8:01 am
institute of health said he never rejected the lab leak theory even though emails direct tore collins had been exchanging with dr. fauci appear to dismiss it as conspiracy. here is collins on fox news yesterday. >> there were a lot of conspiracy theories and other ideas floating around at that point. one of them was that actually sars covid 2 had been a bioengineered bioweapon created on purpose by human intervention by the wuhan institute of virology. that doesn't fit with what we know about this particular viral genome. we should be talking about how to put covid-19 behind us not going back to january 2020. right now we don't have any new data. >> harris: here is one example of why those emails could spell trouble for fauci. rand paul says it shows dr. fauci had a moral culpability for the pandemic and fauci is
8:02 am
still refusing to hold china accountable. >> dr. fauci to this day says he still trusts the chinese scientists. i don't think he seems to be aware of the way it works in a communist government. do you think there aren't military generals in the lab as well? do you think some of the scientists aren't also in the communist party and military? i don't think having trust of chinese scientists with gain of function research was very wise. it was so naive we shouldn't have dr. fauci in a position of advising the u.s., the world or anybody else because he is so -- shown such poor decision making. >> harris: we'll get into that with lawrence jones here to weigh in on the controversy. let's begin with rich edson live at the state department. >> republicans are also focus on an email to fauci from the director of the center for disease control and prevention in china. he proposes they work together
8:03 am
to eliminate the virus. fauci replies we'll get through this together. fauci is now responding to critics who say his relationship was too close with chinese officials at a time many in the u.s. government were trying to learn more from china about an evolving pandemic from the country where it began. >> i don't see how they get that from that email. it was sent to me from them. i have always said and will say today to you, john, that i still believe the most likely origin is from an animal species to a human. >> fauci says we don't know for sure the virus jumped from animals and that we have to keep an open mind about the possibility of a lab leak. the united states is calling for another investigation in china to figure out how this pandemic began and whether it accidentally leaked from the
8:04 am
wuhan virology lab. >> i've seen some of the emails. what really matters here is when it mattered most when the chinese were covering this up in early january 2020 dr. fauci would have known the risk this came from the laboratory was real. >> some republicans in congress are calling for dr. fauci to return to the hill and testify. harris. >> harris: thank you very much. i want to bring in lawrence jones, "fox & friends" enterprise reporter. i thought these words mattered from pompeo. when it mattered most and then he described what fauci was doing. the headline in a column for usa today reads how dr. anthony fauci's private comments stack up with what he said in public. is it a problem? >> it's a big problem and we had him on earlier on "fox & friends" and i doubled down
8:05 am
with the secretary and asked him there was a lot of scuffling going on when it came to the president and administration with fauci behind the scenes. i specifically asked the secretary. did you all know some of this stuff behind the scenes? lawrence, i have to be careful. there are sources and methods involved but we knew a lot. i think he teed up a lot of what we know -- knew in the media at fox news but he didn't want to disclose sources and methods. look, the american public is a very forgiving but when it comes to fauci and a lot of these doctors you can't be wrong and arrogant. we knew that there was some speculation, rand paul has talked about the gain of function. we had some questions about the mask wearing. now we have the revelation of these emails saying we probably shouldn't have been using cloth for masks. there were these back and forth calling this a conspiracy in the subject line and still he gets on fox news and denies it.
8:06 am
look, i think there is a lot of covering my rear end going on when it comes to these doctors. now we have the evidence to suggest there was more going on behind the scenes and when people speculated about it, they dismissed us as being crazy. they dismissed rand paul saying he didn't have all the information even though he is a doctor, they were splitting hairs. now we know more. they can't just run away now. >> harris: it was more than being dismissive for some of we journalists they were coming after us and marking our social media as scientific as in sci-fi movie and we were simply asking questions. i want to get to this. science magazine reporting in march of 2020 that a top chinese scientist was warning the united states that not wearing masks was, quote, a big mistake. and we have seen dr. fauci flip-flop on the issue.
8:07 am
watch. >> right now in the united states people should not be walking around with masks. >> you are sure of it? people are listening closely to this. >> right now people should be walking around with a mask. no reason. i think what people don't fully appreciate is putting a mask on yourself is more to prevent you from infecting someone else. and if everybody does that, we're each protecting each other. >> isn't it just theater? you have the vaccine and wearing masks, it isn't theater? >> masks are protective, not theater. >> harris: that messaging felt like theater. lawrence. >> it was. you see the smug and tone that he -- >> harris: how dare you ask me about this. >> i'm the doctor, you are not. don't talk about this. we know now he knew better.
8:08 am
we also know that they were trying to horde the supply as well. it is one thing to tell the american public we don't want you to go and buy the masks because our health professionals need it now. say that. don't lie to us and tell us it doesn't work when you know better. >> harris: every doctor who goes into surgery is masked and gloved up and scrubbing and friends and family that i know who have gone into surgery would say wait, hold on, put a mask on. it is a two-way thing. the patient can't wear a mask so everybody masks up. we know masks work in two directions. anyway. >> they made it political, not us. a lot of talk about who made it political. they made it political by being dishonest to the public. when they came out and said now we need the mask people weren't receptive of the message but no one to blame. they said it was political. americans were running to the stores to get the masks. you couldn't get one because
8:09 am
they were sold out. don't give us the american public made it political. >> harris: as you pointed out part of that there was hoarding going on and we'll look into china's communist government to see how much they vacuumed up of ppe. critical race theory. dad and daughter going viral on tik tok for their messaging about critical race theory in schools. here is what they said. >> i am concerned about efforts to kind of -- >> harris: the fight against far left critical race theory being taught in classrooms got a whole lot louder, lawrence, with that dad and daughter. the top republican in the senate says schools are down playing significant dates in history like 1776 when the declaration of independence was signed. here is senator mcconnell.
8:10 am
>> i am concerned about efforts to kind of downplay significant items in american history. but i don't think the government is any better at prescribing what ought to be taught than the universities themselves. they ought to be open to criticism about what they're doing. >> harris: "wall street journal" op-ed asked should students learn about slavery, lynching, jim crow or the tulsa massacre? yes. should they be taught that systemic racism is defining -- is the defining characteristic of america? no. if the proponents would agree to that distinction there wouldn't be a problem. they won't. thus the state legislative bans. lawrence. >> this is exactly why we're at this point. we have had a lot of transparent conversation with our audience about the importance of history and teaching what happened in america, the good, bad, and the

