, hamas, which is also the political leadership of gaza, who refuses to not only recognize the state of israel, they want to destroy it. and those words are spoken every single year. and then you have the palestinian authority's leadership fundamentally weak and is not willing to seriously negotiate and make a deal with the israelis. and that is why the situation is persisting the way it is. and one administration after another for over 40 years has tried to resolve this situation and they've all thrown up their hands. the best progress that has been made is the normalization of relationship among the arabs and israel. that's a sea change in the area which eventually may have -- may force the palestinians to make some concessions and get a deal going in israel. it will take some time. >> harris: the people who get
8:31 am
caught in the middle for terrorists who are weak leading them are the palestinians, as you say. we'll have to see what they will do to drive their own destiny forward, if they can, against the terrorists. we'll see. general jack keane always great to have your expertise and time on the program. thank you. well, there is a panic at the pump. multiple states are facing a gas shortage following that ransomware attack. how is the biden administration responding? again i ask for the leadership from the white house on yet another issue that's worsening. plus businesses are looking for workers but some people just don't want to go back to work. senator marsha blackburn and tennessee business owner have a message for president biden. stay close.

8:41 am
but i'm just wondering why isn't there fire in the belly to do something about this? >> some feel like sending these checks out causes people to look at them more favorably. we have five jobs available for every one person that is still on unemployment. and what our governor has done is to put a winddown on the plus-up taking this federal money. but there is no reason for people not to be getting back to work. harris, the best economic stimulus there is is a job. and people being productive in their work and being proud of supporting their families. these are things that are important to our society. they're important to communities and to families. so it is time to stop the stimulus. we are getting through the pandemic. jobs are coming back. we need workers to fill those jobs. >> harris: all right.
8:42 am
john, i want to know on the ground what it feels like when you are talking with people about taking jobs. are you hearing things like well, i don't have daycare, my kids still aren't in schools? just what are you hearing on the ground? >> we're not hearing any excuses about why they're not. they are just not interested. when the money is being put out there to do nothing it's difficult to get people to do something. we've increased our wages for starting pay. we're paying $14 and $16 to come in the door with no experience. no one is interested. we're using all kinds of sources to gain access to people who are interested in gaining jobs but we're not getting them. when we tell them this is what we'll do and pay. i have jobs that pay up to $22, $23 an hour and folks aren't interested to come in the door. i just need this to be over from giving extra money to sit at home. our existing employees are loyal to us and having to work

>> let me emphasize much as there was no cause for, say, hoarding toilet paper at the pandemic. there should be no cause for hoarding gasoline especially in light of the fact that the
8:50 am
pipeline should be substantially operational by the end of this week and over the weekend. >> harris: the energy secretary there down playing the colonial pipeline shutdown as nothing to panic over even as americans are seeing gas stations run dry. jason chaffetz and kevin walling, great to see you both. jason, start with you and your first impressions of the panic buying going on among americans as they are witnessing the gas pumps run dry. >> they didn't foreshadow and let people know it will be temporary in its nature and let's blame the people who actually made the attack, make them responsible for it. but at the same time, biden administration, you can't lie and mislead the american people. you go ahead and tell those millions of people down in the southeast that hey, there is no
8:51 am
problem here. these people are waiting in line for hours. look at those pictures out there. you can't mislead them. i think the biden administration is being misleading if not outright lying to people that this is a problem. >> harris: you know, kevin, having the energy secretary granholm say just a pat on the head and everything will be fine when you know your personal experience feels quite different, why not just acknowledge it? why not have a bigger conversation with the american people about this? >> it's a good question. and i think you'll see more of that coming out of the biden administration hopefully. you saw the energy secretary trying to downplay it to keep folks calm and not hoarding. from the white house podium you don't want to be panicking the american people. to jason's point, a good one. we have focus attention on the
8:52 am
attack from overseas that caused the shortage. >> harris: hold on a second. yes, the attack that caused the shortage. the russian cyber gang and its ransomware manipulation, yes, but can't you do both? it's the white house. the biggest government in the world. they should be able to do more than one thing. >> absolutely. you've seen an administration spring to action starting friday night to relax epa rules and work with our partners overseas to increase tankers to the east coast. the transportation secretary changing the rules with regards to overtime for truckers to get more gas to these areas. you have an administration pulling out all the stops to try and assess the situation and respond but again there is a reality on the ground. those cars are in line. massive amounts of cars. >> harris: with all due respect, kevin, i don't think the word spring into action, spring into anybody mind talking about the current administration. look at the border crisis.
8:53 am
your last quick thought and we'll move on to the next. >> one of the first things the biden administration did was shut down the keystone pipeline. maybe if we had other pipelines and a goal to be energy independent we wouldn't run into the problems. there is a consequence to cutting off our supply and just having to rely on this one pipeline. >> harris: the biden administration just yesterday doubled down on claims the southern border speaking of which is closed. we've been showing you for days this week the border is not closed. but our cameras telling that very different story so you can see yourself live images now, these are live. dozens of migrants again crossing illegally into texas right now going across, del rio, texas, the rio grande. new data show overall migrant encounters at a 20-year high with encounters up 900%. this year over last year since last april. even as encounters with
8:54 am
unaccompanied minors fell by 12%. jason, i come to you. >> 170,000 encounters are just the people they run into. again, the biden-harris administration is not telling the american people the truth. vice president harris should be at that border and should be meeting and seeing it for herself. it is inexcusable. >> harris: the senate officially went down there for the first time with senator bill hagerty and he joined us yesterday. he gave us so much information that you really need to be there for and he met with the leaders of guatemala and mexico. come on, vice president. last word from kevin. >> i'm hopeful. you saw the four leaders in the white house oval office today. hopefully immigration reform is part of that. we need congress to take action on comprehensive immigration reform. we need a surge of resources to the border and hopefully we'll see that come out of this meeting today. >> harris: kevin, we need to get you to the white house now. the president made it very
8:55 am
clear after he read the names of the people he has known for decades sitting on sofas near him said he is only talking about infrastructure today. you are right. there could be a lot of other things on that list and you can tell them. >> amen, harris, i'm ready to go. >> harris: get there.
