the salaries of school officials who choose to require masks in schools against his executive order. six counties are rejecting the governor's mandate and requiring masks or of have made them optional and in texas the dallas school board voting to require masks in defiance of governor greg abbott's executive order. lloyd austin announced all military members will be required to get vaccinated by september 15th. 1 million troops are fully vaccinated. in a memo to troops, austin said the date could move up sooner if the fda grants full approval by the vaccine by the end of the month. todd: we await that. meantime, as dhs secretary mayorkas heads to the border this week, one of the focuses has to be the humanitarian crisis. but the real crisis as far as i'm concerned at this point in our country has to be the focus on covid simply walking across

the border. take a look at these new numbers from nbc news. 18% of migrant families, 20% of unaccompanied children, positive testing for covid at the border. jillian: unbelievable. todd: while the administration is allowing covid to walk across the border, governments around the country will start masking up your kids again. not debating masks necessarily, just saying while covid is allowed to cross the border, your kids are going to be masked. also, we're fearful that at some point lockdowns are going to come back. jillian: let's cool it on the lockdown word. i think the lockdown word has a way different meaning than restrictions. todd: something could be coming, we talked about this, that's we're a little fearful. jillian: i'm fearful of restriction, i'm not fearful of a full-blown lockdown. todd: the point is, there's no restrictions, lockdowns, whatever you want to call it at the border, it's just come on over and bring your covid. jillian: arizona ag sent a

letter to the biden administration demanding it halt the release of covid positive migrants into the u.s., saying quote, as the biden administration is ramping up pressure campaigns for covid related mandates, the revelation shows hypocrisy and disdain for the health of everyday americans. if this is true i call on your department to cease these actions immediately. not sure if that's going to happen but a lot of people are starting to take notice and wondering what is going to happen come midterms. this piece from the washington post says president biden needs a coherent strategy for the border. they say there is pressure at the border that may cost the democrats control of one or both houses of congress in next year's midterm elections. there is nothing in the long-term or short-term strategizing that is likely to shift that dynamic. todd: the white house owns this. it's not just this that democrats in the white house own, there's a lot of things

that could tip the balance for republicans for 2022 and a potentially 2024. molly hemingway gets into that. listen. >> a lot of republicans are eager to see what happens in the midterm elections because of how unpopular these democratic policy proposals are, whether they're at the border or inflation or growing crime surge, but republicans need to understand that voters are looking for someone who is going to fight the democrats on these things. todd: so far we've gone through two rather liberal media organizations highlighting things that could be a problem for the dems, first nbc news, then the washington post. this is real. you get a sense even watching democrats on this channel, other channels, there's a fear out there that, hey, what we said we were going to do and what we ultimately did may not be working for the bulk of american people. jillian: time is leading up to the midterms. i can't believe we're already in august.

todd: doesn't it seem like we're just prepping for 2020 and now we're almost one year away. jillian: time's ticking and so far not much has been done as far as getting a grip on the border crisis, crime is still raging in so many cities across the country. covid is not nearing an end point if you ask majority of people out there, so i don't know, we'll see. todd: we will see. i feel like we always say we will see at the end of these because at some point we will. jillian: today, two brothers charged in the fatal shooting of a chicago police officer are due in court. eric morgan is charged with multiple felonies including unlawful of use of a weapon. amonte morgan is charged with first degree murder and attempted murder of a police officer. this as we learn more than two dozen chicago police officers reportedly turned their backs on mayor lori lightfoot while she visited the hospital saturday.

>> bravo to those officers because they were not going to be used as a photo op. i'm glad you shunned lori lightfoot because everyone knows that lori lightfoot does not care about police officers. she's a fraud. she doesn't support police. jillian: a third suspect from indiana is charged with illegally buying the gun used to kill officer french. coming up, tommy laran will join us to react to all of it. todd: new york governor andrew cuomo facing two new accusers after an investigation found he sexually harassed multiple women. the women contacted the attorney general's office last week. the women were told the probe was over and then referred to local authorities. at least 13 women have accused cuomo of inappropriate behavior, as state lawmakers say their impeachment inquiry will look into his handle of nursing home

jillian: we are back with a deadly plane crash caught on camera. you can see the aircraft plunging nose-first into a florida lake near the villages. police say one of the two people on-board was killed. witnesses say a man ejected from the plane but his parachute did not open. >> we went over, looked around for him, thinking we could save him and then we saw him, saw a parachute. parachute. jillian: the faa and ntsb are investigating. todd: 16 minutes after the hour now, democrats unveiling a $3.5 trillion budget proposal littered with progressive

