more on him in just a bit. in less than a year, the only unity this white house has restored is against them. other polls have those numbers much lower. but it's not just the white house feeling the heat. potential midterm voters are favoring republican candidates over democrats generically by a 10% margin. even higher margin than in their red wave midterm elections of 1994 and 2010. nancy pelosi knows she will be giving up the gavel very soon. more time for fancy haircuts and delicious ice cream. >> so what is a failing political party to do in order to get back in america's good graces or regain political advantage? maybe create a panic and try to exploit it? could the left be using omicron to forced vaccine push on freedom-loving americans? >> with the new omicron variant sweeping the globe how do we

finally put an end to this pandemic? how do we save lives and get business back to normal so everybody can put dinner on the table? simple. the federal government needs to require vaccines. including booster shots for everyone in america. >> pete: i think he said the quiet part out loud there, jim. he whispered in that clip but he does yell a lot. you see, this is the left's playbook to create new fears and then capitalize on them to continue their big government assault. telling you only they can keep you safe. joe biden announced yesterday that no new lockdowns or mandates are coming but, man, haven't we heard that one before? >> will vaccines be mandatory. >> no, i don't think it should be mandatory. i wouldn't demand it to be mandatory. >> the department of labor is developing an emergency rule to require all employers with 100 or more employees that together

employ over 80 million workers to ensure their workforces are fully vaccinated. >> pete: well, that was a bit of a bait and switch. they lied about vaccine mandates. why wouldn't they lie? why wouldn't they reverse course on lockdowns? zero percent credibility means it's time for 100 percent fear. and it's not just the white house. as state government they're already on the move. just look at new york where i happen to sit right now. where governor kathy hochul has already preemptively declared a state of emergency. saying, quote: we continue to see warning signs of spikes in covid this winter. and while the new omicron variant has yet to be detected in new york state, it's coming. today i signed an executive order to help the department of health boost hospital capacity ahead of potential spikes. omicron hasn't even arrived yet and democrats are already tightening their grip on executive power. see, first comes the state of

maximum fear as it pertains to omicron. the reaction of democrats preemptively. where does this go and how do freedom loving americans stand to thwart it. >> well, never in the history of calm down has anyone who has been told to calm down actually calmed down. >> pete: that's true. >> so i'm not going to tell people to calm down. i am going to suggest respectfully that people get the facts, particularly before government at all levels tries to recovery react. fact number 1, viruses mutate. this is not the first mutation that we have had. and there is no guarantee that this omicron mutation is going to spread throughout the world. some mutations stay local. like brazil's gamma mutation. number two, it does appear that the new variant is very contagious. are most of the variants. >> so the protocol hasn't

changed. if you care to, consult your doctor about getting the vaccine and getting a booster. you don't have to but you should consider it, especially if you are elderly or you are immunocompromised. anybody three, if you do get it, it appears that some, not all, but some of our antiviral drugs won't work as well as they do with other variations. but, what many of them aren't saying is that we have other antiviral drugs. >> pete: yes. >> already developed that we think can address this thing. number 4. to answer your question directly. we have learned a lot, pete, during the coronavirus. and one of the things that we have learned, unfortunately, is that power doesn't change people, it just unmasks them we

have elected officials in this country who have used the pandemic as a pretext to exercise their power gratuitously and to consolidate their power gratuitously at the expense of our personal freedoms. and i think they are probably not probably there are some people in president biden's administration that are like that. i mean, they will shut down everything at the slightest excuse and they don't care if you end up homeless on the beach eating seaweed. so my point is that we got to be -- we have got to stick to the facts but we have got to be vigilant and we have got to ask tough questions and push back if some of our public officials are overreacting because, frankly, this isn't the first mutation

and it's not going to be the last. we will have to learn for a while to live with this stuff absolutely, no one is suggesting myself or others have suggested that there are advantages for democrats to control the fact that new variants are rolled out. nobody wants new variants but is it right to have suspicion that new variants even beyond omicron could be used in election year to justify even less restraint on the people vote at the ballot box considering how things are done constitutionally in 2020? >> sure, yes. that's not conjecture, that's based ons experience we have had in the last two years. and really, that is one of the major differences today in my judgment between democrats and republicans. democrats trust government. they believe that the manage

