more urgent in the last 48 hours. we have the call between the two presidents, president biden and zelnesky, officials say it lasted just under an hour and reaffirmed commitment to terribletorial integrity and there would be a response from the u.s., severe and swift if russia invades ukraine. publicly share intelligence that officials shows russia preparing for an invasion and one that could come in the next few days. >> i think a mosiac of the intelligence that we are seeing, not specifics to it specifically but we have good sources of intelligence and they are telling us that, you know, things are sort of building now to some sort of opportunity more mr. putin. >> secretary antony blinken just returned to washington after several days in australia and the pacific region. he says the u.s. is drawing down embassy staff in ukraine to only essential levels.

administration officials say it is past time for americans to get out of the country. the white house says president biden spoke for about an hour yesterday with russian president vladimir putin and that he warned the response from the u.s. will be swift and severe if russia does attack. senior defensive officials say the u.s. sending 3,000 additional soldiers to poland joining 1700 dispatched there. the goal to reassure nato allies and deter any potential aggression against nato's eastern flight. the white house has stressed that no american troops will fight in ukraine. now russia is demanding security con decisions even though it's now essentially surrounded ukraine here. it invaded ukraine in 2014 and assumed control of crimea and invaded georgia in 2008. mike. mike: with things building, any sense that we will hear from president biden any time soon with the situation between russia and ukraine? >> it's unclear at this point, mike. the president is in camp david

tomorrow as insurance agencies will stop covering planes that fly here. big question is what comes next, nobody knows. the city is oddly quiet. people at restaurants and shops continuing their daily lives with russian tanks just a few hundred miles away. mike. mike: trey, why is vladimir putin doing this? what does he want? trey: president putin is looking for nato security guaranties. he doesn't want expansion further east and doesn't want ukraine to become a member. remember, president putin has in the past called the collapse of the soviet union the greatest geopolitical catastrophe of the 20th century. this is a man who sees the ukrainians and the russians as one people, so you can get a little bit into his mind to understand why he might want to invade and take over ukraine and as we saw in 2014 he's capable of doing so. mike. mike: very worried about nato expansion. trey yingst live in kyiv, thank you so much. mike: canadian police arresting the trucker pro testers still

remaining at the keyboarder bridge connecting detroit to wind or, ontario. windsor police released they will charged mischief. fox team coverage, garrett tenney in detroit next to the bridge. first to alexis mcadams in ottawa where police are stepping their response to end the thousand strong protests over vaccine mandates as the demonstrations enter its third weekend. alexis. reporter: mike, good afternoon, well, that's what we keep hearing from the prime minister justin trudeau, right, we keep talking and hearing from him, he's going meeting after meeting to try to move the convoy out and talking about increasing federal resources. ottawa is under state of emergency. as you can tell behind me, sure doesn't look like it. i have not seen increase police presence. that begs the question of when are the truckers going to move if no one is asking them to. talking to truckers behind me a few minutes ago, nobody came up

in the past several days and tried to give them a ticket or tried to negotiate with them on the ground so they are not planning on going anywhere and more protestors right now than police officers. take a look at the video. this is what we have seen throughout the weekend. the weekends do pick up out here with quite big crowds. 4,000 demonstrators strong lining the streets of ottawa. now a third straight weekend of protests and pretty much parties against covid restrictions continuing here. now ottawa police have established a joint command center bringing in help from other agencies. the freedom convoy is what they call it they have at least 400semis parked in front of parliament and people who are in those trucks tell me they have no plans to leave. they drove in for several hours just to get here and they are not going to head home. the group has been threatened with types up to 100,000 canadian dollars and even jail time. listen to what they have to say. >> well, i got here and i had no idea what was going to happen, if the world was going oh jump on board. i knew that i had something to do and i had a duty to be here

to send that message to go back and get freedoms for my fellow canadians. reporter: on saturday counter-protestors walking the streets of ottawa hoping that convoy moves out so businesses can reopen. back out here live in ottawa once again you can see the scene behind me. not much has changed. some people have moved out but that's not because police told them to, it's because they went home and they are really here just for the weekend, so far ottawa police tell us they have made 26 arrests and issued more than 2600 tickets. we will keep eyes on the ground here to let you know if and when they move out. mike. mike: well, the sun is out, try to make the best of it, alexis mcadams doing great job in ottawa. alexis, thank you very much. fox news live in detroit on the u.s. side of the bridge you several truckers were arrested this morning. garrett tenney is tracking all of the developments on the ground. hello, garrett.

