truck drivers? what is their story what is the benefit for them? >> first about women come from all occupations. we've got women come from the nursing field, from service areas women are coming into the industry because they see first about you cannot outsource trucking. we will always have jobs. as you mentioned there is a need for good drivers right now. secondly women make the same amount of men. your pay by the mile, load, our there is no disparity. most women from the industry because they know they're going to make a decent middle income wage. arthel: what is that middle income wager talking about question require attic, what are the requirements, training, apprenticeships? how do they apply? >> i went to cdl school took me three weeks about 180 hours of training. you have to learn personnel the paperwork you have to understand what is required,

how to read logbooks how to do electronic logging and knowing the rules. and secondly learn the skills you learn back in, you learn how to park, how to back a 53-foot trailer. and then you go out on the road. and so i finished my cdl in three weeks. and then once you graduate you go to a carrier they will put you in a finishing kind of school and you will go out with a trainer. but you can start now, wages have been going up easily 50, 35000 even 60000 starting wages. wow. i understand you're trying to get girl scouts on board too, tells about the event for them i believe you held it up all of harvey truck driving academy of the training academy in chicago. >> that was our very first event. we learned of the boy scouts had a patch for supply chain the girls probably didn't. and so we worked with the greater chicago northern indiana regional girl scout

group. we created the curriculum for and we also designed a patch which i think you showed it. >> it looks good. over 1100 girls pre-pandemic have earned their patch and supply chain and learned we have a book that goes with a cold scouting for cookies. it talks about how the grain from the field goes to the bakery in a truck. from the bank bakery to packaging, packaging to warehousing the final mile is the girl scout we want them to look at the trucks on the road and say wow that could be my cookies in their or that could be holding a milk that i'm going to drink with my cookies. you want them to have a personal relationship to the trucks they see on the road. arthel: interesting, interesting or understand this in a federal pilot program but 18 -- 20 -year-olds drive to big rigs across state lines i do and to ask you what you say to critics who point to data that show younger drivers get in more crashes than older ones? also pointing out the dangers of teenagers driving an

80000-pound rig could pose? >> actually, it is kind of a misnomer. in 49 states and the district of columbia 18 -- 20 -year-olds can already drive a tractor trailer. the safety administration regulates interstate commerce. and so right now and he went under the age of 21 is not allowed to haul a load that's going across state lines. but they are already doing it in 49 states. so in wisconsin you can drive for 50 miles from lake superior down to racine as long as you're not crossing that state line a 19-year-old can do it. so at the administration under the new infrastructure bill passed the safe driver apprenticeship program for it will allow those under 21 to cross state lines. but it will be very heavily regulated. they will be expected to drive a truck with automated

transmission, breaking crash mitigation system. they will have to have an experienced driver in the truck with them at all times until they pass a probationary period it will be very well regulated. it is a three-year test program. after three years congress will look at it and say should we be allowing those under 21 to be crossing state lines? or not. but honestly, arthel, we could certainly use more drivers but we need more female drivers. women are safer drivers. the american transportation institute research institute found mail truck tires are 20% more likely to be involved in a crash then female commercial drivers. so we really need to focus on getting more women behind the truck because they have proven to be safer. >> you started women in trucking association 15 years ago. your mission is to encourage the employment of women in the trucking industry.

our testing capacity as they are. we want to make sure we have access to the therapeutics. that is where the federal government needs to step up. survive fox news medical contributor dr. janette nesheiwat joins us now. what can you tell us about this variant? is this heading to midsize and smaller cities next? >> yes, this new variant it's a sub variant of omicron it sort of like a sister variant of omicron. it is not a variant of concern as of right now according to the world health organization. it does have mutations it does not appear that mutations make it more deadly but it might make it more contagious very deutsche for example the united kingdom the level of cases were dropping until the new sub variant emerge there but something we need to continue to monitor and watch. as far as cases here in the united states, there are a lot of decline nursing and that northeastern states new york, new jersey, d.c. we went from over a million

cases a date down to around five -- 600,000 which is still a lot. but in some states receive and increase the number of cases and deaths. that means we need to continue to practice or safety measures entered mitigation measures which of course starts off with making sure that you are vaccinated, where your mask indoors in public crowded areas. get tested and if you're sick stay home. arthel: basically don't let your guard down, now's not the time. how do you think the federal government or the white house can plan ahead? >> that is a great question. i'm a huge proponent of prevention. we can do that with planning and preparation meeting keeping an eye out. having surveillance to see is there a new variant brewing that's emerging? for example this new sub variant of omicron very difficult to pick up at pc are actually of canterbury after a specific genetic sequencing to pick it up that is number one is surveillance. then of course making sure we are prepared with a number of diagnostic tools that we have. and also the therapeutics,

that monoclonal antibiotics that are in such a short supply right now as well as the antiviral pills we know are very effective. so making sure we have enough of all of those the diagnostics tools will help us what we saw this past winter with omicron when we had mile-long lines and people presenting to the er overburdening the hospital. we going to see that again we went to control this virus once and for all. >> seems like your say this diagnostic tools, testings and what have you should be available to the public and that's difficult and not so difficult to get. >> absolutely. and most recently in the past couple of weeks the white house has put out a website you can actually order up to four covid tests and have them delivered to your home, which i think will be helpful especially if you wake up in the morning suddenly have a runny nose or a fever you want to test yourself and not go to work or send your child to school. that will definitely be helpful. we want to get to the point we

can see this virus burn out so that we can manage it and control it as we do influenza. so testing is definitely a huge component but not the only tool that we have in combating this virus. arthel: it or to those testers pretty easy to follow that website instructions were real simple. based on medical forecasting you have been able to review, dr. janette nesheiwat can we expect to have a safe dirt summer and beyond that will winter 2020 to be the first season were covid-19 will be more like the flu and the covid vaccine will be more like an annual flu shot? >> i hope so, arthel part is looking like that right now. i was seeing 80 -- 90 patients a day up until this past week and a half. the number of patients have gone down to 40 or 50. i'm seeing a lot more regular visits, non- covid visits which is a step in the right direction which i am happy about. but remember, this virus is an opportunistic virus.

we can control limit the spread of this virus by our behavior and by what we do. last year we had delta emerge in the middle of the summer. we do not want to see that happen. we can prevent that by making sure you get vaccinated. and getting your booster in taking those preventative measures steps like having good ventilation and again wearing a mask indoors. especially if you do not have natural immunity you are at higher risk of complications from this disease. arthel: finally and quickly, what percentage of our community needs to get vaccinated to give it the blanket coverage and protection you're talking about? >> yes, it's all good 20 -- 25% of americans who are not vaccinated. but the good news is if you take into account those who are vaccinated, those who are boosted, and those that have natural immunity we are moving in the right direction. it is still not enough. we're still not out of the woods, arthel we sell over 2000 deaths a day we still need to stay on top of it, keep doing what we are doing
