"fox news primetime" hosted by brian kilmeade. he has a morning show, too. >> brian: right. >> bret: it starts in 15 seconds because that's how much i like this show. i wanted to give you extra. >> brian: bret, i have a quote can i throw one out? >> bret: yeah. >> brian: quote from bret baier this is the voice in your head. i will really miss tossing to brian at the end of my show next week. is that true? can you back that up. >> bret: that is true. i will back it up. >> brian: thank, bret. good evening, everyone, this is "fox news primetime." >> brian: i'm brian kilmeade. word is we might be hours away from getting another national mask mandate. last week it happened in los angeles. let's see how they handled it. >> antimaskers. >> great. you guys are real scientists. hey. >> scientists, right? >> why don't you go [inaudible] >> kiss the virus and see what
4:01 pm
happens to you. >> >> brian: i think that's called pushback. we see what happened in los angeles. people are done getting along -- going along to get along. they want the ability to make decisions for themselves, their business, their kids. i got some bad news, the left wing media and democrats aren't just going to give you your freedom back. let you keep your space. they're looking to clamp down. they're looking to lockdown. >> initially in may when the cdc came out with their guidance saying if you are vaccinated you don't need to wear a maverick. first of all they didn't take into account that the honor system was not going to work and
4:02 pm
that unvaccinated people were taking off their masks as well. >> we should be really considering whether schools, workplaces, government agencies ought to be talking about saying hey, if you are coming here, you need to be vaccinated and if you are not, you need to show you got a negative test every single day. >> brian: have abused their right to freedom and personal responsibility. they know exactly who is to blame. i will give you an example. here is a quote from the atlantic magazine. experts list many reasons for the vaccine slump. one big reason stands out. vaccine resistance among conservatives. vehicle call andrural americans. a statement of identity and a test of little. okay. so the conservative trump supporters are the problem. but, don't worry, mika brzezinski has a solution. >> that fire hose of falsehoods has been spewing propaganda and lies for well over a year. and it's time to turn that spigot off. it's timing to deprogram the
4:03 pm
cult leaders. >> okay. fantastic. wait a second. if you look at who is really hesitant about getting the vaccine it's a much more nuanced issue than the left wants you to believe. data shows that black and hispanic population mostly biden supporters are the ones trailing behind in vaccination rate. that's not my point at the end of the day it isn't about who you voted for or which side of the political aisle you are on. it's about freedom to make your own informed decisions about what is best for you about what is best for you your family. this is especially important now because it's seeming more and more likely that the federal government is going to take that freedom away. joining me now a man who has been actually rolling the siren on this for quite some time. he is the author of unreported truth. booklet series alex berenson. where are we headed? >> i'm afraid we are heading towards a dark place, actually. you know, i hoped a couple weeks ago, a few weeks ago that biden administration might just sort of declare victory and go home. but they are -- they do not seem
4:04 pm
interested in doing that you know, the university of california has now told its students not just that they are going to have to be vaccinated but that it expects annual even more frequent booster shots and that those will be mandated as well. and this is for teenagers and young adults who are essentially zero risk from code. if, you know, if the vaccine advocates had any sense, they would be honest about what the data is saying which, you know, there is efficacy here but that it is certainly not with the clinical getting people 50 and over with chronic conditions and 65 and over people are not stupid and they are making their own health decisions sort of wisely with the information they have. but get the rest of those people encouraged to be vaccinated and leave the rest of us alone. as you just said, they don't seem interested in doing that. bribe brian they don't. whether it comes to kids, it's almost universally accepted. you heard jen psaki on the podium yesterday saying my kid
4:05 pm
is wearing a of course that, they are used to it alex, maybe look at the flip side of this, she you are maybe saving them from a virus that won't hurt them. look at the stats, what else are you doing to a kid when you put that mask on for the second consecutive year? >> i mean, look, i agree. the mask thing is a problem. the vaccine issue is a much bigger issue. you know, that's an active drug that you are, you know, or, you know, a therapeutic that you are taking in your body and requiring people or requiring people to take that is a much bigger problem. the frankly the way the administration has behaved in the last month is should be frightening to anyone who believes in the constitution and the bill of rights. you know, they pushed on fox. they have pushed on me. they are trying to get me deplatformed. they are trying to get twitter to censor me. it's quite obvious. i now have, you know, the substech which you can go subscribe to hear from me directly. that's not how it should be. i should not have to worry
4:06 pm

