who say they did go into this special session in good faith hoping to get the work done. however, they say it reached a breaking point over this past weekend after they heard hours and hours of opposition to the proposed voting bills but they say the republicans advanced them anyway. so their only option they say was to leave. so at least 51 of the 67 skipped town, which means now under the texas constitution, there would not be a 2/3 majority president for the legislation to be voted on. those lawmakers say they're prepared to stay in d.c. for weeks until the special session here expires. >> we are living right now on borrowed time in texas. and we can't stay here indefinitely to run out the clock to stop republican

or is this a situation that is worth it for the tax paying voters of texas to see the arrests potentially of some democrats when they come back to the state of texas? >> i think the governor saying he will arrest sitting members of his own state legislature is actually an act. the governor calls what they are doing untexan. i call it unamerican. why is the governor and republican state legislature trying to limit access to texans' right to vote? why is this happening all of a sudden? because more democrats are winning and having more seats and taking states seats back and taking congressional seats and senate seats back? when we're talking about an active show. it's really on the governor and why the republican state legislature won't negotiate reasonable and accessible voting laws for texans to vote in their state? >> harris: you know, to hear senator cornyn of the great state of texas, sean, say

texans don't cut and run, that flies in opposition to what crystal says they're trying to accomplish. it could backfire on them. >> first off i didn't hear crystal complain that they did negotiate with hr1. they pick and choose what they want to fight for. this is really simple. we used to have not that long ago one election day where he vote election day. we expanded it to early vote and show up at the ballot box and show your i.d. and vote. now that's not good enough for democrats. they want to make sure that they don't have secure elections that they can actually cheat in elections. they want to do mail-in balloting and campaign operatives show up at your house and collect your ballot. that's ripe for fraud. this isn't about making it harder to vote. it is making it harder to cheat. democrats know if you want to win a state like texas you need rules in place so you can cheat to win the vote. just a quick note. i lived in wisconsin in 2011

surely it is just like normandy. this is not necessarily a good look for democrats in texas or do you like it? >> what's not a good look is the governor and texas state republicans attempting to limit access to voting. i think the democrats in that state -- >> harris: let me push back on the talking point for a second. we heard it before and all due respect i need an answer to the question. specifically private jets and we're looking into who paid for those, if it was texas taxpayers or maybe somebody donated it. we don't know yet. the other issue is the look of they're just leaving their state in style, right? saying they made a sacrifice but were they really? what kind of look is that to you? >> you are focused on the finances. >> harris: i'm focused on the total picture of them. >> i'm focused on the legislature lace they're attempting to pass that would limit access to voters in the state to vote.

they only ever flee the state when they know they will lose because they're in the minority. they know people have rejected them at the ballot box. sean, you said that's coming potentially. >> 100%. it happened in wisconsin. the problem is when you flee you aren't recognizing that you actually lost and the other party has a majority and the right to pass legislation in line with where the majority of the voters are in that state. this is spot on you flee the stay you are a loser and forced to come back at one point and pay the political price. how embarrassing if you get arrested. and brought back to the state capitol, embarrassing. they may. wisconsin, it will happen. >> harris: one thing to make clear here that the caucus in texas, democratic caucus, donor funds, are said to have paid for those flights and so again we will keep our eye on the money. crystal, you think it's not

president biden's border crisis continues to be, how much of a magnet it is and very unsafe conditions for some people crossing in the hot summer. some 150 migrants, most of them children, streaming toward our southern border. brutal heat and other dangers along the way. jonathan serrie is live for us in the border town of la joya, texas. >> you can see some activity behind me. the border patrol vehicles including a bus. right now they are processing the remainder of those migrants who came over earlier this morning approximately 150 migrants walking down this road voluntarily turning themselves in to border patrol agents. more than half of them were children. some of the migrants were so tired from their journey they were sitting in the street. groups represent the humanitarian crisis on the border, increasing numbers of men, women and children fleeing poverty and crime in honduras,

we'll throw some money at it through the covid-19 relief bill. your reaction. >> i have to tell you, it falls short. i'm very disappointed. when you really unpack what was being said. political gamesmanship. we'll throw money and counter the republicans and we are just going to refund the police. when you listen to what was said, they pointed to hiring police to do community relations. here is a couple of things that's missing. how about crime control? how about focusing on the violent criminals who are out perpetuating violence? what about that? let's talk about police morale. that didn't come up. very disappointing not to hear that we won't focus on the men and women who do the work. you don't focus on them nothing is going to change. and then let's talk about the mayoral hopeful. while i agree with him when he

first started talking about priorities were misplaced and we shouldn't focus on gun control and police reform. but yet he comes out of the meeting yesterday as if the issues that were talked about were substantial. roles of police. another way of saying reimagining police, and while those things are great and i support all of that and i certainly support community policing, those are long-range goals. we have got to stop the bleeding now and no one has come up with a plan. we aren't even talking about bail reform or court reform. >> harris: stop the bleeding. it is a violent mess with fights well above 200% in certain categories of violent crime like murder in cities across america. one of the things i thought was missing is the conversation, the real conversation about the actual crime in chicago and many cities. it isn't coming at the hands of cops who are black men it is black men against black and other people of color in their

again i agree with what geraldo is saying but what he left out is the progressive governance. look, police officers are not supported. i don't care if they can find a way. they won't be able to, to hire 2,000 more police officers. the bottom line they don't feel supported and candidly i believe there is depolicing going on. they're pulling back because they don't feel supported. so unless they do that and have an honest conversation about what needs to happen, nothing is going to change. and so they put their heads in the sand and do what? do nothing. then we do this superficial approach to policing, reimagining policing. then one thing they eventually leave out of the conversation, okay, so the moderate democrats are backing off of defunding. what they're not backing off of is ending qualified immunity. ending qualified immunity is nothing more than defunding the police. so when are we going to have an honest conversation?

house democrats, 51 of 57 who fled the state to block voting bill. the remaining members voted 76-4 to have the sergeant-at-arms send for all members who are not present and arrest them if necessary. remember, governor abbott had said those members will indeed be arrested when they return to the state. the absence of those democrats has prevented a vote on the house bill. republicans have the majority there but because there are not enough members present they can't take the vote. we'll bring you more on this breaking news story from austin. when they come back arrests could be awaiting them. a new report sounding the alarm on how ready the u.s. navy is for war. could diversity training be getting in the way? we're live from the pentagon. and this. >> why are we victimizing children with non-science based
