steve, brian, ainsley, back to you. steve: so steve, they say that they think they got everybody out who was alive, so now, it just becomes a recovery effort, right? reporter: it's a horrible quote by the mayor of surfside, who said the dogs didn't get any hits or hear anything, the only thing we can hear is fire rescue , and we're not seeing fire rescue workers on that building itself. it's really a tragic scene if you look in the upper right corner you can see a bunk bed there, just hanging by the edge, so the death toll will probably take days to figure out. right now they are saying at least two dead but we expect that number to rise dramatically when they start to go through the rubble. ainsley: one lady said one of the individuals that died was a child. have you heard that? >> we haven't heard that. we've been seeing stretchers come out but they aren't carrying any people so it looks like they said it's a fluid search and rescue operation but it looks like that has paused
5:52 am
for now. we're seeing fire rescue, with stretchers but we're not seeing active digging going on right now. there's still one man in a hard hat i can see , it's a misleading picture because it's not just the edge of this building but the entire section that extended out into the beach and it's probably about 40 feet high of pure rubble, what was once at 1:30 in the morning condominium stacked on top of each other now on the beach in surfside, florida. steve: steve thank you very much live reports throughout the day. meanwhile, we're going to switch gears to something completely different. we've been talking about this this morning. country singer hardy helping a navy service member returning from deployment to surprise his family with an epic on-stage reunion. >> [applause] >> richard kelly, apparently he's been overseas for like 400 days and we have made his family think they've won like a vip thing where they get to hang outback stage and they are
5:53 am
going to surprise him on stage. >> [applause] ainsley: isn't that great? hardy joins us live, along with that navy verse member richard kelly good morning to both of you. >> hey, good morning. ainsley: such a cool story, hardy. richard i'll start with you how did you feel when all this happened? >> i was actually super nervous i couldn't even stand still, and i had so many emotions i can't even explain it. steve: when you saw your family what went through your mind? what are they doing at the same concert? >> [laughter] it was, yeah, we bought these tickets a while back and once i found out when i was coming home , it was a long shot, i reached out and then it was all from there. brian: hardy how did you find out about all of this and what did it mean to you to be able to execute it the way you did? >> well ricky actually had try to contact me through instagram
5:54 am
and my messages and these days i get a lot so sometimes some of them fall through the cracks so thank god, he actually contacted my girlfriend and she saw this message and that he wanted to do the whole thing, surprise his family and all that, and so she came to me and she said hey, this guy sent me this message and i really think you should do this and there was never any doubt. i called my man ager and said if we can figure out a way to make this work let's do it. steve: sure. >> and we did. steve: hardy, at the end of the song you were singing, your song "give heaven some hell" you gave a speech about the military we don't have it on tape but what essentially was your message? >> we just say every single night when i say we i speak for my band, that we just use that as a moment to say that everybody on stage is a huge supporter of our united states military and we just thank anybody for their service, it's just something that i want to do
5:55 am
and something that i want to make sure my fans know that that's something we stand for and we use that as a moment to do it. ainsley: richard you've been gone for a year and we've experienced a lot in america over the last year and you've been fighting for our country. you're back now, we're so glad you are safely. what do you say, what's your message? why is america important? what did you miss most? why do you love this country so much? >> i mean, that's a hard question. you once you come back you have a whole new appreciation from overseas like i called my mom and i told her, i said i can't believe how much green i'm see ing like the tree, the grass, the clouds it's unbelievable how much you appreciate it once you come back from overseas. brian: and hardy you've got a big crowd that's another thing about america, we're beating the pandemic getting vaccinated. what was it like to be in front of that crowd? >> oh, it's crazy right now, for a lot of different reasons. one, you know, obviously as the
5:56 am
crowds get bigger, it's that feeling gets weird because its been so long since we've seen that, and man, the energy is just super high right now because everybody is dying to get out and go to stuff like this , and just super thankful and taking some getting used to again. steve: i bet. all right, richard kelly, thank you very much for joining us today and thanks for your service and please thank for family for showing up and hardy you're a good man. ainsley: richard thank you for your service. go have a pizza and some beer. brian: special thanks to your girlfriend. ainsley: that's right. steve: we're stepping aside, back in a minute you're watching "fox & friends."