garrett: at least for now the blockade. police have retain control of the streets leading up to the bridge which handles around a quarter of all trade between the u.s. and canada. this morning a heavy police presence moved in on the handful of protestors that stayed overnight arresting a few folks who refused to leave on their own and towing considers and trucks left behind blocking the roadways. there were a couple of protestors who moved onto sidewalks and if yesterday is any indication, there could be a whole lot more folks coming into the show. their support for the demonstrations as the day goes on and that is why police are keeping the heavy presence there to try to make sure they don't lose control of the roads that now clear for the first time in 6 days. even though the roads are cleared, they are not open to the public and the ambassador bridge which as we have been reporting is the crucial crossing point between u.s. and canada is still shut down. officials on both sides of the

river are hoping they'll be able to reopen the bridge later today, but the mayor of windsor says he will leave it up to the police to decide when it is safe to do that. mike. mike: garrett tenney live in new york, thank you so much. tony katz radio show and brad, gentlemen, welcome. >> always. mike: brad, ongoing protest in canada and should the prime minister change course to end it? >> well, look, i will say this. we have enough problems here. i just hope they keep those protests on -- on the other side -- on the other side of the border. i mean, look, i think that, you know, the key here is that people should be able to protest peacefully but shutting down trade between canada and the u.s., shutting down auto manufacturing plants in the united states preventing the free flow of commerce is not a peaceful protest.

i do hope this bridge remain open. i hope the protest will stay on the canadian side of the border. i think it's unfortunate what they are protesting, vaccines work, vaccines requirements work, we are not going to get out of this pandemic if people don't follow the science and the content of the protest is unfortunate. mike: tony, what's your take on the are test right now? >> always good to hear a democrat believe that some things should be kept on the other side of the border. if you would go to the southern border we would be better off. secondly good to hear democrats worry about trade and worried about business growth. they weren't worried about the businesses in minneapolis or in seattle or in portland, the places where -- it's nice to hear them finally talking about want to go be probusiness and want to go support small business. there's nothing wrong with protests. i oppose blocking the bridge. i always oppose blocking traffic. it's nice that democrats oppose blocking traffic as well. the protests are fine.

they don't want to be mandated by their government. it's a very rational position. the vaccine does, indeed, work. i think the data shows that. some people don't want it and it's up to them but let's -- let's be clear, what we are seeing in the response from justin trudeau and the canadian government is cruel. you can be the bring people gasoline, ugly stuff from the so-called nice canadian. >> tony got a couple of laughs from brad, that's a good sign. switching gears a little bit, gentlemen, brad, are blue states dropping mask mandates because polling suggests the constituents have absolutely had it? >> well, look, i think everyone has absolutely had it. you don't need to be in a blue state or red state. i think people have absolutely had it. look, i think you all know the dcd guidance, they think this is a little -- a little too soon, cold weather is still persisting, people are inside. the fact that governors in

states red and blue feel like that they can begin to end the mandates is a testament to what the biden administration has done to give them the tools to get beyond the pandemic. vaccines, tests and masks, free masks, free tests and free vaccines and i think that that is what is going to get us past this pandemic. if more people would take them up, we need the unvaccinated to get vaccinated. mike: tony, is it about the science or fear their constituents may throw them out of office? >> it's all about fear. none of it is about science. the idea of keeping kids in math is never about science. >> you just said vaccines work. >> are not about science. no, no, this is a conversation about masks. i brought masks, you want to bring up vaccines. i do believe the vaccine works. i'm talking about vaccines in adults. i think it's very rational for people to say i'm not vaccinating my kid because i want to see some results and to have the administration or others call them bad people is, of course, wrong and it's ugly

as sin. what's most important here when you see the governors in the democratic statesman offer about getting rid of mask mandates it proves that ron desantis was right. somehow the governor of connecticut is just a good decent guy doing what's best, it's hilarious. >> i can't believe you bring up ron desantis. what's that? mike: i was going to switch gears to inflation. inflation spike into 40-year hike last year. 7.5%. what do president biden and his team need to do about it, brad? >> well, look, the whole world needs to confront this. this is a worldwide phenomena, this supply chain, the problems with the supply chain. is not unique to the united states and we are seeing a couple of causes for it. the supply chain is part of it and from these earnings call that is we have been hear pgr the first quarter of this year, there's also good-old fashion corporate greed. corporations are raising prices more than the rate of inflation,

more dollar for dollar for their increase cost, so we need to call them out. if you want to address cost in this country, we need to pass president biden's policies to lower prescription costs, lower healthcare costs. the president and the democrats have policies to address cost. republicans have not proposed a single policy to address inflation or cost like health care. mike: tony, your thoughts on inflation hitting every american on the wallet? >> putting $2 trillion into the economy does not reduce inflation. inflation is when you have too much cash and not enough stuff. what you hear brad is more spending. that's absolutely the opposite of the government. more government policies is absolutely the opposite of the answer. encourage people to go back to work and ensure you are taking any disincentive of getting back to work. talk to people on main street. they cannot find anybody. restaurants and others that are closing up because they cannot find the people. yes, covid does create supply chain issues, but it's not the