policies as chuck schumer makes a case for the massive spending push for infrastructure, quote, unquote. >> lower costs for americans it it will cut taxes for american families. it will create millions of jobs while tackling the climate crisis and it will be paid for by wealthy paying their fair share. jillian: here to react, kentucky congressman james comer. sir, it is good to see you. i guess the question of the hour is, how will this be paid for? >> well, that's a great question. the only way it's going to be able to be paid for is through higher taxes. especially if the democrats are going to try to do the budget reconciliation. that means the bill is going to have to somehow be paid for, they can't continue their deficit spending spree and you're going to have to raise taxes on more than the very wealthy people as chuck you schumer said it. every working american is going to pay more.

every small business is going to pay for it. therefore, they're going to pass those increased taxes onto the consumer. so at the end of the day, if this bill goes through, every american is going to have to pay more on top of all the inflation that every consumer's already seeing, which that in itself is a tax increase. todd: as a reminder, congressman, here is what is in the infrastructure bill. a few things of note that we want to point out. the legal status to millions of immigrants, focusing right there on pre-k for 3 and 4-year-olds, free community college, pretty short on infrastructure if you ask me. for somebody like me, i've got a kid looking at that free pre-k for 3 and 4-year-olds, that might be interesting to me. how can you as a republican deal with how heavy this is on hand-outs when you're trying to run in 2022 and 2024. let's face it, people do like free. >> people do like free. but there is no free lunch.

and when you look at free kindergarten and free tuition, that's going to come at a cost, children may go to kindergarten for free but their supplies will cost more. the everyday expenses will cost more. at the end of the day, had this is a phony bill. it's not going to do anything to help the average american. there's very little infrastructure in it. we're all going to see higher taxes and more inflation. so i'm very disappointed the republicans in the senate are going along with this. i know they're going to pass bipartisan infrastructure bill but following this infrastructure bill as you said is $3.5 trillion worth of unnecessary spending, spending that's going to add to inflation and at the end of the day it's going to hurt the economy. jillian: i want to focus for a minute on that strengthen border security portion of this. i understand $107 billion in funding would go towards immigration initiatives. number one, i'm curious if we know what those initiatives are. number two, do you think this this there to perhaps sway some of those moderates in light of

everything we see happening at the border. >> that's probably in there to try to sway a few moderates who are getting killed back home because every american is frustrated with the biden administration, they won't secure the border. however, i have zero confidence that any new spending will do anything to deter the flow of illegals across the border. the biden administration needs to be specific on exactly what they're talking about with respect to immigration spending in that bill. but they're not going to be. and it's very disappointing that so many members of congress are going along with this bill, especially republicans, when we don't know what the bill actually means. we are not 100% certain on where all the infrastructure goes. when you talk about $110 billion for roads and bridges, my first question is where exactly are those roads and bridges going to be built. i think we're given too much authority to the secretary of transportation and the biden administration on this huge blank check. todd: not surprisingly, if you

don't like it, bernie sanders does like it. here's a tweet outlining his thoughts. for too long congress ignored the needs of the working class, elderly, children, sick and the poor, now is the time for bold action. without getting too wonky can you explain how the debt limit plays into all of this? because this seems to be something that nobody's talking about and it could be the big factor here. >> this used to be an issue in congress. republicans used to care about the deficit. and for whatever reason over the last few years, many of my republican colleagues have not been as concerned about the deficit but janet yellen said this week that we're going to have to vote on the debt limit increase. you cannot continue to pass massive deficit spending. so this debt limit vote, something that hopefully conservative republicans and if

there are any conservative moderate democrats out there which i don't think there are any moderate democrats that care about the deficit, but we need to make sure that the congress has to pass a debt limit increase to be able to continue to spend like this. or else they're going to have to increase taxes. so either way, it's a bad deal for americans and i just hope that this bill goes down in flames. jillian: before we let you go, you touched on inflation at the beginning of the segment but if you could expand on what this would do for inflation. >> well, it's going to increase the cost of everything, more government spending is going to continue to increase inflation. that's what we saw when biden passed his first bill with absolutely zero republican votes, that $1.9 trillion stimulus bill after the economy had already been over-stimulated to be honest. this is another $4.5 trillion of more spending. can you imagine what it would cost to build a road and bridge under the biden administration because of the inflation and then you add in the labor

