while the americans are free to everyone for can over the wall and into safe territory. we spoke with evacuees here and they said what we see at the airport today my only get worse because they believe that how event is being restrained while international focus is on afghanistan. listen to what the number of university students had to tell fox news earlier today. >> who knows what's going to happen, right off the taliban is trying to show a good picture but we know outside the media, there are other things going on. one thing they do know, they are safe there for the time being. benjamin. benjamin: despite what we are hearing from the white house, you know the things are getting worse, not better. thank you. >> president biden canceled his weekend trip to wilmington, delaware as he faces criticism over chaotic exit from afghanistan. as our departure draws comparison to the fall of saigon, vice president harris is flying to vietnam. jackie heinrich is live at the white house. reporter: hey, there. president canceled his trip to wilmington, supposed to leave shortly after his meeting with national security team this morning. we do not expect to hear from the president today for the white house did release a new statement amid reports of a possible islamic state threat for the u.s. military forcing the military to find other areas

to get americans and allied refugees to the air force. fox news confirmed the reports a couple of hours ago and the white house said the president and vice president en route to singapore met with national security team by your conference and discussed security situations and afghanistan and counterterrorism operations including ice to discuss logistical operations to evacuate american citizens and their families, applicants and their families and vulnerable afghans both on u.s. military aircraft as well as charters and coalition flights. the officials that the team has continued to work on aggressive efforts to finalize agreement with third-party countries to start a transit hub for the evacuation efforts. last we heard from our president, he extended commitments to evacuate americans to afghan refugees and allies but it's unclear by when he attends to do that and what involved the crew.

internationally for the most part, counterterrorism is a concern but generally limited to the region once you name will have to deal with it. >> president biden has said afghanistan helps the u.s. pivot toward a threat from china, giving up seven in afghanistan which is strategically located, could not be considered arab? >> i don't think so, i'm on the record, i'm have been in favor of getting out for a long time, we lost a lot of american lives, a lot of americans were injured. what we get in return? not much. i don't see is. the main.is counterterrorism because obviously afghanistan hosted al qaeda and al qaeda attacked the u.s. homeland but other than that, it's hard for me to see why the u.s. should have men and women dying in afghanistan when the regional people deal with regional

some areas we were talking about likely getting up to a category one hurricane as it makes a move toward long island, you can see the timestamp there. this is early sunday morning, i think a landfall is closer "midday" from a category one or perhaps a strong tropical storm that's likely to change the potential damage here. here are forecast models you see most of them running into long island, a handful drifting further up to the east getting more into southern new england, something else we could be watching for but no surprise here the entire area with the models, everything in red, those are hurricane warnings currently in place and everything in yellow, tropical storm warnings in place which mean tropical storm like conditions and one condition would be wind, a large scalable initially it's very wide, the storm will shrink so went will be an issue, all the

wind will bring water into the area three to 5 feet of storm surge, could be the high end and additionally, as you go into see rain for the storm is onshore, perhaps in the hudson valley state engines, isolated areas, this will be tomorrow we will be watching. benjamin: thank you, adam, thanks very much. >> we have breaking news, fox news learned the state department has been hit by a cyber attack we are going to go back to jackie hi mark live at the white house with the latest. reporter: as you mentioned, the state department has been hit by a cyber attack. notifications of a possible serious breach were made from the department of defense cyber command. it's unclear when the breach was discovered products believed to have happened a couple of weeks ago. a source familiar is telling me the ongoing mission by the state

department to evacuate americans and afghan allies in afghanistan have not been effective. the extent of the breach investigation into who might be behind it, any effort taking to mitigate it and any ongoing risks to potential operations is pretty unclear at this time. state department officials gave a generic statement that says the department takes seriously response about us that states are the information and continuously taking steps to ensure information protected for security reasons not in a position to discuss the nature or scope of any alleged cybersecurity incidents at this time. the state department was breached as part of the solar wind by russia so yet another event impacted them, we are awaiting more detail on this breaking news. >> thank you, we will continue to check back with you as things develop.

taliban islamic state, complicating to evacuate americans and other allies from afghanistan, veterans and military all carry into present biden's advisors over the growing crisis. general john in afghanistan yesterday on america's news. >> we that's been filled with phone calls from foreign service members many contacts from people in afghanistan i worked for, ten tours there almost six years in total so you can imagine the unmitigated disaster we've seen on the ground, how worried people are and how concerned they are about their safety, the safety of the families, this is unprecedented. i went in 2001 and served nine more tours after that, last 72 service members, i think about

their legacy and their sacrifice and their families and the way this has been handled from this lack of ineffective leadership pork demonstration policy and strategy which was really put in place in 2014 when president obama changed the strategy best that was working from we had a couple more years we could probably have turned over to him but we abandoned it in this hit up and the same people that made the decisions are in the white house and senior places in the government making these decisions so i could have given this mission to lieutenant, given him my intent they would have come up with a much better plan than we see coming out of our senior military folks in the pentagon and our president and his staff, it's terrible spew off the pentagon launched a rescue mission to extract hundred and 60 americans outside

have been the better strategy here for getting out? >> based on what i physically observed 2005, six and during the search in 2010 and 11, i can tell you unequivocally the right answer would have been similar to what was said a minute ago to withdrawal in 2014. that was the way we should have done it then but trump tried to get us out february 2020 but we did not take advantage of that even for four biden came in when he came in and set of a significant amount of ties to do this coordinated and organized ways, we got out really quick and that to everyone into confusion and undermined what was going on but it's a bigger issue, far bigger "issue is" how 20 years have passed and $120 left the afghan government and

