faulkner focus". the president announcing that companies with more than 100 employees must now require workers to be fully vaccinated or to undergo weekly testing. he also announced all federal workers and contractors must be vaccinated or risk getting fired. the president says it is not about your freedom but this marks a drastic 180 for both president biden and his press secretary, jen psaki. here is what she used to say about vaccine mandates. >> president biden: no, i don't think they should be mandatory. i wouldn't demand it would be mandatory but do everything in my power. i don't think masks have to be made mandatory nationwide. i will do everything in my power as the president of the united states to encourage people to do the right thing. >> that's not the role of the federal government. that is the role that institutions, private sector entities and others may take. that certainly is appropriate. >> harris: and a lot of

response as you might imagine. mississippi governor is calling out the president's about face. >> the president and all of his team for months and months have been telling the american people they would never issue a vaccine mandate and once again this president has gone back on his word and has done the exact opposite. we live in america. you would expect words like that from the president, maybe of communist china or north korea but you don't expect words like that coming out of the mouth of the president of the united states. >> harris: check this out. a "new york post" op-ed pulling no punches. joe biden's incoherent fear mongering covid vaccine speech. in a moment we'll get reaction from dr. marc siegel in focus. i want to bring in mark meredith live at the white house. already some events there with the president. but all eyes on this president to see when exactly he might take a question or two. >> that's right.
8:03 am
the president wrapping up an event a few moments ago. yesterday when he unveiled several new steps he says to end this pandemic and the white house is hoping these new steps will make a big difference. critics argue the government is simply going too far trying to end all this and forcing these mandates. target is 80 million people in the country not vaccinated right now. the president once again blaming the lingering pandemic on those americans who have chosen so far not to get the shot. >> president biden: many of us are frustrated with the nearly 80 million americans still not vaccinated. even though the vaccine is safe, effective and free. >> what is the president doing here? he is going to have osha start a rule that requires companies with 100 employees or more mandate the vaccine or undergo weekly testing and expand the vaccine requirements for federal agencies, federal workers as well as contractors. we know medical workers that work at places that are tied to medicare or medicaid
8:04 am
reimbursement will be required to be vaccinated and also asking the concert halls, stadiums, event venues to ask people to prove they're vaccinated to go in and double the fines for people refuse to wear a mask, in public transportation. the white house says it is not all about rules and punishments. they want to make it easier for people to get the shot. employers will now be required to make sure people are paid time off to go get the vaccine as well as to recover if needed. and what's interesting is almost instantly after these announcements were made we heard so much reaction from republican governors vowing to fight it. moments ago president biden responded saying he is quote so disappointed in those republican governors but they argue they are standing up for their constituents and also hearing from the former vice president mike pence who once led the coronavirus task force right here at the white house. >> we have governors across the country what they needed and
8:05 am
when they needed and respected them to make the decisions best for their state. now to have a president not just scolding the american people but scolding governors around the country, it is just not the american way. >> we'll see if the white house has new reaction to former vice president pao*ens later on today. the white house is calling on governors to have schools require vaccinations. the fda says they're working around the clock to eventually get the vaccine approved for younger children but there is no timeline when it may happen. >> harris: with just a few words yesterday the president managed to hit in a sweet spot every single american in the united states from birth to 90. seriously, this affects everybody. >> you are right about that. >> harris: dr. marc siegel is in focus now. doctor of medicine and professor of medicine.

you and i have been together since the beginning of this pandemic calling balls and strikes. call this one. >> harris, i don't like how political this is. you just heard about it from mark meredith. all this warring about governors. it's not a legal or political story. it's a medical story. the vaccine protects you from severe disease and to some extent prevents others from it spreading to you. here is why the -- the president is saying that unvaccinated people are lepers. watch out for them. they are going to infect you. it is leaving out the fact that if you are vaccinated, harris, you are almost definitely no matter who you come in contact with are not going to end up in the hospital or end up dying or get severe disease. calling it a pandemic of the

of patience, imagine how small businesses and the rest of america feel about the pandemic, whether you are a vaccinated or not. we're running out of patience. we want freedom and freedom from the virus. not only is president biden imposing personal medical decisions on the public he is also, dr. siegel, telling parents how to parent their own children. >> president biden: for any parent it doesn't matter how low the risk of any illness or accident is when it comes to your child or grandchild, trust me, i know. so let me speak to you directly. the safest thing for your child 12 and over is to get them vaccinated. they get vaccinated for a lot of things. that's it. get them vaccinated. >> harris: trust me, he says.

they go to school. that will keep schools open. >> harris: when we travel with our corporation, fox, you can get a little kit and you can do this at home. it is not difficult. it is very quick. you send it out if you need to, depending on type of test it is. you get quick results. you can do it right there in your kitchen. dr. siegel quickly, there has been a lot of talk about joe biden not mandating things for his own staff at the white house. >> yeah. that's very concerning, too. that's the kind of hypocrisy and changing messages all the time that doesn't work. of course the white house needs to be a place where everybody is vaccinated and everybody is wearing masks. you can't get up at a podium and criticize other people unless you do it yourself. one more thing on this. it is not one size fits all. i want all health care workers vaccinated and everybody in contact with other people that could spread it vaccinated but it is not like every single

>> harris: republicans torching the move on twitter. lloyd smucker called it a massive government overreach. andy biggs an assault on american freedom. larry moore, we must fight back against medical tyranny. mo brooks tweeted liberty and freedom are at stake. matt schlapp and richard fowler. great to see you both. matt, top line thoughts. >> this is just crazy. if you look at the other vaccines for serious diseases that we have in this country, none of them have the type of survival rates we have when it comes to this particular virus. it is a very serious thing and great tragedy that people have died but we have something in this country, we have a written constitution. people like me we don't use drugs and chemicals that are defriefd research on feetal

american perish from a preventable virus. we have more hospitalizations across the country and deaths. we're almost turning the clock backwards when you think about the number of hospitalizations and deaths. don't get me wrong i'm not saying the president's words weren't a little stern, they were. i think we need to do everything in our power to insure we prevent the spread of covid-19 and one of the best ways to do this is through vaccinating more and more americans. >> harris: one day you and i will talk about this by extracting the politics, richard and talking about all the people of color like you and me resisting the vaccination because they don't trust the government. it is a whole separate issue and there are a lot of them. here is how biden ended yesterday's news conference. >> president biden: get vaccinated. [shouted questions] >> harris: what?

matt. >> you have know, you don't make a strong case when you are unwilling to take any questions. i know for a lot of people president trump rubbed them raw because he was constantly in the face of the media answering questions. some people could say maybe he was overexposed. but the idea that -- if richard is right that this is the health emergency that it is, then he ought to take some questions. if this is the health emergency that it is, don't always have the politicians talk. let doctors talk. what we see on social media is doctors who disagree are being throttled. that makes people wonder what's really going on here. >> harris: it is an open conversation that's necessary. as i just mentioned, richard, people are coming at this unvaccinated or vaccinated from different directions. a few seconds left. your last thought. >> i have a lot of healthcare folks in my life and my mom and people in my life doctors and nurses. what they say on the front