to use those advantages. the reason why not is because it's their country to defend now. this is their struggle. jillian: the militant group meeting next to no resistance as they captured their sixth capital city. the pentagon still plans a full withdrawal of u.s. troops by the end of the month. texas congressman august pfluger joins us next hour to discuss the situation. the biden administration is releasing a file showing possible link between saudi arabian leaders an the 9/11 hijackers, this comes after first responders and families of victims wrote a letter telling the president he was not welcome at the memorial events unless he declassified those files. they allege saudi leaders backed the terror attacks. >> these are documents that show culpableity on behalf of the kingdom of saudi arabia for supporting the 9/11 hijackers. they won't give them to the families because they're deemed

too secret. .todd: job openings as you know are at record highs. but unemployed americans are not filling them. new data shows that u.s. job openings exceed unemployment numbers by 1.4 million and the trucking industry has been particularly hard-hit. joining me to react, independent truck driver, dale bone. great to see you as always. when you look at those numbers, doesn't logic dictate that the main explanation is that the government is paying people not to work? >> exactly. i mean, if people pay me more to stay home than i was working, i'm going to stay home. that's the problem. they need to quit with this extra. just let them go back to work. todd: your field, transportation, seeing a ton of openings. take a look at these norm numbe, 48% increase in unfilled job positions in transportation, 16.1% of indeed driving job

postings, indeed being the job site, offering hiring incentives. you how dire is the driver shortage from somebody like you, you see it day in and day out, how dire is it out there? >> it's pretty bad. i mean, you've got companies out there offering $10,000 sign-on bonuses, paying crazy money for the mileage pay. i have never heard of it. there's still nobody wants to work when they're sitting at home drawing almost twice what they were drawing a month while they were working. why would they go back? todd: take a look at this as well, the infrastructure bill we've been talking about all morning long includes a national mileage tax pilot program. quote, secretary shall establish a pilot program to demonstrate a national motor vehicle per mile user fee to restore and maintain the long-term solvency of the highway trust fund. obviously, the nature of

trucking is that you drive on a lot of roads, you're going to pay a lot of that mileage fee. that tax combined with a trucker shortage, combined with everything else going up, isn't that just going to hurt everyone with prices of anything that is transported shooting through the roof even more? >> yes, yes. when trucking -- when prices go up in trucking, it's passed onto the consumer. the consumer will wind up paying more. us as truck drivers, we already pay a mileage tax. some states charge weight and distance taxes which is extra. we pay for that already. why am i going to pay that again? i'm not. todd: we were talking about this concept of double paying, you know, you pay a lot of tolls in many states including new jersey, new york, and now you pay a mileage tax. isn't that a double toll, double tax. it's unreal. i like to give solutions to people who do the work. you are a trucker, you

understand what it takes. how would you solve this problem of not being able to hire truckers? >> really, i don't know that, i really don't know that. i don't know what they're going to do. like i said, you got companies here offering just unheard of incentives and still nothing. you know. i mean, the guy that i pull for, i watched it increase almost double in the last two months just to try to find drivers and it's on a dedicated route, home almost daily and still nobody wants to do it. todd: what's the reaction, quickly, before i let you go, what's the reaction from existing truck drivers when they see the way companies bend over backwards for a job that quite frankly you've probably been doing for decades. >> you have a lot of drivers that have one job for a few years and other companies are making bigger incentives so they're pretty much job hopping now, a lot of that's going on to

news station, it says police are treading lightly to deal with it. the smugglers tell them to call an uber of lyft driver. a driver noticed a police car and headed out of the neighborhood alone. is that what's happening? >> that is actually something that's happening within the community and we just got wind of this particular situation last week. but also another issue that we're facing is that we have smugglers targeting the youth as well so they're promising a job, easy money, just pick up somebody and cross the texas state line. so we are seeing that, that problem starting to arise within our community. jillian: how do you try and contain something like covid-19 if any of these migrants have it and they get into an uber or lyft, in theory they would be

wearing a mask, but maybe not. even still, this is an uber or lyft driver that's then in your community, potentially picking up other people and spreading it. >> well, it does complicate things. these are individuals who are not trying to use proper channels to get into the country so, yes, if they do have covid or any other disease, it can be spread across the nation. so it is something that we're trying to get the word out on this issue but we are limited. we can't -- our local authorities do not do immigration enforcement so that falls on border patrol to be able to pull these individuals over and take them where they're supposed to or put them back where they're supposed to be deported. we can't do enforcement at the local level. jillian: let's take a look at the numbers, the spike in border arrests of criminal illegal immigrants, in 2021, so far

nearly 7900, that is up 221% from 2020. what is your message to the biden administration? what do you want them to know? >> well, i think it's not only for the biden administration but also for the entire congress. the issue of immigration has persisted across many administrations, both republican controlled and democratic controlled but we need to get resources to these border communities because as long as there's gridlock at the federal level, we're going to continue to see these issues and we're going to put in jeopardy the safety of our community. jillian: have you seen a rise in 911 calls or people reporting suspicious activity, things going on in your communities? >> absolutely. we continue to get calls for suspicious activity and we have to dispatch police officers out to these calls and every officer that we dispatch to these calls is one less officer that we have available to dispatch to other emergencies throughout the community. jillian: you how do the officers -- how do the officers feel about what's going on?

