town hall with five g.o.p. governors who each put their constituents needs and freedoms above all else. tonight we are going to bring you some highlights from that. but first, we are winning. that's the focus of tonight's first "angle." the fact is democrats got way too cocky over the past year and especially since biden stumbled into the white house. i think they thought that beating trump meant that they had a mandate to radically remake the u.s., that the red states would suddenly just bow down to the gloom gang and sign on to all manner of nonsense. but texas, florida, south dakota, iowa, tennessee, and so many others, they are leading the way now to a brighter more hopeful future democrats can ever offer. whether the issue is school curricula or girls sports, covid mandates or ballot integrity measures, taxes, they are passing smart legislation. they are running strong

candidates and in some cases, when they need to, they are filing lawsuits. all with a very confident forward-looking posture. over the weekend, "the washington post" revealed their worry about democrats chances in 2022. a growing list of house democrats from competitive districts is headed for the exits, adding yet another concern for a party facing an uphill fight to maintain control of congress next year. and by the way, if you wonder what america would look like if democrats really had their way, look no further than germany. last year liberals were holding up germany as a model of competent covid management. now in the middle of another lockdown, yes, that's what germany is. it's only may, by the way that germany has already canceled oktoberfest. more americans are seeing what we warned about so long ago. that liberals will never live a comfortable with you getting all your freedom back. they're going to dangle the prospect of getting back to normal, but only if you get your

shots. democrats want you to choose between giving your child a drug they don't need in order to get an education desperately do need. parents are going to have very difficult decisions to make in litigation will rightly be pursued. and there will be many difficulties ahead for our families, but there's no doubt that republicans are beginning to win again and it's making pelosi and schumer very, very nervous. the should've never bowed down to the far left on things like border policy or climate change, race, or anything else for that matter. it's all been a disaster for them, but as the curtain is slowly being pulled back on their plans, i expect they're going to desperately try to market their radical plans as pragmatic and inclusive. they are neither. as red state leaders are showing us, we don't need to spend trillions of dollars and new money to grow an economy, we just need to open up and get the government off our backs. and that's the angle.

since the pandemic began, states led by republican governors have far outpaced those led by their democratic counterparts. i'm talking from the lowest unemployment rates to the highest gdp growth. red state governors had cared for their constituents and they've preserved our god-given freedoms and when they had to, restore them. now, while others were eager to take them away. we are joining you tonight live in the free state of florida in orlando. [cheers and applause] whereas you can see, most of the audience -- most of the audience is massless, which i love to see and that's because the governor of the state, ron desantis, is one of the first state leaders to fight back against the so-called experts and he never imposed a statewide mask mandate. governor, thank you for hosting us tonight. i'm so delighted that all of you are here tonight, we're going to have a great time. to my left is texas

governor greg abbott. his state has the second highest gdp growth in the last [indiscernible]. and that's because he put his constituents and their economic well-being first and along with us is iowa governor kim reynolds, because her state was one of the first to open up schools for in person learning. also here, nebraska governor pete ricketts, his state tied for the lowest unemployment rate in the country at 2.9% -- oh, my god! and our final red state trailblazer, of course mississippi governor, one of the first to lift a statewide mask mandate and his state would soon ease restrictions on all indoor activities as well. ladies and john, these are your red state trailblazers, let's give them a round of applause. [scattered applause] so tonight, this is going to be kind of wild. we are going to go to a lot of different topics but we are going to talk to them about how they lead their states, the way

they lead them, the strategies they decided to use, communications, policywise, all to preserve economic freedom and also advance the freedom that, again, we all have become accustomed to having but others were eager to take away. don't think this is just limited to covid, it's not. we're going to discuss how they plan to combat the left's injection of race into every argument, the current anti-police agenda, the efforts to indoctrinate our children and how democrats in washington are looking to strip powers from the states completely. nothing is off limits tonight. governor reeves, you're so young. >> i go by tate. >> laura: we have not had meeting between the covid task force in this white house and the governors and i know a number of you governors are like "what's going on." the trump administration should have regular briefings multiple times a week led by vice president mike pence. is this a concern at all?

