the new york city department of education. we black parents, we have sat back for too long and not do anything about it i personally have to move my child from the district paying $10,000 a year for tuition before this school systems to not work for our communities. every one of the black communities in new york city they are failing. >> i stated before if the schools are going too well basic subject with my son he is not able to understand. that statement is not true at all. brian: michael duncan and kisha ellis together talking about their kids. ainsley: 70% of the students can't pass basic english exam. 81% failed the math part. brian: if you want to help this country, become more equal, give people an equal shot. you go into the schools. especially in needy communities and you build that up and they are not waiting for that to

happen. steve: it's not a needy community per se. the new york city taxpayers. brian: under performing schools. steve: $25,000 per kid. now, here in the new york city area. it is well known the charter schools do so much better. they're graduating kids at double the proficiency. what is it about the charter schools that a lot of people in new york city don't like, particularly the united teacher's union and that is the fact that only 6% of the teachers at the charter schools are unionized. and so the big teachers union is trying to big foot circumstantial the charter essentially youhave got to got s they are not good. if you want your kid to succeed take them some place else. horrifying. >> ainsley: who fails in the long run the children do. steve: we all do. brian: jillian mele is with us now.

ainsley: nick cordero was a star on broad way whose story off the stage captured national attention in the early days of the pandemic. he met his beautiful wife amanda while appearing together in a show on broad way called " bullets over broad way" and then they got married and they had their little son elvis but their happiness was met with tragedy when nick was diagnosed with covid-19, amanda, sharing updates on social media on her husband's condition until the very day he passed away at the age of 41. one year later she's opening up on her spiritual journey through grief and her brand new book called outlive your life" amanda klutz joins us now.

hi. >> hi, good morning. ainsley: you are so beautiful, and i am so sorry that you lost nick, but you are remembering him and you're passing his story on to your son through your book tell us about nick and what happened to him. >> oh, nick was just the man that everybody loved, six foot five, dark hair, dark eyes, a smile that just warmed your heart. he could do anything and un credible actor, an amazing musician and truly just loved life. he always said to me i live such a blessed life and i'll never forget those words. ainsley: wow, april of last year , 2020, he was 41, hospitalized with covid, put into a medical-induced coma, was on a ventilator, septic shock, a blood clot in his right leg, eventually the leg had to be amputated. you got to see him 79 days in and then on july 5, 95 days after being admitted, he passed away. you wrote this book and we found

an excerpt that is just beautiful and our viewers will love it. it says "i said nick, if you're here with us, you're saying this in your head, hassle advice , give me a kiss and just as i finished this thought, elvis turned his tiny body toward me, grabbed my face, and pulled me into a long kiss. chills came over my body, and tears streamed down my face. that's his little lips touched mine. elvis kept kissing me over and over again despite my not saying a word and i laid there sobbing and smiling. why did you write this book? >> i wanted nick to have closure for his story, and i wanted elvis to know his story, and i wanted to just, you know, bring finally the whole story to everyone that followed us, that supported us, that prayed for us i had such an army and i still do to this day, and i want everybody to read this book so that they know the full true story. there's so much of this book that i didn't share at the time
