the economy growth is upcoming and the fastest in 40 years. and unemployment is coming down. so i would argue are biden economic plan is working. >> laura: working, well, is it working when people choose not to work? when your policies are increasingly encouraging americans to stay home? when the government keeps sending checks, we called them biden bucks to people to remain out of the workforce, okay, it turns out a lot of people just don't work. it's shocking. >> we've been looking for the last hard, hard for the last couple of weeks, cannot even get people to come into interviews when they do apply. >> it's very, very frustrating. some of the front of the house, back of the house, across the board we can't find people to work. >> we have plants that aren't able to run at full capacity because they simply can't find enough people to work in them. >> i can't find enough staff to keep the thermos going, now i'm going to say, well, you have to

occasional zoom calls doing self-care. that's their ideal. so just when companies call workers back, the cdc's fearmongering threatens to send them home again. it's a vicious cycle and killing the very work ethic we need now more than ever. so when you are feeling weak and may be helpless, they want you to believe that only government can serve your problems. not hard work, not personal initiative, not your family and getting family help, to democrats i've used this pandemic to target the very heart and soul of america with lockdowns and now mandates, they waged a war on the country. here are the sad set of facts, they don't want you to be a part of a strong family or a strong church or to be a part of a strong community or to even really trust your neighbors, they would prefer that you not really own anything. rent if you must. you won't have to pay it anyway

innovations. now it's all at risk by a movement that seeks to discourage personal independence and encourage collectivism. when you think about it, the war on work is ultimately a war on america itself. it is in the struggle and through hard work that americans have always shown there their true colors, and time to fly thm again boldly and unapologetically and this is "the angle," joining me now john tapper, host of the hit show "bar rescue" and creator of the new tapper's tavern franchise, the first just opened in alpharetta, georgia. i know that you say that there is a larger problem if people keep taking the biden box to stay at home and not go to work, explain that. >> you know, laura, what i find interesting is my dog got sick last week and i wanted to go to the veterinarian, they pushed me back a week because they did not have employees.

12:12 am
after they have earned it. it is a powerful shift, and if i can just speak economics for a second, and i'm not an economic professor, if you get $800 a week of unemployment benefits and you also work with a department getting $800 a week unemployment, 600 a week, $83,000 a year for that household and unemployment benefits. the immediate income in america is only 63,000. we are incentivizing people to stay home. what if we gave that additional unemployment benefits to employers to incentivize people to go to work? >> laura: what if we just cut off the unemployment, hunger is a pretty powerful thing. i don't mean physical hunger, because people who are in need need help, but people who can work but refused to work, but the government is literally putting and bills in many ways on people's shoulders through the mandate, regulations, and now through free money which we -- the paper eventually has to be paid.
12:13 am
john, i want to ask you about this idea of work-life balance. because nobody wants to miss their kids growing up, and you stay in the office your whole life and you never see your family. so that's really important. however, have we taken that a step too far when you think of, well, a lot of the millennials talking about i need time for "self-care," i don't know why i'm harping on that tonight, but the whole self-care movement is a little -- my mother is not with us, but she worked from the time she was 12 during the depression and if she heard the self-care thing, i think her head would explode. >> you know, i think that's right. i have friends in the military who trains military dogs, and the only feed a military dog at night, because a hungry dog is an obedient dog. if we are not causing people to be hungry to work, then we are providing them with all the meals they need sitting at home. i'm completely with you, laura, these benefits make no sense to us. and on top of the impact of not

12:16 am
that's what you call a bad trend. in no conclusion but this is intentional. you are right, the biden administration is responsible for the chaotic situation on our southern border and all that comes along with that when you have just this influx of people with covid and all other concerns. >> laura: i can't believe that we had governors desantis on the show last week and i asked him, are you given any warning when a plane load or a busload or a caravan of migrants are dropped off in your state? or are you told? he said we have no idea. we have to pick up information -- no one is being told! there has to be a lawsuit somewhere! >> no mayor, no one has any idea. >> laura: where are they going? >> intentionally, all over the nation. they are going to ohio and all over the state. and we have no say. on the idea that the commander in chief, the present on the end of the united states is actually doing this on purpose makes no

sense. that's why the american people are so fed up with this administration, which by the way has had the worst start to any administration certainly in my lifetime. we have never seen, whether it is inflation, the border, international situations, you name it, the crime in our big cities, we have never had an administration with this rough of a start, so i think it's why in 16, 17 months we are going to win back the house. >> laura: there is no choice, have to win back back the house. congressman, you are the ranking member on house judiciary and i want to get to your thoughts on another development tonight, a lot of people are upset that amy coney barrett, supreme court justice ruled against indiana students on the vaccine requirements to be back on campus. it was not a ruling on the merit, and i think that this could be more complicated than people think at first blush. because again, it is not a ruling on the merits of the case. the facts of the case might not have been the greatest for
12:18 am
determining the constitutionality of these types of mandates. what is your initial impression? >> no, that may in fact be the case and the legal arguments for why they did not take the case itself, but i cannot imagine a world where the founders would've envisioned that this kind of mandate on the american people and citizens is okay. i just can't see it. and frankly, laura, when you look at the broader context, and look, you are a leader on this. i remember being on your show a year ago in april and you said, where is this all going to go with the mask mandate, the shutdown, the vaccine passports? we now see where they want to take it. so in the context i would preferred that the court take the case up and rule in the right way in favor of the students. unfortunately they didn't. i'm sure there's a legal justification. so big picture sense i'm troubled by this because i am trouble where dr. fauci, i mean, for goodness sake. the school board is out there. quit listening to fauci, start listening to parents. this guy has been all over the

worse than that we have state borders that are shutting as well. i fear that there is too much for your in the community about this virus which we know has a very, very low infection fatality rate actually. that is what is causing this collective new policy insanity in australia, and i will say, do not do what we are doing. the citizens have absolute freedoms. >> laura: george, what is the reaction of the average working person in australia to these draconian lockdowns that are being enforced with police authority? >> not just police authority, but broadening the army to civilians as well, which is an issue in itself. there are more troops coming to actually do that placing. but in sydney, melbourne, brisbane, united, there is a lot of what we call trade staples that are very, very angry about

the fact that they cannot get to work. and if they don't get to work, most of them don't get paid. and there are compensation measures that are out there, but they don't fully make up for what people might lose, and for what businesses might lose. it's everything. >> laura: the military -- but george, military in the streets of australia against their own people? >> that's right. i should not have glossed over it. it's crazy. there is now something like 500 troops in sydney at the moment. people, defense-first personnel on the street. patrolling civilians to make sure that they are complying with coronavirus restrictions, and apparently the new style of government which covers the city of sydney called for an extra 200 troops -- >> laura: people better wake up. people better wake up. i mean, this is -- i heard some of them booing you when you are

delivering your remarks. some of them were booing you will, but there are a lot of people here that watch that that were cheering you. they were cheering you. because it takes guts to say that. >> a lot of people in everyday life were cheering me, but laura, as i said, collective policy insanity here. i'm persona non grata in camber for saying that. i was banned by the government and opposition for saying that. >> laura: your prime minister's ratings and approval numbers are at an 18 month low, so mr. morrison, you are in some big trouble of your own. george, your message for the american people in 15 seconds before we have to let you go? >> stand up for freedom. it needs to be fought at every inch of the way in this fight against pandemic restrictions. >> laura: freedom matters. >> laura: freedom matters.
