thanks for being with us today. we heard about the difficulty getting toys and other household goods this christmas but haven't thought about trees. you say it is down to a perfect storm. explain. >> it started back in 2012 when we experienced significant drought across the us. when that happened a number of the new planted baby trees died. it takes 8 to 10 years to grow a christmas tree so you fast forward to today and that is when these trees would be available for cutting. the last couple years, less than adequate moisture so haven't got growth the trees. we saw some of these issues coming and prepared for from inventory management knowing we would have less stock and bridge the gap but this year we add on top of the labor issue which is a lot of forestry going to get their trees out of the field to get cut and loaded on trucks

when there's a trucking shortage. everything came together to create the perfect storm. benjamin: talk to me about the labor shortages? in the past people come in and help you supply them. is that dried up this year? >> it is a struggle. we are running a shorter period than normal. someone calls in sick we will be done another person going into black friday. it is a challenge to get people to come and work. benjamin: looking ahead how does the future look in your business? >> most of us learned from the past, we are planting more trees and trying to be prepared. the tough part with christmas trees is it is not a decision to affect one or 2 years out, you need to plan 8 to 10 years out. benjamin: some of these

statistics amazed me was 94 million us households with the christmas tree last year but 85% of those were fake, 15% live. i had no idea it was that much. are you seeing that number shift and more people buying fake trees now? >> this year you will see a shift back to fake trees but the last couple years we've seen an increase in demand, pretty good movement across the country to get back to local and farm fresh but we are afraid we will lose the moment in if we don't have a supply to provide people. benjamin: talk about the prices. we are talking about how prices are rising across various sectors. how do you think christmas tree prices are rising? >> across the industry up anywhere from 5% to 50% depending on the location and what is driven by the cost of fertilizer, cost of labor is up, cost of trucking and everything we are utilizing has gone up significantly.

our complicated past there is a movement to now cancel thanksgiving. what do you make of it? >> it's disheartening, it really is, because there is a change in national mood. these leftists and these liberals are trying to pull god and spirituality completely out of our country. in every segment of our society. and it's ridiculous. this is the time to celebrate our freedoms pray over our families and friends and communities. give thanks for the many blessings that we all have in the united states. you know, you start taking your blessings for granted they slowly slip away before your eyes, i think in so many different ways that's happening to the most underserved americans, i got a chance to spend thanksgiving yesterday with about 100 folks at our center, praying together, enjoying each other and that's what this nation is about. it's about folks of all races coming together and celebrating everything that's good. and so when these universities start indoctrinating our kids, it's time for the adults to

stand up against that and so i just encourage everybody to speak louder, stay more faithful. pray louder and claim the name of jesus christ over this land. carley: no surprise those statements were made on college campuses because a lot of these anti-american ideas start there. and they affect young people. and young people's outlook on america. how do we fight back against these ideas? you say that, you know, adults need to get together and pray together. expand upon that idea a little bit? because i think this is really important how to fight back against these anti-american ideas? >> i will tell you it starts with the kids. we have to get in the community and start to let the kids understand the importance of spirituality. we can't run away from our past. we can't run away from the bad things that have happened in history. but you have to highlight the positive and have to show the