general lee in d.c. is all knowing and smarter and more virtuous than anybody else. republicans trust people. and i trust people to assess the facts and to make decisions for themselves and their families. my democratic many not all but many of my democratic friends don't. they think they need to run your life for you. >> pete: certainly and a pandemic gives them every reason to do so. senator john kennedy we trust you to do it and you did. thank you so much. appreciate it also here tonight brit hume fox news senior political analyst. brit, thanks for being here. over archingly as you look at the moment we live in. the way omicron is being characterized the political implication and health implications where are we and where do you think we go in light hough holds control of the country right now. >> i'm tempted to say here we go again because we made a great many mistakes in the original

handling of this virus and impose measures that had such devastating side effects that they did great harm to the country without actually succeeding and shutting down the virus. so let us all hope that we're not going to go there again. the early signs from the biden white house are that they don't want to do any shut downs. but, i think they will be -- there will be people agitating for more shut downs, particularly in the school for randi weingarten and american federation of teachers who seem very much opposed to reopening the schools for all she claims to the contrary. so, these are things to keep an eye on. as we go forward here to see if this does turn into another freak out of the kind that we had before which led to what i thought was the worst public policy decisions of our lifetime namely the shutdowns of schools and businesses. >> pete: brit, as always, you are ahead of us. we have a tweet from randi weingarten today. there was a "new york times" he had torlg that was maximum fear as it pertained to omicron.

she retweeted it saying read every word. omicron is coming. the u.s. must act now. if you have a kid in the state who was first on zoom, and then now is still masked up even though teachers otherwise vaccinated and you read something like that, is your life going to change or is omicron just another reason for weingarten to maintain control. >> well, i think you have to worry about her. she really did seem to like that period of time when the teachers were not really teaching in schools if at all and were being fully paid. she maintained there was terrible danger in the offing if they closed the schools down there. are a number of things, pete that we thought at the beginning of this that turned out not to be true. but there are several things that have been true and we have known them all along. one of them is that young children are largely invulnerable to this disease. not 100 percent invulnerable but

largely so. so the risk to them is really no greater than the fluidity, not as great as the flu. and, yet, we shut the schools down. that was for the benefit of the teachers, not for the benefit of the students. we have also known, pete, all along, that the elderly were uniquely vulnerable to this disease, and i think required special measures and special protections, not a one size fits all action that encompassed everybody and did so much collateral damage. >> pete: brit, you know, you break down politics better than anybody, when you look at the political implications of this. we showed the approval ratings. everybody knows they are down. covid was supposed to be their strength. here comes a variant. do they look at how people reacted to their previous approach and adjust or did they think what they did before is what voters are going to want? >> i think that the feeling is that a lot of these politicians, the president chief among them have promised to shut the virus down. that their job was to basically conquer the virus, to reduce it to zero. to basically eliminate it as a

source of concern and worry. that's proven to be an extremely difficult goal to achieve because as several wise people have said over and over again the verizon is going to virus. this thing is going to spread. they do. you have to protect the most vulnerable. the question is whether you let everybody else get on with their lives or not. but i think that the sense that these politicians have is here comes a variant. we don't want to soon seen not to be doing enough. and, remember, they have as a constituency people who think that the government can deal with these things. expect the government to. the democratic party is the party of government. so, you know, when you look at them can you say yeah, they want to grab power and i think many of them have a taste for it remember, they think they are vulnerable to people who think they are not doing enough. people in their own party. so that's, i think, with a lot of them are coming from. >> pete: double masks with face shields double mask. brit hume, thank you, appreciate it. >> thanks, pete. >> pete: chris cuomo has been suspended indefinitely.

