i'm going to be a little contrary and to you three ladies who have already gone for one moment on this particular part of his speech. harris, i saw your show earlier and we sell the whole clip. i saw jimmy phelan and her response. i think he stuck the landing on the jokes more than i ever heard him. emily played some of his greatest hits. lying dogface pony soldier is only rivaled by cord pop. that's were dealing with here. you have to realize that he cleared the bar. probably a friendly crowd. he got a lot of laughs. to your point i will say yes, he had a history of vilifying the american people. we do not need him -- to harass as analysis, we do not need him. no one needs him to be strong with republicans. this is when you need to be strong on the political stage. i want to hear him sing vladimir putin will be scared when i am president. vladimir putin will not be like this when i'm in charge.

>> emily: welcome back. new york city mayor eric adams is accused of playing the race card after he seemed to blame white reporters and editors for negative press coverage over his fight on bail reform. mayor adam spoke with state leaders on monday about removing the cash bail system as the city faces a crime surge. he called the talks constructive. some news outlets reported he was unsuccessful which angered him. watch. >> i am a black man that's the mayor. my story has been interpreted by people that do not look like me. we have to be honest about that. how many blacks are on editorial boards? how many blacks have determined how the stores are being written? in my role as mayor it has has

been interpreted due to the prism of your realities and not mine. you are not writing stories from those who are dealing with high crime. diversify your newsroom so i can look out and see people that look like me. >> emily: and then he said discomfort is gross. it's discomfort being stabbed 40 times in your own bathtub by a violent offender? >> kayleigh: raise a great point. it is a tragedy what happened to that young woman. she was apparently screaming call 911 and her neighbors heard. the police could not get in the door at first because i guess it was locked. they tried to use a sledgehammer to get in. they guy had been arrested a half-dozen times going back to 2015 including for salt. i'm sorry mayor adams and d.a. brad. he told us that he apologize that the public was confused by

his messaging. no, you do not have a medications problem. you do not have a media problem. violent crime has gone up 46% to date through february 14th. fixed streets and then maybe we'll get some positive coverage. speech and the mayor said you are not writing for those who are dealing with high crime, but that's exactly who we are writing and reporting for when we say their names and we report these horrifying statists throughout the country. >> shannon: it's a valid point for conversation but having more diverse people working in newsrooms and reporting on things as long as it is not being used as a cudgel saying you cannot criticize me. that's a different situation altogether. when i write about this, it made me think about the memo tht went up during the 2020 election to all of us were covering and awaiting then candidate joe biden's selection of vice presidential candidate. we believed it was going to be a

woman, probably a woman of color. within days, it turned out it was, harris. this memo we got, i kept it because it's from a number of women's groups that said be careful how you talk about women and women of color and what pictures you use and how you talk about their likability or tone. at the very end of this very lengthy letter to the media, it said it we are watching you. the implication was if you criticize or talk about somebody in a certain way, we are going to know it because you are racist and sexist. we need to break down the barrier and say we have to report the facts as they are. if that means criticism, it does not matter where you were on the political spectrum are what your background or characteristic chart. that is fair game. >> emily: and the coverage of mayor adams has been quite positive. the coverage of the existing policies here in the city of d.a. brad's and policies that he tried to implement and the situation and term of crime statistics. that has been scathing, but it has been positive about mayor adams. with the case of christina lee,

fort campbell, it specifically said that mayor adams said that we are going to find a break down in the system. it seems like a very heightened reaction to something that i'm not quite sure is being played out in the media. >> will: it only goes to highlight the entitlement. a couple quick points. i think we have this fascinating -- politicians have always felt entitled to a certain type of coverage from the media, but they've never been more open about their disappointment. whether or not that it's biden saying we need more crackdown on misinformation or adams calls here. i have never seen the type of open entitlement. to your point, emily, the stories that are being told. the victims of no cash bail and the victims of these crimes are overwhelmingly black and brown. the victims look like eric adams. catch up eric. it seems to be the primary priority of newsrooms to diversify. even more so the quality of the coverage. every media organizations

priority as catch up. you do not get to escape criticism and claim racism. that knife has been struck again so soon so many times that it has no ability to cut anymore. it is a dulled knife because of overuse like this from eric adams. >> harris: some of his biggest critics are in the primary against him in new york. andrew yang is diverse. i don't know what he is talking about. the reason he got hired has to do with a completely different other color. blue. he was a 22 year veteran of the nypd who said he could do with climate differently and more effectively. he has not been an office that long and maybe we will see him do something different. to blame the media. how black do you have to be? do not make me pull out the receipts of how many times i personally have reached out to this mayor. my show was the first place he ever landed on this network. later in episodes of "outnumbered" over time, that was a last time we saw them on the network. then he was running for mayor and he wanted something different. i get it.

i'm still a reporter and i'm still a journalist. i am still waiting, as well. it is not about what we look like. for the mayor to say that is really shortsighted because the ink is also one color. when they print those newspapers, they don't care about the color of your skin. but they care about is have you brought on the crime statistics that kayleigh has talked about? i'm asking on behalf of all of those who might be offended by what you've said because even when i show up, no matter what you think may come out of my mouth, i'm still reporter whether you can see the color of my skin or not. it's offensive but you know what it is mostly? it's cowardly. that's not what you expect from a 22 year veteran of the nypd. how disappointing. how cowardly of him not to take questions. i'm going to stave off access from the press. maybe because that from president biden when he was here for the first of 2 funerals. you heard the mayor speak beautifully at jason rivera's funeral in the eulogy.

>> harris: the family of the woman that alec baldwin fatally shot on the movie set of "rust" is now suing the actor and some of the movie's production staff her tragic death. attorneys for the husband and son of hannah hitchens say that reckless behavior and cost-cutting led to the cinematographer being killed. they have the 3d video made when recreating the entire incident from alec baldwin accepting the gun from the assistant director to the very moment it was fired. alec baldwin said he did not pull the trigger and he has yet to comment on the lawsuit, sincerely anyway. he did post a video on instagram of a sign that says everything is going to be all right. what does that mean? >> shannon: i think it is very

unfortunate. why would you post that message when her family, everything is not good to be all right for her family. it is a really bad p.r. move. if nothing else, it is insensitive. i have to say that the video, it's very effective at all the things coming together and communicating them in a way that they can see what happens. this is based on the information that we have now. based on that, it makes all kinds of incredibly important points of that he was not only the lead producer, but there were regulatory duties on the set. they say it was insecurities that people had raised and the fact that the protocols for the firearms, props and otherwise, were not handled properly. it is a very popular and powerful network to make message that they have out there and it seems in conflict with his own social media. >> harris: i would like to