>> there is frustration. but also we are still a very safe community. we're one of the sayest communities in the state of new mexico. we have to work with our partners, the border patrol partners and turn over situations that deal with immigration enforcement to them as soon as possible. so that we can move on to emergency situations across our community. so there is frustration. jillian: before we let you go, what are your residents saying? are any of them scared? >> there is fright in the community. i know some see this as a humanitarian issue. the biggest message we can get across is congress needs to if they're not going to deal with the issue, then we need reform that they do deliver resources to our communities to be able to combat the issues. jillian: thank you so much for joining us. we appreciate your time and insights. >> thank you for the invitation. jillian: of course.

now this, rashida tlaib caught maskless dancing at a party the same day she took to twitter to slam kentucky senator rand paul for not taking the covid-19 pandemic seriously. todd: that ain't dancing, sally. jillian: looks like dancing to me. todd: carley shimkus is here with more. carley: this feels familiar. jillian: haven't we had this conversation before? carley: we keep seeing it. you saw the video of rashida tlaib dancing indoors maskless, no social distancing. a congressional candidate summed it up this way, saying democrat rep rashida tlaib partied last night with 100 plus maskless people. dems want your kids stuck in masks in school all day while they party maskless with your friends. don't comply, don't give one more inch in 2022 we will defeat

them. there was a tweet saying in part the kentucky senator is throwing a tantrum as his state is being swallowed whole by this virus again. it will be interesting to hear what rand paul thinks of the new video of his critic. todd: i'm sure he loves it. speaking of hypocrites, wow. carley: so we're talking about the time's up organization. so it was the organization that was founded in the wake of the me too movement to fight against sexual harassment and assault. the co-founder of the organization just resigned after the investigation into governor cuomo found that she was involved in an effort to discredit one of his accusers. so the ag report found that roberta kaplan reviewed a draft of a disparaging op-ed letter aimed at attacking lindsey boilen. the org. of any says said this of kaplan stepping down.

we and she agree that it's the right and appropriate thing to do. the events of last week made it clear our process should be evaluated. we will do just that. we need a more inclusive process to engage the broader survivor community, many of whom spent years doing the nobel work of -- noble work of fighting for women. kaplan responded. she said recent events that our apparent allies in the fight to advance women can turn out to be abusers. ed to, you said -- todd, you said it, this is an unbelievable situation, with kaplan, co-founder of the time's up organization, working with governor cuomo. todd: where was her apology in that statement? did i miss it? >> carley: i think you may have. jillian: can we call you nice? carley: you can call me nice. can i call you nice? jillian: you can. carley: apparently people need to watch out when they call folks nice because white house press secretary jen psaki told

vogue magazine she thinks the term is sexist. vogue magazine said jen psaki is good at mending fences, don't call her nice, quote, it's like nails on the chalk board. she says really, you can't think of a better description? the word is sexist and a little disparaging. she says it's also this desire to put people in a box. jillian: i'm not -- carley: gillian, she says -- jillian, she says sometimes she's friendly, joyful or tough, so calling her nice puts her in a box. i think calling someone nice is just nice. i think we're in the majority opinion here. todd: as a guy, if a girl's nice, you know, you're like okay, i'll date a girl that's nice. she won't be nice when you mary her, -- marry her, i guarantee. carley: sounds like you need a couch and a therapist right now. todd: no, no, no, i love you, amanda. carley: you want to lie down?

throughout the country. what they've done is they've promoted movies like this one called "safe" in which this woman is doing a read-aloud. this isn't our memory of read-aloud. it's a multimillion dollar industry of consultants going into schools. this little book here is one of the products put out there today, woke baby. because they're going after our babies. and what they're trying to do is turn them into little activeists and you know these kids are too young for these big ideas. todd: unbelievable. what should parents be on the lookout for, whether it's woke kindergarten or something else and this forces try to indoctrinate their children? >> parents have to be vigilant. that's why we started an organization, parents defending education. we're all mama bears and papa bears, trying to protect our cubs. so when you get the syllabus, when you get the curriculum, go to the links.
