they will do what they have done for decades. the greatest theft of intellectual property. that's what is going on with the communist party. >> thanks for watching fox news prime time. i will be back here tomorrow. tucker carlson is next. >> ♪ ♪ >> tucker: good evening and welcome to "tucker carlson tonight." for more than a year the united states has been held in solitary confinement. the entire country was told it's immoral to touch a friend to shake hands or show our faces in public. americans have lived in shame. the authorities claim it was worth it. this saved countless lives from covid. they are lying. that hasn't been proved.
5:01 pm
we do know these unprecedented mask mandates have driven many americans to the brink of sanity. some beyond of it. we will have more on mask related mental illness, but first what has this isolation done to children? until now we have to guess. tonight we are hearing from a 10-year-old named john who lives in florida. he spoke at a school board meeting to describe what being forced to wear a mask has done to his life. >> i love my school and all. my teachers seamstressed. a teacher yell us at us when we have our mask down to have a drink of water -- she had her
5:02 pm
mask down when she was yelling at us. this happens a lot. it seems unfair for teachers to take their masks off while they yell at us kids that we need to keep ours up. mine makes it hard to breathe. i can't catch my breath. that makes me feel anxious. it's stressful. i had a hard time focussing with the mask on. a few years ago i ran into my teacher outside of school and she didn't recognize me because she has never seen my face before. i know my teacher as asthma and i understand where it's hard for her to wear a mask. she should have that choice, but i should too. i feel anxious with my face covered. i am not allowed to go maskless like her.
5:03 pm
it's unfair and doesn't make sense! i miss seeing people's face. i am scared we will never go back to normal. >> tucker: we don't put a lot of children on this show, any actually but john is an extraordinary 10-year-old. we are joined by him and his father mike. thanks for coming on. you are brave to do it. john, you said that wearing a mask makes you feel anxious. tell us what you did feel like when you have to wear it at school. >> when i have to wear it at school, it build up stress in me. what do i do? i don't recognize anybody. >> tucker: you said later in
5:04 pm
your talk and we didn't play it, but it was the most poignant part. you saw a teacher outside of school and she did not recognize you? >> yes. exactly. because we are stuck in a classroom wearing a mask 7 hours a day. so she hasener seen me or any of my classmates faces before. when i bumped into her at school, i said hi. she is like, oh, wait, that's you? oh, yeah. that is me. she is like hi, john. i don't see your face. all i see is just your eyes. >> tucker: that's so unnatural. why do you think they are making you wear a mask? did they tell you? >> to allegedly keep us safe.
5:05 pm
i don't see any science behind it. i don't see the science that masks work. >> tucker: do they ever explain the science to you? >> no, they simply tell us wear it. >> tucker: do they yell at a? >> yes, sometimes. >> tucker: what do they say? >> they say put your mask on because you are being disrespectful to all of us teachers who have to work really hard. we are always working hard too. it's almost 100 degrees outside. we for cloth masks and you expect us not to be hot? and complain. it's insanity.
5:06 pm
>> tucker: nicely put! and narcissistic. mike, has the school communicated to you why they are doing this? the chance of a 10-year-old dying of covid is much lower. >> no, i asked a basic question at my wife. at what point do we get to mask optional? i asked the principal and ran up the chain to the school board. there was no answer. there was no objective evidence. they haven't looked at this for over 7 months from when they did the school reopening plan. it became apparent to me no one was looking at this. this should be the most important thing. we are talking about the health and well being physically and psychologically of our children. no one was paying attention to it and managing the situation in terms of when do we get to mask optional? when does that happen?
5:07 pm
>> tucker: did the principal and the teachers and school board welcome your questions as a father? >> we get 3 minutes in a public meeting to comment. there is no dialogue. there is no transparency. they quote they are following the science but they have not provided what that science is they are relying on to keep the kids mandated in masks. everyone else in the state of florida -- we have a great governor -- saying let's get life back to normal. why is the school exempted from this? why can they make their own rules counter to everything? now we are hearing from the cdc finally and our governor and commissioner of education. our school board is making this decision on their own without any transparency or rationale for doing this.
