something that we are familiar with in new york where six cops have been shot this year already. there has been more cops targeted in this short period of time than any time since 1997. and when you think about what's going on with crime in the 22 major cities in this country, you think about something that will resonate with everyone. and this if you are a politician, and you want to start having your poll goes up, you will show at least you're engaged and on the side of the blue. you have would think. so the president of the united states came here one day after a major funeral that had all of fifth avenue filled with blue. retired and active policemen and women there to salute one of their fallen. and at the same time, the next day here comes the president with a mayor that he -- this mayor, eric adams says he is the president's favorite. where they got together and new york city and they brought his attorney general with him. the question is, is he addressing crime and the fundamental root problem by

addressing guns? >> steve: we predicted exactly what the president would do and he followed our script. it was all about guns. he did at one point say the answer is not to defund the police. that was encouraging. buff he didn't say anything manhattan's woke d.a. alvin bragg didn't talk about the no wail law. raise the age law which we talked about. nothing about the influence of police defunders. you know, it sounded like if he is going to talk about the answer is not to defund the police. he was going to go down that road. but the cover of the "new york post" completely summarizes it. sleepy joe talk about crime but it's all blah blah blah blah blah, ainsley. >> ainsley: in that harl one of the are brooklyn the writer of the article said didn't hear anything from biden that would stem the shootings. typical political mumbo jump bho bow. they talk a good game. guns are already here. we have to keep the people we

arrest with guns in jail. the only hope for innocent victims is to get -- put them behind bars and put them in jail. evidence didn't meet with the families either of the fallen heros that were buried last week and a half. >> steve: opportunity lost. >> ainsley: that's right. he didn't come to the funerals. he didn't shake hands with the cops in front of saint pat's. we don't understand why he is not willing to do that. and support the blue he has said he wants to redirect funding. he said that on the campaign trail. did he say yesterday he is not for defunding. listen to more of what he said. >> first, we want to crack down on the flow of firearms used to commit violence. that includes taking on and shutting down rogue gun dealers. it's about doing background checks as well as outright selling -- making sure that people who are not allowed to have a gun, don't get the gun in the first place. and, again, for any of the --

any of the press -- this doesn't violate anybody's second amendment right. there's no amendment that's absolute. when the amendment was passed, it didn't say anybody could own a gun and any kind of gun and any kind of weapon. you couldn't buy a cannon when this -- this amendment was passed, so no reach why you should be able to buy certain assault weapon. but that's another issue. >> brian: he, of course, attacked the second amendment and that's kind of interesting he sees so much flexibility there. as the "new york post" points out, he could have called that the extremism in his own party. the cory bushy, mayor garcetti, mayor de blasio. alvin bragg. every member of the squad ayanna pressley called dismantle, defund, reimagining the police and you don't think that plays a role? even for the self-interest of the president and his party you would think that he would, yeah, name guns as the problem. ghost guns major issue.

let's be honest, the d.a. has overcorrected the criminal justice reform. segue and blame donald trump for it he loves doing that. tucker carlson weighed in last night. we just are not addressing the problem which means nothing is going to get solved. >> keep in mind in new york city biden endorsed politicians have stopped enforcing a lot of the gun law. stop and frisk. remember that? that was against the equity agenda. can't have that people with illegal guns are getting away. by the way, joe biden's own son veigeled federal firearm laws. a felony, not prosecuted. but you can't have a gun in your home because no amendment is absolute. bottom line is the laws aren't being enforced and that's quite the problem. >> ainsley: our new d.a. will not even put you behind bars if you walk in and rob a store with a gun. you will only get in trouble, you only go behind bars if you fire that weapon. that is ridiculous.

it's crazy, and these cops are saying all of these people who are firing the guns, these criminals that have these illegal guns in their house don't go off on their own. someone is actually pulling the trigger. if you let them stay out on the streets and walk around with these guns, as long as they are not firing them and put them behind bars, we are going to continuously have these problems. >> steve: sure. it's interesting. one biden administration official spoke to somebody over at channel 4 just across the street. and they said the reason there is such a crime spike -- the crime spike is through the roof, they said it's the pandemic. think about it we are now two years into the pandemic. crime in new york city is up about 40% overover year. so, you can't blame the pandemic. i know that in the beginning, this administration would blame either donald trump or the pandemic for everything. you cannot blame donald trump for the climb new york city. but you can blame the pandemic. and so that is what they are doing even though that stretches

logic. >> brian: i would think that mark penn, a democratic strategist, who looks at his numbers, a guy like james carville would look at president biden and just say hey, to solve, this you can't just mention guns. if you actually want to get some votes, you want to reverse the momentum that's going against their party, you should look at the stats, robbery up 33%. rape up 27%. felony assault 12%. grand larceny up 58% in january. you can't just blame the gun. >> ainsley: remember we did the story of the mom, she was in the car with her child. her husband went in the grocery store. she was interviewed about this. she said i don't care if you fill up rikers island, isn't that what a jail is for? isn't that what a prison is for? fill it up with the criminals. >> steve: the problem is people in new york city and not across the country do not feel safe. that is a terrible to be in a country where you don't feel safe to walk out the door there was one moment when the president talked about guns and people, it was an absolutely cringe worthy moment. at one point he was hugging a

community leader and he said this guy has got some guns. talking about his arms. >> ainsley: squeezing his arms. >> steve: somebody else said mr. president no, more guns. >> i mean these guns. poor choice of words. poor choice of words. poor message. the message should be i'm joe biden, we have come to work new york to make things safe and we are going to throw the book at people who break the law. he didn't say that yesterday. >> ainsley: 6:10 on the east coast. vice president kamala harris is playing the blame game once again. listen. >> the problem is congress is not acting. we must create a pathway to citizenship. this should not be partisan. >> ainsley: if it's not pandemic it is congress she is blaming. harris tasked with addressing the border now putting the blame on congress. >> brian: always interesting to hear her soundbites. where is the beef you? heard about meatless monday find out what big city is forcing

