quickly to pass legislation that made sure female athletes in sports were protected simply because women need a level playing field to compete against each other. this is a matter of scholarship, competition and leadership in the international olympic committee, i know -- i'm old enough to remember the days of the german democratic republic when women that were doped up to be just like men resetting records that are still in place today and we are seeing the reverse happen, the women are not going to be able to achieve what they could and own their own records. >> competition not very happy about this bills in weightlifter, stated as follows, i understand nothing is as simple following your common sense and there are lots of them practicalities when studying such a rare phenomenon but for athletes the whole thing feels like a bad joke. how much of a slap in the face

is it to the other athletes who literally have trained their entire life for this moment, this is the pinnacle of their sport potentially could be the pinnacle of their life and this happens? >> great point because not only do they compete as olympic athletes but should they middle they have an opportunity for sponsorships and other forms of income seeking opportunity and those are being robbed of them and the international olympic committee is ignoring science. i hope two studies that were published this year from functional morphology, the second journal of sports medicine and it specifically looks at the anatomical and biological differences that do exist in the field of sport and one of these for powerlifting and weightlifting and women cannot compete with men.

todd: more than 70 companies sending a letter to the us senators lawmakers to pass a voting rights bill. jillian: after taking a stand coca-cola and delta were absent from the list, some questioning, their activism hurt their bottom line? professor of economics at kings college here to weigh in, good to see you this morning, thanks for being here. good morning. taking a stand like this in some cases could provide short-term gain but what does it do

long-term for these companies? >> the temptation is to go short-term, all the social media pressure, the media pressure can you might have activist employees saying get on the woke train, get on board this issue but over the longer-term these companies face a problem of growth. if you want to grow your company you need customers of all stripes, not just the hyper woke activists but even those republicans and conservatives, you have to care about if you want to care about your bottom line. michael jordan is famous for saying republicans by sneakers too and he is right. they fly airplanes, they buy soda pop and they work for those companies. they want to think for themselves. if working for a company or buying for a company is all about thinking the way they do you will lose customers.

neil: quote from this letter begins these bills work in contrast to our interests to make it more difficult for americans to have a say in key decisions from healthcare to the economy by limiting our ability to register to vote and cast about early or by mail. voting is a fundamental right in our country and it is up to our elected officials to protect it. that letter definitely on one side of this issue, not the other side. to you by this notion of activism, part of a corporation's mission and not just 100% delivering profits to shareholders? >> i don't think it is part of their mission. these companies are jumping onto these issues because it is the flavor of the moment and they think they can ride that wave but with customers and employees see is a company that says one thing, that they care about these issues but on the other hand they look at what the companies do, they don't see the companies changing their behavior, looks like woke washing, you're trying to look

virtuous, signal virtue but on the inside what are you really about? when you get that dissonance that is what companies turn off, that is where employees turn off. i look at this issue right now and i see companies that are really tempted for short-term gain but sacrificing their long-term integrity. you notice the list of 70 companies we are talking about, not a lot of big consumer brands on that list because those companies are starting to understand this is a game they can't win if they play it and you will see them drop out of it a little bit, stay away from issues they don't have any competence to talk about, let their employees and customers think for themselves on issues like voting rights. jillian: it is hard to change that at some point. interesting to see how that plays out. there are labor shortages across the country and one of the latest affects airlines.

american airlines canceled 303 flights over the weekend, there are labor shortages all across the country and you say one of the things we need to do is get government out of the way. how do we do that? >> they got to stop handing out free money to keep people on the sidelines. i was just at the airport yesterday. i heard some grumbling customers in the airport, they were concerned about these canceled flights but these airlines can't get their vendors, to get planes in the air. you can't get employees to fly flights, and keeping people on the sidelines, we need people back at work, the good news is demand is great, people get out and travel again but governments have to get out of the way, the whole pandemic has been a story of government in the way. we see that with prices.

biden administration and global partners are giving china a stark choice. >> either they will allow in a responsible way investigators to do the real work of figuring out where this came from or they will face isolation in the international community. jillian: the warnings to china come after president biden announced the us intelligence community had, quote, coalesced around two likely scenarios for the origins of covid 19. some intelligence officials believe the virus emerged from human contact with an infected animal. others believe it stemmed from a laboratory incident. the president asked intelligence officials to double down on their efforts of analyzing information and data to bring the us closer to a definitive conclusion on how and where the novel coronavirus originated. neil: thank you very much. jillian: the biden administration facing criticism for issuing to china over covid investigations.

china did their own investigation, there is nothing to see here. we need to demand action by china and there needs to be results if they don't act and the results should be sanctions against chinese health officials against those who have gone after scientists, those who persecuted scientists and citizen journalists who tried to lay open what happened at the wuhan lab. this back and forth talk to be over with. we need strong, decisive action against china if they do not allow an open independent investigation. jillian: you and the least of phonic introduce the world deserves to know act. can you tell me about this? seems like at this point isn't it shocking there are people who aren't wanting to demand answers as to what happened and how this virus was able to affect and kill so many people throughout the country and this world?

>> exactly. after 600,000 deaths in the united states, 3.4 million worldwide, everybody out to be in favor of making sure we hold china accountable. i believe we need to sanction individuals in the communist party there for the actions they didn't take to default what happened. we want to make sure we prevent dollars going from us universities and institutions to the chinese national health commission. make sure i know where every penny from the united states went to the national health commission in china for this game of function research at the wuhan lab. we need to know these things and stop the dollars that could be going now to those efforts and understand where those dollars went for the gain of function research that possibly led to the escape of this virus. >> they need answers.

meanwhile the vice president begins a new role promoting the president's child tax credit as pressure mounts on biden to replace kamala harris as leading immigration person at the us-mexico border. i am curious, all of her roles at this point, a lot of people are arguing she hasn't gone to visit the southern border yet, she's not doing that so why keep adding to the list if it seems a lot of people in this country aren't happy with the job she is doing in some of these jobs? >> she hasn't done things necessary to address the border crisis. i would argue she and the president created that crisis by attracting folks here, offering taxpayer-funded healthcare, taking away the other incentives that actually made the system work and that is the efforts to make sure we are securing the

border. making sure the other elements of trump administration policy, remain in mexico policy, asylum agreements, they terminate all those. they are going to catch and release. i don't believe any of that shows this is a successful effort to address the border crisis. if you haven't completed an assignment why would you be given other assignments. seems like to me she needs to focus on things before her and this border crisis is only getting worse. why would you at other things to the list of her efforts. instead of saying no focus on the border crisis, get that done. as soon as she can successfully resolve it which she is not, she hasn't even visited the border. that should be job one to address this crisis. jillian: she said she is going to, we don't know when she will but we will wait and see. thank you for your time. have a good day. neil: one of georgia's hospital

systems hit with iran somewhere attack. jillian: shell casone joins us with the latest. >> reporter: good morning. this one day after president biden met with vladimir putin to discuss cyber attacks and ws target was hit, saint joseph's, one of the largest hospitals in savanna, georgia hit with iran somewhere attack. the hospital said you may have heard about cyber facility incident involving the computer systems today. we are investigating the scope of this to determine personal or health information is involved in this incident. we will notify those individuals. doctors and nurses using paperwork, the hospital works to restore the computer systems some patients may be notified some surgeries may have to be moved. remember, putin at the summit said it wasn't us. it was us cyberspace, that is where this is coming from.