4:07 pm
was of sars cov-1 so we could prevent sars cov 2. >> brian: news alert. he didn't. was it worth the risk? he took that financing, took that -- made that decision to stop cov 2. 600,000 americans are dead. how did that go? >> look, obviously, anthony fauci did not want this virus to, you know, he did not want gain of function research that would have led to this outcome. to me, there is a bigger problem with fauci, which is we now have emails showing that early, very, very early in january and february of last year, his main concern or one of his main concerns, certainly was was this genetically engineered or modified virus. was there some kind of connection to research in china we for this. okay? this came out in giant batch of emails, you know, that were authentic, that were from the nih. guess what although fox has
4:08 pm
talked about it and i have talked about it the "new york times" as far as can i tell has never written a story about this. once again, we have a major -- i don't want to say cover-up. but i don't understand what is defined as news anymore. it seems to me entirely ideological. the fact that fauci was more worried or as worried about where about whether or not this virus might have been created in a lab or created, modified i should say is a better word. than, you know, than anything else. it's not news to a lot of people on the left. >> brian: i will give you an example. knows more about this than probably any civilian in this country. he stopped by "the washington post." he gets a column in there. and signed by cnn. he should be leading every cnn broadcast as the premier expert. is he buried because they don't want that message. that, to me, is not great journalism to be -- to undermine to understate it just a little bit. alex berenson, thanks so much. >> great pleasure.
4:09 pm
>> brian: all right. 8 minutes now after the hour. let's bring in pete hegseth. co-host of "fox & friends." he has 8 hours of broadcasting to do but is he going to stop by us first. pete, are you worried about where this week has gone? going after people who haven't been vaccinated, mandating it you sense a lockdown, shut down again? >> pete: yes, i am. it is amazing. i felt likes a we progressed, the clouds would part and we would be in a moment where we are moving past this i think that's what everyone assumed. we felt that way early this summer. now we are at a point where we are going backwards to go forwards. even though my body, my choice, brian. anyone who wants access to the vaccine can get it. we know who the vulnerable population -- i feel like i keep missing something. what am i missing? honestly, what am i missing? if you want to get the vaccine, you can. we know who is vulnerable. and they should get the vaccine. and we know people who get the vaccine are not at risk at dying

from covid from people who don't have it if you don't have it, you are the problem. vaccinated people are a threat and need to wear a mask. that cnn doctor you just played talking about universal mask-wearing across the country, she was the former head of planned parenthood she was all about pro-choice if you want to abort a baby. when it comes to whether or not you want to wear a of course that, based on your vaccine status or whether or not you want to get a vaccine in the first place, no choice. we must mandate it, even though everyone who wants to has the information and the access. they can make the choice, you know your own health better than any bureaucrat does. i don't get -- what are we missing? you got to help me out. i don't get it. >> brian: that's why i put you on to make sense of it. you are not only an anchor. you are a parent. you have got kids. they are going to be going back to school. the schools are going to be telling your kids to put the mask back on. right now this delta variant is allowing people to double down on their control of the population. you have got wonder why everyone is so upset if you have a

problem with the vaccine? because, remember, in 2020, joy reid when this guy named donald trump was president of the united states, i want you to take a look at her tweet at that time. she said i mean will anyone, anyone at all ever fully trust the cdc government again? and who on god's green earth would trust a vaccine approved by the fda? how do we get a vaccine distributed after this place was broken? so joy reid was skeptical a year ago. but a year, in people might have some questions because they hear about swelling of the heart, or they might have underlying conditions and they don't take it they're the worst people in the world. >> pete: well, the left lost its automatic permanent virtue signaling in the mask when those mandates were lifted. they're still not lifted in some places like airports. and ultimately it became all about the vaccine. and in this particular case, the left doesn't understand the irony of the fact that the vaccine that they now worship, which is wonderful. it saved a lot of lives. i think it's great, was directly a result of operation warp speed and the efforts of the trump