>> the first piece of legislation sent to congress was immigration reform. literally, it was our first initiative to say we must have a path for citizenship. the problem is congress is not acting. we must create a pathway to citizenship. this should not be partisan. we should not allow republicans or democrats, if they do stand in the way of it, to get away with this as a partisan issue. >> steve: so blame congress. >> ainsley: should have said we do help the latinos, we have an open border. come on in. it doesn't matter if you are a citizen anymore. it doesn't matter if you are here illegally. we are going to let you stay and maybe give you free healthcare in college and might get free college. >> brian: private jet to west chester airport and nice bag from catholic charities along with some spending money. she said and goes on to say that money would really choose to

europe although she eventually did go. in the last two segments we have seen a preview the run up of the midterm elections. democrats are going to be called on the carpeted owho didn't get any of this stuff done. keep in mind when she said on day one we sent it to congress. they sent a bunch of stuff. they sent a list to congress. hey, do something about the border. do something about the environment. do something about all the things that they wanted to make sure that their base was excited about. buff they could not deliver on. if why is that? isn't it curious? first day of their administration, it was a -- their own party had control of both houses of congress. the house and the senate. and they did not pass anything. the last time anything even got close to going through congress was in 2007. if this was truly a priority, the biden administration would have come up with suggestions that both sides of the aisle could have gotten together with. but they chose not to. why would that be?

could it be that they simply thought they couldn't get republican support? or did they want to use it as an issue going forward. we would have done more on the border but those darn republicans wouldn't let us. >> brian: but here's the problem. they feel as though it's the hispanic vote by being permissible at the border with the hispanic vote. that is an old school line of thought. if you see what's over joe biden's shoulder in the white house, it's caesar chavez. he is maybe the ultimate hero of the hispanic community in california because what he did for migrant farmers. he is losing the hispanic vote. and he's losing it in the border areas. because the hispanic penal came here legally. and they don't enjoy the illegal way in which people are doing what they worked so hard to do pay the money, take the test. go through the immigration process. play the perfect game. make sure you don't have any transgressions and then become citizens. he actually is insulting them by say going i leave that southern

border open, the hispanic community will like me. they don't. and, number two, i think it's so important, everybody knows you get nowhere with immigration reform without border security. he hasn't even tried to do it. steve, what you are referring to in 2007, george bush got house and senate to pass separate immigration bills. they couldn't get them to conference. they actually passed it. we couldn't get them to conference. >> steve: got stuck in the senate. they both had separate deals. they needed to work it out. and they both said it's too risky for both parties to do it because they seem to both want the issue. >> ainsley: his immigration reform would allow 11 million undocumented migrants that are here in the united states to have citizenship. >> steve: probably more than that. avians ains that's what i was going to say. clarifies said if we we needed to get something passed. some of these bills you need 60 votes. i'm sorry you need fifth. they don't have that they haven't even pushed it through. you are right. probably not a priority. to your point, talk to any of your friends be that are here

that went through the process legally. they are furious about it. they spent the money and they are proud to go through the process. >> brian: do you know the questions you have if you get married to an immigrant and the questions they have and the separate you and ask you questions to see if the relationship is real or not? at the same time all these people do show up and get nike, a sweat suit, a clear bag of toiletries and spending money. are you kidding me? >> steve: don't blame congress. blame your own party, kamala harris. meanwhile, somebody else in that party is nancy pelosi. and, you know, the olympics you are going to see the opening ceremonies tonight if you watch -- i mean, i don't know anybody that sex sighted about this year's olympics. here's the thing. they are being held in beijing, china. china is a very famous human rights violator for a variety of reasons. so, the speaker of the house had a message to these athletes who, after they compete, there is a press conference.

the filibuster in the senate. they attempted three times this year to change our election laws. this is what they are doing. i do believe that there is a good legal here because it violates the state constitution. also we believe the voting rights act. it's up to the constituents who are filing this lawsuit to take this fight to court. >> absolutely i know in long island they are trying to get rid of republican seats. i think one thing that might republicans and democrats to do to go into each other's district and sell. rather than maximize people who like them. sell them on your policies that will make the country come together, i think, to a large degree. meanwhile, there is something else starting that nobody wants. where's the beef is starting today. new york city schools for the few that go to school, will serve vegan only meals on friday as part of the mayor's fitness initiative. i didn't know vegan and fitness go hand in hand. isn't that a choice? >> it should absolutely be a choice. i understand that the mayor is a

it's so many issues going on right now. and, you know, it's just -- it's not just about guns, but we need officers out here like, you know, i don't believe in defunding the police. i think that they should be out here supporting us. we need it. we need them to engage with the community. we need a lot of support right now. >> steve: right. >> i didn't hear none of that. >> steve: lee, we have just heard from law enforcement. we have heard from a victim's family. i got a feeling that the great crime re-set did not happen yesterday. when it documents a messaging point of view for the president. >> yeah, there is no question about it. and in five in six americans feel worse off right now. only have a 24% approval rating when it comes to people's opinion on crime. he has got a 69% disapproval rate when it comes to gun violence. nothing that he said yesterday was new. there's nothing that he told us about guns, about the way he is
