>> emily: bullets flying again in chicago. just as president biden visited the area, but largely ignored the massive crime wave in that blue-led city, when that included the shooting of a police officer and two federal agents. and this as a young victim of the senseless violence, a college student hit by a stray bullet, is laid to rest today. this is "outnumbered." i'm emily compagno. here today, my cost, kayleigh mcenany. sox's correspondent,
9:01 am
gillian turner. host of "no interruption," tomi lahren, and senior editor of ""the federalist,"" chris bedford. the crime stats are stunning, with three people killed in 19 wounded in shootings just yesterday alone. the explosion of gun balance rocking chicago that has already taken the lives of a 19-year-old national guard soldier who dreamed of one day becoming a police officer. he would have turned 20 tomorrow. and max lewis, a college student left paralyzed from the neck down who used his eyes to signal he wanted to be taken off life support. his funeral is today. so you would think the president would mention something about all this during the speech he gave just an hour outside of chicago, but you would be wrong. he mentioned free college, the climate crisis, and even touted l.e.d. light bulbs, but not one word about the rise in crime.
9:02 am
not one word about the children killed. not one word about max lewis or chris carbajal. chris bedford, welcome to you. what is your perspective? >> chris: this is such a sad time in chicago, and really across the country, to seal an order completely breaking down. that's not just because of some massive surge and people being psychopaths come of that of policies that enable it, whether school is shot or nations being undermined or budgets being cut or district attorneys not being charges along. this is such a sad thing, every single parent is so thrilled to send their son to the university of chicago, or daughter. it's a nice place. he should be graduating from school first instead of being buried today. no parent should have to bury their child. any parent should be incredibly proud to have a teenager who wants to be a police officer and is
9:03 am
butinstead they're planning a funeral for him. this is horrible, there's 150 people shot, the most violent weekend in chicago this year, which has been a massive spike, and so far the president has barely said anything because he's got nothing to say. as one oakland city councilmember called it, the rise in crime recently road bumps to some kind of utopia there trying to create. >> emily: tomi, how can the road bumps be the loss of life, the loss of a family member, of a loved one, of a 1-month-old, as they are learning, and as the crime wave continues spiking in chicago? a community leader, the executive director was on this network earlier today. why is he meeting with the mayor has no plan for the violence? he says we do. the community leaders have a plan to end the violence, but the president won't meet with them. >> tomi: and actually quite surprised that lori lightfoot

met with president biden, because he is white, and we know her feelings on meeting and talking with people of the white race. it's just like the border. those are in charge, especially up to the office of the president, they don't want to acknowledge the problems going on. if you don't acknowledge them, you don't have to solve them. here's the problem they're going to have. although not everyone lives in aboard a state or community, when you have lawlessness spanning across the nation, it might not be something you have to talk about in the headlines, in the media, at a press conference, in a speech, but americans seeing it on the streets and their carbs in their backyards, it's hard to ignore. the tactics the democrats have in the biden administration has of ignoring it and hoping it'll go away, and somehow their pals in the media can give them cover, it's not going to work. people are seeing it with her own eyes, and as we talk about on this program all the time, lawlessness impacts everybody of every race and every socioeconomic status, of every political affiliation. i believe if it goes unchecked and will be the downfall of the

democratic party going into midterms and going into the next election. even as someone who wants to see things change in '22 and '24 politically, we have to care about human life, politics aside. i want them to wake up before midterms, before 2024, because i want this country to be safe no matter what political ramifications that has. >> emily: and gillian, what is that point? what is that apex? how did we pass it so long ago? when is enough enough, that democrats will wake up and a justice, as tomi says, because every life matters? >> gillian: especially when we learn these gruesome details, emily, about cases like the 1-month-old baby girl in chicago who has hit by some kind of a stray bullet when she was strapped into her car seat, she's now fighting for her life at a local community hospital day. this is a story that particularly got my attention, i think, because it's personal for me. i'm expecting a baby girl in
9:06 am
about a week. my husband and saw the car seat into the car two days ago. it's shocking and actually makes me feel anxious and a little bit sick to even talk about it. but i think it's important to highlight for people at home that infants, newborns, are now and cut in the cross hairs of the epidemic of violence. one thing we know from yesterday that has some value, coming out of that 3-minute long meeting that he had with lori lightfoot on the tarmac, the white house said yesterday that she raised the issue of gun violence with the president, and by way of response when he said to her was the white house is standing up a task force that is going to look at sort of the root cause of gun violence, which they say is stray and rogue dealers, that they are going to focus on cities like chicago and new york. but he really have any words for the mayor or the american public when he spoke an hour later, of

condolence. what about the mother and father of that 1-month-old baby girl? what about the mother and father of the college student who is now been laid to rest? the president wants to be a consoler-in-chief. yesterday was a wonderful opportunity for him to do that in chicago, and i think it was a missed opportunity. >> emily: such a great point. kayleigh, what are your thoughts on that? now he can't even look the country in the eye to offer condolences for newborns being shot. >> kayleigh: that's right. also for the two federal agents and the chicago police officer who were shot, he didn't offer any condolences, he didn't say their names. it's amazing. he made public remarks, he lands in chicago, makes public remarks an hour away, will not say the name of federal officials, police officers. he'll miss. on the tarmac and they'll come in a readout from jen psaki, but he won't say their names.
9:08 am
why? because he would anchor the tea from the police movement in his party. that is my supposition as to why he would publicly say the names. like chris carbajal, you beautiful he told that story, emily, 19-year-old boy about to turn 20 in the national guard. i gofundme up for his funeral expenses. if everyone wants to donate, i just did for coming to air. but we have to acknowledge the 1-month-old, we have to acknowledge chris carbajal. as tomi was saying, they will be political repercussions for not recognizing these victims and not recognizing crime is a major problem in this country. if you look back to the midterms, back in 2020, the presidential election, the republican party did very well in the house and senate. the slimmest majority is what the democrats hold since 1940. why? the answer is that there were ads playing on the airway for defund the police. a grandmother calling as there was an intruder breaking into her home, and the call went
9:09 am
unanswered and they said leave a message, the police will get back to you. that was palpable and it's the reason democrats have such a slim majority, and it's the reason the republicans will take back the house come 2020. >> emily: chris benford, your final thoughts? >> chris: we've done this before, it's not the first time we've had this movement. people don't remember this, but in the 1950s in '62 had among the most liberal punitive laws and the entire western world. new york had less people per capita in prison then sweden despite massive spikes in violence, and massive riots. the results were insane, they were lawlessness, losing our cities. we look up, people like joe biden in the '90s crackdown. they had to bring order back. not only do we know what happens when you don't do this, because we've done it, we know how to fix it because they've done it. for some reason we want to go down that road again. >> emily: it remains to be seen if this administration will do that, but the way things are
