outside their home, the high-powered patriarch who found them makes a move to find their killer. >> and emily. >> chaos at a day one of tour de france. cyclists crash into each other a short distance from the start of the first stage, and you won't belief what caused it. -- what caused it. we have that incredible video. >> first to a fox news aall right, rescue crews in florida racing against the crock in a desperate -- clock in a desperate search for survivors in the collapsed condo building in florida. at least four people are dead, and no survivors were founded today. now we're just beginning to learn about structural problems with the building that inspectors warned about in 2018. systemically, the water on the pool deck. the engineer wrote, quote: failure to replace waterproofing in the near future will causes the extent of the concrete deterioration to expand expo e

9/11,ly. the mayor in surfside is worried about the sister building, the residents are wondering if it's safe to be inside. >> the identical building and the same plans. i can't tell less residents -- i can't answer their question when they ask me, is the building safe. i can't answer that question. we need to be able to get the answer to the questions so we can. >> guys, tragic images all day long we have seen of the rescue, search and rescue teams trying to battle a fire in that building as well as some flooding underneath. it is unbelievable. there have been no survivors reported to be found today, 159 unaccounted for. the good news, 127 have been accounted for. you're looking live now at our aerial shot of that building.

unbelievable destruction. emily, let's go to you first. what are your thoughts? >> thanks, griff. just the amount of this tragedy really cannot be overstated. the city commissioner recently said it may take up to weeks for them to actually ascertain the death toll as well as the injuries there. and is we can see the magnitude and, frankly, those pictures don't do it justice. i'm reminded of some community involvement rescue operations in mar run county that i was a part of, and nothing can prepare you. no amount of training can prepare you for that kind of magnitude. as you reported, griff, these guys are battling the elements, a fire in the building, extreme weather, and the mayor told us last week that, indeed, while it's, quote, too soon to start addressing now to 2350 that we're still in triage the other building, the risk to residents there, he said, quote, we cannot rule it out and must start to explore that possibility. >> tyrus, the other part of this

story is the emotional toll on the families who don't know if their loved ones are okay. that part of it is just heart-wrenching. >> yeah. all -- and my thoughts and prayers go out to the families that are going through this. and as we know, as we've seen, when you think about back to 9/11, those rumbles, those rubbles, those piles basically end up becoming offenses with the heat. -- to ovens. the clock becomes your worst enemy because every hour, every second in some cases, people underneath that, it's less chance for positive outcome. i think we're really just tipping the iceberg in terms of the heartbreak we're about to see. and i hope everyone in the surrounding area evacuates. i mean, if your building's within eye shot of that area, i would strongly be like it's time to move out for a while until they can look at the buildings around and make sure it's safe. why even speculate. >> and, abby, tyrus brings up a good point. do you evacuate or not if your

in a neighbor -- you're in a neighboring building? >> yeah, this building does have a sister building, is so if this building, you know, experienced this, could it potentially happen to another one? and i, i echo what tyrus said. our thoughts and prayers go out to everyone affected by this. we, of course, want everyone to be found safely, and i do want to turn the attention also to this search and rescue team. these tour fighters have been working -- firefighters have been working day in, day out. the conditions are really tough for them. they're three deep in water, they're entering a structurally compromised building, and on top of that, these little fires are popping up everywhere. they cannot find the source of it. and, of course, we're thinking about the firefighters as the air quality also gets worse. >> and for an update on the surgery and rescue effort, let's turn to steve harrigan who's live for us in surfside. good evening, steve. >> reporter: good evening, griff. initially it was search and

rescue teams, urban teams from the miami area racing in to try and save who they could, more than 30 rescues overnight on thursday. then they've been joined by teams across the country, even some international teams as well. a group from israel coming to help, they're using dogs, cameras, listening devices, and as you mentioned, the conditions are challenging. part of that building is collapsed, more could collapse at any moment, and there are a number of fires deep in the rubble that have been very hard to put out. here's governor desantis on some of those challenges the rescuers are facing. >> very challenging circumstance, and they're doing the best that they can. and, you know, just pray for the folks who were impacted either directly or the families. it's a really, really difficult time right now. >> reporter: the latest numbers, 127 people have been accounted for, 159 people are still missing and just 4 confirmed dead.

