get out and dig out if you got snow. if you are in massachusetts you probably have quite a bit of snow. it's about 20 degrees here in plymouth, round that of boston is well-paid chilly but you can still get out there and dig today for sure. you mention the boston numbers, 23.6 that is the single day snow total hi, but stoughton the town a little south of the city of boston really got the biggest snow totals, over 30 inches 30.9. a number of communities out over 2 feet part of the course of the storm there is 100,000 plus people without power the utility crews came in from all across the country ahead of time. they have been out there trying to get the lights back on, try to get people get the heat back on. with this appointment time there's tens of thousands without power. lieutenant governor weighed in on that this morning. >> and many restorations have been made, thanks to the great work of utilities pre-staging, having the crews available really made a difference to

turn on power or they could. >> most of the power outages are south of the city of boston the south shore and cape of the islands i am reporting according to the nema map massachusetts emergency app, but 80% the population are still without power, mike. mike: glad to see whether their hat and gloves on taking proper precautions. molly, be on the snowy streets we've heard coastal flooding is a concern as well. what about that? >> and pretty impressive video coming in over the course of the weekend. a lot of flooding part here in plymouth they had some flooding but also nantucket. take a look at the incredible video the water just gushing in i think it's in downtown nantucket. thankfully the water is mostly receded there on the island. but there is a warning center set up a nantucket high school people still without power some the streets they're still frozen and flooded. the nantucket current an incredible job of getting some of those pictures out.

hundred thousands are roughly little bit more than 40000 people were out. the utilities were able to restore power from centralized locations pretty expeditiously to a point now we have fewer than 100 customers out. so we are grateful for that. and now we are in fulton mop up stage which is made a little more difficult because the temperature has dropped considerably. it is more of an excavation then he mopping up a. >> mr. mayor what's the best advice for people in your community and neighboring community in the hours ahead? >> well, tell folks the greater new bedford if you can stay off the roads, please do that. if you happen to see a downed power line call 911 will have emergency personnel deal with it. stay away from the water. we had a little bit of coastal flooding. probably more importantly their fleet was able to get

back safely that's a big deal here new bedford put it all and are we are okay. but there is still work to be done. mike: are set up report we saw some pretty substantial flooding. flooding not a serious concern your community? >> no, we had a little bit of flooding in low-lying areas. we have a large and dust record it's the largest fishing port in the united states. the port infrastructure is raised up that is less of an issue parts really the big issue concerned water is making sure mariners get back in safely. that appears to have happened. mike: i can hear for your voice you're probably a native of that part of the country, give us some context, how big is the storm compared to some you seen in your lifetime? >> i would say this is the largest one we have seen in the last 20 years. in terms of the intensity of the snowfall and the suddenness of it all. it came down steadily, without interruption and piled up.

might member the house foreign affairs and armed services committee, chrissy haulahan. congressman welcome. >> thank you. mike: you're back from a bipartisan delegation to ukraine for what your big takeaways from your trip? >> a couple big takeaways. one is a message for the american people that we are very much in interconnected planet as we've seen recently as a result of the pandemic and supply chain issues as well as changes in a global market and because of that, what happens in ukraine very much matter and should be important to the american people. so what i bring back from the week or so we spent there isblet the ukrainians as they defend their nation in a democracy. and the consequence they defend democracy across the continent of europe and beyond that as well. mike: as an air force veteran, thank you for your service. do you think the tents a showdown right now has a cold war feel to it? >> very much so.

in fact they served in the air force in the '90s and late '80s. that was in fact the tail end of the cold war. it feels very, very familiar and something that is worrisome because how familiar it feels. importantly again to the american people this is pretty darn unusual prey that are between 120,000 and 130,000 troops amassed as you mentioned at the border of belarus and around ukraine as well as it mediterranean. this if you can compare an example to the fact we had five or so thousand people in afghanistan as an example. so wondered 30,000 troops is something to be thinking about and alarmed by i believe. c7 to present biden called to ask for your on ukraine what would you tell him? >> a couple of things. one is, we very much need to take lessons from the past, lessons from history. we have been here before as an american people a couple of times and for the european continent. and we have been asked to come

and we have come in a couple of times of war to defend and protect democracy. this is another instance where we may be asked to do that as well. what i would tell him no as at no point did they ask the ukrainian people ask whether ukrainian government for troops or boots on the ground. they did ask for sanctions for they did ask for humanitarian and military help. they asked for these kinds of things i believe the american public should be interested and willing to give because we need to make sure we are protecting it really fragile democracy that is on the edge of the russian. mike: is a very tense time the two foreign-policy hotspot north korea has now conducted more missile tests, seven in january than it did all of last year. what should the united states do about the regime in north korea right now? >> again, this is also interconnected pay what happens in ukraine, what happens in eastern europe is deafly going to be watched by our folks in china and by folks in korea, north korea in

particular. we need to make sure we are work with all of the diplomatic tools that we have, with all the tools that we have with our allies as well to make sure we are keeping all of these different aligned influences in check. i think they are not unrelated to think that is one thing that is important for the american people to see and understand. >> do you think with so much attention on putin and ukraine right now, that is why the north koreans are behaving badly? they are crying out for attention? [certainly not beyond their behavior in the past to do something such as that. and certainly, pollutant in particular is in some ways taking advantage of, tension been called to other parts of the world for other reasons rainouts part of his as well pretty very much depends on us, the american people looking the other way and being exhausted and feeling as though this is not their warpage is very much depending on that. we need to show him that we are unified both democrats and

