there have been 3400 rockets fired from the gaza strip and israel including the one that hit here yesterday. it was as i said quite miraculous that there were only light injuries despite the amount of damage and several hours after the rockets hit and people were still trying to clear out their belongings with the help of police the sirens rained out again just as people were getting back inside the building and had to run for shelter again. gaza city hospitals already bustling under the demands of covid it is injuries mount so does the stress there. some estimates are at the beginning of the conflict for every four militants hit or killed, one civilian was struck but now some say it is 1-to-1. the chairman of the joint chiefs of staff has said it is time for a cease-fire before things get out of hand, quote, he said it is in no one's interest to continue fighting with my

assessment is you risk stabilization and a series of negative consequences if the fighting continues so in my view de-escalation is a smart course of action. at this point for all parties concerned. that is it, it has been horrible for both sides and gaza and here where people are living under the constant sound of sirens, running for shelter, losing homes, but to some extent it is under control and if there was a much bigger event, a mass casualty event or a bigger one in gaza the conflict could take on a different tenor. laura: thank you. todd: president biden pressed for a cease-fire during talks with israeli prime minister benjamin and yahoo. jillian: progressives seek to delay the onslaught in israel.

conflict there are one example of progressives on the democrat party want to take this country where the majority of americans stand firmly i believe with israel. todd: with this conflict in the middle east should the biden administration be doing more or should we stand our ground at this point? >> we should show our support. i have 0 democrats supporting this resolution. that is an important signal being sent to hamas and hezbollah in the middle east. democrats need to support this resolution so we the united states stand firm and united in our support of the state of israel and the terrorist act of hamas and hezbollah. jillian: did you expect to gain democratic support? did the surprise you are not? >> it surprised me. that resolution 5 years ago would have gathered a bunch of democrats in support of the state of israel. they are petrified of the squad,

the progressive wing of their party and so they don't -- if you ask they support, i believe, support this resolution but they are terrified of the squad. that is why are have i believe no democrats of yet signed on. i have over 60 of my colleagues of signed on on the republican side and i expect the republican party of this goes to a vote all of my colleagues on the republican side will vote for this resolution. >> how problematic could this be for the democrats come 2022? >> it could be very problematic. the democrats are terrified of the squad. the squad is standing with hamas and so they may have to pay a political price for it and if that is the case, so be it. they need to stand for freedom,

and public health advantages of keeping them on. the author that piece, doctor lucy mcbride joined me now to discuss, thank you for being here, how did you arrive at that conclusion. >> great to be here. the fact is this. outdoor transmission of coronavirus is extremely unlikely. it is very very -- it is not documented the cases have been occurring between outdoor -- casual encounters like sitting at a restaurant or walking on the sidewalk, that is not where covid is happening. it is happening in indoor crowded spaces among unvaccinated people. when kids have been suffering for so long from pandemic restrictions the benefits of convening outside with their friends and seeing the full range of facial expressions in their peers is huge. it doesn't make sense to mask kids on fox and aided outside,

coverts, social distance 6 feet everywhere else. are those guidelines based in evidence? >> it doesn't makes anyone to be masking outside. is it possible for transmission to happen? sure if unvaccinated people are crowded around the playground or with outdoor picnic tables, it is highly unlikely. when you add the fact the case rates are falling fast and more shots going to arms in the united states kids and unvaccinated people are indirectly protected from the virus so it makes outdoors even more safer when it was already safe to begin with. >> if you're in charge of setting mask policy for the entire country how would you clear up this confusion we seem to have, i was with the pediatrician yesterday. i think there's general confusion even among you guys. >> there is confusion because

we've seen the cdc struggle with messaging. at the same time they're doing the best they can trying to message a very wide public. is what i'm telling my patients. while it is true the vaccines are stunningly effective and prevent you from getting covid, prevent you from transmitting the virus there's always a risk because everybody has unique medical positions. what is important to do is talk to your doctor can understand your unique health and safety issues and make a smart decision for you and your community. if you're unvaccinated is time to get vaccinated because that is the way to protect yourself, your community and that is the take-home message, get vaccinated so you can enjoy the freedom of those of us who have had the vaccine. >> we talked a lot about the unknowns with regard to the virus new jersey point out there are a lot of unknowns as to what developmental difficulties kids today are going to have when
