have been told pose a major threat to us in the united states. but no longer, they are our partners now. the biden administration explained and even open to coordinating with the taliban on counterterrorism strikes against our new enemy, a shadowy group that may or may not actually exist called isis k. >> we don't know what the future of the taliban is. but i can tell you from personal experience, that this is a ruthless group from the past. whether or not they change remains to be seen. as far as our dealings with them at that airfield or in the past year or so in the war, you do what you must. in order to reduce risk to mission and force, not what you necessarily want to do. >> any thoughts of coordination with the taliban on isis k? >> it's possible. >> because when you're fighting isis k, no holds are barred. the first of his coordinated attacks against isis k arrived

three weeks ago, it was august 29th. that was days after 13 american servicemen were killed in a bombing at the kabul airport. a date you remember well. at the time even democrats were pointing out the obvious, joe biden is senile and totally incompetent. the administration at that moment desperately needed something to prove they are not senile and incompetent, they are instead decisive and strong. what better way to do that than to kill people. they bombed a white toyota in a residential complex not far from the kabul airport. the white house cited that strike as over the horizon. he strongly agreed that this wau a good thing. >> at this point, we think the procedures were correctly followed. and it was a righteous strike. >> everyone in washington agreed.

one unnamed u.s. defense official described it to jennifer griffin this way quote multiple suicide bombers struck by u.s. drones today in kabul. significant explosives in the area led to second explosions. they belong to isis k and they were en route to the airport. so it's perfect, all the bad people were dead, all those isis k operatives, and virtually every news organization in the country credited this account. the washington post assigned five reporters i to the story ty dug deep and concluded that biden's drone attack had hit an islamic state target. on television, where there's mostly no reporting at all, they just read the paper and repeat it. not a single person seemed very skeptical of this. >> our ability to demonstrate effectively that we can strike

such targets, we can strike them from outside afghan borders which is a critical part of the biden plan. once we withdraw. this over the horizon capability was demonstrated and was effective. >> you called this strike remarkable. >> this is a realization of what president biden calls the overes the horizon strategy. >> the military event today is so much more than just a single drone strike. it is a projection of power. it is a message from the united states governments that even though we are leaving, we are not done with counterterrorism operations. even though we're going to have to do this as we say over the horizon from remote locations and it's far more challenging, we can still do it. >> keep in mind, every single one of the people you just saw speaking knew nothing, literally nothing about this drone strike other than what they read on twitter. they were totally ignorant, and that did not prevent them as it never does, from trying to sound totally authoritative.

that is our news coverage. a few people started to ask the obvious questions for example, who exactly had the u.s. military killed. when asked the defense department wouldn't say.pa oh, that might have been a tip. they also showed no proof of those secondary explosions that proved the vehicle was being driven lby isis k suicide bombers. and said, they were real, we know, and the rest of us have to take his word for it. that is exactly the line.. >> two quick questions if i may. on the strike against the vehicle, the central command talked about secondary explosions. you actually have visual evidence that there were secondary explosions.

are different from bombs in that they don't explode, even secondarily. finally this afternoon the biden administration was forced to stop lying. here is the head of the u.s. central command. >> we thoroughly reviewed the findings of the investigation and the supporting analysis by t interagency partners and i am now convinced that as many as two civilians, including up to seven children were tragically killed in that strike. moreover, we now assess that it is unlikely that the vehicle and those who died were associated with isis k or a direct threat to u.s. forces. >> okay. after consulting with our interagency partners, all of whom get that new york times deliverednc at home, we are admitting that we lied to you for weeks about what we actually did. it wasn'tu isis k, there were no suicide bombers there were no secondary explosions, it was kids and water bottles. most tellingly, general mckenzie declined to any consequences for this either for

the killing of children, or for the lying about it for weeks? now why is that? we think we know. back on september 1st, mark milley explained the drone strike wasn't out of the ordinary, it followed the very same procedures that every other drone strike over the last 20 years in afghanistan. >> we had very good intelligence that isis k was preparing a specific type vehicle and a specific type location. we monitored that through various means, and all of the engagement was being met, we went through the same level of rigor we have done for years and we took a strike. >> we had very goodor intelligence. this same kind of intelligence that leden us to believe german educated saudi's would never fly planes into buildings. were a field in pennsylvania. the intelligence that told us the berlin wall was about to fall. the same intelligence that told

us kabul was safe. the government would stand, that intelligence. so the drone strike of august 29th that killed a car fullen of children underwent the same level of rigor that we have done for years. that's not very reassuring. you will not find more revealing statement about our pentagon leaders. it explains why no one has been punished for this disaster. if you fire mark milley for killing a bunch of kids unintentionally and lying about it, may be the accountability chain will start. maybe they will fire whoever it left hundreds of american civilians behind in afghanistan. in light about that. sobe you can't start firing people because they're terrible at their jobs. you can't fire anyone. joe kent was a green beret in the army special forces, his wife also served in the military and was killed in an actual isis attack. joke kant is joining

to represent the state of washington in congress. he joins us tonight. thank you so much for coming on. so no one is being punished for this once again. what does that tell you? >> it tells us pretty much everything we need to know. i think from the onset here, it's evident that the dod, the military had no plan to withdraw, and they have really been throwing a tantrum ever since. that's evident in the way that the withdrawala went great and that we had this narrative that the taliban is one of two things. they can be our new counterterrorism partner with that will become to transfer more wealth, or that the taliban cannot be trusted as the strike is proven and now we need to go back in. this over the horizon capability that joe biden talks about and i think there is some validity to, it's not a boon for the military industrial complex. when they were looking at the strike criteria for this strike it was win-win for them. if it went well, it proved that the taliban could be partners, if it went bad, then oh well we have to go back and. sthey're is no accountability ad there is no actual onus on them

devastating for this country. speaking for myself, if this had happened 15 or 20 years ago, i might have thought, well people get things wrong. now, we are not in that position because the politicized nation, this politicization of the american military and the american intelligence agencies has meant they are completely transparent to you, me, all of the american public. their reputation for competency is shot, their reputation for trustworthiness is shot. the reputation of being believable is completely shot. general milley, we've seen this with the afghan army, he kept saying not just in july, but for years claims about the afghan army that we're totally wrong. he said in july they could stans on their own. totally wrong. we discovered just a few days he was conspiring with his chinese counterpart. he behaved as if americari was a military junta when generals can just speak to other countries and say you don't need to listen

trump supporters with trump flags on their cars. it's their taliban and our taliban. what are we meant to think when we seeir former directors of the nsa and cia saying that supporters of president trump are exactly analogous with the taliban in afghanistan. all these people have made total fools of themselves in recent years. the american people are right to be saying what have we been paying for? what is this expertise we've been expecting? where is the competency. and then went something like this happens, we don't just think well, bad things happen in war, no, we think what have people been paying for all these decades? what have all these american service personnel been paying for with their lives when? we have incompetency of this kind at every level at the top. the people serving in the americanan armed forces are not incompetent. the people at the top seem to be, many good people are in the
