as police chief, thanks for being here. when we played that clip yesterday and i heard that officer say we are good people in made me sad because i never thought we would get to a point in this country where you have to have officer today in and day out risked their lives for us to stand in a podium and say we are good people. >> she reflected the message of a lot of our officers, dispatch was designed by the men and women of the apartment back in 16 and put in our uniforms in 17 and as lisa said it was never and never will be an image of hate. it is a memorial to police officers who died in the line of duty. >> jillian: and family members of officers who died in the line of duty, it means so much them. talk about the back story of this flag.

police station was a woman came in, a teacher with her 3 children, she made this beautiful blue line flag and presented it to me, find a good place for it, and she brought it to the community. i could tell someone like that this is a message of hate when i know it isn't. it is another reason. we have great support in this community from all our residents, they don't know the controversy is going on with a small group of local citizens going to the council meetings and that is where this all started. jillian: what do you want your community members to know about you, the job you do and the officers in your department?

>> we want everybody to know we have good professional police officers with good hearts and don't want them to get distracted by a small group of people who want to vilify an image that means so much to us, to police officers families. jillian: i never imagined we would be having a conversation like this. what is the thing that upsets you the most about what is going on in this country right now? >> i have been doing this 36 years, the speed at which the anti-police sentiment came about, i think it is driven by these bad videos, don't get me wrong, these are atrocious events on these videos people have seen but there is 56 million police contacts a year and this is just a small, small, minority group of bad officers doing bad things and i think they are getting driven by seeing these videos, the power of the video, 56 million videos that show everybody doing

decision that limits what the ncaa can have on the student-athletes. at the same time we are having a conversation with state and federal legislature as to how much and when athletes should get paid so we are circling july 1st on the calendar were 6 states will be to pay athletes for the first time in our country's history so supreme court decision comes at an interesting time. >> this wasn't the, quote, paying the players case but brett kavanaugh sent a message loud and clear as to how he would rule in that case, quote, the ncaa is not above the law. the ncaa couches its arguments for not being student-athletes, the labels cannot disguise the real become the ncaa business model would be flatly illegal in almost any other industry in america. how perilous is the future of the ncaa as an institution in light of this ruling and that concurrence? >> it has existed for 100 years in the business model has not paid college athletes and it

ends with, quote, it is not above the law, that is a little bit of a veiled threat from the courts that the model is not going to fly, we are not going to accept it. it stands on perilous grounds and in the history of college sports, football and basketball are the big money makers and profit is distributed among other sports. it will be difficult to see how all the sports as we know and love will exist under this model. for student-athletes to get paid. a lot of questions, you will enter a period of the wild wild west how athletes get paid, how schools will distribute that and the ncaa will survive as we know it. all questions left be answered. neil: a lot of global view. we've seen a bipartisan support of paying or assisting student-athletes in some way, shape or form. no 9-0 decision from the supreme court. are you willing to go so far as to say it is part of a larger pushback against our higher education system operates in general?