really one does not need to be. >> you have expressed concerns about america statue on the world stage right now, can you explain that? >> definitely. mike if you look back at the debacle in afghanistan and the snow with a way to describe it as a total disaster. that was the beginning of a curtain being pulled back on this nations port foreign-policy which now governments like putin, like china and again north korea are sensing weakness in this particular administration. these dictators, they understand that weakness is a time to act. that is exactly that they are doing their becoming as we have seen and rush itself and using a time now when they sense the weakness of this particular administration and this particular president to act and try to achieve their foreign policy goals they wanted to achieve for quite some time. >> i do not need to tell you this, very little bipartisanship now and capitol hill and across washington. are some of these foreign-policy hotspots places where there could be at least some bipartisanship in this town?

>> i pray that there is michael. unfortunately have a speaker right now bipartisanship i should say bipartisanship is the way she acts i pray that we can actually come together as a democracy and understand that our job in this world is to defend other democracies in a way that they need, that is not going to be the american way of life shoving it down people's throats but to actually listen, understand situations and act accordingly. we are worried now about the ukrainian border look with this administration is done to our southern border. we are being attacked and overrun in a southern border but there does not seem to be any concern again about the self-inflicted crisis by this particular administration for. >> is a member of the doctors cocked us let's talk over the cdc reports new cases in the u.s. down 17% from a week ago. how do you assess where we are in the fight against covid? >> it is been a long battle, mike is been a very, very tough time for this country. over 800,000 americans have died. but in that same vein, we have also lost so many lives due to

our reactions to covid of isolation, subsequent depression and substance abuse. it's been a difficult battle. unfortunately i'm just going to say this as a physician, the message and put forth by this administration by dr. fauci in particular has a creative and much more political divide during this pandemic than ever it needed to be. we have lost eight, america's loss of faith and its medical institutions when they see the decisions have been made according to politics, not rather to science but i do hope and pray that this omicron is the beginning of the end of this. even though it last week just as many americans died from omicron as dig in the highest peak and delta. it's not over with, but again we need to understand this is something this going to be with us for a while and we need to learn to live with it and stop trying to run from it. mike: doctor jim some advice for those suffering from covid fatigue suffering for the masks and more? >> i do this is a difficult time because depression has skyrocketed substance abuse has skyrocketed mental health and home abuse and things like

major u.s. cities progressive policies are under the microscope let's bring our panel kevin walling, democratic strategist and vince coglianese executive editor, welcome too. >> kevin, what more do democratic leaders and beyond need to do about this crime crisis? >> certainly it is a crisis, mike i'm happy to see the president going to new york city on thursday to meet directly with the mayor to tackle some of these issues. they talk about ghost guns for example, reforming the bail which has released a lot of violent criminals on the streets at certainly something democrats and republicans seem to work on together. because this is a crisis that affects all of us. that's one of the reasons why i support a present biden during the primary for my party is he's always stood by the police, provided three to $50 billion in direct aid to local and state governments. as part of the american rescue plan actually funding police. this is a crisis that's hitting our cities, urban areas are suburban areas this president is committed to do something about it.

>> vince what is your assessment? >> one of the big problems we have is democrat run cities, although kevin is right there is debate within his party. unfortunately too many of the people who are on the side of a weakness against criminals are running the show in the democrat cities. you can look across the country you are discovering we are looking at homicide rates there hitting records we have never seen before in many of the cities and some we've not seen since the 1990s. this while we have the so-called progressive prosecutors at the helm a pretty look at alvin bragg in new york, he comes into office this year end the first thing he does is say that he wants to go easier on hardened criminals he wants to make it so there is no life without parole for cop killers. sure enough this week you see that awful moment officer at rivera's a widow getting up at that funeral and expressing her anguish at that district attorney. she quite clearly believes this is resulting in cops

being killed not a situation you understand the crime crisis and people may not feel secure a lot of the american major cities? >> we absolutely do. this should transcend politics. they are looking everything to the midterm lens certainly. perfect weight loss those officers tragically that's right response on the streets of new york fundamentally rejects a lot of the work these days are doing but we need to correct and violent criminals we need to make sure we reform the built system that keep individuals behind bars based on the situation in wisconsin for example. with that horrible situation with the man killing so many on the streets with his car. that person, there it has no business being on the streets.

we should stand together as americans and fundamentally rejects vince new york city hired eric adams of former cop to be there mayor is that a sign things are shifting in the most liberal parts of this country? >> is a big sign where the sentiment is heading. i don't think a lot of democrats in washington as a recognize this quickly enough. the traditional basis they often thought they could rely on have sent them really clear messages over, over again. i look at eric adams in new york there's a great expression of that part also at minneapolis think a place were defunded the police was a very big it just two years ago but not anymore voters rejecting efforts to replace the police department this last year. then of course deciding to increase the funding for the police in minneapolis in december. i think the populace once a safe and they do not want weakness when it comes to crime too.
