"the faulkner focus". >> harris: international pressure is growing for a cease-fire. prime minister benjamin netanyahu says israel will press on against the terror group hamas. trey yengst is live near the gaza border with the latest. trace new developments and we're coming straight to you this hour. >> good morning. israel and hamas have entered
8:01 am
their 10th day of fighting. earlier this afternoon four rockets were fired into northern israel from lebanon by suspected palestinian factions there. a breaking development. the israelis may be facing a two-front war. we understand israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu will be holding security consultations this evening trying to understand who fired these rockets. but we know the israeli military responded with artillery strikes into lebanon happening an overnight air campaign targeting hamas tunnel infrastructure inside gaza. 3700 of rockets into israel. there is no timeline for ending this operation despite urging by president biden asking him to push the operation towards a cease-fire. listen to what prime minister netanyahu had to say earlier today.
8:02 am
>> to have israel criticized for that is absurd. not only is it absurd and unjust and untrue it does enormous damage to democracies fighting this kind of evil. it says you cannot protect yourself. because in the course of doing that instead of having the perpetrators who commit war crimes or hiding behind civilians and firing on civilians, not having -- it's the height of hypocrisy and stupidity. >> reports indicate israel twice tried to kill the chief of the hamas military wing and failed inside gaza rescue teams are digging through the rubble of collapsed buildings looking for survaifshors. many survivors have moved closer to hospitals and schools. the humanitarian situation inside gaza is unraveling and attempts to deliver aid were halted after convoys of trucks
8:03 am
were targeted with mortars. israeli artillery still firing into the gaza strip and attack helicopters have been targeting hamas launching units throughout the day along the strip. >> harris: trucks trying to bring aid to the palestinian people and hamas terrorists fire on those trucks. they aren't on the side of the people. that doesn't seem difficult to understand. >> that's the big question about why they would fire on this aid that was headed into gaza. the reports indicate the jordanians tried again today to send shipments of aid into the gaza strip and once again came under rocket and mortar fire. the situation inside gaza as it deteriorates further is also detaor orriateing politically. all don't support hamas but many are caught in the
8:04 am
crossfire. in the coming days we'll see the situation inside gaza deteriorate further. we talk about electricity and water and even about food. so the pressure increases on hamas to continue. the one thing they do have support on related to firing rockets into israel but also having to deal with the humanitarian situation. we hope in the coming 24 hours journalists will be allowed entry to gaza to get a better idea what is happening and what sort of aid these civilians need. >> harris: it is interesting. politics play a role in all of this. hamas must be deaf and blind when it comes to what it looks like when you don't help your own people and you started something. israel is not backing down. trey yengst, thank you very much. fox news alert now as three republicans have been pushed against now on the house floor for refusing to wear their masks as the battle over mask mandating is ramping up on capitol hill. in fact now it's quite hot. several house republicans are
8:05 am
fighting back against speaker nancy pelosi's refusal to lift the mask mandate despite the cdc latest guidelines. the lawmakers are chatting maskless on the house floor between votes. the democrat-led chamber has ordered three of those house republicans to pay $500 fines. the other eight being given warnings. congressman and army veteran brian mast among those find says pelosi only cares about power. >> i went onto the floor of the house of representatives. i had to speak. as i was sitting there a member of the house sergeant-at-arms staff approached me and asked me if i was going to put on my mask. i said no and i was fined. the only thing speaker pelosi is protecting is tire ran call control. if you've been vaccinated no reason for you to have to wear a mask on the floor of the house. >> harris: house republicans
8:06 am
are pushing a resolution today that would end the mask mandate for fully vaccinated people inside the capitol complex. my understanding that's a lot of people. joining me now is congresswoman van dine. she is getting mic'd up for us and so glad the congresswoman can be here. you had to rush to get here. it is happening now. thank you for being here. take us inside what's happening on the floor of the house. >> a lot of us want to do our job and get in and vote. we also want to make sure we send the right message. we're following cdc guidelines. we've heard loud and clear from -- masks inside or outside and we're following the science. but we have a leader in nancy pelosi who still is fear mongering, who is still playing political theater and is forcing people basically to complete control issue. only when they are on camera to
8:07 am
wear these masks. when you go outside we're all together in the hallway and all in meetings together and yet only when we're on camera is she insisting that we continue the mask mandate. i think that if we're trying to send a message to people that once you get vaccinated there has to be a benefit to that. and when the science has been clear and announced we need to be consistent with that and stop being hypocrites on the house floor. >> harris: i want to ask you about the numbers of people fully vaccinated. we know from the joint address to congress the president gave that whole hall with many of you in it has been fully vaccinated. what does it look like on the hill? if you follow cdc guidance and you guys are trying to do that if you're vaccinated. >> i can't speak for the other members. i've been vaccinated since january and people have all had an option to be vaccinated.
