$15 million for resource centers for all the people with sexual gender identity issues. how far can moderate democrats vote for this and think they have any chance in the swing districts come next year? >> i don't think the moderates can vote for this. there realizing pelosi is trying to shift gears, to go back on her word and say we need to vote for the infrastructure bill first and then we will get to the budget reconciliation bill later. the fact of the matter is the american people had enough time to digest this bill. it is a massive tax increase that will lead to massive inflation. it funds programs like gender equity for senior citizens that aren't even talking about. equity, electrifying the federal fleet, this is unnecessary spending at a time when the federal government could tighten its belt, the government spending needs to get under control, that should be one of the highest priorities in

there aren't enough busters to make the rounds. south carolina mom joins me to discuss how the labor shortages impacting parents and students. thanks for being here. how dire is the situation? >> it is definitely improved, the first week of school was pretty rough. i would say my daughter's first day of school, she was supposed to write home at 4:12, i got a notice from the principal at 4:30 and ultimately she came home at 5:45 so it was a long bus ride. >> as a parent not really knowing where your kid is and why your kid is not home what is going through your mind when that happens? >> nora 10 years old, she's the big kid on the bus. i wasn't so worried about her safety, bus drivers are excellent, i speak with them, make sure they know who i am when she's getting on and off the bus so i wasn't so worried about her safety as much as

where is she, and there are little kids on the bus, 4 and 5-year-olds to have never been in school before so i'm sure for those parents it is a whole other experience. >> the districts are trying, who do you blame for this? >> that's a tough one. our district here, we hire, it is a private bus company so it is not run through the school and they are not employed through the school district, whether that is a factor or not i don't know. i really feel for the bus drivers, i know they are overrun, running multiple roots so i certainly don't blame them. i think they are doing the best they can with the cards they are dealt. laura: look at the situation run the country, several school districts offering to pay parents for pickup and drop-off, it's berg public schools delayed academic year, massachusetts

deployed national guard to drive the kids to school. how much more can middle-class families take? >> for me i own my own business, i own a body studio in charleston, i'm the sole employee. the bus is late i also have a son so i have to get my daughter on the bus, drive them to school and if i'm late that is a client lost. it does affect income ultimately. it can be hard. i am one of several parents out there relying on the bus in order to get to work and it is a big snowball effect. todd: are you worried the combination of extra roots and cash drivers, trying to train brand-new drivers could put child safety at risk? >> i haven't had a negative experience.

one thing i will say is ideally want that bus driver to know your child's face and know your face and hopefully know their name so the child is always accounted for and when there is always a sub stepping in and a new driver that relationship isn't happening. that is a concern. laura: todd: we talked to business owners throughout the country that say the fact the government is giving out so much free money is keeping so many workers on the sidelines and that includes bus drivers. how much of a factor do you think that is in not just your district but throughout the country, the inability to get your kids to school? >> here in south carolina as far as government relief and relationship to covid i know that has played a role in employees not getting back to work, that's not the case here. the funding was cut a while ago so i'm not really sure what is

attorney bill brennan. thanks for being here. this is the highest number of homicides at this point in time in the year in more than a decade. that is alarming. this isn't a 70 in philadelphia. we are seeing spiking numbers across the country but this is a city you live in and work in. what do these numbers say to you? >> good morning and thanks for having me. numbers say to me we are trending too high for this time of year. historically we have had homicides in the hundreds in the month of september is a first. i agree with the district attorney something has to be done. the difference is i think he has to be the one to come up with the thing to do. it is great to have partners but ultimately it is his call as to what changes need to be made to

make the city safer. >> there were 499 homicides in 2019356, 2018353, we are seeing these numbers skyrocket and the sad part about this but we are seeing play out on city streets across the country is a lot of younger victims in these situations. >> that is true especially in philadelphia, last week with the press conference with the mayor district attorney and during the conference there was a shooting within earshot that you could hear on camera. a thing to revisit is we have a commissioner a couple decades ago believes in prosecuting quality-of-life crimes, writing atvs in the midst of traffic, you start from the bottom up. that's not the policy of the current administration but when that policy, there did seem to

be a collateral benefit and that would spiral crime. jillian: of title offices in philadelphia who were friends for obvious reasons can't talk about this but we've had conversations and part of the question i think people have, is it beneficial and would it even be possible with the police commissioner, an old-school style of policing where you walk the be, have these relationships with people in these neighborhoods, what is being done and what has been done over the course of the last few years is not working. >> i agree and it seems to go the opposite trend, from the cop on the beat to an enemy camp, the neighborhood versus local police station and that can never work. for effective policing to take place especially a large metropolitan city there has to be some type of relationship between the community and the police department. i would think perhaps starting

as you suggested with more visible controls or bike patrols, would be a positive step toward healing the relationship between the police and the community. jillian: your police officers on our street certainly not the answer. is there anything this attorney - the district attorney can do to remedy the situation? >> as indicated in the press conference, he is open to suggestions but that is not good enough. he has to be the one to come up with a plan of action. he's the district attorney. you can find a lot of crime numbers but you can't fund homicide numbers. it is directly relatable to a dead body. we are likely to crack 500. it is a crisis at this point. jillian: we've seen in