>> it's a concern for me and the reason it's a concern for me is because president trump was on nine different calls about the pandemic. vice president pence led 40 different calls personally and that's one of the things that made a huge difference because we were able to talk directly at to those in the decision-making process and the fact of the matter is we in red states trust americans. the biden demonstration simply wants to insult americans and assume if they can't make their own decisions they can't do what's best for themselves and their families and that's just the wrong approach and i think if you look at economic statistics and if you look at quality-of-life statistics across america, it bears itself out. >> laura: governor desantis, lauren pattison from oviedo, florida, has a question. >> hi, governor desantis, how are you this evening? human beings have a right to free movement has not had their daily activities infringed upon. how are state representative's going to handle if private companies try to enforce vaccine

passports? >> great question and i'm proud to be the first i think elected official in the country, certainly statewide or governor, to say we are not having vaccine passports in the state of florida. [scattered applause] and not just saying government can't make you. private businesses can't make you because here's the thing: you have a right to participate in society without them asking you to divulge this type of health information, what, just to go to a movie, just to go to a ball game? so we are applying it across the board, the state legislature -- i did an executive order but that's my temporary. our legislature has passed what i asked for and i will be signing that into law very soon. [scattered applause] >> laura: governor reynolds, i saw you nodding in agreement. they said we will call it a vexing certificate because that passport language is so scary to people. is it better if it's a certificate? it's all for health, it's all good, right? >> we are doing the same thing in iowa. i'm proud to say either i will

issue an executive order i will get the legislature an opportunity to pass legislation to ban passports. [indiscernible] i should have it to my desk next week so we are following suit. [indiscernible] either here or be marginalized and that is ridiculous but that's not who we are as americans. >> laura: a question about the mandates for masks. >> hi, hello, governor. i would like to ask about how the mask mandates could potentially be conditioning the american people for other policies down the line. >> laura: governor reeves. >> that's certainly a concern that all of us have. when you look at what we did in our state, we haven't had a statewide mask mandate in place since the beginning of the summer of last year and part of the reason that we look at it at that time was the fact that we didn't really know what we didn't know at that time but as the data became more and more

apparent, and every decision i've made throat the pandemic has been databased and it's been based upon the numbers and as governor ricketts said earlier, it's not just about total number of cases. it's been about hospitalizations. at our peak we had 1,444 mississippians and hospital beds. today we have less than 170. we are down 90% and our hospital capacity was able to handle the 1,444 that we had and so there's no doubt that there are those on the far left of the democrat party who believe that government should control all decisions made by all americans, and that's something that we have to be willing and able to stand up and push back against and i think your concern about masks being that first step certainly is valid and one that we should pay very, very close attention to. >> laura: governor ricketts, another concern from others, and i'm a mother of three children, is that the youngest children will be required to get vaccinated in schools. we're talking but kindergarten up and dr. fauci, i believe it

was yesterday, set our kids are going to have to get vaccinated against covid. it your position this as vis-a-vis private schools and public schools in your state. >> so i came out early on is similar to what governor abbott was saying, these are emergency authorizations, nobody should be mandated to get a vaccine. >> laura: to attend school. >> again, to his point, this is emergency use authorization for one of the things we also know about young kids is they are the ones least at risk, right? we know that frankly we looked at our data in nebraska and are twice as likely to have a fatal car accident as you are to have a fatal outcome from covid if you're a young child. so it would be completely unnecessary and again, a huge violation of the parental rights to have a school be able -- telling them that they had to do this, especially -- >> laura: what about flying, what about airlines? if florida is a hub for airlines, huge airline travel -- i was in the orlando airport. packed. what if airlines began requiring

vaccine certificates? >> not going to be able to do it in a state of florida and that will be statutory very soon. [scattered applause] but look, we worked very hard -- we did seniors first on the vaccination, we never required it but we offered it. we've done millions of people. if you have the opportunity to take it. it's there for you. take it if you want to take it, protect yourself, but we are not going to condition this. this is not meant to be like you're part of the club, you're not, because there are some people that have valid reasons for not doing it, some people have just decided not to into say say they can't participate in society based off that decision, particularly given younger people are just simply have very little risk for this and so we can go down that road. give them an inch, they will take a mile. >> laura: one issue where biden does not think covid is a big issue is at the border, okay? here he was last night.