8:08 am
so if they've been vaccinated -- no audio i'm not for mandatory vaccinations. make your own decision. if you made the decision to get the vaccination there should be a benefit. if you haven't that's a risk you're taking. >> harris: i know we're having a little bit of an issue technically with the congresswoman right now. i want to get to this. white house senior medical advisor admits he has been wearing a mask for the optics of it. the congresswoman was saying just there some of it according to her and other members of the house who are republicans say it is all about the cameras as well. let's watch this. >> i am now much more comfortable in people seeing me indoors without a mask. i mean, before the cdc made the recommendation change, i didn't want to look like i was giving mixed signals. being a fully vaccinated
8:09 am
person, the chances of my getting infected in an indoor setting is extremely low. >> if we aren't spreading the infection isn't it just theater? without the vaccine and wearing two masks, isn't that theater? >> harris: that's exactly what the congresswoman van dine was just saying was playing on the house floor. i want to move to jason chaffetz former chairman of the house oversight committee. when you are on the hill and you have been there so many times, jason. when you are on the hill everything turns to politics. what is the game and theater being played that the congresswoman is talking about with nancy pelosi potentially? >> i believe the mask mandate on the floor of the house for people vaccinated is purely political theater. remember, nancy pelosi needs to pass -- she wants to pass a $4 trillion some people want it to be a $7 trillion bill. the only way to do that is to say we're still in crisis mode.
8:10 am
there is nothing that radiates that imagery of crisis by having to wear masks. if she didn't have the bills she had to pass i don't think it would be there. and the hypocrisy. remember when nancy pelosi needed votes to put her into power, she brought people that were covid positive onto the floor of the house albeit behind plexiglas. the masks don't need to be there any more. >> harris: talk to me about what happens inside the house when something like this is going on. i don't know if you heard the congresswoman. it was great to get her to the camera as fast as we did. it is heated and this is devolving into a situation where the list is getting longer. you have eight republicans who are being warned that they have to wear their mask or they will slide into the territory of hundreds of dollars in fines. >> i think it is unconstitutional. the constitution specifically states that the house will set the rules but it also
8:11 am
explicitly says you cannot alter the compensation of the house of representatives. being unconstitutional never slowed nancy pelosi down in the past. it was ridiculous she did that against brian mast. lost his leg serving in afghanistan, the bronze star and you are going to fine him $500 because he is not wearing a mask? come on. >> harris: wow. quickly we saw senator rand paul going back and forth with dr. anthony fauci yesterday over this idea of the doctor saying well it is optics that i'm wearing the mask now. what message does it send when you are fully vaccinated. the top epidemiologist in the nation and you don't trust the vaccine. or is it some other message i'm missing? >> unintentionally they're telling people the vaccine doesn't actually work. i happen to believe that it does work. but i also believe in
8:12 am
individual responsibility, self-determination. the proper role of government is to inform the public and let them make those decisions. i hope conservatives and everybody will look at people across the street and not judge them as to whether or not they're wearing a mask just like i don't want to be judged the color of their skin or anything else. relax, everybody. if you want to wear a mask, do it. if you don't want to wear a mask, then you don't have to do it. >> harris: tell the speaker of the house. it's hot there. children aren't having the same discussions. they want their lives back and you can look at the numbers for proof of that. a lot of questions about children and masks. a teacher in wisconsin caught on video berating a student for not wearing one and a fourth grader speaking out against being forced to mask up. >> i don't care if you're vaccinated you little [bleep]. you are not a special person around here. you should hear how everybody talks about you. you are a jerk.