meanwhile, as we prepare to end our military mission in afghanistan, you got a troubling report from our intelligence community. it shows that experts believe that the afghan government could collapse in about six months. current c a director william burns soundings the alarm telling npr the taliban are making significant strides. probably the strongest military position they have been in since 2001. as you can see here, take a look at this map. their grip on afghanistan is growing. you see the colors. that's where the taliban controls but they don't have the major centers of operation. they don't have kandahar. they don't have kabul. let's bring in general david petraeus probably the nation's premier expert on this. he led our mission in afghanistan for a while. and he, of course, was cia director. general, are you worried that the taliban will be controlled soon? >> i don't know about soon, brian, but i'm very worried about the trends right now, the trajectory that this is all heading. the taliban has the momentum.
4:45 pm
in fact, our chairman of the joint chiefs of staff general mark milley quite forthrightly noted that the other day. they have the strategic momentum. it was heartening, i must say, to see that we did use some air power outside of kandahar, second largest city and second most important city in afghanistan to kabul. but i think that we need to work with the afghan government to develop a plan to help them stabilize the security situation which has, indeed, deteriorated very significantly since the announcement of the up tent to withdraw. and you will recall on your show previously, i mentioned that my fear was that we would come to regret this decision and it appears that that regret could come sooner now rather than later. and this is, again, very concerning. >> brian: you also point out that it's in our best interest with china russia, iran, as well as pakistan in that area for us to have a presence for our national security. beyond afghanistan's welfare.
4:46 pm
>> well, again, let's remember why we went to afghanistan in the first place and frankly, why we stayed. there were lots of other accomplishments but at the end of the day, what we did was we went because the taliban refused to expel al-qaeda from the sanctuary it enjoyed under their rule of the bulk of afghanistan. the sanctuary in which the 9/11 attacks were planned and where the initial training of the attackers was conducted. we did eliminate that sanctuary. we had to eliminate the taliban regime to do it. and we have stayed first and foremost to ensure that al-qaeda could not reestablish that sanctuary, something they have tied do repeatedly. and now, also, their conservatorship about the slack state which has an affiliate affiliate throughout in the pakistan region. mission overlooked. that is afghanistan has also been a very important platform if you will for the conduct.
4:47 pm
regional oabout that which was conducted in my final few months as the commander in afghanistan when usama bin laden was brought it justice by a raid conducted by our special operations forces launched from afghanistan into abottabad, pakistan and recovered to afghanistan. so, that platform is also very, very important. there are plans to do all of this so-called over the horizon but our bases outside afghanistan are a very long way from afghanistan. they are in the gulf states. and for a drone to fly that whole distance could take seven or eight hours just to go to afghanistan and, of course, the same amount of time going back. so the drone time will be dramatically reduced and, of course, to put aircraft overhead you will have to have a real fleet of tankers to help them do that as well. >> brian: a lot of people watching right now enough, 20 years and time to move on. president trump say that one

war, it's ending our involvement in it. the war will continue and indeed it's going to get much worse. it already is worse. we are going to see ultimately, i fear, a very considerable civil war between ethnic sectarian tribal elements. we will see the return of al-qaeda. we will see millions of refugees flowing into other countries, particularly pakistan, and we will see ultimately the return of a medieval theocratic ultra conservative islamist regime the taliban controlling a good bit of the country. that's certainly not in our interest at the end of the day. >> brian: it does matter. foreign policy magazine writes these women are already being sold and forced to marry and sold into sex slavery. general petraeus, your insight is invaluable. thank you so much. hopefully somebody is listening. >> thanks, brian. let me also add that it is very, very important that we meet our moral obligation to the battlefield interpreters who served two years on the ground with our soldiers to qualify for