that number could change. right now they are still determined, this is a surgery and rescue operation. they -- search and rescue operation. they haven't had any signals all a day, but they think it's possible, they hope, and they're going to keep at it. griff, back to you. griff griff steve harrigan in surfside, thank you very much. guys, you know, as we learn more about this, that report from 2018, we've learned that the building inspector was actually some 14 hours earlier on that building. and another quote from that survey report said this: the main issue with this building structure is that the entrance drive pool deck planter waterproofing is laid on a flat surface. the water sutt on the waterproofing until it evaporates. the replacement will be extremely expensive. abby, what do you headache when you hear some of -- make when you hear some of these developments about perhaps this was preventable? >> yeah. i think this just sends a message that if there's any

issue with a building, especially structurally, you these to address it right away. if this truly did happen in 2018, it's now 2021. to that long on something that serious results in something like this, and what really struck me is you don't hear of this happening in a first world cub. you hear -- country. you hear about how these buildings we have here are automobile to stand up through storms and earthquakes, things like that. so it really is tragic. and just a quick comment, griff, what i was talking about before with all of a the search and rescue teams is the air quality's getting so bad that they're going to have to go on these self-contained breathing apparatuses, and i called a friend in the fire department out in california, a true hero, and he said it limits your visibility in. you can't see necessarily peripherally. so if you're looking for victims, it makes it a lot tougher. it also adds a lot of weight, and you have to get out faster because you're not able to

breathe as long because you're at the mercy of the air tank. so, you know, a lot to consider when you're thinking about this search and rescue effort and, of course, we're just hoping and praying for a all of the victims to be found. >> that's a great point, abby. and, tyrus, you were a wrestler, you're a strong guy. but yet if you're standing outside this building, you can't go in yourself. you've got to let the professionals get in there and even amongst the professionals who are strong and tough minnesota and women, they've got -- men and women, they've got to come to the reality of what we're looking at. this image, you can see this is unbelievable destruction. >> i mean, well, first of all, this is tons, tons of twisted metal and steel. we've got gases, we've got fires, you've got the slippery, the footing's probably terrible at the same time. you have frantic men and women even with training. you can't train for necessarily these types of situations. so, you know, everyone wants to help out, everyone wants to do the best they can because that's just human nature.

that's what america is all about. we all, you know, certain ones of us in this country who literally will put their own lives on the line to try to attempt to save somebody else. the bigger issue to me is when we look at 2018, when you look at the recommendation that they need to complete rehaul and needs to be completely redone and, yes, it's going to be expensive, this is criminal to me that you would ignore manager like this for this long because, well, it just doesn't happen, you know? when things like this happen, you look at managements and the companies that own this stuff, and people pay a lot of rent and they pay a lot to love in these types of buildings -- live in these tubes of buildings. beingty's the world here, it pains my heart to think that they were short-changed like this for a horrible result, and this was completely preventable. >> emily, we're almost out of time on this block, but i do want to get your thoughts as a lawyer. we can expect lawsuits. >> absolutely. and to pickup where tyrus left

off, there's a negligence standard that actually does rise to the level of criminal prosecution. we saw that, remember, in the ghost ship fire oakland, california, where the owner-operator was found criminally negligent at operating this, it was like a warehouse, but he operated it as an apartment building. multiple people died in a fire that they deemed preventable. nothing is more percentagic than learning that -- tragic than learning that a tragedy was preventable. and a final thought on what abby was saying about the rescue team, that's where the sensitivity of the equipment and the dogs come into play. is so as humans are limited by the oxygen and the weather conditions, the rescue equipment is so sensitive, it can pick up a heartbeat, breathing from someone who is unconscious, and those dogs are such assets, they are such force multiplierses. so i'm keeping my hopes and prayers alive that we will, indeed, find more survivors there. >> we will, indeed. and we'll follow this story and

♪♪ he's a pinball wizard, there has to be a twist -- ♪ the pinball wizard -- >> welcome back to "the big saturday show." weeks after a mother and her 22-year-old son were found dead outside their south carolina estate, their high profile family is now offering a $100,000 award for information leading to the arrest of their killer. maggie and paul murdoch both suffered gunshot wounds. when announcing the reward, quote: now is the time to bring justice for maggie and paul. i'm going to go to my friendly neighborhood lawyer on this one. 'emly, help me out -- emily, help me out. where do we begin with this situation? >> you're so right, tyrus. the more that we learn, the more

