8:04 am
the mayor of chicago has said, there are several reasons why this is happening. she says one of them is that there is neighboring states like wisconsin and iowa where criminals are going across because of the lax gun laws and bringing the guns to chicago. that's the reason why. she can't explain that they don't have the same crimes that are terrorizing people in chicago. she says it's racism. she's being criticized for this because of racism and sexism. what is racist and sexist and in particular racist is not providing black and brown people on poor people with the safety and security they need to pursue their dreams to go to work and keep their children safe. they are living in terror. as mike tobin reported, there are lots of babies and children involved in these the statistics.
8:05 am
>> the problem is not just limited to civilians. seven police officers were hurt in the major cities. one was shot while responding to a parking dispute. this is a real problem. >> it's horrific. this is why i wrote last week saying we need to fund to the police. they need more resources. that is why i was applauding president biden with the attorney general, putting more resources, putting more resources behind, getting jobs when we know violent spikes more which is even a horrifying thing to think about. the crime rate is likely to go up as we move into july and august. were there tackling dealers. we need to do more, the administration will be doing more, democratic mayors need to do more.
8:06 am
to rachel's point, people are living in terror in these cities. it's all over the place. >> these are directs results of policies. there are three reasons why this happened. there are a lot of d.a.'s that are funded, just letting criminals off. they ran on it and they're doing it, we have this defund the police mentality. democrats, activists, implemented by mayors like mayor lightfoot. the third are social policies that are breaking down the family, especially that black family, discouraging family formation. we know the damage that's being done by the unions to which the democratic party is beholden to, relegating these children or sentencing them to really