john, welcome. john: thanks for having me this morning. mike: how significant is this filing from special council john durham that lawyers from the clinton campaign paid a technology company to infiltrate servers belonging to trump towers and later the white house in order to establish an inference and narrative to to government agencies linking former president trump to russia. >> the reality is criminals lie but computer records don't lie. the durham investigation can show definitively that efforts were made to make it appear as if communications were taking place with russia on russian phones, from the trump campaign from the white house and other locations that were connected to donald trump. there's going to be criminal prosecution as a result. >> that was my next question, where does this go from here, what criminals charges are ahead? >> at the very least we are going to have lying to the fbi

which is an an offense in and of itself. there are national security issues that people try to take the efforts to implicate the white house communications to be able to show that these alleged conversations were taking place. if i have any concern at all, there are statute of limitation concerns, but i'm sure mr. durham is aware of that and they are proceeding accordingly. mike: all right, key house republican today talk about congressional oversight of this issue. let's play it. >> will you, if you become chairman of the house intelligence committee, if the gop takes the majority in november, will you hold hearings to finally reveal the truth? what will you do? >> absolutely. we have to get to the truth. i mean, this is a threat to our democracy itself. it doesn't matter really which political campaign this is or which political party this is, this is so wrong. mike: is he right, john, should there be hearings? >> there absolutely should be hearings regardless of the

prosecution which should occur. the public needs to know what's taken place. politics need to get back to being fair to one another which is something it has become so partisan we have not seen. if we want to have fair, fair elections or represent people in our country, we need to know there's an even playing field and people are giving misinformation to the american public and more importantly claiming that we are having involvement with foreign countries at the expense of the american people. the public needs to know. mike: why should folks at home care about this report? why does it matter? >> it matters because if one side can do it, anybody can do it. you need to know that you're getting the right information when you go to the polls and vote, more importantly we want the best candidates out there. persons who even thought about going into politics look at what the other side can do and may be

discouraged. if we want the best people representing our country, we need to make sure that people with bad intents are not hurting our country. mike: does congress need to pass a new law to make sure something like this doesn't happen again, john? >> there's plenty of laws already on the book. what congress needs to do is step up and call this out. that's why hearings are so important. i encourage everything that mr. durham is doing as well to try to bring those responsible to justice. they've made a mockery of the system. they've infected the fbi and certain areas, all of that needs to be addressed. mike: john former fbi special agent, thank you so much for your time and your service to the country. >> thank you, mike. mike: canadian police making arrests near a keyboarder crossing from canada united states, more of ongoing trucker protest there after the basic. ♪ ♪

mike: president biden spoke to zelensky what is a sense of what the two likely discussed? >> i think the two presidents are discussing the threat that russians have built around ukraine which includes 130,000 troops and the president has also used the call affirm support for ukraine. mike: you did not only serve as top diplomat to ukraine but you were recently there. what was the purpose of your recent visit? >> it was organized by the atlantic council and the purpose of the trip was both to get a sense of what was going on in ukraine but also to reiterate from a group of retired diplomats and generals american support for ukraine. i came away with the impression that the ukrainians are very determined. if the russian military goes into ukraine, they will be met with a very hot reception. mike: fascinating. national security adviser jake sullivan made this prediction

today. >> it would then be followed by an onslaught of a ground force moving across the ukrainian frontier. mike: if you were the u.s. ambassador to ukraine right now, what would be your top priorities? >> one would be maintaining channels of communication with the ukrainian government and facilitating even today american flights arriving, providing more weapons and defensive equipment for the ukrainians to better enable them to defend themselves and then third doing what you can to assist americans to get out of ukraine given the potential, if not the possibility of a russian assault. mike: you aren't in the pressure cooker as the senior administration official or diplomat in the hot zone. from the outside, is there something the biden administration should have done sooner like sending defensive weapons to ukraine? >> you know, if you'd asked me that question maybe 5 or 6 weeks ago i might have had a different

answer. but what you have seen over the last month and a half is, in fact, the administration which originally said that if russia invades one of the penalties will be an increased flow of american weapons to ukraine. they're not waiting for that invasion. that's been happening. you have flights arriving almost every day now with american weapons. so i think the united states has been doing a lot in the last 4 to 5 weeks to help the ukrainians better prepare to defend themselves should the russians attack. mike: is it possible vladimir putin won't invade and will merely try to decapitate the ukrainian government with pressure from the threat of possible invasion and the impact that's having on the ukrainian economy? >> well, i think certainly that's the dream scenario for the kremlin which just the threat of military force might cause kyiv to collapse. we saw no sign of that. i think the ukrainians are actually more determined to resist and i fear that mr. putin