ugly. the problem is that a lot of stories weren't in our history books. and so now you have the pendulum swinging so far left with crt being taught it is also revisionist history. the best advice i can give to parents it starts in the home. you have to tell the stories at home. you have to gird your children with the education that is needed. even if you try to get it out of the schools it will be taught to them in the culture. i said on "fox & friends" earlier today as a christian my parents told me about god and jesus. when i went to school every day i had professors and teachers that told me that jesus wasn't real. the same thing with hills -- history. you have to prepare your child with the stories so they can combat it when they go into the classroom. >> harris: especially if the conversation is going to go about something hateful. >> exactly. >> harris: you have to have -- they have to have our values as parents before they go into those conversations. i am just curious to know with

the colonial pipeline and ransomware attacks are estimated to cost businesses $6 trillion this year. i talked today with the acting director brandon wales of the cybersecurity agency and he tells me every time a u.s. company pays a ransom it is feeding a problem and just making it more profitable for hackers. >> the white house wants to raise pressure on other countries that may have ransomeware operators operating from their jurisdictions. it is challenging. many times the cyber criminals are operating from countries that aren't doing enough to stop them. they aren't cooperating with u.s. law enforcement. >> they say a new organization falls victim to a ransomeware attack every 11 seconds. today the white house issued a letter telling u.s. companies they have a critical responsibility to crack down on their cyber defenses.

grandmother's home. just over a week ago my grandmother fell ill. i went to puerto rico to see her. my first time in a year because of covid. this is her home. hurricane maria relief hasn't arrived. trump blocked relief money for puerto rico. people are being forced to flee ancestral homes and developers are taking them. however, critics are asking why the congresswoman who makes $174,000 a year and drives a tesla is putting all the blame on the former president when she is capable of sending her grandmother some help and funds. >> you hit the nail on the head. a lesson in think before you twaoe. she is criticizing the trump administration for its handling of hurricane maria and she didn't think she could help her grandmother? one critic says aoc went and bought herself a tesla and grandmother lives in a shack with collapsing ceiling. it never fails with champagne

socialist expect everyone else to make sacrifices while making none for themselves. a florida congressional candidate says you have two apartments and drive a tesla. if your grandmother is living poor you don't help her out. i'm surprised a socialist wouldn't redistribute her money to her grandmother. she said she helps out her family and she was trying to point out a systemic failure but i think this really proves that some people are lying to personal responsibility and think the government should solve all problems. >> harris: i'm more basic girl than that. she made it all about herself. she could have helped people out. my grandmother's place looked like this i want to help other people shine a light on this. instead me, me, me. >> it backfired. >> harris: for anyone who thinks local politics is boring this happened in albuquerque, new mexico. this is all about you.

>> you give this one to me to talk about? this is the video showing a new mexico sheriff who is running for mayor of albuquerque. he was interrupted on stage by a drone that had a let's say an adult toy on it. it is blurred out right there and then shortly after that happened a guy goes up and punches him in the arm or the hand. it was a wild scene in albuquerque, harris. we think things are interesting at capitol hill. >> harris: he had a drone with an ina appropriate yat toy. >> if that happens we may have to blur more things out. >> harris: you have to teach them how to digitalize. carley shimkus. thank you very much. always great to have you on the program. come back any time. thank you for watching "the faulkner focus".
