live in jerusalem, good afternoon. >> reporter: the israeli panama to set to vote tonight and confirm former defense minister natalie bennett to be the prime minister of israel. >> as he spoke today at the knesset bennett was heckled by a number of members who support benjamin netanyahu, netanyahu has been in power 12 years. the prime minister designate bennett will be strong on national security and foreign policy to continue relations with the biden administration in washington. earlier today during this address to lawmakers bennett was not only addressing the people in the knesset but the israeli people. during those remarks and heckling, talking about a number of key policy issues that concern israeli people. one of those having to do with iran and during those are marx reiterated his opposition to the iran nuclear deal. >> translator: israel will not

formed with groups that are anti-benjamin netanyahu. will they get along on things? will they be able to govern? >> reporter: that is the concern for the israeli government that is about to be in office, whether they are able to agree on these key issues, the first time in israeli history, they are part of this coalition, and with a cabinet meeting this could be a deciding factor in a number of decisions including the israeli response to factions inside gaza and treatment from the israeli government for the palestinian people. mike: fascinating time to watch, thanks very much. president biden making a very royal visit just after wrapping up the g7 summit, meeting with queen elizabeth for the first time since becoming president.

government in israel sometime this afternoon what are your thoughts and concerns? >> first thought is we as the united states need to stand with israel regardless who their leader in leadership is. a number at one ally in the middle east, we need to do everything we can to work with the israeli government regardless who their leadership is. i do hope the new leader as he is sworn in is going to stand against iran, the iran nuclear deal, not cave to international pressure like netanyahu comments was his concern. i hope the new leader of israel will stand up against the international pressure to have a deal with the iranian's, the largest, strongest ally in the region, we need to support the israeli government regardless who their leadership is. mike: from the american perspective during this time of transition what should be the message to israel's adversaries from the united states?
10:07 am
>> reporter: the message to israel's adversaries should be the united states will stand with israel regardless who their leader is in that should be unequivocal. what biden is doing, giving $250 million to the palestinians or millions of dollars to gaza, that money will be funneled to hamas, trying to reenter the jcp away with the iranian's, the american government should be standing with israel and standing against their enemies. that is the last thing we should be doing is compromising on these types of policies that could infringe upon israel's homeland, their security, safety because their security and safety affect the united states security and safety. mike: the g7 summit, was it successful? >> reporter: there's a lot of talk but not a lot of action. this upcoming meeting with vladimir putin, he just approved the nordstrom 2 and

gave him a pipeline, what putin wanted. he is canceling pipelines in the united states just after the colonial pipeline was hacked by russians. what exactly is the biden administration doing with the russian government attacking the colonial pipeline and other things? a lot of talk, not a lot of action. we need to put america first like the trump administration did for the last four years and ensuring america is secure and safe from our enemies. mike: how should the president issue a warning to vladimir putin when it comes to the hacking problem of infrastructure and american interests? >> i hope he has a solution and takes leadership. we've seen none of that. we know for a fact the russian agents may not have been -- you can't tell me vladimir putin didn't know this was happening, hacked into the colonial pipeline and shutdown infringing on the united states, the security of the american people. there needs to be action and repercussions for those activities, not a meeting where he is going to talk tough and not take action against the

10:12 am
>> the g7 or what is happening in the middle east but the middle east is a tough neighborhood. mike: what is your assessment of the g7 summit? >> i think it is good in the context of what i just said. this is the way we have always worked since world war ii to build a coalition with nato and our nato partners and the japanese. is powerful when done right. mike: is anticipation about the upcoming meeting with vladimir putin. your thoughts going to the critical meeting? >> i don't disagree with my colleague, have to be forceful. where i disagree is you got to take the time to be thoughtful and strategic, can't just jump in and pound the table. that is my perspective. this is going to be a challenge too and it is fraught with challenges not to be redundant
10:13 am
but there's a great opportunity. you've got to be forceful and make sure putin knows we are united against ukraine and democracy. mike: the recent hacks, is that one of the front burner issues a review? >> absolutely. this is new technology we are trying to implement. i don't think we do it well in the united states. there's going to be a public-private partnership that is more thoughtful and ahead of the people who have taken advantage of the system. mike: what are your concerns about hacks going forward in terms of our economy, our infrastructure? >> a perfect example, you can see criminal elements who may or may not be supported by a foreign government, they are at least knowledgeable affecting our economy and daily lives. throughout the east they can do that across the country if we