8:13 am
you are a jerk. grow up. have a little compassion for other people in the world. >> harris: she better never teach science, jason. she doesn't know it. >> there was another story out of florida where a teacher allegedly was arrested and charges have not been filed but the allegation was students were coming in not wearing their masks properly and spraying them with disinfect ant. i'm telling you, the impact that has happened on these kids still having to wear masks playing sports and soccer, lacrosse, that sort of thing, people are fed up with it. it's time to move on. there is still a threat, still a risk. wash your hands, be smart but you don't need to berate kids like that. that's not the proper way to win them over and allow them to engage in a decision making process that is positive. >> harris: i want to throw these up.
8:14 am
cdc director walensky now says. kids are handling it like the adults should be. 4.1 million teenagers between the ages of 12 and 17 made their decision with their families to get vaccinated already. that number was just 600,000 last week right after it was announced between 12 and 15-year-olds. we're seeing this rolling discussion happening in houses and it is not mandated. it is not a lockdown situation. these are people who are capable of making their own decisions and they're under 17. >> they can do it with their parents. if i had a child in that age category, i don't know, have they done enough testing of that? i would have to consult and work with a doctor that i trust and know in order to make that decision. but let's also understand and you and i talked about this 3-year-olds on airplanes don't have to wear a mask to protect themselves. that air in the airplane is supposed to be the safest air on the planet and yet they
8:15 am
still making 3-year-olds wear a mask? it's just not right. >> harris: it is fascinating. jason chaffetz thank you for being here and stepping in and reacting to congresswoman van dine as things were devolving on the house floor over masks. when a picture says it all, what this photo says about the deep divide among democrats over supporting israel. wow. somebody saying. president biden getting an earful from squad member rashida tlaib. what she said to each other. it's okay for russia to get a new pipeline but not the u.s. this is controversial. senator tom cotton from arkansas joins "the faulkner focus" next. >> they have shown themselves unable to tell the truth to the

you heard him saying 90% pickup in violent crimes. the city is difficult enough under the pressure but now it is opening up. the pandemic you hear the mayor blaming all this. he can go forward. where is the leadership? >> i don't think anyone would disagree with the fact that mayor deblasio hasn't been showing much leadership and hasn't through both of his terms. i do live in new york city. it hits close to home for me. what i'm paying attention to is watching the issue of crime in the mayoral race. lots of candidates who worked with mayor deblasio and they are all running away from deblasio policies. he is not popular or liked and people are looking for a change in terms of what we have in the mayor's office especially when it comes to issues like crime. >> harris: quickly, i want to come back to you. when you look at the map it's

predominantly democrat-led cities. i've argued with a lot of people on this very show about why that is. but why is it? >> well, why is it that the democrat-led cities where policies often benefit the criminal? i'm talking about i look at my hometown of chicago. kim foxx dropped all charges on felony counts over almost 30,000 cases which was much different than her predecessor. you look at those statistics and the fact that people running for district attorney in the city of new york are saying hey, we are going to lighten the load. people shouldn't be going to jail for some of these things. maybe there is some need to look at some policies and say maybe it's too harsh but at the same time that's not what we've been seeing across the board and why there has to be a level of consistency there. criminals need to fear going to jail which they seemingly don't fare these days. >> harris: i don't know how that's a policy thing for

evidence what happened when trump said i can go on fifth avenue and shoot someone and everyone would love me. it was front page news and the press called him deplorable and he said he was joking when he said it. i would imagine you have the same level of accountability with another sitting president who made comments about attacking the press before. i should do this or that to you. he said he was joking, fine. still there hasn't been the same level of accountability we saw with trump on joe biden. >> harris: is this okay for the president to be joking about running over a member of the media? >> i think this comparison is unfair for him to say there is no accountability. joe biden talks about the importance of a free press. >> harris: why not take more of our questions? >> harris, i had said a number of times don't even try it,

>> the "washington post" said they would take away the lying meter because joe biden was in office. they don't need it anymore when joe biden has lied on a number of occasions already. how is there accountability still? i don't get it. it has to be consistent across the board. >> let me please get this out. donald trump stood up at his rallies and pointed at people would worked for cnn and called them fake news and enemy of the people. he yucked it up with vladimir putin who kills members of the press and kills people who oppose him. >> harris: wait, you are comparing any president of the united states to vladimir putin? i'm confused by that. >> i'm saying -- >> harris: let's just pretend that joe biden learned from the past mistakes of other presidents. let's pretend that he actually