5:08 pm
>> tucker: my producer said we have video of you today or yesterday at the school board meeting. it shows the reception you got. there it is. it looks like you are being asked to leave. >> i was. [laughing]. i was trying to wrap up my comments. they asked me to leave here and told me i was trespassing, which i think i will be banned from speaking at future school board meetings. they have don't like the message. they don't like it when someones and questions to hold them accountable for the safety and well being of 18,000 students and 2000 staff members. our school district has a positiveivity rate of less than 2%. do we have to get to zero -- when does this insanity end. >> tucker: are the father. you have a right to ask about
5:09 pm
your child. >> absolutely. what is more important than their health and safety? >> tucker: nothing. one last question, john. you said in your talk to the school board, which i am grateful that you delivered, you were confused because you were why would at for pulling your mask down to drink water but your teachers as they were yelling at you had pulled their mask down. what does that make you think? >> i was like, hmmm. is this the school policy? they are allowed to take their masks off when we take our mask down to get a drink of water? is that the new policy? no, i don't think so. a lot was going through my head. what do you mean? you have your mask down when we have our mask down to drink water and you are yelling at us
5:10 pm
to put it up when yours is not up. there is no logic. >> what is that called? >> hypocrisy. >> tucker: they don't like it when a lot goes through your head. you are a skeptical young citizen. i hope there are millions more like you. thanks for coming --. >> thank you, tucker. >> tucker: to stand back for a minute, the science shows us clearly for young americans the risk of dying from coronavirus is minuscule. a 22-year-old in new york has a 0.6% chance out of millions dieing from this virus. our odds of drowning in a bath tub or being hit by lightning are higher. the great unmasking is upon us but not everyone is happy.
5:11 pm
in neighborhood littered with signs about blm and climate change we have a mental health crisis on our hands. many americans don't want to stop wearing masks. they want to hide behind paper. why? there is no science. it's a neurosis that is spreading fast. this last thursday an anchor on good morning america admitted he is suffering from anxiety at the thought of showing her face in public. >> dr. fauci, help us with the mask situation. i live in new york. walking down the street, i stopped a random lady and said have you been vaccinated? she said yes. why are we wearing our masks? she said i don't know. [laughing]. i said me too, ma'am. i think we feel guilty or it's
5:12 pm
not time. it's monkey see, monkey do. do you think it's okay? >> tucker: that's not isolated. cnn published a piece by a psychologist who said his patients have anxious nightmares over going maskless. some feel compulsive about mask wearing and this won't abate because of the cdc announcing they don'ted have to do this. -- children are also suffering from this condition. some of our youngest kids may not remember a time when we were not wearing masks and staying far apart. is there anything sadder than that. other outlets notice this. the "new york times" ran a piece on people refusing to get rid of
5:13 pm
their masks. it focussed on joe glickman who wears a mask on his face with another cloth mask and wears goggles. he has been vaccinated and always had the vaccine. our hearts go out to him. the problem is there are a lot of people like him in the country. what do we do about it. brit hume joins us now. we are talking about people who have been vaccinated or recovered from coronavirus and have levels of antibodies that protect them from reinfection. yet they are still wearing masks. what do you make of this? >> you are right, tucker, this is a nurosis. -- neurosis.
5:14 pm
one thing that contributed to this is the early messaging and the coverage by the media. there is an old saying that no news is good news and good news is dull news and bad news makes marvelous copy. bad news about the coronavirus dominated the coverage to the exclusion of things we have known from the beginning that little kids like john are largely invulnable to theodies. -- disease. nor are they likely to spread it. the school is closed because they believed they would spread it to the teachers and they will die. kids may not get sick but they will kill other people. there is no study that shows
5:15 pm
that. the kids were out of school. now forcing them to continue to wear masks even in florida which is an open state. it's a form of collective madness that is passing from many people who wised up. too many people have not gotten over it. >> tucker: why would you want to terrify your population to the point where they exhibit symptoms of mental illness? that seems cruel. >> it's been a failure to trust the public. people thought in the beginning, people like dr. fauci who at first said something was a moment of candor from him. a years ago or longer when he said, i don't think everybody needs to go around wearing a mask. it might catch a couple of drop lets but it won't give you the protection you want. i think he was right the front
5:16 pm
time. i don't think these masks do much good. he later brought into it and advocated wearing a mask. i think what happened after that was, when the thing began to spread, they were afraid that people could not handle the truth. they told them to wear masks. after having told them not to. that was a nobel lie because you would cause the ppe and masks to be in short supply and nurses and doctors would not get them. the message from the cdc up to and including the most recent announcement which should have been a relief to everybody. cdc poisoned the well of trust in itself, people don't know what to believe. i don't blame them. >> tucker: i agree.
5:17 pm
they act if there is no cost to hiding your face from the fellowman. it's a huge cost. >> and you think of that little kid and the girl in the track meet who collapsed because she ran a race wearing a mask outdoors. that was insane. we have known that from the beginning. here we are. >> tucker: brit hume, thank you. >> you bet. >> tucker: for a long time people who thought well maybe ufos were real were embarrassed to say that out loud. you are into conspiracy theories. it turns out that ufos are real. the military has known this for a long time. the u.s. navy has been encountering them every day over years in restricted air space. it's beyond belief.