>> president biden: i kept my commitments in a comprehensive immigration bill for the united states congress. if you believe in a pathway to citizenship, over 11 million undocumented folks secure protection for dreamers. >> laura: governor abbott, illegal immigration exploding, we all know it, we all see it, the media is not covering it as they should but what's your message to the biden administration just on what we learned yesterday about the number of covid-positive migrants who are being released our communities? >> so the covid relief migrants is one challenge but i got to tell you this: the biden first 100 days has been very successful for the cartels, for the drug smugglers, for the human traffickers for profiteering off of all the migrants who come across the border illegally and because so many migrants are coming across the border illegally, what it means is border patrol officers are fully occupied processing

all these migrants and that leaves open miles of border that the cartels can come across that's why launched what's called operation lone star. operation lone star, we have deployed a thousand department of public safety troops as well as national guard to our border to secure our border from the people coming across. [scattered applause] so here's what we want to do. the deal i want to cut is texas will secure the border and the biden administration pay for it. [scattered applause] >> laura: governor reynolds, you have said definitively that you will not take migrant children that the federal government has requested to be placed in iowa communities. you're getting pushback from all the usual groups on that. republicans are heartless, they don't care about the kids, they don't care about the needs of the greater country. your response. >> i would push back and say this administration is heartless. they created this crisis at the border. they are putting these children

at risk by the policies that they've eliminated that we all know were working. i'm the governor of the state of iowa and my number one responsibility is to protect the health and safety of iowans and it would be irresponsible for me not to keep that in the forefront of every decision that i make. >> laura: coming up, the left has been pushing this big lie that america systemically racist. up next, the red state trailblazers explain how they are fighting this in their own states. stay there. to make progress, we must keep taking steps forward.

♪ ♪ >> laura: the big lie about america. that's the focus of tonight's angle. >> america has a long history of systemic racism. black americans and black men in particular have been treated, throughout the course of our history, as less than human. >> president biden: we can't stop here. we can and we must do more to reduce the likelihood that a tragedy like this will ever happen again and this takes acknowledging and confronting head on systemic racism and the racial disparities that exist in policing and in our criminal justice system more broadly. >> laura: that's the big lie, systemic racism.

did joe biden always believed that the nation was racist to its core? did he believe this one barack obama and he were elected not once, but twice? historic elections. did that do nothing to remove this stain on our nation's sole? what about the 1965 civil rights act? does joe biden really believed that he presides over a country where law enforcement is essentially a racist killing machine? i mean, who knows. even if it's not the one making the calls on this stuff, he's mouthing the words. but do not think for a nanosecond that the left-wing media and the activists who went on and on today about george floyd and they were worried about justice -- they are not focused on the tragedy of george floyd, because for them, he was just a stepping stone to tearing down america. they have to convince all black americans at the police hate

them and will never be fair to them. in the same activists, the same media people, you know who they are, they feel justified in conflating floyd's case with every other one involving an african-american and law enforcement. minnesota's attorney general keith ellison, he's an officer of the court. he knows it is wrong, it is nonsensical, to generalize across disparate fact patterns, different types of evidence, totally different cases, but he does it anyway. >> we have seen rodney king, oscar grant, eric garner, michael brown, freddie gray, sandra bland, philando castile, stephon clark, atatiana jefferson, anton black, breonna taylor and now daunte wright and adam toledo. this has to end. the work of our generation is to put an end to the vestiges of

jim crow and the centuries of trauma and finally put an end to racism. >> laura: well, that is a laudable goal. that's what we all want. but they cling to the big lie and they want to reprogram all of america to believe that justice isn't served when just one individual pays for criminal wrongdoing. for them, punishment has to be wide reaching and never ending. >> one down, many, many more to go. >> it's sort of a cultural makeup call. >> are not happy, i'm not pleased, i don't have any sense of satisfaction, i don't think this is the system working, i don't think this is a good thing. >> this verdict is not justice. frankly, i don't even think we call it full accountability. >> laura: well, the left -- it's always committed to use this case in any instance of white cops having bad

interactions with black americans to reinforce the same big lie. mainly that america is a systemically racist place. it's a country where black people are targeted and in constant danger. they can never get ahead. so that like, what does it do? it drives us apart and it sends so many americans back into their respective corners and cuts off conversations. it doesn't start them. it also warped thinking. check out this recent study examining perceptions about racism versus reality. for instance, statistics show that about five times more black americans are killed in traffic accidents then encounters with the police, but because of the relentlessly negative narrative peddled by politicians and the press, the public is woefully uninformed. eight in ten black americans said that they believe young black men are more likely to die in police shootings than in traffic accidents. blacks who voted for president donald trump in 2020

