white house was ignoring parents, business owners with its go to tool, the mandate on everything. and apparently president biden is willing to ignore even his own political party as democrats swing into full panic mode as public backlash around the mask mandates hits a breaking point. yesterday we were telling you about new jersey, connecticut, delaware, oregon. all lifting their school mask mandates suddenly. lots of political fingers pointing as to why the dems would do that. now illinois is hinting at a decision to ease statewide mask requirements. president biden is not budging on federal mandates, though. and now a top house democrat sean patrick maloney with a warning. erasing mask mandates in blue states is what we need desperately to win in november. >> it's the death of this pandemic and because of the president's leadership and the democratic plan to beat the virus that we'll be in a

position to communicate a clear off ramp and to make sure people understand they will be in a position to care for themselves, for their families, that we trust parents to know best for their children and schools. >> harris: wow, like they are speaking somebody else's language. just today congressman maloney tweeted it is time to give people their lives back. republicans say this is pure politics. >> if we know anything about the left it's about dependency and control and they will do anything they can to follow the polling numbers. they see it as an issue where voters are starting to hate this policy. we better change course. we know it was never about the science. never about keeping people or our kids safe and that's why they are changing because they know now that they are going to lose on this issue. so again it is an hypocrisy of the left and up here in washington, d.c. we're seeing where they don't follow their own guidance. >> harris: any indication, jackie, that the white house
8:03 am
will back democrats now lifting pandemic mandates out of panic politically? >> i tell you the white house would probably prefer not to answer that question. jen psaki danced all the way around it yesterday and they are trying hard not to wade into that conversation where they would have to come out one way or the other against these democrat states that have now bukd the cdc. you have seen this past week blue state mandates falling like dominoes with some of the states who previously imposed the harshest, strikeest restrictions rolling them back and it has created a patchwork of protocols across the u.s. that prompted a plea from the country's largest teachers union for the cdc to weigh in and give guidance whether this is in fact the right thing to do. the white house is saying don't expect those answers any time soon. >> you will have to ask the cdc. they move at the pace of data and science. >> do you believe then that the

democratic led states who are breaking with the cdc on this guidance that they are not -- that they are throwing science away and the cdc has -- >> we don't look at it through that prism. these states i think it's important to note they still allow for decisions to be made by local school districts. >> the white house is trying to avoid criticizing members of their own party. the cdc says the data doesn't support relaxing restrictions at this time. but that's not what medical experts are saying on cnn. >> we still have about 290,000 cases a day and hospitalizations that are higher than they ever were in the delta peak even. so right now i don't think is the moment to start relaxing those restrictions. >> case counts are declining and science has changed. >> what is behind the need for masks? it appears to depend on the politics of who you are talking to when it comes to masks for

crime, border and so on and everything that's going against the democrats at this point. i'm old enough to remember jen psaki a couple of weeks ago sending out a tweet directed at glenn youngkin, the republican governor, saying -- actually applauding school boards in virginia for defying the governor's mandate saying that you can lift the vaccine -- the mask mandates as far as children if their parents want to mask their kids they can. if they don't want to, that's fine, too. so when will ms. psaki send out a tweet to our governor of jj. i don't see that tweet coming. >> harris: he was hearing from parents. that governor's race got tight. not as tight as virginia but the republican was coming on. what happened to phil murphy? no doubt he was hearing from parents. you mentioned virginia governor glenn youngkin. i want to put this up.
8:07 am
he claims vindication as more states have lifted their mandates. here is what he tweeted. in the last week we have seen democrat-led states like oregon, connecticut, new jersey, delaware move away from universal mask mandates in schools. i'm pleased there is bipartisan support for doing the same in virginia. >> well played. glenn youngkin can read polls, too. monmouth university poll out. 70% of americans agree that it's time we accept covid is here to stay and we just need to get on with our lives. the only reason why that 70% number isn't higher, the only ideological group that doesn't agree with that are democrats. 47% say we should move on. we had a roadmap and we had that roadmap from 1918. the u.s. military did a great study. all right. of 120 training camps that experienced outbreaks, 99 imposed on-base quar an teens.

school without a mask, because she can't. she is in second grade. kindergarten, first grade, second grade. my 6:00-year-old has never been in any sort of school environment without a mask. we see what has happened with children in terms of their mental health as far as wearing masks and not being able to express themselves and not knowing what their teachers look like half the time when their masks are off. from an educational perspective and it's unacceptable because of the lock downs. the modern example, johns hopkins and that particular study showed that it didn't make a difference here either. >> harris: you have made the compelling argument that no doubt democratic strategists are telling their clients who want to run and win seats 272 days from now. we're counting. so that's some of what they are hearing. the white house is hearing this, too. but they stand pat. we'll see if anything changes

it sounds pandering and become more so obvious the divide between the common man and elite. in canada you see the rising of the blue collar worker the common man. these people are not anti-vax or not necessarily republicans. not necessarily conservative. these are people that individuals should retain the right of choice and they are resisting a top-down approach to their life fro the elites who tell them what they should think and hear and what they should submit to in terms of mandates. that's not limited to canada, harris. that could easily come right here to the united states and take place in the u.k. we see it on the streets across europe. here is the thing, harris, ask yourself this. how does it end? we can discuss where does it go? how does it end? what happens? >> harris: look to canada for soeft answer.

they're winning. when i read the headlines the last couple of days the truckers are winning their argument. this idea you describe yes, it is spreading around the world but i see america as some of the originators of that kind of freedom. it is inherent in who we are having not always had it. one of the organizers of the freedom convoy told fox news digital she is down right disgusted by the liberal media's coverage of the protest. we showed you the clip from cnn say the white house better stop ignoring the truckers. another trucker says it seems like everything is a cult or an insurrection or assault on democracy these days. i don't understand how people fighting for their freedom can be an assault on democracy. your reaction. >> nor do i. these truckers have been called every insult under the sun from fringe to far right to hateful to a cult. and harris, i think you are right that the united states is
