of 10.9 million back in july, but there is no one to fill them thanks to what i like to call biden box. the mailbox money that keeps going out to those finicky workers who have gotten used to couch surfing and ordering from door . for an example, and estimated 60% of small business owners in indiana reported they could not fill job openings at last month record high. unfilled openings across the state are far above the 48 year historical average of 22%. if you are looking to biden's brainiacs for answers, you are out of luck. even cnn sees what a drag on the economy this all is. >> help us understand the mess here of the job market. there are right now 10.9 million job openings, 8.4 million people actively looking for work. what is the disconnect? >> the month of august, quite

honestly, a lot of people got concerned with the delta variance. a lot of parents did not have child care, people are out of the workforce and afraid of their health. i think there are a few other things. some people don't want to go back to the job they were in for whatever reason and looking to find new careers. >> laura: if they wanted to get serious, she would've followed of with mr. secretary, and child care costs are really to blame, how to draw managed to deliver the lowest unemployment rate for women and nearly 70 years when he was president? biden is handing families $300 per kid per month. yet we are supposed to believe that making parents, especially single mothers, less able to work? once again, they think you are stupid. trump was able to keep the labor market tight and wages growing by controlling our borders. keeping cheap labor down and putting the pressure on manufacturers through smart trade policy.

but now biden is a rating all of that with open borders and seen an untold number of refugees, many of whom who will be competing with low-wage workers as well. everything that he is done from causing gas prices to double to fanning racial tensions through critical race theory, all of it has harmed the very people who this pandemic hurt most. america's working class. their safety, their cost-of-living, their sense of optimism. all needlessly compromised. a far cry from what the great panther from delaware pledge during the campaign. speak out this is about dignity and respect. for working people. and that is precisely what this election is all about. dignity and respect. we have to restore the soul of this country, the decency and the honor that we have always valued. >> laura: are, where his honor sending 13 trips to their death

you get the sense that americans are just finally waking up to the fact that biden does not seem often times to have any idea of where he is or what he is doing. >> yeah, that is right. he has been dealing with multiple crises from the immigration situation at the border to inflation to crime. but i do think afghanistan was the moment where the myth was excluded that was one of his cornerstones of his campaign, his experience and competence, adults were back in charge. that is gone now. the other thing i think that happened is one of the intangibles is that it has taken a bite out of his credibility. he promised the american people he would always tell the truth, good bed or otherwise. and he has shown to not be square. he has been contradicted by members of his own administration and reports on the ground. i think for those reasons, afghanistan has hurt him and really accelerated something

once people to deny what we are saying, what larry's has acknowledged for many months which is this impending doom of growing inflation. >> about half of the overall increase in grocery prices can be attributed to significant increase in prices and free products, and beef, and poor, and poultry. if you take out those three categories, we have actually seen price increases that are more in line with historical norms. >> laura: isn't everything trucked that gas is involved since it is doubled in price? i mean, we have all gone to the grocery store. orange juice, eggs, milk, everything. but will that line work? >> no. i don't think telling people that hamburgers or chicken sandwiches is going to make things better. a poll showed that 44% of americans, with a look to as a indicator for whether the economy is good or not, it's not

the stock market. it is what it cost for them at the kitchen table. would it cost to put food on the table. and as people are looking around, they are seeing these rising prices. i would also say that in addition to the competent tissue, one of the problems for the biden administration is many of these crises are self-created, self-inflicted. they are policy-base. situation of the border, what happened in afghanistan. these are choices made by the biden administration. they did not come out of the blue. he could say covid was inherited by even on that score they have created their own problems in regard to the issue. a lot of things are self-inflicted. >> laura: i am looking at this california recall and i know people like to say california lost it cannot recover. we don't know. but we do know kamala harris was there today and we know biden is going there apparently next week with a 39% approval rating.

what does he do for gavin newsom in california? is he truly a net positive a few days before that recall? >> i think that's a real question, laura. i am not sure that he is. frankly, you look at biden going out to california and you kind of see california as the test case for so many policies that democrats want to bring nationally, that they want to take to the whole country. and instead what we have seen is that california, the air quality is so bad and the jams are shut down. you can't go outside. you can exercise. you can't really live your life. california should be the golden state. it should be something that we all aspire to. it should be a symbol of greatness for america. instead, it's an embarrassment. and when we see the type of policies that gavin newsom has pursued, a lot of it is echoing the joe biden brings to the table. we are in a tailspin moment right now, not just with joe biden, but i think is true

for the democratic coalition. the coalition that you got together in 2020 including a lot of the suburban whites, well-educated women who turned against donald trump because of mean tweets and things like that, guess what, they are the same people who have signed talking about how much they love refugees in front of their houses. same people who are now turning against joe biden. i think you are seeing that coalition crumble in a very quick way. >> laura: and then there is footage out of california of people getting very worried apparently about larry elder. they called him a black face white supremacy last week. now they have someone wearing a gorilla mask who was caught egging larry elder. we have the video. >> leapt take your [bleep] hands off me. >> laura: i'm not sure if i was a covid-approved mask or

not, but they are getting our -- are not coasting to september 14th in california. >> no. the way that the media and folks on the ground as you just saw have been treating larry elder is just reprehensible and i think that speaks to the fact that -- the fact that gavin my gavin newsom is even in trouble in so much trouble right now i think is not a good omen for the democrats. i would add that joe biden's approval ratings right now -- california is a very blue state. if you look at places like arizona where mcauley is up for reelection, georgia, maggie maggie hassan in new hampshire where joe biden is underwater by ten points, that is a real concern for democrats in terms of holding onto the house or the senate next year if joe biden's approval ratings don't take back up. >> laura: joe "annville" biden. things are joining. and virginia has become ground zero for the last attack on history. not just critical race theory. state officials are telling

instrumental in reuniting the country. in fact, lee has long been respected and even admired by northerners and southerners alike. nowhere is that more obvious than in richmond where his statue towered over monument avenue for 131 years. of course that was until today. early this morning, his statue was taken down then cut in half and sent to a woman's prison on the orders of governor ralph "black place, north room. he called it part of the healing process to become a welcoming place. here with me now to give perspective is craig shirley, historian. diversity and inclusion, what do americans need to understand about lee and his place in history? >> they need a broad view. can't just focus on the civil war. need to focus on his work after the civil war. it requires a nuance of thinking