that is up covered and, frankly, it's starting to read like some type of legal action movie, but this is real people. now, for eight decades this family have operated, frankly, a legal dynasty where they've been successive prosecutors of the five surrounding counties comprised of over 3,000 square miles while also operating a high-powered law firm, and we're starting to learn there have been a slew of suspicious deaths surrounding that family for some time. most young known is that poor young woman, mallory beech, who died when the now-deceased son, paul, was driving a boat under the influence. he was set to go to trial for that death, and that night resulted in him being charged with three separate felonies. we're starting to learn that he had this alter ego -- >> timmy. >> -- that when he would get drunk, it would come out and they would say, oh, here's

timmy, time to get out of his way. he slapped his girlfriend in front of his best friend, this is according to testimony there in court. we also have learned of a housekeeper that died in, quote, a trip and fall at the home that the family settled with her and her family. and we also know that a 19-year-old boy named steven smith who was found if dead of grew many injuries close to the family property, that case was initially rule a hit and run, and now we're learning it will be reopened to which the deceased's mother said i have been waiting for this for over 2,174 days. i think the bottom line, tyrus, is that there in that small community everyone sort of reveers and potentially fears the family, and none is left untouched in some way by the family and the sort of grip they've had on that county. but as a former south carolina detective said, quote, when you get so used to controlling the narrative and everyone around you, he said, you're not prepared for this kind of scrutiny from the outside. so i think we're going to learn

a whole lot more that might put this family square in the sights of suspicion. >> you know, speak of scrutiny, griff, as an investigative journalist, you've got insight too the, right in. >> well, i was there on tuesday and wednesday, and it was actually the 2015 case you mentioned, emily, was steven smith. it was ruled a hit and run. exclusively to the former state trooper todd projector who investigated that death -- proctor, and he says everything he saw pointed to not a hit and run but, rather, murder. he said the body was laid in the road in a way that looked to be a cover-up in hopes that a car would hit it. and he said in his reporting, the murdach name came up more than 40 times, and he sought to speak to members of the family, but they refused to cooperate. why is it tied to this double murder on june 7th? we don't know, but the state law

enforcement division as they're known, south carolina's fbi, told me that, quote, based on information gathered in this current investigation led them to open the investigation again into 2015. so a whole lot of intreg, -- intrigue. >> now, abby, i need you the channel your inner nancy grace here. i think we've got to start or where they speak out, and i want to get your gut feeling on this whole debacle. >> the person that did this is out there, and there's information however big or however small it is. finish. >> yeah. well -- >> all right. i'm done listening. >> i'm not as tough as nancy grace, so i'll keep my answer quick because i think emily and griff pretty much covered everything. it's important to remember as we search for answers, there are a lot of people involved in this

murder and, of course, the past cases that we brought up earlier. so it's important to remember that, you know, we have to remain respectful of the families while also searching for answers. and like you guys said, this is a very intriguing story. people are searching for those answers just because it does have to do with an influential family that dates back to 101 years ago. so a lot of twists and turns s and we'll see what happens. >> a lot of -- where east jessica fletcher when you need her? ♪ >> welcome back to "the big saturday show." vice president kamala harris heads home to los angeles after a brief border visit. peter doocy confronting the vp about waiting more than three months to visit. take a listen. >> how did you decide that right now was the right time to make your first trip to the border? >> well, it's not my first trip. i've been to the border many times. i said back in march i was going to come to the border, so this was not a new plan. [laughter] >> now, a new poll shows americans don't think harris is doing well responding to the crisis. 44% think she is doing a bad job. the vice president also blamed president trump, if last administration, for the crisis at the border. take another listen. >> as you know, we inherited a tough situation. in fact, right here in el paso was the launch of the child separation policy. we have to look at a system where people have been housed in

inhumane conditions over the last many years. in five months we've made progress, but there's still much more work to be done. >> and the border crisis shows no sign of slowing down. border encounters are up nearly 930,000 for this fiscal year. now, guys, a lot to discuss here with this trip to the border. griff, i'm going to get to you in a second because you've spent a lot of time down this, but first, emily, i want to go back to you just to go back to what kamala harris said about making a lot of progress. i'm just curious, in your opinion, what progress do you think has been made in the border crisis? >> i mean, i have no idea because, frankly, to the rest of us, it doesn't look like progress at all. i think the overarching approach is while she calls these policies compassionate, they're cruel. we are seeing a host of migrants and migrant children being kept in devastating conditions, and the administration just flushes them out throughout the system and claims they're being taken