were far less likely to wrongly believe that police shootings claim more young black lives in traffic accidents but among those who voted for joe biden, 81% were wrong. they are being told the big lie. this is staggering. imagine holding such a terribly dark view of the united states, your country. but no one cares about the facts. this is always going to be about emotions, images, bumper stickers, placards, shouting, yelling at people in restaurants, the woke political posturing of the moment. i think most americans see what the left is doing here and it's not going to work. most just want to live in peace and freedom. they want a shot at prosperity and they want their kids to have a decent education. and i think most want the government just to get off their backs, stop lecturing us about how we need to evolve and change our language in order to satisfy the woke warrior class.

people of all races and creeds deserve the truth from their political leaders and today, president biden showed us that on the issue of justice and race, is just incapable of telling it to us. and that's the end goal. >> i don't think america is a racist country, but we also do have to speak truth about the history of racism in our country and its existence today and i applaud the president for always having the ability and the courage, frankly, to speak the truth about it. one of the greatest threats to our national security is domestic terrorism manifested by whites and pharmacists. and so these are issues that we must confront. >> laura: is that what you're facing in the state of nebraska, an outbreak of white supremacy? because it sounds like that when you hear vice president kemal harris. >> that is not the single greatest threat to our safety and security in nebraska. in fact, if you look over the course of last year with the

riots, i think you see this across the country, the real threat to security is the dangerous defund the police movement which is in some states, not in ours, but some states undermining law enforcement or preventing them from doing their job and frankly when i talked to my county prosecutors, my law enforcement, you know that harms the worst? it's our folks in the minority communities because they know that the police are there to help them. now, we've got to change this narrative with regard to law enforcement. it has never been harder to be a law enforcement officials in right now. we need to support our police, not attack our police. [scattered applause] >> laura: governor desantis you recently signed into law what is called the antiriot legislations, pro-law enforcement bill but the aclu is saying, get this, that the bill would silence and criminalize floridians who want to exercise their first amendment right to peacefully protest, governor. you're going after peaceful protesters, aren't you in the

aclu is very angry at you. >> well, i think it's interesting they would say that. what we do as a couple things, one, the local government tries to defund enforcement, the state of florida will not let that happen. we will stand by law enforcement. we also will make local governments protect folks, if you do have a riot, you need to get in there and protect people. if you don't, people can soothe the local government to damage to themselves or their property and finally, if you riot, if you loot, if you're violent at one of these assemblies, were putting in your jail -- were putting you in jail, period. >> laura: want to play something that vice president desha gibson vice president -- president biden set about law enforcement. >> we've all seen injustice -- we have to come together to rebuild trust between law enforcement and the people they serve. to root out systemic racism in our criminal justice system and enact police reform in george floyd's name. >> laura: governor, activists

say it is criminal to say there is not systemic racism in the country. that video of george floyd, other law enforcement involved shootings of african-american men, the video plays and unrest often erupts. your reaction to what he claimed about the systemic racism. >> there is not systemic racism in america. we live in the greatest country in the history of mankind and in mississippi i was very proud of the fact that last year we had peaceful protesters, but we did not have one event in which there was a riot and the reason for that is because in our state we back the blue. we support the police. in fact, just last friday i was dedicating a brand-new police station that has a large training facility. we are not trying to defund the police like the far left, we are actually investing in our police because we know that we are indebted to them for keeping our communities safe. >> laura: but governor abbott, how do we recruit young men and

women to go into law enforcement if they know during a peaceful protest someone will come up to them within an inch away from their face, spit at them, which i think is an assault, but spit at them, call them every name in the book, come a millimeter from the face or club and on the back of the head and they could become heroes in this society today. how do you recruit people? >> your question is the right question because if you look at cities across america right now, police officers are retiring and quitting and cities are going to be less safe. these are men and women who do something that few of us do. they put their life on the line to protect you. they need to be supported, not criticized or condemned. we must support law enforcement to make sure we are able to hire law enforcement. >> laura: up next, the left's ambitious and pernicious plan to indoctrinate your children against america. it's happening in the schools. that's next.