may be making a miscalculation. i'm not sure he understands just how dead-set the feeling is in ukraine against a russian attack. you know, bear in mind, mr. putin's concern is that ukraine is moving away from russia, but the thing that's done that, i mean, nothing has been more of a factor in pushing ukraine away from russia and towards the west than russian policy in the last 8 years, to thisis as a result of russian policy. mike: we are nearly out of time but sounds like you think if there is an invasion it could be bloody. >> i think it's going to be a tragedy for ukrainians but it would be a tragedy for many russian families who are not going to see their sons or their brothers or their husbands coming home. ukrainians will fight. they will make it hard even though they are probably

outmassed by the russian military and that's why one of the reasons mr. putin when he looks at that he understands the cost and in the end he decides not to invade but to pursue some form of diplomacy. mike: ambassador steven pifer, thank you so much for your time, it's great to have your analysis. >> thank you. >> now to the trucker protest in canada as the demonstrations against vaccine mandates in canada's capital city continue for the third weekend in a row and police are making arrests to a clear border crossing, joining me now to discuss the executive vice president of the owner-operator independent driver's association lou pew, welcome. >> hey, thanks for having me. mike: how do you assess the point being made by the truckers across the border in canada? >> well, you know, our association, we have asked the biden administration and the prime minister both to drop the mandate for truckers. we are not against vaccines, we just feel that it's sort of a

pro choice, it's your body, so it should be your choice. truckers have been operating back and forth across this border since covid began. there's never been an issue until the 15th of january when canada did theirs and then january 22nd, the united states added their mandate for crossing the border. it seems kind of arbitrary now there's never been a problem, truckers are not super spreaders. there's no data showing that, the men and women behind the wheel have been delivering everything they needed, the goods, the shots, the masks, the hand sanitizer, all of the items since day one, getting them out there to the first responders and there's never been a problem and, you neglect, they were national heros a year ago and now we don't want to let them go across the border unless they have a shot. now, as far as the protests themselves, you know, we can't

be blocking roads, you can't be blocking the bridges unfortunately that's turning the public against them and we don't want to see that but we do believe that people have a right to peacefully protest and they should and i think this is more -- truckers have not been listened to by the government and especially our government in the last 40 years. it just seems like over and over truckers get their short shaft and, you know, they never pass meaningful regulations or anything like that. and i think this is probably the straw the broke the camel's back. it's an old saying, you can't kick a dog for so long until he bites you and, you know, we couldn't even get parking for truckers. most people don't real there's a crisis out here for truckers in parking, there's a pay problem. we continue to hear there's driver shortage issue with, you know, with the supply chain, there's no driver shortage, there's plenty of truckers. there's a pay shortage, there's

overregulation, there's, you know, parking shortage. mike: okay. let me ask you a question. >> yes, sir. mike: your organization has asked prime minister trudeau and president biden that professional truckers be exempted from the cross-border vaccination requirements. any response so far? >> we've had some meetings. we've had good meetings with people in congress. we had some high-ranking meetings with dot and smcsa in the united states and we had meetings with members of parliament and we've simply told them, you want to make this go away, drop the mandate just like we said in our letter. mike: some have hopefully wondered if a similar protest could be coming here to washington. let's play the clip from congressman lance good. >> absolutely welcome a similar pronouncement of protests in our nation's capital by truckers and anyone who wants their freedoms back. people are fed up with the

overbearing, overburdening regulations that are not based in science. mike: lou, could this potentially spread to america's nation's capital? >> anything is possible. again, we have been having meetings with high-ranking dot officials. i think on the american side they are looking for something to do so it doesn't happen. again, it's pretty simple, do away with the mandates is what we've told them, start listening to stuff that help truckers instead of hurt truckers and overregulate truckers. if it does happen, i caution when we see these things that gain national attention, these kinds of things unfortunately people who like to create chaos and problems get involved sometimes that have nothing to do with the organization -- what is trying to happen or go on, so that's one thing i caution against and worry about, but, you know, if they want to peacefully protest that's their right to do it. we need follow through, people need to follow through, the government needs to follow through with some of the promises they've made. but like i said, it's pretty

we got here shortly after sunrise and border agents were tracking down runners in the run, they were using cbp tale continue tore do so and see from above in the dense shrub where they are trying to hide. single adults whether men or women, they are trying to evade and get further in the country and the agents have to track them down and then there's the other side of the coin which are the family units. if we can pull up the video from last night, same spot in la joya, we see this frequently out here. dozens of family groups will show themselves and give themselves up. typically there's going to be a lot of pregnant women, family bringing their young children with them and under biden administration's policies most of them will not be title 42 and a lot will be released in the country pending court dates and agents saving families. if we can pull up photo from del rio sector the chief posted this photo saying agents had to save a haitian family from drowning.