care of, but really they're just being put into more deplorable conditions. we've got attorney generals and district attorneys raising concerns about emergency shelters that don't have to have the same licensure or standards as the normal conditions do. we have migrant churn on suicide watch -- children on suicide watch, and yet we're hearing from this administration all is fine, everything's well because she went on a visit and if seems to have checked a box. unfortunately, i think this trip was, frankly, just for pr so she can get the media off her back that kept asking when are you going the go. >> 28 people on that suicide watch list as well, and they're starting to have to take pencils away from these children which is so tragic. griff, i want to go to you, and you have the rest of the show to talk about this, because you have a lot of information. paso where they're up 250 percent. still a significant number, but what was vice president harris mussing by going to el paso rather than rio grande valley? this. >> well, let me just say this, abby, i'm leaving early monday morning going back to the rio grande valley. be there all week. madam vice president, i will show you what you these to see. in the last 24 hours, or there were the northern triangle folks from guatemala, el salvador and honduras, the root causes that she went to go and try and solve when she went to guatemala. in the el paso e, the majority of migrants there are coming from mexico. so good for her to make the first stop to go down to el paso and blame the trump administration for the problems that this administration has now. if you talk to the border patrol agents at any corner of the 2,000-mile southwest border,

they'll tell you it is the administration's message that they are more welcoming, that the border is open. she needs to see in mcallen, texas, the image you're looking at right there, the thousands that stream across the border, that area, on every day. and, you know, look, i don't know why she didn't go to rgv first. maybe she just needed a stop to get to the border before president trump. but after president trump goes there on wednesday, the 30th, she's going to have more pressure than she may have temporarily aleveed on her visiting the reel problem. >> griff, quick follow-up because you brought up a valid point that she went to, you know, el paso where the majority of migrants are coming from mexico. you actually rode the train that goes from central america to that point. tell me quickly about that train and what with it does. >> it's called the beast, and it goes from southern mexico all the way to the u.s. border, and many of them ride it because they don't want to walk it. in 2019 i went all the way down

to honduras because the mainstream media was saying these caravans coming were a myth and it wasn't legit, so fox sent me all the way to make the entire trek. now, they can shave off 2-3,000 miles by taking that train. they're jumping on that train, but no one's talking about it. they're jumping on buses, and the cartels, unlike in 2019, this time with a more welcoming administration, the cartels are profiting. every time you see apprehensions up 400% in the rgv, that also means cartels are profiting 400%, 300% because they are controlling every single person that comes across that border. >> yeah, tyrus, i do want to get to you quickly, but we do have this sound from representative veronica escobar, and she called el paso the new ellis island. i want to get your thoughts on the other side.

they didn't expect so much backlash from the american people. she's down there reluctantly. of course she's not going to go where things are really travissic and you can see it. why would she do that? she would literally go as far, you know, she's got to go to one place, take a photo op, what are you talking about? everything's fine. so this is good, old-fashioned politicking and and, unfortunately for sex trafficking, the drug car tell, they've got fresh mules. here's the real sad part, the luck are key ones are the ones who are getting arrested, getting what we call horrible conditions because there is no relief coming for those who are getting across the border and then have to fall into prosecution. it's usually really young girls and boys and that's the sad part. that stuff wasn't happening because of the fear of president trump and the misstate. we were watching our borders. now they think good old uncle

finally, some good newsed today. the declassified pentagon report revealing that the united states has no idea what the 140 craft spot by american forces are, but they are ruling out aliens. a portion of the report reads: uap posing hazard to safety of flight and could pose a broader danger in some instances represent sophisticated collection against u.s. military activities by a foreign government or demonstrate a breakthrough aerospace technology by a potential adversary. missing from that quote, guys, was extra dress teal -- extraterrestrial, aliens, that sort of thing. the unclassified report, i have it here. >> look at that. >> unclassified. there is a classified part of this, ask we don't know what that is, so let's just go right around. emily, i'll start with you. do you believe or not? >> okay. first of all, yes, i believe.

world champion who was brought down in that first scratch. griff, i know you are an avid bicyclist. sports journalist are saying this is the worst crash that has ever happened at the tour de france before. >> it is indeed. full december closure, i follow it every year. but this was caused because for the first time the fans can come out. so in france this is like our super bowl or our world series. so people were glad that people came out, but fans do try and get caught on camera and pose for the cameras. in this case this idiot is holding a sign that says in french and german a combination of go, grandpa/grandma. and you saw tony martin, a seasoned rider for the germans, just going down, and it happened right out of the gate.