crippling sanctions. now back to "the ingraham angle." >> laura: reading, writing, and inciting. that's the focus of tonight's angle. young people especially are being whipped up into a frenzy by an irresponsible media and their biased reporting. on social media it's happening and of course in schools. enter the biden education department. today it proposed a rule urging the development of culturally responsive teaching in american history and civics and holding up the widely discredited "new york times" 1619 project as a model. of course the big lie of the 1619 farce is that america is a systemically racist country and they go from there. well, these things are already being echoed in schools nationwide as a reference early on friday. we told about the marxist indoctrination happening at the elite stoneridge school in bethesda, maryland. public schools though, they are just as bad.

take for example nearby langley high school in the affluent mclean, virginia, suburb of d.c. students have been learning from home for the better part of year and yet this is how principal kim greer welcomed them back to campus. despite the jubilation we feel about returning to in person learning, the pandemic has been framed by social strife. one year ago our country supported the black lives matter movement and names were members such as breonna taylor and george floyd. okay. the whole country supported black lives matter? wow, okay. if students were also asked to complete an online survey written by three langley teachers. i have asked someone of a different race where they are from. checkbox yes or no. in response to blm and stop asian hate, i have wondered what about other racial groups? shouldn't we care about them as well? again, yes or no.

i believe that privilege based on skin color is a myth. again, that's a "yes" or "no." i have referred to the coronavirus as the china virus before. i have tried speaking english with an accent, for example southern u.s., british, australian, et cetera. yes or no. and this one, this is my favorite. i think my asian peers are really good at math. apparently saying yes to that is really bad. at the end of the survey, the students are instructed that if they answered yes to any of those questions, that could be considered a micro-aggression. if that wasn't bad enough, students were then told to watch videos from something called hashtag let's talk bias. >> i was protesting a couple days ago downtown and this black man stopped me because we were holding a black lives matter sign and he's like it starts

with you guys, put your bodies in front of us, you know, and just like stand up. i am very androgynous in the way that i dress and express myself and i've gotten threatening looks and those vibes. i know what you're saying where it's hard to explain to people what you're talking about. they are afraid of what they don't know so them trying to figure me out, is she a boy, is she a girl -- >> i identify as transgender nonconforming. i basically wake up at every single day is a little gender reveal party to myself. when i would go to work and have to wear uniform with a tie i would purposefully find one or two things to express my gender. >> there's a bunch of black people getting beat up, killed, choked out, and abused that you will never see because it wasn't taped. but this is been going on for decades. we've been being beaten and locked up for no reason. >> laura: all of this is a product of schools moving towards cultural authenticity and education in the biden demonstration is going all in.

see her to hear words like allyship, something the left claims white children especially need to do. it's described in the langley literature as a lifelong process in which people with privilege and power work to develop empathy toward another marginalized groups challenges or issues. look, empathy is always good, across the board. but here it's weaponized. nondiverse students are being taught to remain silent. don't complain, certainly don't complain if you lose out on jobs, scholarships, or college admissions when diversity, equity, and inclusion is at stake. join the fight in the streets and maybe, just maybe, you'll get some social justice credit on your resume. unless parents start getting really vocal and saying no, you will not subject my kids to racial litmus tests, we are going to continue to see the situation deteriorate in our schools and ultimately that ends up spilling out into the

streets. i will end with one of my favorite quotes about the types of people pushing this nonsense, our so-called intelligentsia. a great majority of the so-called educated people do not think logically and scientifically. even the press, the classroom, the platform in the pulpit in many instances do not give us objective and unbiased truths. the man who said that was martin luther king jr. what an objective, unbiased truth be nice right about now? and that's the angle. >> here's the problem with things like critical race theory that they are peddling. they're basically saying all our institutions are bankrupt in their illegitimate. okay, so how do you have a society if everything in their society is a legitimate? so it's a very harmful ideology and i would say really a race bait version of a marxist type