>> pete: we are back with a fox news alert. cnn indefinitely suspending anchor chris cuomo from their very low rated network. in comes after newly released texts revealed that chris was deeply involved in the clean-up and cover-up of his governor brother's mess. now, i, for one, am shocked by this news. apparently this morning's impassioned plea by the ladies at "the view," all fans of the cuomos, went nowhere. >> it's not illegal.

it's ethically questionable. now, would we all have walked that path? perhaps. if my brother was in trouble, i don't know how far i would go. is it illegal? i don't think so. i think he is a brother. he wanted to help his brother. i'm not going to be judge and jury of the guy. all i'm saying is that i didn't understand the inclination to help your brother. wanted continued obsession with russia. ladies of "the view" said not illegal but ethical questionable. they wanted to find every reason to say that chris cuomo could stay but tonight he's out. >> it's just amazing what cnn has done with chris cuomo. i find it interesting they say he is suspended. the last high profile person that they suspended was jeffrey toobin. they kept him off mayor for months been caught pleasuring himself during a work meeting. that wasn't enough to fire him. this isn't enough to fire cuomo. they are just suspending him. the problem for him, for cuomo, is that he really served one purpose which to help pump up his brother as a viable alternative to donald trump so they covered up all of the nursing home deaths that his brother was responsible for. they painted him as an effective handler of the covid pandemic when he wasn't. and now that that's done, now that trump is no longer in office, they no longer feel that he is useful, the governor is no longer useful, so he is gone.

[laughter] >> they are actually typically the prosecutor, judge, jury. so that -- and public defender. as for chris cuomo even at cnn could be a fair minded reporter who doesn't get involved. he crossed that line. the thing is he obviously

crossed the line. he did it months ago. and when cnn in their statement today said there was more to the story that they learned today from the a.g.'s emails, i think it's pretty clear cnn didn't go looking for the full story when this originally broke. because the information about just how active chris cuomo was on behalf of his brother has been there for all to see for several, several months. it's a slap in the face today and they had no choice. >> pete: mollie, does cnn really believe they have journalistic standards at this point? is this them trying to demonstrate that or is them just saying we can't? >> yeah, i mean, this is an issue for a network that really did use to have a reputation for handling news. that reputation left years ago. you look at how they handled, for instance, the russia collusion story, that they really got going four years ago by putting out the dossier that was jake tapper, nothing has happened to him. i don't think he has repented of his role in the russia collusion lies. so many people at the network

were pushing out stories day after day, week after week, month after month. they will haven't been held to account. the idea that cnn cares at all about journalistic integrity is just a joke. and it has been a joke ever since, you know, for years. but letting chris cuomo cover his brother while his brother was the subject of major news never should have been allowed. that's beyond what any sibling can do. and they had no problem with it so long as it was being used to advance democratic party objectives because that's basically all they do now. >> pete: ari, over under two days where if you took that time slot you would have higher ratings than chris cuomo. >> well, i'm not sure if that's a compliment or not. >> pete: if is, of course it is ari. >> you know, the problem with journalism today is it's become activism for a cause. that's particularly the case for cnn. that's what has led them into the ratings doldrums that they are. in it's also led to this ethical mixing where anchors there feel comfortable going on this line and they shouldn't do it.

maybe kind of, sort of chris cuomo? no more publishing emails or haunting photos from the past or text messages with the assistants and brother, governor. continues to keep censoring hunter's laptop from hell it no longer matters that the ultimate media -- any alternate media covering the phone happening in public if it contains information that the public should be aware of. and say goodbye to the twitter account. twitter accounts lived like tiktok you may have seen it humorous account takes already publicly published videos from liberals on tiktok and reposts them on twitter for all of us to see. the owner can now have it taken down. the liberal who originally posted it. even though they published it online and should want millions of people to hear, you know, their preferred gender pronouns or the latest climate hysteria. it gives the social media platform even more control, which is scary.

they profit off of us. i promise you they are not going to stop doing any of that stuff. and at the end of the day, pete, here's the deal. the last thing america needs is another big tech robber baron who doesn't care anything for free speech that's exactly what twitter is giving us. >> pete: aren't they just saying out loud what we have known all along whether it's critical race theory in the classroom called diversity, equity and inclusion and talk about the groups marginalized and need different protections than everybody else. if a certain person points a camera at somebody, that's different than another certain person and it all depends on your sexual orientation or your gender or your race. they are just saying exactly what they know they have been doing all along. >> well, that's exactly right. it's a classic what's become the rule of the left which is rules for thee but not for me. you know, they don't follow their own standards. they never do. here is the other thing about twitter. it doesn't matter what they write down. they don't follow any of the rules anyway. they make it up as they go along. the worst part is you can't go to to court to enforce it currently twitter has immunity.