military that they literally discredit this integrated with the least amount of taliban pressure and that's what's going on because this condition was known by members of both parties, senior military officials and faye off-white. >> and people, things were going good and well when they weren't and that needs to be explored much more than the way we are getting it up. >> as you know since 2001 there have been for u.s. presidents who have had their fingerprints on afghanistan and president biden is getting criticism from all sides but when you consider, you look back at former president george w. bush, obama and then-president trump and now we have biden, who else in the presidential timeline do you think failed to act? >> i disagree a little bit that wasn't obama in 2014, it was president bush in 2007 and that's where the failure was when he changed from military operation to nationbuilding and

providing militarily objectives, we've never had a chance to win under those conditions in fact by each president had a chance to fix that. obama had a chance, he could have gotten us out in 2014 under far better conditions were considered in 2014 the taliban had control of 7% of the district and we have the rest of it so we could have gone out then and the afghan government would have had a chance to get in order be secure for its responsible defense instead of the way it worked out where the taliban had almost everything by the time biden started we didn't hardly have a chance to get it done in order, fed us the real problem. >> as we do look to analyze exactly what happened here and what's gone wrong over the past two decades, we are still dealing with a moment to moment mission of desperation by people trying to get out u.s. military trying to stand its ground at the airport kabul and i don't believe you can see it but this

is for the psaki of our viewers, we have a photo, a map looking up above at the kabul airport and what it shows is there are gates where the u.s. military is holding its ground and then you have the entry and then the taliban checkpoints and in between them at the main entrance in the taliban, that's where a lot of the horrible photos and videos are coming up so when you keep that in mind as people try to get in, you have a u.s. embassy and state department telling americans, don't go to the airport, you have the pentagon saying we have the u.s. military ready at the gate when you get here and then we are hearing from jacqui heinrich that now americans are being contacted in small groups in the article to a separate site transferred by the military to get to the airport. that's a lot going on and none of it seems cohesive. our hearts go out to the americans, what you think they should be doing?

no one seems to be saying the same thing. >> i will tell you why we are in the position which leads to the situation, when the afghan government collapsed, they had the three largest cities about the time we were getting into the endgame, instead of fighting which would have delayed the taliban entry, all three surrendered and gave up so now biden thought they had more time, all of a sudden the telegrams were there. this reiterates the cost of these failures in life that not only the americans who have died but not all of these people, civilians and afghan and other westerners are in a horrible situation and you've got to do the best thing you can't when the situation goes to hell, at least they are doing something and i give him credit for that. >> thank you so much for your expertise and forthrightness today. benjamin: new concerns at our

we have more on the breaking news we brought you earlier in the hour, the state department has been hit by a cyber attack, we are getting new details about the attack including when exactly is happening and whether it's a fact from jacqui heinrich joins us live from the white house with the latest. >> off the top there, i want to note that i'm told from a source familiar with this, the ongoing efforts to evacuate afghan refugees in afghanistan have not been affected by the cyber attack i was able to confirm the state department notifications

were made of a possible serious breach by the department of defense cyber command. it's unclear exactly when a cyber attack was discovered but it's believed to have happened. a couple weeks ago. who was behind it, any efforts taken to mitigate and contain it and whether a possible ongoing risk to the state department operation is unclear. i've not been able to get can't keep answers to those questions from the state department, not to suggest they don't know the details but they have not readily shared them with me. a spokesperson told me in a statement kat the department takes seriously responsible these with information and continuously takes steps to ensure information is protected for security reasons not in a position to discuss the nature of or scope of any cybersecurity incident at this time. the state department part of the

northern triangle, it's much less likely the title for the entire global, we sent out a signal that you're not interested in securing the border than we were several months ago and people have to realize when people are benefiting from this chaos at the border, are criminal organizations of every kind and every part of the world, it increases human trafficking and drug smuggling because of you have 40% of the border patrol doing something other than patrolling our border, that gives more risk than we should have. the policies were working, they were reversed without any preparation and what you get is chaos as you sent a signal across the globe to bring children to the border. >> set in the past how they were given to dhs to dismantle, can you get more specific, what's being taken away?

state of emergency from new york city long island and the path of new england, hurricane henry. adam is tracking this for us. >> the storm is about a couple hundred miles off the coast of virginia, when speeds at 75 miles, still strengthened in the next couple of hours, maybe up to 8-mile an hour winds, cresting 80 miles an hour, it's on the move to the northeast at 18 miles an hour down but move we are beginning to see the leading edge from the storm, fans of rain hitting the jersey shore along the southern edge in

this walk to the seventh of new england and the conditions start to deteriorate overnight. this is our forecast currently pacing this may hit long island around lunchtime or 2:00 p.m. tomorrow but you are going to start if you overnight tonight an early tomorrow at the height of the storm, the front center, when it will place make landfall. all of our tracks are pretty much in agreement looking at portions of what i would wear little further east running into southern new england but all of this is currently under hurricane morning as you see enables either. outside of the area in the yellow that's a tropical storm warning, you can see tropical storm conditions far to the east as new york city. here's the winfield with this, want to make landfall, it falls apart of it but that's a large enough area a lot of folks can see wind and taking down power lines early. three to 5-foot storm surge,