ideology, so we banned it in our schools here in florida. we're not going to put any taxpayer dollars to critical race theory and we want to treat people as individuals, not as members of groups. >> laura: this question of our children being taught -- this is a systemically racist country, the founding documents are imbued with racist ideology, the 1619 project, this is all being force fed to our kids at the youngest ages through high school. quickly. >> let's be clear, america is the most exceptional nation in the history of the entire world. [scattered applause] we are working on curriculum program in our session right now to teach kids about the founding documents, the constitution, the bill of rights, the federalist papers so students can learn what did make america the greatest nation in the history of the world. >> laura: john from florida has a question about where this mind-set begins. john. >> why is k-12 education,

especially in the early to middle grades permitting or enabling socially questionable curriculums that border on experimenting with our kids and in fact infringe upon a parent's and family's desire to protect and teach their children the best they can. >> laura: governor ricketts. >> we've got this issue in nebraska with regard to what our state board of education has tried to -- with regard to health and sex education standards. starting in kindergarten and teaching things that are age inappropriate, things that are not science, things that are politically sensitive, but some things just parents should teach. you know, talking about in grade school gender fluidity when kids haven't even reached puberty yet and it really is something where we had to -- the state board of education dozens report to me, they are separately elected -- call them out and get parents engaged and they had a hearing

♪ ♪ >> laura: the oxford dictionary defines liberty as freedom to live without too many restrictions from the government or authority. the red state governors next to him on the stage tonight, they understand the meaning of liberty. they understand why it's necessary to have freedom to go to schools, to practice your faith, to worship, to run a business, to choose how you want to act and live. so why do those who espouse those traditional beliefs increasingly find themselves just the subject of ridicule and cancellation times? a lot of people that you chat with, they are like i don't want to say, i don't want to talk about my friend's teacher, my

daughter's teacher, my daughter's coach. i can't speak up. people are afraid. i've never seen anything like i see now in the climate in this country. so to all the people watching across the country, i say don't be afraid. it's your truth. >> don't be afraid, speak up. they are trying to shut us down by intimidation that we need to stand up for what's right and stand up for our rights. where driving free speech on the campuses, talk about the the diversity of training in iowa and we just need to encourage people to step up, do the right thing and fight back. it's worth fighting. >> laura: governor ricketts, when you see people get the platforms for no reason on these big social media companies, i go back to the time that republicans had the house and the senate and they did nothing. they did nothing to rein in big tech. i think they thought they could cozy up to big tech, maybe get some campaign contributions along the way. that didn't work out well. >> no it didn't and when you see compass like facebook actually

editing "the wall street journal" -- "wall street journal," that's been around forever, right? isn't that like a regular mainstream kind of news source? that's a real one, right? and facebook thinks they should edit "the wall street journal"? i think what we have to do is recapture the house and senate the presidency and there has to be regulation on his companies at a federal level because what they are doing is making decisions that impact all of us. if they need to be treated more like the utility that they are acting like. >> laura: charles hart from orlando right here in orlando. >> first off, governor, i'd like to thank you personally for keeping florida free. [scattered applause] the question i would like to ask as many people are beginning to believe that america is no longer exceptional are great, so what can we do to reinvigorate the belief that america is too great for small dreams. >> i think it's a great question i was very disappointed of the 2020 election but i told people when your back is against the

wall, america's respond and i think we are responding here in the state of florida. not only are people coming from all over the country to live here, to visit here, i get correspondence from people in other countries, in europe saying we are now looking to florida as the focal point of the free world because they are suffering under the yoke of lockdowns. we have the ability to lead here. people in florida have responded and people thought the country and even very humbly to see this throughout the world, so i think we're doing it right. i think greg and kim at aldi's governors are doing it right and we will have a resurgence of freedom in this country in 2022. i think it's going to be a great year for us. >> laura: governor reeves, when you look at the economies of all your states -- are not all of the same level but where freedom does ring through all of the difficulty we've lived in and then you hear people have such a negative view of america whether it's on the race question or any other question that we heard the president talk about last night, kids today,

what do they need to learn first and foremost in our public schools about this country? >> it seems like many people in the democrat party, and it's not just the far left, it's many people in the democrat party, are putting down america day in and day out. it's almost as if they want to act as if there is not this thing called the american dream and they are absolutely wrong. america is a great place because anybody regardless of their background has the opportunity to succeed in this country. opportunity is there for any and everyone and i hope that certainly the kids in mississippi understand that and i hope the kids across america understand that as well. >> laura: final thoughts on all of this when we return.
